Internal Hard Drive Died - Now replaced - Disk Utility Internal Error

When using the original system disk to install OSX the new hard drive isn't recognised even though I have formatted it for an intel based mac (GUID Partition, Extended Journaled etc) using my imac . When launching Disk Utility from the system disk and trying to erase/partion the drive, I get the following error message "Disk Utility Internal Error - Disk Utility has lost its connection with the Disk Management Tool...". When connected to my imac using a converter it appears on my desktop. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The macbook in question is a 2006 (white). PLEASE HELP.....

Hi - Thanks for your reply. I have tried that but it still doesn't work. I have had a look around online for the past couple of hours and I found a post that said that newer hard drives can't be recognised by an original 10.4 osx system disk. I would need to find a copy of 10.5 to install OSX on a new hard drive. I dont know if that's true because I dont have a copy of 10.5. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Disk Utility internal error message

I am receiving an error message every time I try to repair permissions on my MB running OS X 10.4:
error:
Disk Utility Internal Error
Disk Utility has lost its connection with the Disk Management Tool and cannot continue. Please quit and re launch Disk Utility.
Tried that several times to no avail. After quittting Disk Utility, system becomes very sluggish and Finder stops responding.
I then booted from the installation CD and ran a Hard Disk integrity check. It checked Ok. Then I tried a permission repair and got the exact same error message quoted above.
Any help?

There was a problem with this a couple of years ago involving iTunes Library Receipt files. See [Mac OS X 10.3: Repair Disk Permissions 'Disk Utility has lost its connection with the Disk Management Tool.|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303132].
It seems unlikely that would surface now, but the suggested fix is worth trying. The article also mentions looking at Console log. Console is in Applications/Utilities.

Disk Utility: Burn error: 0x80020022 The device failed to respond...

I've been working on archiving a ton of video to DVD. I'm using Dual-Layer discs to minimize the amount of physical storage space needed for the finished project. I burned several discs in iDVD in July and regularly received errors. Then the drive suddenly stopped loading any type of media. Anything I inserted would spin briefly and then eject. Repaired permissions and followed steps outlined here and here. Took the Mac back to the store where I bought it (sadly, not an Apple Store - nearest one is 12 hrs away) where naturally it performed flawlessly for the store rep.
So I took it home and resumed burning, now saving as a disc image (ignoring iDVD's warning about the performance of DVDs burned this way) and using Disk Utility, since iDVD didn't seem to be reliable. Burned about 25 discs, error-free, in this fashion, then three days ago, got the error: "Unable to burn “Disc 19.img”. (The device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry.)"
Retried the same image, and it worked. Then burned two more in the same fashion with no errors. Today I got the same error again. Logs are identical for each failed burn, except for the time span between certain lines.
Price of DL media being what it is, I'd hate to keep ruining discs if there's something I can do to avoid it. I suppose it could be bad media, but it seems odd that I'd get two bum discs that close together after burning so many without issue. Checked the site and the forums, and there doesn't seem to be any answers. Does anyone have any ideas? (Other than "try a different brand of media." I've got a buttload of these discs and it's too late to return them now.) Even if it just helps determine where the issue lies. Warranty will be up soon, so if it's hardware related, I need to get it taken care of quick.

I have encountered the same problem. I have a Mac Book Pro from 2007, and it has gone through 3 DVD writers so far, all of which have ruined DVD+R DL disks. I have occasionally been able to burn one, but usually during verify, I get this error message:
Communication to the disk drive failed: 0x8002022
And disk utility fails with a "Invalid B-tree node size" error
Oddly, when I try to burn a disk near capacity (6.5Gb or more) it is more likely to fail than if I burn a smaller disk.
I've been using Memorex DVD+R DL disks, but I have used other brands in the past but they have failed, too. Out of about 50 disks so far, I have had success with about 5.

System Image Utility Failing Error 2 Yosemite

I'm trying to create an net install image of the OS X Yosemite installer. It worked with 10.0, now on 10.0.1 I'm getting an error "System Image Utility Failing Error 2". I've tried it a few different ways but I get the same result every time. Has anyone been able to create a 10.0.1 image?

