Using Oracle Light On Palm
I do some Palm Development using J2ME (MIDP 2.0).
If I want to use Oracle Light as my database is it as simple as installing Oracle Light Client on PDA and using a new series of API's to access data? Am I over-simplifying -- do I have to use JDeveloper?
Thanks in advance,
Kevin
Thanks glenn,
Also would want to know if i am executing same script same time from more than one VDI through OTM passing variable to call different script will it run successfully. Is there any precautions.measures we should take while doing parallel execution?
Thank you

Slow first connection using Oracle 10g xe and Visual Studio 2008
{noformat}
Good day,
I'm slightly unaccustomed to using forums, so bear with me.
My initial connection to the Oracle database takes approximately 30 seconds. It seems to be waiting for a connection before timing out and trying another connection which works, as all subsequent connections work immediately. I'm unsure how other people's responses in forums can help me due to the plethora of configurations, so here's mine. My comprehension of the oracle world is still growing, you'll have to explain the terms you're using for me, Hoping you can help.
I'm using Visual Studio 2008, set to use 32 bit debug mode, on a Windows 7 Pro platform. Also using Oracle 10g Xe, and have installed the 32 bit version of ODAC 11.2 (11.2.0.1) to aid making a connection from Visual Studio to Oracle.
I have a database set up and a user with system admin rights. This is all local for a programming project and will never see the light of day outside of my personal machine.
I am using code to connect, not the GUI. I wish to code this project completely without the aid of the GUI. so my connection string within Visual Studio C# is (pw/id hidden)...
string xe = "Data Source=xe;User Id=xxxxx;Password=xxxxx;";
OracleConnection conn = new OracleConnection(xe);
My c:\devsuitehome\network\admin\sqlnet.ora file is this:
# sqlnet.ora Network Configuration File: C:\DevSuiteHome\network\admin\sqlnet.ora
# Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (LDAP, TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT, ONAMES, HOSTNAME)
And my c:\devsuitehome\network\admin\TNSNames.ora file is this:
tnsnames.ora Network Configuration File: C:\DevSuiteHome\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
XE =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = xe)
EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = <machine name)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = PLSExtProc)
Just for good measure, my tnsping xe shows:
"Used paramter files:<br/>
c:\devsuitehome\network\admin\sqlnet.ora<br/><br/>
Used TNSNAMES adapter to resolve the alias<br/>
Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521)))(CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = xe)))
OK (0 msec)"
So, how can I make that initial connection faster so I don't spend 15 years testing my application due to slow start-ups? :)
Thank you.
Kevin.

Edited by: 832285 on Jan 29, 2011 10:10 AMI have formatted my hard drive since my first post. I was running window 64 bit with a higher version of the ODAC and that proved to crash my machine with faulty error messages about memory. I have reverted to a previous version of the ODAC tools and everything works very smooth now. Still the connection time is consistently 20 seconds or longer on the first attempt.
Just a little more information.. I am currently taking a college course with 15 other students, as you can tell by the impersonal machine name, where programming using visual studio 2008, and Oracle 10g xe is expected. All of us are using a 64 bit environment and we all have difficulties cutting down the load time of making the first connection to Oracle. Some people are longer making the connection, but none are shorter.
One other note. After the first connection is made, taking 20 or more seconds, and is closed, all subsequent openings of the connection are instantaneous, for all of us.
If there is ANYTHING more I can get for you, please let me know. With my environment stable as it is, I will not need to format or change any information for the foreseeable future.
Here is the information you requested
1 The connection method I am using, I have chosen the manual connection for you, however the delay exists if the connection is made through the GUI as well.
Historically, I am getting slow connection speeds through adding the connection through the GUI or by a manual connection. Here is how I am doing it manually. I have the connection being created in 20 seconds, which is the best I can get.

I fought for weeks about the ODAC version 11.2.0.1 that you see in the previous post, and that would be a whole new thread. Suffice it to say I have a reliable environment to program in with this 10.2.0.1.0 version that I am running now, and the connection time has not changed, it is still minimum 20 seconds load time, sometimes up to 25.

