Using Word wisely as a linked document for RH HTML 9

I am new to application help authoring and a total newbie to RoboHelp.  I am writing a help project with RoboHelp HTML 9 for a brand-new software application.  Virtually no content already exists in any sort of document, so I have the opportunity/challenge of starting from scratch.  Since a handful of users will have authority to update content (but little bandwidth to learn much about RH), I was planning to write everything in Word 2010 and then link to my project.  What I'd like to know as I get started is:  Does this make sense as an approach (as opposed to, say, authoring in RH and then using print output for training and other doc requirements)?  What are the pitfalls to avoid?  What should I do/avoid in the Word doc to make the connection to RH 9 go as smoothly as possible?  Are certain layouts more congenial to linking with Word than others?
I realize this is several questions--I'd be happy to get a recommendation on a helpful source of info or guidance on making these sorts of macro decisions.  I self-educated using an "Essentials of RH" workbook and have studied the User's Guide and forums to create a prototype set of help topics for my client, but I haven't been able to find a good source of general info that addresses "why do this vs. that?" or "if I had had the luxury of being in control of the content from the get-go, I'd certainly have done X, Y, and Z."  I am grateful (in advance) for any help you more-experienced community members can suggest.

Turning off smart quotes will only eliminate them in future usage, but do nothing to the occurrences in existing docs.
You should therefore also do a Find & Replace (double quotes in each box, then another pass for single quotes) to "clear the palate," so to speak.

    Thank you for the question, I think it is easier to explain my current process which I hope you can translate into SAP EWM processes.
    I currently have a SKU description of THIRD PARTY STORAGE, this SKU is always a quantity of 1 for stock check purposes. This SKU can be many things but not inventory (in the sense of not a component or finished good). The pallet can be documents for retention, samples for QC, trial parts etc. This pallet can be received onto the WMS without a Purchase Order number, the SKU is set up to be able to be received 999999 times before a re-set is necessary. The SKU has a putaway algorythm for the high bay warehouse and is sub-zoned into an aisle.
    I hope this clarifies what I'm asking for in SAP.

    I prepared .html document has javascript code in it.
    Javascript code uses activex object to process .xsl for xml operation.
    I used html document in document iview but problem occured.
    I think activex object cause the problem or i gave wrong address  for xsl document.
    If i place xsl document in same folder with html document, how can it be addressed (xsl path)?
    Is there sample html document using javascript code that uses xsl and activex object in it?
    And is it tested as document iview with no problem?

    I just completed designing a website for my restaurant using Dreamweaver 8. I included my menu as part of the website and now wanted to print it for customer use in the restaurant. The document is in html format.
    You can only print your source code from Dreamweaver. I don't have DW8 installed anymore, but i think it's: File > Print (or Print Code).
    If you want to print how it looks with the HTML rendered, then print it from a browser.

  • Word 2013 - Work with Master Documents very slow

    Hello,
    we changed from Office 2003 to Office 2013.
    A user who creates many documentations by using master documents informed me, that he cannot work longer by using Word 2013, because extending master documents or refreshing table of contents takes long time.
    In Word 2003 it takes few seconds, in Word 2013 in takes some minutes!
    How can I improve this?

    The Master Documents "Feature"  in Word has long been broken. It remains broken in Word 2013 AFAIK. Read the linked article. There are alternatives. One of the easiest ways to lose
    tremendous amounts of work is to edit documents in Master Documents form. That you have used it this long without losing work is a minor miracle.

    Hello Everyone,
    We have iViews (which are simply reports) and have documentation explaining the overall report functionality.  These iViews are displayed via a workset iMap.  For each iView we would also like to have a "link" to a word, pdf, etc..  document.  Basically any document type we decide on.
    Is there a way to accomplish this?  I'm sure there is.

    You can achieve this by making use of KM. Follow these steps for achieving the same.
    1. Create a folder in Portal Content Management and upload all the help documents into it.
    2. In this folder, create seperate links to indivisual help documents uploaded by specifying the target and name.
    3. Click on the created links and copy the URL's
    4. Open the I Views/Pages in PCD, and place the corresponding URLs in URL to Help Topic property of the respective I Views/Pages.
    5. Enable the I View Tray property - Show Help Option
    For every view , you can have some help file in the context links (Help) in the right corner of the Title area.

  • Using Word linked documents

    I am using RH8 and want to create a new project for a team that wants to be able to update its material on a monthly basis.My thought is to create Word documents and link them into a RH project that would be mostly made up of these linked documents. There might be a few small document within the project that aren't going to be linked. I've been advised to keep the Word documents quite small so the first one I'm looking at is 17 pages in Word. My question: is there a better way to get what I want besides linking documents?

