Variables in hyperlink causing line breaks
Hi,
RoboHelp 8.0.2 - Win XP.
A colleague has created a sentence on a page, dropped two variables into the middle and then converted the sentence to a hyperlink which jumps to an link lower down the screen.
When previewed the sentence looks fine but when generated the sentence breaks across three lines where the variables start.
She's done the same thing on other pages and it looks fine when generated. What could be wrong with this page? I've checked the HTML and it looks the same as other pages to me.
Any help appreciated.
Nick.
Hi
Thanks chaps. It's a WebHelp output.
I've just tried to isolate the problem. I created a new page, repeated the process to put the hyperlink in and the problem still occured so it seems to be with the variable. I deleted the variable and re-created it and the sentence is no longer broken.
Wonder why the variable created the page break?
Anyway shall spend no longer worrying about it and put the experience down to RoboHelps ability to start acting weird when a deadline approaches (As all other software packages I touch seem to do).
Thanks for your time.
Nick.

PP 2007 - line break bug - not solvable with language settings
Hi
I have somewhat the same problem with my Powerpoint 2007 as this guy:
http://www.justanswer.com/microsoft-office/67fyp-inserting-comma-causes-line-break-even-when-plenty.html
Except it doesn't only occur with a comma. When I write in a textbox or a shape (speech bubble etc), Powerpoint sometimes forces a line break in the middle of a line (not in the middle of a word) without any reason whatsoever. It occurs
out of the blue, suddenly there is a line break in the middle of a line and I can't do anything about it. It looks like it turns on word wrap in the middle of the textbox, shape or whatever I am writing in.
Part of the problem can be solved using the language settings->japanese->allow latin text to wrap in the middle of a word. When I ran this procedure, the checkbox was unchecked, and when I checked it, the line breaks disappeared,
just as I wanted. BUT: now I am stuck with the another problem, namely that powerpoint wraps the text in the middle of the word which naturally breaks the word into two at the end of each line.
The only solution to this problem is doing the language settings->japanese-trick, as far as I can see after searching the web. And if I do that, if I uncheck the Allow latin...-box I get the same problem I had in the first place,
with the line break in the middle of the line.
I hope someone can help me with this.
Kind regards
Mikkel ClemmensenI have raised a bug on this issue and I am actively looking into it.

Unable to find line break between two lines in attachment file.
Dear all I will be very great full if someone help me out,
I am trying to send mail through SMTP server with an attachment of oracle report, but I am unable to find line break between two lines, when I down load the attachment from mail and open attach.txt file by double click on it. Next line starts right after previous line ends, it should starts with new line.
In order to send an attachment file, I am reading source file line by line and put MIME protocol’s attachment instance, contain of source file is being properly written into target file if I open that attachment on cmd prompt.
Following code may help you to understand the case.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I am facing the problem that when I read the content of the
texteditor, store it in a javascript variable, and then write it
again into the editor area, all line breaks (not html line breaks,
just the line breaks for the code structure) are gone.
For Example if the content of the Editor is the following:
Test line 1
Test line 5
If I know call my function the value of the texteditor will
be somethign like: "Test line1 Test line 5"
I tried finding the linebreaks and replacing them (either \n,
\r or \n\r) but had no success in doing that.
My code of the function:
var theDom=dw.getDocumentDOM();
var temp = theDom.documentElement.outerHTML;
theDom.documentElement.outerHTML="";
theDom.documentElement.outerHTML=temp;
So I assume Javascript and dw are using different formats,
but I cant find much information about whats being used.
Any help appreicated!
Best,
DavidHi Brent,
Use CHR(10) in text editor for a new line. for example( 'SAP' & CHR(10) & 'Visual' & CHR(10) & 'Composer') will display like,
SAP
Visual
Composer
Hope it helps....

