Variants in Web

Gurus,
   I have created Variant in Bex but i am not able to see
   the Variant in the Web...is there a problem with the
   version (BW 3.0) or there is a work around to do it...

just include the technical name of the variant in your web template:

Please note the following: if you use multiple queries in webtemplate , you may have to use same variable name for the same field in all the queries , else it will show 2 entries in selection screen.

Did you ever resolve this issue when saving a BEx WebVariant . We are facing the same in our Development system, while it works OK in QA and Production.

Is this possible to create variant or select the variant when we execute the web templates?
instead of entering the values i need to select the variant and execute the template!

Here ,manually we need to add the name of the variant !
Yes but now my condition is not like this and more than 20 plants are there and i need to create 20 variants.
The key user cannot remember all variant names ,so how to acheive this?
Also in the link that u had given u have given the way to add the variant at the end of the URL. But i hope that will not help me!

How to sort selectionv variants in web applications?

Hi,
we have a web application comprising several queries into a dashboard built with WAD.
The web application has to be started using a selection screen. Several selection variants have been setup, but they are sorted in a strange way.
Is there a setting to sort the variants in a certain way?

At the moment I don't think that there is a way to sort the variants. The sort order is according to the ID in table RSRPARAMETRIZA.

Variants of web templates in the portal

Hello,
We launch our BI web templates via iViews in the portal. Some users
have saved their personal variants in the portal, but after the version
of the web template has changed, they do not access their variants any
more.
Are the variants in the portal linked to the version of the web
template ? How is it possible to retrieve the variants ?

Logon to the BI system and go to transaction SE37 and execute RSBB_URL_PREFIX_GET to get the portnumber, try applying this and test your iview again.
If this does not resolve the issue I suggest you to refer to SAP Note 937697 - Usage of SAP NetWeaver BI Diagnostics & Support Desk Tool, it is a pretty simple tool and helps in resolving most issues with regards to BI Portal integration.

Extracting image variants for web index from MDM via Java API

Hi There, we are currently using an open source search engine to crawl the MDM database and build indexes for our webstores nightly. In this process, we have an image extraction method using the MDM java API's. Can someone please tell me how to call an image variant into this process rather than the 'original image' stored in MDM? I've created a variant that will optimise for web conditions and we need to call this one into the webstore, not the originals that are sometimes huuuuge...

Retrieving Image Variants
To retrieve binary data for image variants carry out these steps:
       1.      Retrieve all image variants using the RetrieveImageVariantsCommand class.
       2.      Retrieve the Image BLOB whose variants you want to get, (see Retrieving BLOB Records above).
       3.      Retrieve the BLOB for the specific image variant using the RetrieveBlobCommand.

My question relates to Variants created on the web templates. Is there a way to copy variants from one web template to another, if the templates are based off of the same query? I can see that the web template variants are in SE11 table RSRPARAMETRIZA. But I am not able to see a way to copy them from one template to another. Any thoughts? Thanks!

How to create Variants in Web Dynpro using ABAP

Can anyone please tell how to create and save variants in a Web DynPro application using ABAP.
Also state the steps involved in saving and loading the variants.

For calender control, there is Date Navigator under "complex tab". You can just click and drag it and provide calender control.
One more easy way is to create a input field. In the context, create a node and attribute of type "D"(which means DATE). And bind the context to your input field under "values" in property window. While running the program, you will see an calender attached to lt on the input field.

Information broadcasting: unable to fill variant in precalculation tab

Hi all,
I have been trying to broadcast a query in BEX BROADCASTER but when i try to fill in the variant in the general precalculation tab i am not able to create a new variant as it always takes me to web analyser screen and no option for saving the settings.
What i did is created variants in web analyzer as well as bex analyser but still in vain.
But the broadcasting is running if i go through analyser first then click on send and do the settings in the INFORMATION BROADCASTING tab.
But still there is only limited option available der no bursting or pdf or XML generation is allowed.
I need inputs on this because i need to broadcast it as XML format.

Please note that not all the distribution types are available for all the objects.

For queries, you can send them either by mail or export to the enterprise portal. XML is not available for queries.

Mass / Multiple entries in Web variables

Hi experts,
i am looking for a possibility to upload mass/multiple selection entries in variables (web queries). I didn't find standard functionality like in Excel to upload variable entries via .txt file or copy from clipboard.
Does anyone know how to do it or how to enhance standard functionality?
In addition to that is it possible to save selection entries as variants in web variables?
We are currently working on SAP BW 3.5 and WAS.

Unfortunately, there is no standard functionality in BW 3.5. Both issues are adressed with NW2004s:
From SP 9 it is possible to save variants on the variable screen.
With SP12 there should be a new function to upload text files into the selection.

Query variant with exit variable on selection

Hello,
I have created a query with exit variable for Date. This date will be defauled to system date -1 using the exit code.
This variable is ready for input with default value. If user want to change the default value he can change it.
however when i save the variant for this query, the default value is not getting populated automatically. The value of this field in variant is date on which the variant is created.
Is there ay way to make sure the variant will always pick up the value from Exit

I think this option is available only from RSRT.

Variants in BEx Query.

I've created a variant on a Bex Query. When I run the query in the browser, I see a complete list of all variants created by everyone in our team for that query. I really want to restrict the variants created by user to be displayed for that user. How can I do this?

first of all, u can save variants for web reports globally (for one report, visible for all users) and locally (user specific variant).
Global variant: At the selection screen u choose "Save as variant". Disable "save as user variant". There u can enter a discription and a technical name. The variant is visible for all users.
Local Variant: At the selection screen u choose "Save as variant". Enable "save as variant". Enter only the description without a technical name. The variant is only visible by the author of this variant.
The same feature is available for BEx Analyzer 7.0 on SP 16.