    I'm a new user to RoboHelp10 and, based on research I've done online, I think the best use of the product for me is to link to previously-created word documents in order to create my online help project, since they are set up in a way that will translate into the topics.   I am trying to create a project and to link documents instead of importing them, since I think from a maintenance perspective, this will be better long-term.  I am also considering my company's my company's version control processes already in place.  I chose to "Create a Copy and Link" so all the linked files are contained within the project itself, and I generated the topic for the document I'm working with right now.  I then updated the Word document (via RoboHelp) and based on the help topic in "help.adobe.com/en_US/robohelp/robohtml/WS5DFA0634-079B-4265-89D7-2A59540BAB2D.html#commu nity" I thought that updating the Word document would automatically update the topic(s) linked to it, as long as I updated the copy of the document that RoboHelp created (and I actually did this by right-clicking on the doucment and chosing edit).  I saved and closed the Word document, and when I didn't see the topic updated, I right-clicked on the linked document but could not select Update (it's grayed out).  If I choose Force Update I am then able to see my updates from the document to the topic.  I don't understand why RoboHelp isn't recognizing the changes I make to the documents that are linked via "Create a Copy and Link".  Can someone tell me what step I'm missing?  And, even better, if you can understand my intntions above, and can recommend a better way to set up my project, that would be even better.  Thank you, and have a great day!!!

    Do a Get Info (command - I) on a docx document, unlock the padlock, and change the open with to Microsoft Word. Then click change all.

    I am facing a problem with setting up the object link for the transaction id field. My requirement is when i click on the order id, it should open up the particular order.
    For example this kind of scenario is done in application CRMD_BUS2000120. here in the result list we get the list of transaction ids and on click of the id it opens the particular order. Can anyone tell me how to implement the same.

    Hi,
    In the result list to open the property they wud ve used is Internal Link. For the order to open from some other link you have to mention your link details.
    Say, for opening any account form some other screen you have to give the details as follows in the propetied of the particular field,
    object Type : AccountCRM
    Method : Application
    Field -> Object Key : NAV_OBJECT_KEY.

  • How to insert blank page into pages document when using word processing mode?

    I've recently created a 50+ page document using Pages '09. I started the document using word processing mode. Now, when I view in thumbnail mode and try to insert a blank page somehwere in the middle of the document, it won't allow me to select where I want. It just selects all the pages, as thought they are one section. I believe this is because I am in word processing mode. My question is, can I convert the document to layout mode so that each page represents it's own section, without losing what work I've already done? And if so, how?
    The document is entirely text boxes and images, so I don't have any need for word processing space. I just need new pages to act as blank templates for the text boxes and images I create.
    Is it possible to keep all my work as is, and convert the document to layout mode vs. word processing mode?

    It just selects all the pages, as thought they are one section.
    That's because they are one section. You must insert section breaks to separate them. There is no need to use page layout which does make each page a separate section. You have to manually add each page & use text boxes or other containers for the text & link the text boxes.

    My requirement is to create a document library associated to a custom content type with a document template associated. Also I need to create a document based on the template in this document library when a new item is created in another list by taking the
    reference ID of that new Item , I need to create the document with the name appended by ID. I need to do all this deployment using WSP.

    This works perfect for me.
    However, there are few observations, when going to Document Library > Library Settings > Advanced Settings > Document Template section - doesnt shows the Edit template link. When tried to look at the value for the document template using view source
    , it is giving me /Lists/MyDocsListInstance/Forms/template.dotx instead of the actual template file uploaded.
    Ignoring the above observation, when I am trying to create a sandbox based workflow in visual studio to create document in document library when new item is created in another list, I provide the ContentTypeID as the ID associated with the document library
    with template. 
    It creates the corrupt document at end of workflow. 
    I have tried using .docx instead of .dotx files for workflow as per solution provided in some of the post but it isnt resolving my issue.
    Any help is much appreciated.

    OK, I am going to throw out a lot of ideas here so hopefully they get you closer to a diagnosis. Hang on :)
    Does it happen to work for some users but not others? If so, try logging in on the "good" computer with the "bad" username. This will tell you if the problem is related to the end-user's system. Also, once the user downloads a document
    successfully can they open and work on it in Word? Also, does the document library have any custom content types associated with it or does it just use 'Document'?
    I notice that there are other folks on the web that have run into this same problem and the similarity seems to be that they are either on SharePoint 2007 or have upgraded from 2007. Did this doc library start out as a 2007 library?
    What you might want to do is this: Make a site collection from scratch in 2013 (or find one that you know was created in 2013). Choose team site (or whatever you want) for the root web and set up the security the same way you have it on the malfunctioning
    library. Now, use windows explorer to copy and paste some of the documents to the new location. Be sure you recreate any needed content types. Now test it from the troubled user's computer.
    I'm thinking there may be something that is different about the library since it was migrated through various versions and updates since 2007. I've sometimes found that there can be problems (especially with user profiles but that's a different story) with
    things that go through this evolution.

    I make a change to the template but am unable to save the darned thing to the template folder; it asks for a file name like it's a new document. I want to change the blasted template but if I can't save it as a modified template, I've accomplished nothing.