How to handle line break embeded inside CSV column
Hi there,
I am under the pressure to make it work. I already put this question on APEX forum, but on second thought, I think it relates more to PL/SQL rather than APEX since APEX 4.1 already have utility to handle CSV Upload.
If you read it already in APEX forum, please ignore.
I am sorry for that. Thanks for reading.
I need to develop an app that allows user to upload CSV file to a interface table.
The APEX version at my workplace is 4.0.2.
I used the code from
http://dbswh.webhop.net/htmldb/f?p=BLOG:READ:0::::ARTICLE:11000346061523
It all works well till recently I find out
If a column in a CSV file cotain a line break (or new line) e.g. (The tester copy and paste this text which has line break into a column in a spreadsheet)
This is the first sentence.
This is the second sentence.
It will break the “This is the second sentence”. To a new column.
The contents of the CSV viewed in Notepad look as below
Assessment Date,Scheduled Date,Assessment Provider,Assessor Name,Court,First Name,Middle Name,Last Name,PRN Person Record Number,NHI Number,Defendant Attended Y/N,Is Dependent Y/N,Notes,Primary Ethnicity,"Ethnicity Other, please specify",Gender,Currently in Treatment Y/N,Substance of Concern 5,Other Substance Specified
22/09/2012,,Provider Co Name,Warren Edgley,Wellington,,,Salty,2545554,dgsdf,ergerg,,"This is the first sentence.
This is the second sentence.",Japanese,,Female,b,,
Here is the code from the CSV UTIL, please help me to find out how can I replace the line break to a space so that the uploading process is correct.

I want to find out how can replace these line break inside a column to a space.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Yes, exactly. That piece of code believes all CHR(10) occurences are record delimiters.
It is not smart enough to recognize that a CHR(10) within quotation marks are part of the data.
Optimally a solution should keep the CHR(10) rather than replacing with spaces, but that will be a bigger rewrite of the UTL_CSV code ;-)
If you are happy with replacing with spaces, a "simple" solution could be something like:
Declare a boolean variable in upload procedure:
v_within_text_column boolean := false;And use it like this:
WHILE (v_position <= v_clob_len + 1)
LOOP
v_char := DBMS_LOB.SUBSTR (v_clob_data, c_chunk_len, v_position);
IF v_char = '"' THEN
v_within_text_column := NOT v_within_text_column;
ELSIF v_char = CHR(10) AND v_within_text_column THEN
v_char := ' ';
END IF;
v_line := v_line || v_char;
v_position := v_position + c_chunk_len;
-- When the whole line is retrieved and not end of file or end of file
IF v_char = CHR (10) AND v_position < v_clob_len OR v_position = v_clob_len + 1
THEN
v_within_text_column := false; -- To be safe always set this on "true" linebreaks
{code}
+(This is untested code just written here in the text editor.)+
It should work by toggling a flag whether you are "within" the quotes or not and then replacing CHR(10) with a space if you are within a text column.
This way we avoid having to go through the clob more than once (it is enough that this code walks the clob one character at a time...)
It will not handle if the clob contains situations like:
{code}
abc,123,"This is a text with a quote from a man who said \"To Be,
or Not To Be\" some hundred years ago",123,xyz
{code}
Escaped quotes would need separate attention ;-) -
How to insert new line break in XSLT mapping
Hi experts,
I am doing file to mail scenario, i am sending the text file as an attachment using reciever mail adapter.
I did everything, i can able to send the mail with text file attachment, but with in the file i got multiple rows, i need to put line break in XSLT mapping.
I did use following statement but it is inserting small rectangle between the records, the records are not separating with new lines, all are in one line.
<xsl:text>*#xA;</xsl:text>
note: in real coding replace * with &
Can anyone suggest me how to insert new line in XSLT mapping.
My XSLT mapping as look like:
<?xml version='1.0'?>

Kind regards,
PraveenHi,
I think <xsl:text>#xa;</xsl:text> should do the trick, but depending on which OS (ux or win), the "new line" chars sequence is different (win would require a CRLF like <xsl:text>#xd;*#xa;</xsl:text>)

Hi All,
I have a workflow which gives a workitem in the UWL. I display few variables in the workitem in UWL. All the values in the variables are fine. But the problem is all the variables are coming as continuous text without line breaks. I have given HTML line-break code at the end of each line in my activity step. Line-breakk code is working fine for the user-decision step in one of my other workflows but it is not working in this activity step.
Where could be the problem? Please help.
Regards,
Sunny

What is the application you are using to Display the workitem in UWL. Is it linked to Webdynpro, if so maintain the design as Matrix Flow Layout.

