Validating string integer with parseInt

(Dumb question) So far I have:
Object myObj = new JOptionPane.showInputDialog(
   "null", "Select", "Select",
   JOptionPane.DEFAULT_OPTION, null, null);
String s = myObj.toString();
myInt = Integer.parseInt(s);Trying to idiot proof it so people dont type in 'two'
Looking for a decent solution. I tried
while(myInt.equals("false"))
Object myObj = new JOptionPane.showInputDialog(
"null", "Select", "Select",
JOptionPane.DEFAULT_OPTION, null, null);
String s = myObj.toString();
myInt = Integer.parseInt(s);
But it says int cannot be dereferenced. Hmm.
I've been using the search function too..
Off topic: the guy who shares my office drives me nuts. "What is html ?"
&%$#!!

JOptionPane.showInputDialog returns a String => no need to do Object to String conversion.
Tryint input = 0;
String message = "Select";
while (true) {
  String s = new JOptionPane.showInputDialog( "null",
                                              message,
                                              "Select",
                                              JOptionPane.DEFAULT_OPTION,
                                              null,
                                              null );
  try {
    input = Integer.parseInt(s);
    break;
  catch (NumberFormatException nfe) {
    message = "Invalid input: " + s + "\n"
              "Select";
}

  • Validate integer with a comma thousands seperator using struts Validator

    Using struts validator.
    have to validate the user entered value.
    The value entered should be a positive integer with a comma thousands seperator. the number need not be in thousands.
    I have as below to check for positive integer without comma seperator. but not sure how to validate if the user entered value with a comma seperator?
    i.e value like 25,349 // how to validate this?
    <field property="hrs" depends="integer,validwhen">
    <msg name="integer" key="errors.notvalid"/>
    <msg name="validwhen" key="errors.notvalid"/>
    <var>
    <var-name>test</var-name>
    <var-value>(*this* >= 0)</var-value>
    </var>
    </field>
    how to validate the user entered value with a comma seperator? Thanks.

    Found this in Struts' Building View Components section: Note: If your required form property is one of the Java object representations of primitive types (ie. java.lang.Integer), you must set the ActionServlet's convertNull init. parameter to true. Failing to do this will result in the required validation not being performed on that field because it will default to 0. This seems to be part of my problem. With it turned on, Validator picks up that the value is required. Now to figure out the issue with putting in a double value instead of an Integer.

  • Validation on Integer data type attribute

    Hi,
    Working on jdev 11.1.1.3.0
    I have to do validation on integer data type like, it should not allow 13.20(only single digit numbers.).
    I am doing validation on AMImpl and converting the int into string
    String per=Row.getPer().toString();// here if user enter 13.20, then per containing only 13 so its not going to inside if.
    if(StringUtils.contains(per,"."))
    return false;
    Even i have written regular expression on my field but its working

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply.
    The problem is i'm creating a XML out of this constant and when this value is assigned to a string, the string value is represented as "1-" and further with this value the XML is created.

  • Need advice on negating a whole string line with regular expression

    Hi All,
    I am not able to ignore / get rid of the following line even though my Java 6 (Windows XP) String Pattern matching has not taken cater for it:
    *% Cleared: 61%*
    Below is the existing Java String Pattern matching in the simple program:
    Pattern pattern = Pattern.compile("(^.*[A-Z][a-z]*){1,2} \\d{0,4}/?\\d{0,4} ([A-Z][a-z]*){1,2} St|Rd|Av|Sq|Cl|Pl|Cr|Gr|Dr|Hwy|Pde|Wy|La \\d br [h|u|t] \\$\\d+,\\d+|\\$\\d*\\,\\d+,\\d+ ([A-Z][a-z]*){1,}.*$");This pattern is working for valid strings.
    The following pattern has included "^(?!.*\.\.).*$" into the existing one but had no luck still:
    Pattern pattern = Pattern.compile("^(?!.*\.\.).*$|((^.*[A-Z][a-z]*){1,2} \\d{0,4}/?\\d{0,4} ([A-Z][a-z]*){1,2} St|Rd|Av|Sq|Cl|Pl|Cr|Gr|Dr|Hwy|Pde|Wy|La \\d br [h|u|t] \\$\\d+,\\d+|\\$\\d*\\,\\d+,\\d+ ([A-Z][a-z]*){1,}.*$)");This picked up other rubbish including "*% Cleared: 61%*".
    I am looking for a single regular expression that applies to the whole line.
    I am quite new to regular expression but has read through Regular Expressions Cookbook (Oreilly - 2009) and is still not familiar with advance functions such as lookahead / lookbehind...
    Your assistance would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jack

