Hello,
I'd like to record some audio from a line-level source using my computer, but my ThinkPad T410 apparently doesn't have a microphone in jack (which is how I always did it before).
So I bought this adapter:

iPhone 4 conductor TRRS male to headphone and microphone-in.
However, the adapter does not work. Even when I hook my source up to the microphone-in of that adapter, my laptop still records using the built-in microphone.
Did I buy the wrong adapter? Has anyone else had this problem? Is the problem maybe in software?

Is the line you're connecting to the splitter a stereo or mono cable? I had this same issue with the T410/T510 systems I sell to my customers (I'm a Lenovo Reseller) and had a custom cable like yours designed. What I discovered is that if your microphone is stereo there was no problem, but if is a MONO cable you are connecting to the microphone splitter jack the only thing that happed was that the internal mic was enabled.
If thats the case just pickup a cheap 3.5mm stereo male to 3.5mm mono female adapter and put that between your "Y" adapter and the cable you are connecting.

I've been experiencing problems with a third party audio interface, namely Mbox, working smoothly with Logic. It was suggested to me that I should try using the internal audio for working with Logic. I was laboring under the false assumption that the internal sound was only 16bit. I would like some feedback from someone who uses the internal audio in a home studio situation. Namely 1. If possible, how to connect the internal output to an external monitor system. 2. How to connect a preamp for recording through the internal sound. Can this even be done and can I expect results equal to the Mbox?

Actually, it doesn't make a difference if it's a TRS or an XLR. The difference is in the Apogee's inputs. With the One, you have either a instrument quarter-inch input or a Mic XLR input. Neither works with a balanced +4 line signal, which is the signal coming from the Grace. With the Duet, you can switch internally the XLR inputs from Mic to +4db line signal.
Also, I know the Grace preamp is really good but another possibility is to stop using it and plugging your mic directly into the Apogee preamp. I know it can sound weird as a suggestion but you'd be surprised at how good the Apogee pres are. And if you only need one preamp, the One will work for you. One last thing: the Duet is Firewire, the One is USB. That means you should be able to have lower buffer settings with the Duet, hence less lantency.

Using The Same Audio Files On Multiple Platforms

When I import new audio into logic - often it will say that is creating wave forms for the display.
Q: I notice that the audio files on disk do not show an altered modified date - so where are these wave form displays being saved - on the audio file or inside the logic song?
Q: I am interested in possibly going back and forth between logic and Pro tools LE - and at different times using the same audio files for both platforms. Assuming I am not doing any destructive editing - is it OK to use the same set of files for both platforms - or do I need to make duplicates (I'd rather not)? Also, how does this wave form display get dealt with by going back and forth between the two platforms?

Hmmm... I've wondererd about this, too, and as best I can tell, Logic DOES modify the original files.
I just imported some stereo interleaved AIF files into a project (with "copy external audio files to project folder" disabled), and I couldn't see any evidence of waveform creation--a disk search by date revealed nothing looking like waveform overviews, and there were no modifications to the AIF file dates.
So... the next time I imported some AIF files, I checked the file sizes before the import...
Sure enough, the files got bigger by about 100K after being imported into a Logic session, even though the file's timestamps were not changed.
Looks like maybe Logic does write the waveforms into the files themselves ?
On a related note, the manual suggests that it's possible to change the "copy external audio files to project folder" setting after creating a project, but I haven't found this anywhere other than File->New... anyone know ?

I just bought the 2.4 so i shall answer your question from the perspective of a macbook 2.0(1stgen) owner.
I spend almost six months a year gigging in europe.
My "Books" are my life line to creativity.
My 2.0 had 2gig ram&7200 rpm 100gig HD.
In logic pro the last song recorded had 32 audio tracks, 8 virtual synths, effects on each channel and also effects on the stereo outputs. ALL were recorded on the internal drive. I also carry a 7200 rpm 100 gig SATA 2.5 drive and ext fw800 case. This i bought from owc. I do suggest you replace the 5400 ext&case. The firewire 800 was the #1 reason i bought this new machine. Using the built in mic to record on logic

i wanna use the built in mic to record on logic because my real mic broke and i have been unable to get a new one. but when i try to record i get an enormous amount of feedback that i cant get rid of.
can anybody help?

