Using webutil_file_transfer in 10G forms

I am looking to upload a pdf blob from a table in the database to a physical directory on the the application server. Then use web.show_document to display the the pdf in a browser to the user.
I currently use the following to display the pdf.
webutil_file_transfer.DB_To_Client
webutil_file_transfer.Client_To_AS
web.show_document
This work works well for users at work on our intranet. But this is considerably slower when users connect to the system from home over the internet. Is there a way with webutil_file_transfer or an oracle system function to move the pdf from the database to the application server?

use either
start c:\temp\A8020023122.pdfor
rundll32.exe url.dll, FileProtocolHandler c:\temp\A8020023122.pdfinstaed of cmd /c, these two are not blocking.

  • Display Images using READ_IMAGE_FILE in 10g forms

    Hello all, i have a simple question that I'm trying to resolve really quick.
    I've created a field on a form in 10g forms that is of IMAGE type. I've given it a name and has given it a FILE_TYPE of GIF.
    I've put some code in a POST-QUERY trigger of a block that calls the READ_IMAGE_FILE command, where I enter the filename, file_type, and block.item name. When I leave the path off the image name, forms runtime acts like it cannot find it. I get an FRM message displayed at runtime that says it "Cannot read image file". However, if I put the full path (like something pointing to a hard-coded directory on my C drive where the image file resides), the image displays fine at runtime.
    I added the images to my JAR file where I have other images stored so they get opened at runtime under the ORACLE_HOME/forms/java directory. I was thinking that when I gave the filename, runtime would know to pull it out of there. But obviously, that's not what is happening.
    Has anyone got ideas on what I could do to get the READ_IMAGE_FILE to display the image without hard-coding a path in?
    Any help is appreciated!
    Regards,
    Chris

    Here are some things to check:
    1) Alll the images in the JAR file should have the same extension
    2) In formsweb.cfg, include the JAR file in the ARCHIVE parameter and set imageBase=codebase
    3) In registry.dat, leave iconpath blank and set iconextension=gif
    4) In your READ_IMAGE_FILE call, use URL as the file type and don't use the extension on the file name. So if the image in your JAR is my_picture.gif, it would be something like READ_IMAGE_FILE('my_picture','URL','myblock.my_image_item');
    If it still doesn't work, enable the Java console and when it comes up, enter the number 5 in the console to enable the highest level of logging. Then have a look at the console to see if the JAR is getting downloaded and where it's attempting to read the image from.

  • Error while using webutil in 10g forms

    Hi All,
    I followed all the steps as given in the webutil user guide, in order to use webutil functionality in my forms 10g. Even then, I am getting an error message while trying to open a file from the client machine.
    oracle.forms.webutil.file.FileFunctions bean not found WEBUTIL_FILE.FILE_SELECTION_DIALOG_INT will not work.
    I need a solution to this problem urgently.
    Thanks,
    M.Banerjee

    Hi,
    look at the Jinitiator console if the webutil jar file gets downloaded. If this is downloaded, which indicates that it can be found on the server, check the implementation in Forms. What this says is that the bean cannot be found, which however should be the case if webutil is configured correctly.

  • How to use LDAP with Oracle forms 10g on Oracle application server

    Hi,
    I need some help on this. I have developed oracle forms 10g on application server 9iAS. The client want to use the existing LDAP authentication to the software we wrote. I do not know how I could configure to use the existing LDAP authentication . If anyone know how would I use the existing LDAP on different server to use when they logon to our menu in 10g to validate the user. Do I need to add any varibales in formweb.cfg or any other method. Please help.
    Thanks
    Luksh

    I am not quite sure if this works out of the box. According to an Oracle FAQ:
    4.2 Can I use LDAP to authenticate Forms Services?
    Not directly. However, Oracle Login Server is able to authenticate against a LDAP directory and thus a Forms application can take advantage of this in a SSO environment. But you cannot use access control information stored in a LDAP directory with Forms.