After doing all that I described in my previous post three things happened:
1. I need to proof read better mi writing (I am fluent in english but of course is not my native language).
2. The NetInstall image I created did work!, but it failed at 99.99% verifying leaving a useless installation. I was able to bring back some computers by reinstalling only the system, but most of them had to be erased and reimaged again.
And number 3:
I found another solution that worked fine this time. !!!
(well, it had a hiccup but not a show stopper)
What is needed:
- A known working NetInstall image.
Steps:
1. Copy the NetInstall.nbi folder to another location.
2. Using Disk Utility convert the image file NetInstall.dmg (inside the NetInstall.nbi) to a read/write image, preferably to a sparse image.
3. Mount the new image and locate the folder 'Packages' inside it (it is invisible in the Finder).
4. Remove System.dmg
5. Copy your source image on the same place and make sure it is named System.dmg and is of type read-only / compressed. (If the new image is bigger than the one before, it will be useful that the NetInstall.dmg be a sparse image.)
6. If the source image was not previously scanned for ASR, do it now.
7. Unmount the NetInstall disk
8. Using Disk Utility convert your new NetInstall.dmg to read-only / compressed.
9. Rename your NetInstall.nbi to YourNewNetInstall.nbi
10. Edit the file NBImageInfo.plist (inside the YourNewNetInstall.nbi) and locate the line with the old name of the .nbi and change it to the new one. Locate the "Index" and change it too (maybe simply add 1.) Also, change the line that mentions the System version and change it to the one that the new NetInstall contains (up to only the first decimal.)
11. Move back YourNewNetInstall.nbi to the NetBootSP0 folder where it came from.
12. In Server activate your new NetInstall source (you can change the index there too) and update the computers list it will be served to.
Ready!
Using this I could reinstall the computers without a problem this time.
Ok, I said there were a hiccup:
After finishing, the computers restarted to their recovery partition and a simple restart brought them back to it. Using Disk Utility and verifying the disk was enough to restart them properly.

E-Series Diagnostic Utility gives Error 10243

NI-DAQmx recognizes and works well with my PCI-6024E but Tradional NI-DAQ does not recognize board.
E-Series Diagnostic Utility returns "Error 10243 occurred at cwdaq. The driver could not locate or open the configuration file, or the format of the configuration file is not compatible with the currently installed driver."
No *.DAQ files can be found on root drive (including C:/Windows).
MAX 3.1 repeated installed and un-installed (includes Traditional NI-DAQ 7.3.0f1 & NI-DAQmx 7.3.1f0) does not help.
Un-installing and re-installing PCI-6024E in Device Manager does not help.
Running Windows XP Home Edition, SP 2, logged in as user with administrator privileges. Also running Norton Antivirus, Norton Firewall, Norton Intrusion Detection. No messages of logs from security software.
Next move: un-install NI software, turn off security software and reinstall.
Question: is it necessary to be logged in administrator when installing, or is a user with administrator privileges sufficient?
Question: Why do I not have a configuration file?

OK, I've done the following and Traditional NI-DAQ still does not even show up under "Devices and Interfaces" in MAX:
1) Uninstall of ALL NI software using the usual Windows Add/Remove Programs.
2) Removed the PCI-6024E and checked it in a different computer. Traditional NI-DAQ recognizes it. NI-DAQmx in current computer has seen PCI_6024E. HARDWARE IS GOOD!
3) Searched for files containing DAQ, NI or National and manually deleted them.
4) Downloaded fresh copy of NIDAQ731CD1, extracted and installed Traditional NI-DAQ only. I see NO DIFFERENCE between this the prior sets of files. Shut down computer.
5) Installed PCI-6024E. Started computer, allowed card to be recognized.
6) Started MAX. Card is not only not recognized by Traditional NI-DAQ, but My System / Devices and Interfaces does not have a line for Traditional NI-DAQ.
7) Went to Device Manager. Data Acquisition Devices / PCI-6024E is listed in good condition. Oddly enough the Properties for this devices show Driver Date and Driver Version as "Not Available". IS THIS CORRECT?
WHAT IS MY NEXT MOVE?
A) I counted +175 Registry values containing "National". No telling how many more DAQ entries there are. DO I HAVE TO MANUALLY REMOVE THESE?
B) After supposedly unintalling NI software I found A LOT of directories, files and registry values left behind. I'm guessing that one of these is bad and is being inherited by the new installation. HOW DO I REMOVE EVERYTHING? Is there a utility available that wipes EVERYTHING (short of reformating the drive)?
You can probably tell by the capitalized words that I'm getting irate. I've spent a couple of days working on this and am disappointed.