Unexpected line breaks in output of a sql query
Hi,
I have a query which looks like:
set pages 0
set feed off
set newp 0
set lines 350
select LPAD(SUBSTR(COLUMN1,1,23),23),LPAD(SUBSTR(COLUMN2,1,42),42), SUBSTR(TO_CHAR(START_TIME,'HH24:MI:SS'),1,8),SUBSTR(TO_CHAR(END_TIME,'HH24:MI:SS'),1,8)
FROM TABLE1;
When executed using SQL*Plus this query puts a line break after each column and hence I get a record on several rows on the screen.
But the last two columns are printed on the same line. I suspect the LPAD is causing some problem.
I have two databases. It works perfectly on one and not on the other.
Is there a oracle parameter due to which the result is affected?
T&R,
BRKTry this:
set pages 0 feed off newp 0 lines 350 trims on
select LPAD(SUBSTR(COLUMN1,1,23),23)
, LPAD(SUBSTR(COLUMN2,1,42),42)
, TO_CHAR(START_TIME,'HH24:MI:SS')
, TO_CHAR(END_TIME,'HH24:MI:SS')
FROM TABLE1; -
Why would white space and line breaks in sql query increase runtime
Using 11.2.0.3.0 on unix sprac server, 8 cpus 32 cores 12TB storage. We have 16 batch servers doing inserts and ~100 users doing mostly queries.
We have a wierd issue, we have a long query that takes 30 seconds to run 1st time then 10-20 secs every other time. Based on knowledge of DB we expected it to take a lot less. Then a developer reformatted it by taking removing extra white space and line breaks. all of sudden query takes 6 secs first time and 0.8 every other time. we tripled checked to ensure they are identical and that only difference is white space and line breaks. We tried it with SQLDeveloper, TOAD, SQLPLUS, from out desktops, appserver. we could reproduce it every time, with white space 10-20 secs without it 0.8 secs. Query is 200 lines long with white space 30 without it.
Why would having white space make such a dramatic difference? because the query is longer eventhough its identical? We checked parsing times, etc, no difference. Is there some network setting, oracle parameter, sqlnet setting? We spent hours looking on google and found nother

grt_buyer.buyerfamily_acronym AS buyerfamily_acronym, grt_reporting_utls_pkg.convert_gmrt_battery(grt_buyerinstance.buyerfamily_id,grt_buyer.battery) AS battery,Do you have some sort of horrific network connection between the client and the database such that it would take 8.5 seconds to transmit a few kb of SQL to the server? That seems most unlikely.
How are you determining the query plan? Are you absolutely sure that both SQL statements have the same plan_hash_value when they are actually executed (not just when you generate a query plan without executing it)? What are the differences in wait events when you execute the two?
The sql_id will change when you add or remove whitespace. There are various methods of modifying query plans that are tied to a sql_id. My wager would be that you have a profile/ outline/ etc. that is not there for the reformatted one which is causing a query plan difference. My next guess is that you have an accepted plan for the old statement, you haven't set up a process to let the plan evolve, and the reformatted statement starts with the plan that the old statement would get if you allowed the plan to evolve.

Unwanted Line Breaks in PL/SQL CODE after 'CREATE OR REPLACE' statements
Does anybody know how to keep SQL Developer from automatically editing PL/SQL code and adding line breaks after 'CREATE OR REPLACE' statements?
It keeps taking:
CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE DEVELOPER AUTHID DEFINER
And turns it into:
create or replace
package developer AUTHID DEFINER
This unwanted linebreak causes our autodeployment processes to break.