  • Using scatter graph type in oracle 10g forms using bi beans

    hi.. how i can use scatter graph type in oracle 10g using bi beans..
    it seems scatter graph is supported in 10g but it doesnt work at all..
    i used to use oracle graphics builder in oracle 6i forms,now i need to convert all my old graphs to 10g forms..the line,bar and pie it work very well but the scatter didnt work..
    so please if anyone know how to use it please tell me.. and what versions of bi beans support the scatter graph type
    thanks.
    u can email me in
    [email protected]

    Hi,
    What version of Oracle Forms are you using? If it is 10.1.2.0.2 (10g R2 Phase 2) then the BI Beans version should be 10.1.2.1 (3.2.2.0.24.2).
    When you run a Graph, do you see any version numbers?
    Regardless of the version, scatter graph should work. What kind of errors are you getting?
    When you install BI Beans in JDeveloper, you get access to BI Beans Help. Go to the following topic for setting up data for a scatter graph:
    Help -> Building Applications with BI Beans -> Presenting Data in Graphs -> Specifying Data for Graphs
    Did you try posting your question on the Oracle Forms forum?

  • Restriction for the use of last_record in 10g forms

    Hi,
    When I was working on Forms 6i with the query in the trigger When_new_form_instance:
    go_block('ABC');
    execute_query;
    last_record;
    first record;
    go_block('DEF');
    execute_query;
    last_record;
    first record;
    It worked and gave correct data on frontend.
    When the same was used in 10g forms, it gave incorrect data.When we removed last_record from the query, it worked.
    Could somebody tell me is there some kind of restriction for the use of last_record in 10g forms? If yes, what kind of?
    Thanks,
    Neha

    When I set Query All records to Yes.
    Surprisingly it gives incorrect data.
    This is what is bothering me.
    As i said earlier i was using last_record for
    navigation purpose to fetch all the records from the
    database and then first_record to highlight the first
    record.
    You don't need to do that, that is poor programming logic. Instead change the block property Query All Records and set it to Yes.
    This will fetch all the records from the database and the highlight will be on the first record;

    Tony

    Please take a look at the Client Certification. It lists all of the browsers that are certified for the Java version you are using. Also, you will need to modify your configuration to correctly list the Java Plug-in version you have installed. For information on how to configure the JPI, take a look at Oracle 10gR2 Forms Services – Using Sun's Java Plug-in.

    Have you double-checked the one Form to ensure the Library is still attached? Also, when the Library was attached - was it attached in such a way that it recorded the path to the library (typically, when you attach a library - Forms will ask if you want to record the path (Y/N))?
    Hope this helps.

    I forgot to add, sometimes, just simply deleting the attached library and re-attaching it will fix the issue.

  • Error in uploading file using webutil_file_transfer

    Hi,
    I am using webutil for a forms module which would upload the required file into the database using webutil_file_transfer.client_to_db_with_progress.
    I have made the necessary changes to the files webutil.cfg and formsweb.cfg as per the instructions in the webutil documentation.
    The error is that the file I am trying to upload doesnt get uploaded.
    Following is the code snippet.
    DECLARE
       l_success   BOOLEAN;
    BEGIN
       l_success :=
          webutil_file_transfer.client_to_db_with_progress
                              (clientfile            => :upload.filename,
                               tablename             => 'TBL_UPLOAD',
                               columnname            => 'FILEDATA',

                               progresssubtitle      => 'Please wait...',
                               asynchronous          => FALSE,
                               callbacktrigger       => NULL
       commit;
       IF l_success
       THEN

       ELSE
          MESSAGE ('File upload to Database failed' );
       END IF;
    EXCEPTION
       WHEN OTHERS
       THEN
          MESSAGE ('File upload failed: ' || SQLERRM);
    END;I keep getting the message File Upload to Database Failed. The parameter transfer.database.enabled in the file webutil.cfg has also been enabled to TRUE.
    I am using Forms 10g, deployed on Red Hat Linux AS 4. The Database is Oracle 10G Release 2.
    Any suggestions, clues?
    Thanks,
    Rishikesh.

    I have finally got it working.
    I copied the version of webutil.pll file from the developer suite onto the server.
    This has got it working and the file(s) I am uploading are going through correctly.
    I still have one query though. The progress bar which displays the upload progress seems to be in the top left corner of the screen, any parameters we can set so as to get it in the middle of the screen?
    Thanks,
    Rishikesh

    Add the weblogic server's bin directory to your PATH. You will need to a couple of WLS jars to the CLASSPATH. There might be something in the installation/setup documentation that tells you all this. I have only used WLS 5.1 and 7.0.