Advanced Replication using Oracle 8i and Linux
Hi,
My name is Sadhana. I am a software engineer. I have a doubt regarding Oracle and Linux. Well, I am involved in developing a customer care and billing solution with back end as Oracle8i (8.1.5)on Linux RH 6.1. I need your guidance is regarding the reliability of using Oracle on Linux as data file servers for critical applications like customer care and billing systems in telecom. The rating and billing engine will also run on linux servers. Only the client machined will have windows 98/NT. It will be helpful if you can throw some light on the replication features of Oracle particularly in Linux. For e.g. is it possible to keep a database server - Oracle on linux and a replication server on linux. Will it behave similarly like other replication servers (windows NT or Solaris etc.)? Is it reliable?
Looking forward for your reply
TIA,
With Best Regards,

1.) Yes it will.
2.) Nobody knows. (Oracle points to May/99...)
3.) Yes, absolutely, since Enterprise Editions are poorly
supported under Oracle/Linux

Hello,
Does anybody has successfully run a HotSync synchronization between an Oracle lite 8i on a Palm and an Oracle 8i EE?
The Hotsync process always gives errors in my environment.

zlatkoPerhaps you can explain to me how you get the SAMPLE application to work. I deleted the C$ALL_APPS file from my Palm and the OrdersODB file which it generates when you click the okDemo application on the Palm.
Now, when I connect with Consolidator using Hotsync I get this error message:

I created the database connection in Oracle8 Navigator and connected to it successfully with user name S11U1 and password MANAGER.
So, what's going on? I have my username/password correct don't I?
I get an error log on the Oracle Consolidator Log of:

As to permissions, you need to do that on

Using SQL*Plus, you would connect to the server
database using the username for the tables
and then use GRANT ALTER...
Using Oracle Navigator, click on the Database

Can I use Oracle XE for ODM prototyping?
Hi experts,
Can I use Oracle XE (Oracle Database Express, the free light weight database) for prototyping about ODM?
I am worrying about the ODM components are not installed with Oracle XE so I won't be able to use the data mining features.
Thanks
PeterODM is an option to the Oracle Database Enterprise Edition (EE). It requires the EE version.

Clustering using Oracle ADF - CHECK_STATE_SERIALIZATION=all
We are using Oracle ADF 11.1.1.6. We have started testing our Oracle ADF application for the cluster compatibility and used following document. We have coded all recommendations given in the document including enabling all applicable java classes to serialization and also setup adf_config.xml <adfc:adf-scope-ha-support>true</adfc:adf-scope-ha-support> and <adf:adf-scope-ha-support>true</adf:adf-scope-ha-support> exactly as per given in the document.
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E12839_01/core.1111/e10106/adf.htm
Now, to check High Availability on a standalone web logic server for debugging purpose we configured Java Option "-Dorg.apache.myfaces.trinidad.CHECK_STATE_SERIALIZATION=all" as per the recommendation.
After setting this flag system started throwing bunch of errors similar to the error given below.
[2012-07-26T14:17:43.602-04:00] [OPERA_ADF1] [ERROR] [] [org.apache.myfaces.trinidadinternal.config.CheckSerializationConfigurator$MutatedBeanChecker] [tid: [ACTIVE].ExecuteThread: '17' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'] [userId: edozer] [ecid: 64915ee7c1860d85:40a983d1:138bf4550b2:-7ffd-0000000000005fcb,0] [APP: OperaApplications_o90_smoke#V9.0.0] Failover error: Serialization of Session attribute:data has changed from oracle.adf.model.servlet.HttpBindingContext@365f8709 to oracle.adf.model.servlet.HttpBindingContext@36b6565b without the attribute being dirtied
The question is what are we missing here?
Please note that our application is still missing ControllerContext.getInstance().markScopeDirty(pageFlowScope); but when I tried to create a sample application and deliberately left the "markScopeDirty" using below code the above mentioned error was not reproduceable.
public class myBackingBean
public void changeValueButton( ActionEvent ae )
Map<String, Object> pageFlowScope = AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getPageFlowScope();
pageFlowTestBean obj = ( pageFlowTestBean )pageFlowScope.get( "pageFlowTestBean" );
System.out.println( "Old Value " + obj.getYVar() );
obj.setYVar( "New Value" );
/* ControllerContext.getInstance().markScopeDirty(pageFlowScope); */
Can anyone shade more light on it?
Also, I would like to know that can someone guide me what is the best practice to perform ControllerContext.getInstance().markScopeDirty(pageFlowScope);. Because developers can easily miss this statement and I didn't find any easyway to search the code that is missing this statement (I have already tried Jdeveloper's Audit feature and it works for very few cases).We checked the ADF source (pasted below). It reads that markScopeDirty is getting skipped if ADF_SCOPE_HA_SUPPORT is not configured but when we debug our application the serialization fires after every pageScope/viewScope variable gets changed regardless of markScopeDirty() is being called or not. That signifies that markScopeDirty() call is not needed. Do we really need markScopeDirty() everywhere in our application or this is just a public helper method to manually trigger replication for some exceptional case? Can anyone from team Oracle explain this behavior?
@Override
public void markScopeDirty(Map<String, Object> scopeMap)
Boolean handleDirtyScopes =
(Boolean)ControllerConfig.getProperty(ControllerProperty.ADF_SCOPE_HA_SUPPORT); //checks for adf-scope-ha-support
if (handleDirtyScopes.booleanValue())
if (!(scopeMap instanceof SessionBasedScopeMap))
String msg = AdfcExceptionsArb.get(AdfcExceptionsArb.NOT_AN_ADF_SCOPE);
throw new IllegalArgumentException(msg);
((SessionBasedScopeMap)scopeMap).markDirty();