As there may be approval for some planned improvements to the SQL Formatter feature in 3.2, I logged an enhancement request for you:
Bug 13744858 - FORUM: UNWANTED LINE BREAK AFTER CREATE OR REPLACE SYNTAX

But if you have control over your auto-deployment process code, it might be quicker to enhance that to deal with CREATE OR REPLACE on the same or the preceding line. Also, note that if you edit the package DDL to put the CREATE OR REPLACE on the same line with the package name in the code editor, then immediately use Export or Save Package Spec and Body to save it to disk, then PACKAGE <name> will appear on the same line as the CREATE OR REPLACE syntax. -
Missing line breaks with Excel
Hello,
Am downloading certain into Excel using BSP. I am changing response mime type to "application/vnd.ms-excel" and am sending tab-demilited string as data.
Some of the columns should contain line break within the cell( Mean the Alt-Enter in Excel cell ). I tried using the character code 10 and also 13 for the break. But it did not work.
How do I cause a line-break in the Excel cell? Any work-arounds??
Thanks.
Srinivas.Hi Srinivas,
I think you don't have the possibility to add line breaks into a tab seperated file. You rearly had to create an excel file. Unfortenately AFAIK this is not possible in ABAP. I've done this in PHP using the <a href="http://pear.php.net/package/Spreadsheet_Excel_Writer">Spreadsheet_Excel_Writer</a>.

Applescript batch convert DOC to TXT with line breaks
Hey guys, I recently got stuck at work having to convert over 1,000 DOC files to TXT files with line breaks.
I've found online several different Applescripts that work great at converting DOC files to TXT files but I can't find one that will do the TXT files with line breaks.
If anyone has a script that can do this I would be crazy grateful.
Converting these one by one with Word is taking forever to do.
Thanks for any help you can give me.Excuse me for a moment for speaking harshly to you. You are causing yourself utterly unnecessary headaches by not being clear with us and not stopping to think, and it's high time you learned that that is an incorrect way to approach anything on a computer. Consider:
you don't know what you're doing (in the sense that you don't know what 'text with line breaks' means)
you don't know (or at least haven't explained) why this needs to be done
(therefore) you don't know if this needs to be done at all
(and yet) you are doing it anyway, in a mindlessly repetitive fashion, driving yourself batty and irritating me
At least for the time being, humans are the ones who think and computers the ones who grunt away mindlessly; try to reverse those roles and everything gets done badly and slowly. Stop, look, think, plan ahead - that's what your brain is good at if you give it a chance.
Now, as far as I can tell from poking around the web, 'text only with line breaks' means that the document is saved as a plain-text file, but with a carriage return linefeed combination (CR/LF) as a paragraph delimiter (this is a Windows format - unix uses a single linefeed, Macs might use a single carriage return or a single linefeed). I don't know why anyone would want that format - most software will convert that seamlessly (or at least can be told to convert that). Are you trying to feed this into some dinosaur of a database? At any rate, if that's what you want, this script should do it. caution, this script overwrites the original files; I suggest you make a copy of one or two files in a separate folder, and run the script on them first to check that the output works for whatever reason you're doing this:
set baseFolder to choose folder with prompt "Choose a folder of files to process"
tell application "Finder"
set fileList to (every file of baseFolder whose name extension is "txt") as alias list
end tell
repeat with thisFile in fileList
set itsText to read thisFile
if (offset of (return & linefeed) in itsText) = 0 then
-- file is not already formatted with CR/LF, so convert
set itsChunks to tid(itsText, {return, linefeed})
set itsNewText to tid(itsChunks, return & linefeed)
set fp to open for access thisFile with write permission
set eof of fp to 0
write itsNewText to fp as text
close access fp
end if
end repeat
on tid(input, delim)
-- handler for text items conversions
set {oldTID, my text item delimiters} to {my text item delimiters, delim}
if class of input is list then
set output to input as text
else
set output to text items of input
end if
set my text item delimiters to oldTID
return output