    Hi Winston,
    I am still digesting the material from the regular expression book and will take sometime to become proficient with it.
    It seems that using groupCount() to eliminate the unwanted text does not work in this case, since all the lines returned the same value. Ie 3 posted earlier. This may be because the patterns are complex and only a few were grouped together. Otherwise, could you provide an example using the string posted as opposed to a hyperthetic one. In the meantime, at least one solution have been found by defining an additional special pattern “\\A[^%].*\\Z”, before combining / intersecting both existing and the new special pattern to get the best of both world. Another approach that should also work is to evaluate the size of String.split() and only accept those lines with a minimum number of tokens.
    Anyhow, I have come a crossed another minor stumbling block in the mean time with the following line, where some hidden characters is preventing the existing pattern from reading it:
    o;?Mervan Bay 40 Boyde St 7 br t $250,000 X West Park AE
    Below is the existing regular expression that works for other lines with the same pattern but not for special hidden characters such as “o;?”:
    \\A([A-Z][a-z]*){1,2} [0-9]{0,4}/?[0-9]{0,4}-?[0-9]{0,4} ([A-Z][a-z]*){1,2} St|Rd|Av|Sq|Cl|Pl|Cr|Gr|Dr|Hwy|Pde|Wy|La [0-9] br [h|u|t] \\$\\d+,\\d+|\\$\\d*\\,\\d+,\\d+ ([A-Z][a-z]*){1,}\\ZIs it possible to come up with a regular expression to ignore them so that this line could be picked up? Would also like to know whether I could combine both the special pattern “\\A[^%].*\\Z” with existing one as opposed to using 2 separate patterns altogether?
    Many thanks,
    Jack

  • I have a Text control string box with some initial text. I would like to highlight old text with click of mouse and type in new data from keyboard

    I have a text control string box with some initial text (says: Please enter Name). I would like the operator to click on the text control box and have it automatically highlight so that when new data is typed in the old erases (all at once) and the new data is now in the text box.
    I tried using the "Text.Selection" property node and when I run it and put the mouse inside the text box the initial text is highlighted and if I press "delete" on the keyboard or if I start to type in new data the initial data does delete but once I start to type new characters they erase each other. For example if I want to type in “Willi
    am” I type the “W” and then the “I” but the “I” erases the “W” and now I am only left with an “I” in the text box and so on. I appreciate any help

    It seems you are continuously setting the property node over and over again. This should only happen once if you mouse over it.
    Create a property node for your text control with the following three items:
    (1) KeyFocus (wire a "true" constant to it)
    (2) Text.SelStart (Wire a "zero" constant to it)
    (3) Text.SelEnd (Wire a constant containing the string length of the text).
    Put this property node inside an event structure, triggered by "Mouse enter" on the string control.
    (see if the attached example works for you)