You need to plug in head phones otherwise the sound is coming both in and out of the same speaker causing the feedback

Do I have to use the same Audio Output and Input source???

In logic express 7.2.3 I can get everything to work fine except when I want to set my sound output to be different than the input device.
I want the Audio Input to be : "Roland USB device"
I want the Audio Output to be "Built in Output"
This works perfectly in Garage Band but not in LogicExpress 7.
As far as I can tell core audio in Logic only gives you the option to use the same device for input and ouput. This makes it impossible for me to record guitar or bass parts in Logic because in order to hear anything in Logic I have to set my systems sounds prefs to use my USB device for both Audio In and Out. This means the guitar is playing through my speakers regardless if LE7 is running or not... and when it is running I hear the guitar at speaker level which means I can't hear it at mix level or any of the effects that may be applied to it.

Thanks... I did that but and it works (sort of ) but now there is a HUGE amount of latency. The audio also starts to crackle after a while. I know this input device is a few years old and the latency could be better but it works completely fine with Garage Band so I'm not sure what to do.

How to use the Digital Audio in & out RCA jacks a6010n

On the lower right of the back of my Pavillion a6010n desktop, above the mouse and keboard connections and below the monitor connection are two RCA jacks labeled Digital Audio in and out. The top one has an orange insulator and is labeled "out", and the lower one has a black insulator and is labeled "in". I have been unable to find any information about these or how to use them. Can anyone please tell me or direct me to information about this? I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit and have added a Sound Blaster Audigy sound card which is cheap but has a better S/N ratio. In Control Panel --> Sound the digital output for the sound card is listed but there is nothing about the Digital Audio jacks I would like to be able to use. Thank you all.

Yes there is. I suggest trolling these boards for the 3rd party remote solutions that will free you to use the remote in ANY application like Winamp, Notepad, Windows Media Player, etc.

The value of the Channel Strip volume etc is not stored within the C Strip setting, as you have discovered.
If you really wanted, you could add a Gain plug to the strip, with it set to give the correct output level with the Fader set to 0
(Or just set the fader manually in MS)

Hello, I have a mac pro 15' from 2008, and the connector just stop working, in fact I have 2 connectors, because I broke a mac pro brand new, and then I had to buy this one, so both connectors stop working all of a sudden, and now when I went to Apple Store, the anwwer I got was "is not possible to repair" and we don't have to deliver before 4 months. I am atonished! 4 months?? How is that possible, and they show to me in Apple online the answer and it say 4 months indeed. Now I am looking to the new magsafe connector, that was made to the new mac pro and the deliver is the next day. My question is
can I use this one on my mac pro from 2008? Because i reada few things that there were complains that the new did not work. Can i get some help one this please?

I got the following result:

Using the iPod docking connectors

I bought myself an iPod with color display a little while ago, and yet it only came with one connection to a USB port on either the power supply or the computer. I bought an earlier iPod a long time go and we ended up having to get a new connecting cable for it to hook up to my computer.
Here is the question...
Is it possible to use an older iPod's dock connection with an iPod with Color Display? I only want to use the old one to connect it to my computer to update the songs and playlists I have, and yet I'm afraid it will kill my iPod or my computer.
I just don't like having to disconnect my iPod and reconnect every time I want to switch from power to computer update, and I don't want to spend my money on a new connecting cable.

ICS update: can I use the combination of face-lock/pattern lock and direct Access Lock?

I just updated ICS on Bionic. I cannot use the Direct Access Lock with face-lock or pattern lock.
Is there a way to do (well I prefer not to download apps to do it)?
