Using USB without Visa

"I have a usb camera that has it's own drivers. I want to stream the video to the user via the front panel. I don't know the exact functions declaration that are in the dll to use with Code library function. I thought about using vfw but could not figure out exactly how to do that. I want to stay away from IVision or WebCam Library. Is there a way to figure this out? Thanks for tips and ideas."

Hello eagerstudent,
You basically have two options.
You can call the dlls in LabVIEW using a Call Library Function Node as you have mentioned. You will have to figure out what methods to call, what they return, and how to cast that data into images. This is probably the more difficult method.
Your other option, if it is available, is to use ActiveX to control whatever application you use to view your camera video and pull that streaming into LabVIEW. What functionality is available will be up to whatever application you control, but most robust applications provide at the very least a basic, usable interface. The ActiveX controls for the application will be registered with your OS when the application is installed. You can then use an Active
X container in LabVIEW to reference the ActiveX object. Ive attached an example that does exactly this with Windows Media Player.
If none of these suggestions help, or if Im not correctly understanding your issue, please reply with comments or answers to the discussion above and any additional information that may help, and Ill be happy to look further into it.
Have a nice day!

  • How use USB with VISA resource name?

    Hi,
I'm new at LabVIEW and I'm working on a code that has to acquire data from a measurement device. This device only has a USB output so I have to work with it. As far as know the block that is used to refer a external port is VISA resource name. I have installed a driver that recognizes the serial ports, and they appear in the list of VISA resource file at front panel. So I figured that installing the product's USB driver so the USB's ports would appear. I installed and nothing of USB ports. I don't know it is that simple or working with USB ports is a little bit harder. I've tried a lot of things and nothing worked so here I am.
PS: I have noticed that the driver's version is 64 bits (my pc is 64 bits)  and my LabVIEW version is 32 bits, so could that be the problem?
The device by the way is Digital Analyzer WT500, Yokogawa.
    Thank you.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Victor,
the suggestion of Instrument Driver is to make more easy using the instrument.
Normally, you should install a windows drive from manufacturer (if it isn't installed, the instrument will appear like a pendrive in device manager) and the NI VISA. But for some instruments, the manufacturers have API's that uses NI VISA to communicate with your equipments.
So check if your instrument appear correctly in device manager (as indicated by Yokogawa). If not, check if Yokogawa has an appropriated driver for this instrument and install it.
    Is it clear?

  • Moving music to iPhone manually on USB without using iMatch

I have over 10G of songs in my iTunes library. Once I've subscribed to iMatch, how do I transfer all my iTunes music from my MacBook to my iPhone without using iCloud, using USB or WIFI instead? I live in South Africa where bandwidth is expensive... Thanks

Plug your phone into your computer with the special cable with the USB connector on one end and the iPhone connector on the other.
I'll have to admit at this stage that I am not an expert at synching but that's the basics.  I think you will also, of course, need iTunes running (it will probably start when you plug in the synchable device) and the music you want transferred in a special playlist.

i tried to sync my ipad to my itunes using usb but it will say not charging,, i can sync with my ipod touch without any problem... please help..

    From http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4060 :
The fastest way to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter. When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge, but only when it's in sleep mode.
iPods need less power to charge them (their wall charger is half the power of the iPad's, 5W as opposed to 10W), so are more likely to charge via USB

If you have the Media you can use it to create a bootable USB key via boot camp assistant.
It will create the usb and has the option of pre-downlading the drivers and bootcamp utilities for windows.
It is pretty much all automated and quite simple.

  • How do you use the bluetooth VIs with a Microsoft Bluetooth Driver?

How do you use the LabVIEW Bluetooth VIs with the Microsoft Bluetooth driver?  I have been trying with no such luck.
I want to use 2 computers to talk to each other using the bluetooth VIs.  Eventually, I think we would like a PDA/phone to talk to a custom built electronics board with Bluetooth.  But for now, I would just like 2 computers to talk and then eventually talk to our own device.
One is a desktop w/ the Belkin F8T012 USB adapter.  It installs fine with the Belkin driver (but I know I need to use the Microsoft Driver in order to use the LabVIEW VIs, but I have tried to get Windows to install its own but it says it is a BCM92045DG-Flash.  It says it cannot install it because it cannot find the necessary hardware.  I thought this USB adapter was on the approved Bluetooth devices list?  What else should I try?  Another Bluetooth USB adapter?
The other computer is a Dell Latitude 820.  It has a built in Bluetooth module which I believe is the Dell 350 Bluetooth Module.  On this machine I have been able to setup a COM port with a bluetooth device (blood glucose meter).  It came with a serial port interface which we modifed to go through a bluetooth interface.  It comes up as COM40. We have been able to communicate to it using their program originally designed to talk through a serial port.  But we would like to use the Bluetooth VIs in LabVIEW.  I can't even use the Discover VI.  Perhaps it is not using the Microsoft Driver as well.  Do I just uninstall the driver and then try to have Windows install its own driver?  Do you have any other recommendations?
    Thanks,
       Javi

    Hi Javi,
This sounds like an issue with Windows and your specific Bluetooth devices.  As you mentioned, the LV Bluetooth VI's do require that the devices use the Windows drivers.  Take a look at this link for specific requirements for using Bluetooth with LabVIEW.  Also, you can take a look at our Developer Zone tutorial on designing Bluetooth applications a found here.  Regarding your device drivers, sometimes it is as easy as uninstalling the driver and then letting Windows discover the device and fine its own driver.  You could check out the Microsoft Knowledgebase for more information.  Thanks and have a great day!

