Using Scripts to detect document size in inches?

Is it possible that a script detects the document size in inches not in pixels?
Thanks for the help!

The size an Image will print is a simple calulation the numbet of Pixel Wide Devided by the imageg current DPI resolution. And numbet of Pixel High Devided by the imageg current DPI resolution. You can always change the DPI while maintaining the same number of pizels using Image Size with resample NOT checked to change the image's print size. All the information can be retrived in a script and the script can change the image's print size with or without resampling the image.

    Hi, I am using Indesign CS6, How to set the page size in Inches.

    All fields in InDesign can be entered in any measurement system. So, if you want to make an 8"x10" document and go to File>New Document and the window looks like this:
    …you can type either 8 in or 8" into the Width field like this:
    …and when you move to the next field, it will convert the eight inches into the equivalent number in the unit of measure that it is using at the moment, like this:
    … (203.2 milimeters is the same as 8 inches). You can also enter a different measurement unit into other fields once the file is created, such as the width or height of a frame, or the position of an object in the X and Y coordinates.
    If you would rather just work in inches instead of having to type the inches mark or abbreviation, go to InDesign>Preferences>General and select the Units & Increments tab. There you will see Ruler Units for Horizontal and Vertical at the top of the window. Set them to Inches and all of the fields will display in inches. If you do that to an open document, you will change the unit of measure for that document. If you do it while no documents are open, it will change the unit of measure for any new documents you create. To change the unit of measure for existing documents, you will have to open each and make the change.

    I used scripting brigde to add a movie that has size bigger than 5GB, exactly after two minutes iTunes return a failed, but the processing of the file is actually added to iTunes Library successfully. The copying take more than 5 minutes to complete. Why the iTunes Scripting Brigde returned failed when it is actually success? It occurred exactly 2 minutes after submit the request to Scripting Brigde. Is this 2 minutes related to the Apple Event time out? if it does, how do I get around this problem? thx

    I can tell you that this is some of the absolutely worst customer service I have ever dealt with. I found out from a store employee that when they are really busy with calls, they have third party companies taking overflow calls. One of those companies is Xerox. What can a Xerox call center rep possibly be able to authorize on a Verizon account?  I'm Sure there is a ton of misinformation out there due to this. They don't note the accounts properly or so everyone can see them. I have been transferred before and have asked if they work for Verizon or a third party also and was refused an answer so, apparently they aren't required to disclose that information. I spent a long time in the store on my last visit and it's not just customers that get the runaround. It happens to the store employees as well and it's beyond frustrating.

  • Is there a script to create a button to set an activated frame to document size + bleed?

    Please see my question above. Thanks in advance!

    Here is a script that creates a script that creates a button that sets an activated frame to document size + bleed.
    Why do you need a script to create a button that sets an activated frame to document size + bleed? You might as well have a script that sets an activated frame to document size + bleed, because you already need to double-click the script that sets an activated frame to document size + bleed and so there is no need to show another button that you can click to set an activated frame to document size + bleed in that.
    theScript = 'var w = new Window("dialog", "Reframe");\n'+
    'w.b = w.add("button", undefined, "Click me!");\n'+
    'w.b.onClick = function(){ w.close(3); };\n'+
    'if (w.show() == 3)\n'+
    '{\n'+
    'dp = app.activeDocument.documentPreferences;\n'+
    'app.selection[0].geometricBounds = [\n'+
    'app.layoutWindows[0].activePage.bounds[0]-dp.documentBleedTopOffset,\n'+
    'app.layoutWindows[0].activePage.bounds[1]-dp.documentBleedBottomOffset,\n'+
    'app.layoutWindows[0].activePage.bounds[2]+dp.documentBleedInsideOrLeftOffset,\n'+
    'app.layoutWindows[0].activePage.bounds[3]+dp.documentBleedOutsideOrRightOffset];\n'+
    writeFile = new File (app.activeScript.parent+'/new script.jsx');
    writeFile = writeFile.saveDlg( 'Save script', File.fs == "Windows" ? "Script:*.jsx,All files:*.*" : function(file) { return file instanceof Folder || (!(file.hidden) && file.name.match(/\.jsx$/i)); } );
    if (writeFile != null && writeFile.open("w"))
      writeFile.encoding = "utf8";
      writeFile.write (theScript);
      writeFile.close();

    hello ! how to change document sizes and use our own size (not A3, A2 ...) thank you !

    Experiment. No harm in trying.
    If you are just starting to use Pages you need to make your own assessment given current events whether committing your work to a format and software given this support is a wise move.
    You also need to look at what will produce workable results. Particularly if your large posters are to be commercially printed and contain large bitmap (photographic) images.
    Always work backwards from your output. Ask your printer what they require to do their job.

    Hi there! So I am using Lightroom 3 on a pc and I have ran into an issue when exporting images. The DPI and image size (in inches) that I am selecting during the export process. For example I just exported a collection and set the dpi to 180 and the size to 7 inches on the long edge. My exported result is 457 dpi and sized at 3200x2134 pixels.. Any ideas on why this is happening and what I can do to correct it?