Legalities when using Oracle XE
I am planning to host a web Application , for which i have used Oracle XE as the back-end.I would like to know what are the limitations with respect to the legalities involved using XE for commercial use.
It would be great if you could also shed light on the limitations of Oracle XE in terms of Functionality .
For now I know that it can be installed on single CPU , and can have 11gb of data(apart from the system data)Oracle XE can certainly be used for commercial purpose. But if you want to know the Legal Terms then this is not the place where people can share their own views. Contact Oracle Sales Team to get all the required information.

Error while creating a report that uses Oracle OCI JDBC connectivity
Please let me know why my CR and LF characters are removed from my forum posting *****
Hi,
I was trying to create a report that uses Oracle OCI JDBC connectivity. I am using Eclipse3.4 download from "cr4e-all-in-one-win_2.0.2.zip". I have successfully created a JDBC OCI connection.
The connection parameters are given below:
URL: jdbc:oracle:oci8:@xe
Database: xe
username: <userName>
password: <password>
I have tested the above connection in Data source Explorer and it works fine!!!
But I am getting the following error when I drag-and-drop a table from the list of tables. Not sure what I am missing here? Any help is highly appreciated.

Edited by: KARTHIK1 on Oct 14, 2009 9:38 PMHi Ted,
Thanks for the feedback. I was able to create a report in Creystal Reports Designer 2008 using OCI. It is not allowing only in the Eclipse plugin. In our environment we are not allowed to user Oracle thin connections and ONLY OCI is allowed.
1) Can you please let me know if there is a way to do this?
2) Will it allow data sources using native database driver?
3) If so, can I use JRC to create these reports from a desktop java program?
Thanks & Regards

Help needed in using oracle rules SDK
Hi,
For testing my rulesets using oracle rules SDK I doing the following:
1. Creation of dictionary, ruleSet.
2. Declared two kinds of globalVariable variables in my datamodel :
Final and non-Final.(Type of these varaibles are String and Double only)
3. Final globalVaraibles are used in creating rule's patterns.
4. Non-Final globalVariables are used in creating rule's action.
5. Functions are created for asserting globalVariables values and
returning non-final varaibles, since those are required as action
results.
6. In java code I am testing my ruleset (dict.testRuleSet()). Before
testing i am populating my final global variables (since these are used
in rule's patterns),
and updating datamodel.
The above procedure is working fine and I rules are successfully working.
Now, first of all i want to know if the above mentioned approach is correct or it needs to be reframed??
secondly, when i update datamodel with values (in java code itself) it
takes 4-5 seconds in updating it. This is the main issue that why it is
taking this much time??
any comment would be of great help.
Thanks in advance.I will send up an alert for you, Colin. Even though I use iTunes for Mac, troubleshooting it isn't my forté.

Hi!
I am trying to compile the above packets but am running into massive problems.
PHP3 compiles well, if i try to use the "normal" static module for Apache, but the Apache configure script says that it needs an ANSI C compiler and stops.
I am using GCC 2.7.2.3 with the bugfixes from SuSe.
Since that did not work I tried the configuration as a Dynamic Module. The Apache "Readme.config" explains two ways to do so, but the first has the same problem with GCC and the second (via APXS) compiles Apache without problems, but PHP3 wont compile since it does not find a library. The exact error is: "/usr/i486-linux/bin/ld: cannot open -lclntsh: No such file or directory"
I found a libclntsh.so.8.0 in the oracle/lib directory, but since i fumbled around with this library (i tried ln -s libclntsh.so.8.0 libclntsh.so) sqlplus says libclntsh.so.8.0: cannot find file data: no such file or directory (even now that the link is deleted again).
And PHP still wont compile. Any ideas would be welcome.
P.S.: Is it normal that Oracle has to be told NOT to create a database during install, TO create a database???
We worked for 3 days on the Oracle installation and that was the only way to install Oracle without errors.
thx