Time capsule remote access message from airport utility "An error occurred while reading the configuration"

WHEN I TRY TO ACCESS Time capsule remotely, I receive a message from airport utility "An error occurred while reading the configuration." It worked before on the same computer with the same setting. I am in a different country now (Afghanistan). Not sure if that can be an issue.

If the TC is at home and in router mode as the main router of the network, get someone at home to give you the current public IP which will be on the summary page of the airport utility.
With the public IP try and access it by typing the IP directly into finder.. go.. connect to server.
AFP://publicip.
If you have setup WAN access it will. Otherwise no.
For BTMM and iCloud access and its various issues.. this thread may give you some ideas.

If the icloud method proves unreliable and you are dependent on access to the TC.. I strongly recommend better and more reliable access methods.. in particular buy a VPN modem or router.. whichever suits your internet type and put the TC in bridge behind it. Direct connect to the TC via the vpn.
You will need either a static public IP which you purchase as an extra from your ISP .. maybe via a business account or setup a dyndns account which are readily available.

Safari wont open; disc utility says errors on the drive but cant fix them

Hi, Safari isnt opening despite my installing it again from the CD as well as trying to install it from the latest version available online (I saved it onto my thumbdrive from another computer). So I ran disc utility and it says there are errors but that its not allowed to fix them since its mac HD that has the errors.
I couldnt copy and paste the log as it says 'not enough memory to complete the operation' but this is what the last bit said:
Volume bitmap needs minor repair check volume information. The volume MacintoshHD needs to be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit.
Additionally a lot of other applications: tech tool deluxe (from the apple protection plan CD), word etc. have been quitting for no reason. Is this a virus? Is there anything I can download to fix this?
Please help, I'm desperately trying to fnish my thesis on time...any suggestions would be hugely appreciated.

I ran disc utility and it says there are errors but that its not allowed to fix them since its mac HD that has the errors.
There are no viruses on your machine. Macs to date have not been affected by the typical viruses seen on PC's.
It seems you have directory errors on your Hard Drive. These can be caused by the machine shutting off unexpectedly (power failure), corrupted application code, or even lack of routine system maintenance.
You cannot correct directory errors on the same drive you are operating from - in this case your Hard Drive. In order to correct the errors, you need to start-up from your Installer DVD. Insert the disc. Once loaded, restart the computer. When the screen turns momentarily dark, hold down the C key. This tells the machine to start up from the DVD rather than the Hard Drive.
You can release the C key once you hear the CD engaged and the grey Apple screen appears. When fully installed, go to the Installer Menu and select "Disk Utility". When the Disk Utility panel appears, single-click on your Hard Drive on the left side. This will open the First Aid Panel. On the right you'll see "repair disk". Select it. Errors will appear during the process. Once done, continue to rerun until you get a clean pass.
Once finished, quit DU and quit the Installer. This will automatically restart the computer. From here, the log-in screen ought to appear and ultimately your Desktop.
When complete, go to the Utilities folder and select "disk utility". Again, highlight your hard drive. In the first-aid panel on the left select "repair permissions." This will not take very long. Refrain from using the computer while it is running.
Post back with results - there is more to do.

Disk Utility returning error

Hello, I am trying to zero out all data on one volume of my OWC Firewire hard drive. I am receiving an "Underlying task error" both when I try to zero erase or Verify/Repair. Any thoughts on this?

Boot with your install disk, select your language, and, when the menu bar pops up, select Utilities->Disk Utility and try repairing it from there. If it works, then then try the zero out data option. If it works, then, check the internal HD. When finished, quit DU, Utilities->Startup Disk, select the internal and click restart.