    The DPI setting in a digital image has no meaning at all. You need to learn how to calculate what you need in your exported image. The only measurement in a digital image that has any meaning is the number of pixels in each direction. It doesn't matter what you set that DPI to (actually it's PPI or pixels per inch). The image will have the same number of pixels regardless of the setting. If you need an image that is 5 x 7" (for example) at 200 PPI then you would want an image that measured:
    5 x 200 = 1000 pixels
    7 x 200 = 1400 pixels
    So you would need an image that is 1000 x 1400 pixels to have a 5 x 7" image at 200 PPI. The reason your exported image had such a high PPI setting is because you specified the number of inches you wanted the image to be. And there were enough pixels in the image that it calculated out to be that high PPI setting.
    I apologize, I don't explain this very well. But you need to learn to do the math to determine how large you really want your exported images to be.

  • Applescript use Document size information

    HI ALL,
    I am trying to put together a script that would fill up a slug with document size information:
    - Let say my document is 8.5"W x 11" H
    - Let say that my slug has a "document size" area with placeholder text, like DocWidth x DocHeight
    The script would do a find and replace of "DocHeight" by the value of the Height of my document.
    Here is an abstract of my applescript as it stands:
    ......... (there is more before this section: I set document size to a random size, 6"x6", then tells it to put some bleed, then a slug area, then to import my slug that is a snippet)
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS4"
        set myWidth to page width of document preferences of myDocument
        set myHeight to page height of document preferences of myDocument
        set find text preferences to nothing
        set change text preferences to nothing
        set find what of find text preferences to "DocHeight"
        set change to of change text preferences to myHeight
        tell active document
            set myFoundItems to change text
        end tell
    end tell
    Now my script works, but it gives me the following error:
    Adobe InDesign CS4 got an error: Invalid value for set property 'change to'. Expected string or nothing, but received 6.0.
    Does anyone know waht I am missing here ?
    Thank you for any help!!!!

    Change to wants text, not a number. Try:
        set change to of change text preferences to (myHeight as text)
    I'd also want to focus that find/change just on the slug area. So if it's in a text frame called "Slug", you'd do something like:
      set myFoundItems to change text parent story of text frame "Slug"

    I have a report that is generated in legal format. When I hit print , the page size goes to the default page size (eg. A4). Is there a way to make Adobe reader (V 10.1.2) automatically detect the document size (legal in this case)? Thanks

  • Max Document Size is 106.666 inches? Any work around?

    Hey guys,
       I am workking on a very large publication (width of 150.8") and I can't seem to work with it in Photoshop. I did most of the work in ilustrator, however, I now need to add and work with photos for this publication, and to my horror, photoshop will not allow me to open the AI file without cropping or scaling it first. What's a guy to do?

    The max document size is 300000 pixels in either dimension.
    The max physical dimension will depend on the resolution chosen (pixels/inch).
    In your case it sounds like you set a resolution around 2812 pixesl/inch.

  • Problem with setting up document size to thousandth of an inch

    When I'm **** book covers I need to make my document size correct to the thousandth of an inch. For example, a recent cover is supposed to be 13.235. Instead, the measurement that holds rounds up to 13.24. I'm assuming there's a default somewhere that needs changing, but don't know how to find/change it . . .? THANKS.

    use this small script to determine the actual size down the gazillionth of an inch. Here I created a doc 13.235" x 6.5/8"
    var idoc = app.activeDocument;
    alert("doc width : " + idoc.width/72 + " inches\rdoc hieght : " + idoc.height/72 + " inches");

  • Changing Resolution and Document size

    Hello - I have a jpeg from a digital camera that I Saved As photo.psd with an original Document Size of 44" x 66" @ 72 ppi resolution.
    I am using CS3 and I want to prepare the photo for printing while maintaining the highest quality possible. The first thing I did was uncheck Resample Image. Then I changed the resolution to 300. This gave me a Document Size of 10.56 x 15.84.
    I want to enlarge the Document Size to 16" x 24" (the same proportions). So, it seems to me that the next step is to now check Resample Image and put in my new Document Size of 16" x 24". I would then apply some Unsharp Mask as desired.
    So, should Ifollow the steps above or do you recommend a different workflow?
    I've read that Photoshop will upres very well up to 200% and all I need is 166%, so it should work ok. Also, do you recommend standard Bicubic or Bicubic Smoother?
    TIA

    What you're suggesting will work, though you don't really need to do it in multiple steps.  One step, with resampling checked, once you set all the fields as you want, will do the trick.
    And for all the hype and mystery surrounding the two alternate choices for resampling, in all my work for minor resampling I always find I prefer Photoshop's original Bicubic method.  For extreme upsampling I prefer, personally, a plug-in called Genuine Fractals.
    Also, modern print drivers are getting very good at size matching...  If the image quality in your file is to your liking, you COULD just set the print size in inches (without resampling) and be done with it.  This would yield an image at a resolution lower than 300 pixels/inch, but would save you some work, and it may very well be that you will not be able to see any difference by letting the driver do the resampling as needed.