Couple of questions about preparing my parts from the score for a small string ensemble...
Got my conductor's score looking all spiffy. Now I need to extract my individual parts. I've done this a million times in the past and I always run into the same problems, so I thought it time to get some sagely advice.
1. Is there any way to "lock" line breaks so that when I create individual parts from my score that the line breaks I created for the conductor's score remain intact in my parts?
Seems that when I double-click on a particular part's staff to see just that part, my line breaks have been disregarded completely.
2. On a related note, taking Rohan's advice from another thread, I created a duplicate score style for each part that I was going to extract (never done that before). But when I selected the first duplicate score style (for preparing my violin 1 part), the score layout changed. I'm stumped...
This pic shows the first page of the conductor's score using my original Instrument Set:
The second pic shows what happened when I selected my duplicate Instrument Set. You can see how messed up it got...iS,
i didn't mean make a duplicate of the full score , i meant make an instrument set of the individual instrument. that means there is only the one instrument in the entire set. you can then format it exactly as you need it to look and print pdf. how line breaks correspond to others is a bit of a mystery, but in general it looks right when i go into each part/instrument set even though i have no faith that it will. but at least each part will have its own individual size and appears to retain its line breaks.
the workflow i have found really reliable is:
- create the instrument sets for your parts and insert any extra markings working your way through the score and pdf-ing as you go.
- you may discover errors or omissions or something that you need to return to a previous part to correct, so you can then re-pdf.
- only once you have all the parts pdf-ed, pdf the score having first deleted all multi bar rests by selecting one in an event editor and then hitting 'select similar'. this is neceassry as multi-bar rests cause display problems. hopefully with LP8 we won't have to do that.
you DON'T save that version. you revert to save after pdf-ing the conductors score. i know it's silly, but the work around at the end only takes a moment. but going about it this way will virtually guarantee everything will turn out as it should. -
Line breaks problems...
Hi!
In a Flash Interface, users can write and send messages.
Even if they use "carriage returns" in their message like,
for example:
"Hi!
How are you?
I feel fine.
Shall we have dinner tonight?
Hugs and kisses,
Jeff"
the message sent is on only one line like, for example:
"Hi!How are you?I feel fine.Shall we have dinner tonight?Hugs
and kisses,Jeff"
Any solution platform and browser independent?
Thanks in advance for your tips!you'll need to check the problem's cause. almost certainly
flash is detecting the line breaks. the problem is probably
occurring in the code that's receiving what flash sends. -
Line breaks at 72 chars in Mail.app
Hi,
Since 10.6.2 (Mail.app v4.2), Mail.app has been useless if you need to conform to standards on certain mailing-lists, since it doesn't break lines at 72 characters.
The solution has been to downgrade Mail.app to v4.1 (the one coming with 10.6.1) manually after each new Snow Leopard-release.
I'm not aware of what changes was made between v4.1 and v4.2 to break it like this, but it involves not sending 'format=flowed' (amongst other things) anymore.
This change has to some degree been discussed here; https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3040166
After upgrading to Lion, there is no way to downgrade Mail.app to v4.1 like before.
Does anyone have _any_ suggestions to a way to achieve line breaks at 72 chars using Mail.app in Lion?I have the same problem. It also happens in notes.
Now I created a note in Mail on my Macbook and had this problem: Backspacing a line moved it above the previous paragraph. Then I opened the same note on my Ipad, and I did not have the problem, I could simply backspace the same line and it was connected to the end of the previous paragraph. What I did see in my Ipad note however was that the two paragraphs had a different font (which was not visible on macbook, until I edited it on my Ipad). Somehow my macbook mail creates unsolicited separate paragraphs, which use different invisble fonts, and these paragraphs may not be merged.
The same problem probably also causes email messages that I compose on my macbook to end up at the recipient in a very different font (i.e., lines/ paragraphs are larger and/or in different font.) than what I see when composing the message. This is really annoying, because it makes you look like a complete moron who is unable to compose a properly edited message.