SSO and how to Managing User Roles/Privileges with Forms using Oracle db
We are in the process of implementing Oracle Application Server SSO with our custom Forms application using Oracle database -- all 10.2.0.1.0 version.
In our Forms Applications, we have about a dozen roles we have assigned to various users. We need to identify each user using our Forms because we are using the GLOBAL USER throughout the application.
Questions:
-- Do we have to create users/passwords in both OID and application database?
-- Is there a way to easily manage the user and passwords between SSO and Forms App/database in one place? For example, how does a user change their password once, but actually change it in both the database and SSO?
Any advice and/or direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Mika

Edited by: user11846198 on Sep 1, 2009 1:53 PMYes, you can have global roles in the DB and assign this roles to specific OID users, and the will heritage the privilages, you can do this using Oracle Identity Management Web Tool http://hostname:7777/oiddas is not complicated.

Does sun Cluster 3.0/3.1 HA Oracle agent support to use Oracle spfile?
When defining the resource, the 'parameter_file' properties is usually sets to the Oracle pfile. Is it possible to use Oracle spfile?
It is said if leaving 'parameter_file' NULL, it will be default to Oracle default. Suppose leaving it NULL and with Oracle spfile created in default location, will it use the spfile?You did not specify which Sun Cluster version and Oracle version you are running.
Within SC 3.1 my understanding is that beginning with Oracle 9i it is possible to use the spfile.
If you leave the "parameter_file" property empty (NULL) then the default behaviour for 9i should work:
search under $ORACLE_HOME/dbs in the order:
1. spfile$(ORACLE_SID}.ora
2. spfile.ora
3. init${ORACLE_SID}.ora

I am unable to insert a record calling the stored procedure with values: DCWEB4578, , 2P, CA, CALIFORNIA but when I change to the string "NULL", the insert succeeds. When I try to call the stored procedure to update the inserted record with values: DCWEB4578, "NULL", 2P, CO, COLORODO the update does not happen since I still see the original record in the table. Please advise. Thanks in advance for your help.938319 wrote:
I am new to using OracleWelcome to the forum: please read the FAQ and forum sticky threads (if you haven't done so already), and ensure you've updated your profile with a real handle instead of "938319".
You'll get a faster, more effective response to your questions by including as much relevant information as possible upfront. This should include:
<li>Full APEX version
<li>Full DB/version/edition/host OS
<li>Web server architecture (EPG, OHS or APEX listener/host OS)
<li>Browser(s) and version(s) used
<li>Theme
<li>Template(s)
<li>Region/item type(s)
With APEX we're fortunate to have a great resource in apex.oracle.com where we can reproduce and share problems. Reproducing things there is the best way to troubleshoot most issues, especially those relating to layout and visual formatting. If you expect a detailed answer then it's appropriate for you to take on a significant part of the effort by getting as far as possible with an example of the problem on apex.oracle.com before asking for assistance with specific issues, which we can then see at first hand.
Thanks for posting the complete code, it makes it so much easier to understand the problem, but always post code wrapped in tags<tt>\...\</tt> tags to preserve formatting and special characters.
and I am trying to create an add/insert stored procedure for a table.Does this have anything to do with APEX, for which this is the forum? General SQL & PL/SQL matters should be directed to the {forum:id=75} forum.
The PROD_CD and PLAN_CD fields in my table can have no value (empty or null) Can you please check my code and let me know what I am doing wrong?This:
commit;
exception
when others then
rollback;
end;
when others then
rollback;Remove it all.
Commits should be issued by end user/client software on completion of a transaction. This means <tt>commit;</tt> should almost never appear in PL/SQL code. The main exception to this is in <tt>dbms_job/secheduler</tt> scheduled processes that have no client or UI. If this code is executed from APEX, then APEX issues more than enough commits anyway.
exceptions are just a way of ensuring your code is buggy.<tt>when others</tt> exceptions are just a way of ensuring your code is buggy.

We are using Oracle ERP in our company which is a web based ERP system. I am using firefox to work in ERP for convinieince pf working and using internet at the same time. This requires a plugin provided by oracle oajinit.exe to be installed in Plugins it is a JAVA plugin which opens the ERP Screens. This works fine in versions prior to 3.6 version of firefox. However, after upgrading to 3.6 version the forms do not open and firefox crashes. Due to this i am not able to upgrade to the latest version else i'll have to operate the ERP in internet explorer and using firefox for browsing which i do not want. The plugin used for the ERP is "* JInitiator 1.3.1.18 for Netscape Navigator (DLL Helper)"
Firefox 3.6 needs the Java Second Generation Plugin which comes with newer versions than 1.6.0_03 - update Java, the latest version is 1.6.0_22