  • Can't get Struts validator to work with ADF 10.1.3.36.73 in Jdev 10.1.3.0.4

    I am attempting to use the "How to Use the Struts Validator Plug-in with JDeveloper 10g" written by Duncan in a JDeveloper 10.1.3.0.4 application with standard model/ViewController projects. I am using JSP/Struts/ADF technologies.
    I have performed the below:
    Struts Config:
    <form-bean name="surveyDataForm" type="oracle.adf.controller.v2.struts.forms.BindingContainerValidationForm" className="oracle.adf.controller.struts.forms.BindingContainerValidationFormConfig"/>
    <plug-in className="org.apache.struts.validator.ValidatorPlugIn">
    <set-property property="pathnames" value="/WEB-INF/validator-rules.xml,/WEB-INF/validation.xml"/>
    </plug-in>
    In the validation.xml:
    <!DOCTYPE form-validation
    PUBLIC "-//Apache Software Foundation//
    DTD Commons Validator Rules
    Configuration 1.0//EN"
    "http://jakarta.apache.org/
    commons/dtds/validator_1_0.dtd">
    <form-validations>
    <formset>
    <form name="surveyDataForm">
    <field property="EmpName" depends="required">
    <arg0 key="survey.name"/>
    </field>
    <field property="DateOfService" depends="required">
    <arg0 key="survey.service.date"/>
    </field>
    <field property="ReloContractor" depends="required">
    <arg0 key="survey.relo.contract"/>
    </field>
    </form>
    </formset>
    </form-validations>
    And in my JSP, I have:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    <html:javascript formName="surveyDataForm"/>
    </script>
    <html:form action="/survey.do" onsubmit="return validateSurveyDataForm(this)">
    (The validation-rules.xml was copied from the JDev install jakarta-struts folder).
    I can now see the Javascript showing up in my JSP page, but I don't have a method generated for validateSurveyDataForm or any form like this. I didn't think I had to create this. Also, even without the Javascript, the validator is not called because the JBO errors for required are still showing up. The only thing I have not done is included the modelReference in the Form Bean definition in the struts-config.xml. I'm not sure this will work, or even what to populate this with, as the UIModel.xml is replaced by PageDef.xml and DataBindings.cpx changes.
    Anyone have any ideas?

  • What's the data type when defining a KF to show an integer with a sign?

    We want show some days difference which should be an integer with either a positive or negative sign.  I used to design a KF with type of Number with "DEC - Counter or amount field with comma and sign" as the Data Type, but find it shows 25.000 if the day difference is 25 days.  We want to show it as 25 other than 25.000.  Then what type would we pick when defining the KF?  Use Integer as the type?  But we also want it to show the sign symbol.
    The type field is dimmed as long as the InfoObj. is activated that I have to remove this field.  I've delete all the data loaded in ODS, PSA and etc., and I have successfully remove this KF from InfoSource, but when I try to remove it from the ODS, always get the msg "Can't move/delete locked InfoObjects" even if the InfoObject is not locked (I've tried SM12 to delete all locked entries and also tried relog on, but not helpful).  If someone gives any idea, I would be very appreciated on how to remove this KF from ODS and also let me what type should I use when creating a new KF which only shows integer with a sign!
    Thanks

    hey Siggi,
    Now after I right click the ODS and select "Delete Data", the KF eventually gets removed from the ODS without any error, then I continue to delete this InfoObj.
    However, when I run the InfoPackage to load data to the ODS, get a msg (see below in between two dashed lines):
    Syntax error in GP_ERR_RSDRO_UPDATE, row 1,210 (-> long text)
    Message no. RG102
    Diagnosis
    The data object "I_S_OLDDATA" does not have a component called "/BIC/Z_field".
    Where Z_field is the InfoObject we deleted.  With this error, that's even worse since that stops any data coming in!  How to get rid of this error that we can continue to load data?
    Thanks

  • How to test if String starts with a Range of numbers

    Hello,
    I'm reading in a line from a text file and I want to see if that line starts with numbers.
    I know there is
    String temp = file.readline();
    if (String temp.startsWith(?1-9?); // want to check if string starts with 1 thru 9
    Thanks!

    Try the following:
    String temp = file.readline();
    if (temp.equals("1") || temp.equals("2")....... || temp.equals("9") {
    System.out.println("String is beetween 1 - 9");
    else{
    System.out.println("String is not beetween 1 - 9");
    Replace the "....." by the other values... I know it's quite long, but it should work... must be an easier way though...

    Hi,
    If you're looking for the ability to append different strings, then you should probably be looking to an external process.
    If you're looking to append the same string, I can think of one way. Make your report script fixed-width (that way you always know which character in the line you're changing) and then utilize the MASK command. (you can find it in the Tech Ref under Report Commands)

    Those are entity references (without the whitespace after '&').
    Do you really want to remove them, or do you actually want to convert them back to their corresponding characters but don't know how to do it?