  • Hangs iTunes unless using USB 1.1

I'd like to add my voice to the numerous problems on this forum with connecting and syncing the Shuffle with iTunes. While my Shuffle has been flaky as long as I can remember, it's pretty much unusable with iTunes 8.
In those moments of bliss when I can actually get the Shuffle to be recognized by the Mac, I've tried the dance of hard resetting the Shuffle, restoring it with the Reset Utility, erasing it on my MacBook and then erasing in on my G5, restarting the computer, resetting the PRAM, trashing com.apple.ipod.plist files, using different USB ports, and on and on.
Nothing will make this turkey work reliably. I'd say it fails at least 8-9 times out of 10 trying to connect and sync on this computer. I can't even change the settings without it hanging iTunes.
But wait ... it works fine, but slooooowly, when plugged into the USB 1.1 keyboard port. I'd dump this lemon for a nano, but I really like the small form factor.
Any other magic dance I can do?

I see the iTunes 8.0.1 update didn't do anything to correct this problem. I switched to USB 2.0 and copied over one podcast and it seemed to do so successfully. When I went to eject the Shuffle, it hung iTunes. When I got tired of waiting, I unplugged the shuffle and iTunes came back to life.
But then, my G5 spontaneously did a sleep/wake in about two seconds. The HP scanner software came to life thinking that I'd pressed a button on my scanner. Nope. So maybe the root cause is in the OS and the USB drivers?
    Back to using USB 1.1.

  • How do I install windows using BootCamp without cd drive fot the new MBP?

I need some softwares for my work (modelsim, altera, ltspices etc) but some of them only supports windows.
New MBP doesnt seem to have a cd driver.
How do I install windows using bootcamp without cd drivers?

You can use a USB thumbdrive to do this, assuming you have access to a windows machine to format the usb stick.
I installed Win7 on my MB Air (2011), which of course lacks a DVD drive altogether, using this technique.
Basically, you download a tool called rEFIt to your macbook. ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/refit/files/rEFIt/0.14/rEFIt-0.14.dmg/download ) When this is installed, it gives you a boot selector menu when you boot the Macbook ('Do you want to boot to MacOS or to the USB drive?')
Then you download and run an Apple tool called Boot Camp Assistant, which allows you to partition your HD for the two operating systems to share; it also pulls down all the windows drivers you need.
Then prep the USB thumbdrive on a windows machine to be a Win7 installer disk. You'll want a drive in the 4gb+ range I think. You have to set up the thumbdrive to be bootable (lots of tools for that available), and then copy all the windows installation files over to it.
Put the thumbdrive in the macbook and boot holding down the option key.
Choose the rEFIt icon on boot, then choose to boot from the thumbdrive, then format your new windows partition to something Win7 can handle, and install windows.
On my machine I followed a slightly more involved process and wiped out MacOS entirely. I would have kept it on a small partition if I'd had a bigger hard drive.
If you need super detailed instructions, CNET has some here:

  • How can I use USB interface in Labview?

    Hi.
Does labview allow to USB interface?
I have been seen allowing GPIB and RS232.
I'm beginer at Labview and wanna use USB interface for my target system and pc.
I wanna know how to labview interfaces from target system to pc.
And if Labview doesn't provide USB interface module, how can I use USB?
Is using a USB at Labview hard to beginer?
    Plz, answer to my quetion.
sorry, my English is very poor.
    thx for reading my article.

You can access devices connected to the USB port, but not in the same way as you would a GPIB or RS232 device. There are no USB drivers like there is VISA for GPIB or serial. Rather devices that plug into the USB appear to the systen as some sort of standard resource like a printer, disk drive or IO board. LabVIEW then interacts with these devices as it would any other device of the same type.Look at it this way, if you have a USB daq device you will access it through MAX the same as if it were a plugin card. • Why do I get a blue screen using USB communication?

    Hello,
My problem is that sometimes I get a blue screen using USB communication. I guess that most of the time the problem is an overflow in memory, so I read all the data that is on the port with which I communicate. I read two ports so there are two similar VIs that are used. There is how I do it:
I also communicate with a logger to acquire 16 channels. I read the information from the logger in two different parts of the program at the same time. Maybe this can cause an issue, but could it cause a blue screen? This is how I do it:
I once had a blue screen after the VI was closed, so there is how I manage to close the communication when I quit:
Do you think there can be any problem coming from one of these parts of my LV project? If not, what else can cause a blue screen in LabVIEW?

Are you using USB to GPIB (doubtful because you are using bytes at port)? But, just inc ase, I had this problem also with USB to GPIB, and it ended up being a driver issue I believe. If you are using USB to GPIB driver that was released with LV2012, search for the latest 2012 driver on NIs site, download it, and use that. See if it fixes your problem

  • How to create Lion recovery boot usb WITHOUT recovery partition?

I give up.  I can't find the answer to this.  So, I'll just ask and hope.
I have a mid-2011 mini that was upgraded to Lion.  However, it had a Bootcamp partition running Windows 7.
Apparently, whoever upgraded my machine didn't create a recovery boot disk before upgrading.
So, I have no recovery partition and apparently no ability to create a recovery boot usb without one.
Apple's ******** support policy is to completely wipe the hard drive and reinstall everything--which is simply not going to happen.

    Eric. wrote:
    Have you tried this?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1433
I made one on a USB flash drive.
Problem with that solution is that:
Note: In order to create an external Lion Recovery using the Lion Recovery Assistant, the Mac must have an existing Recovery HD.
If you kept a copy of the installer, then open it up, and restore the InstallESD.dmg to an empty partition or flash drive. Do note that doesn't give you the Recovery HD, but you won't need one since you can reinstall w/o downloading anything but additional components from Apple's servers.
