Various connectivity issues

We've had sketchy wifi for years (combination of the configuration of our house and the density of wifi networks in our area)  and finally decided that what we needed to do was attach our Airport Express to the TWC modem/router with an ethernet cable and create what I gather is called a roaming network.   We have the same network name and password on both devices. Well, its a tad more complicated than that since the TWC thing has both 2,4 and 5 ghz networks...so there are multiple networks.. but the one I connect to is the 2,4 ghz one that has the same name on both devices.
We also have an HP Photosmart  7520 printer, that is (or rather was) connected to that network which we could print from. It now won't connect and the 'Wireless Network Test Results' printout says MAC filtering may be enabled and we need to enter the MAC address of the printer. It isn't enabled. I tried enabling it so I could enter that MAC address, but got the same message.  So that's one problem.
At first Mail worked fine, but now it won't download Gmail-- this started yesterday and is probably unrelated to the printer issue... but I mention it here in case it isn't. I can get Gmail fine on an iPad, phone or via the web. So it's not that my computer isn't connecting. It seems to sneak through now and then as well, but not consistently and mostly the little wheels just keep churning around....
And finally, when I try to access this forum via Chrome, I get a blank page.   I can access via Safari though.
Any  helpful souls out there that can help to make this go?

Things can get mighty tricky when you try to make routers from two different manufacturers produce the same wireless network signal and work as "one" network.
In order for the AirPort Express to have a chance to work correctly with the TWC Arris router the following conditions must be met.
1) Both the Arris and the AirPort must use the exact same wireless network name and password. Pretty simple.
2) Both the Arris and AirPort must use the exact same wireless security settings. Maybe not so simple.
3) The AirPort Express is configured to "create a wireless network"......not "extend a wireless network" as you might think. Many users make this mistake.
4) The AirPort Express is configured to operate in Bridge Mode. Many users neglect this important configuration setting when they add the Express to another router.
Even when you do everything right in theory....sometimes the network just does not behave as "one".....likely because the routers are from different manufacturers.
Well, its a tad more complicated than that since the TWC thing has both 2,4 and 5 ghz networks
So too does the AirPort have both 2.4 and 5 GHz networks, so things might be yet even more complicated.
I doubt that I can help on the printer, and do not have Chrome to test, but can help with the details that I mentioned above. Get those right, and sometimes the other problems heal themselves....and sometimes not.
If you want to check some settings....I am assuming that you still have OS X (10.6.8) installed on your Mac.....please post back.
In addition, it would help if you could find out what type of wireless security the TWC Arris router is using.....since that is a critical element here.

  • Wi-Fi connection issues since securing network

    Hi all,
Hoping to get some solutions as I have tried to troubleshoot this issue with other posts and google searches. Here is my scenario :
I'm running OS Lion 10.7.5 on my MBP and have been connected to our home wi-fi for about 12 months on a connection that wasn't secured by password.
Since having some download issues and fearing that someone is connecting outside our household, we have secured our wi-fi and added a password.
Both mine and my sister's iPhones got prompted to select a network, selected the appropriate one, punched in the password and were connected with no issues. My iPad Mini, Dad's laptop and both my parents' phones all connected with no issue.
When I booted my MBP, I was prompted with needing to join a new network and upon selecting our home network was met with an immediate 'Connection timeout' response.
I try to connect manually through Network in the System Preferences and got the same 'Connection Timeout'. When I click 'Assist me' and try to connect that way, I am finally prompted to input the password, which I do correctly and I get 'Invalid Password' etc etc response ... then after about 5 seconds it connects me !!
So even though the connection timed out and I wasn't able to put a password in, manually doing it told me the password was wrong etc then I get connection like normal. If I switch my laptop off/reboot/log out/turn wi-fi off then back on, I'm back to square one and can't connect unless I follow the same tedious steps.
Fearing it was an issue with our router, we have since bought a new one, installed it and reconnected all the devices as mentioned above, however my MBP connection issue still exists.
How can I get it to connect automatically like it used to and recognize our home network with a correct password, without continually having to go through all those steps ?
I have tried to delete that entry in my preferred networks and tried to re-establish it etc. Keychain Access doesn't list my router and input password.
I'd like to be able to solve the issue asap if possible and hopefully without having to delete all of my other known networks that I connect to as I travel all over the country for work and have about 6-8 routers I connect to, depending on what city/office I'm in.
Any assistance would be appreciated !

Some users with various Wi-Fi connection problems have reported that they were given the following instructions by Apple Support, sometimes with success. I can't vouch for this procedure myself. After completing the procedure, you'll have to recreate all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make sure you know how to do that before you begin. Taking screenshots of the preference pane may be helpful.
    Step 1
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 2
    Reset the System Management Controller

  • WAP610N connectivity issues

I have installed 4 of these units in a commercial premises offering free wifi. Since the day they were installed (5Months ago) we had connectivity issues with mobile devices. This was somewhat resolved in the latest FW 1.0.04 but we are still having random disconnections on the units every 2 - 4 days and have to reboot the units.
Lately the units have become unresponsive and reset themselves back to factory settings.
What we have done so far:
Changed router models - No change
Changed from Static IPs & DHCP - No change
Turned on isolation - No change
Performed a wifi analysis to pick the best channel for each unit - Slight signal gain but still disconnects
Changed to 20Mhz only (And all other variations) - No change
I think I am left with no option but to return these for some other brand. Any suggestions are really appreciated. I'm really regretting buying these units at the minute...

Thanks again for the quick response.
I have tried every method of security available and these various levels have led to additional problems. While using WEP - devices got the message incorrect password after a day or so and while using any other there were a lot of random disconnects as well as some mobile devices simply being refused connection.
Using the units unsecured was by far the most successful but still gave the problems described in my original post.
I'm still open to any suggestions though!
    Thanks

  • Bad corporate wifi connection issues

    Hi,
I've experienced a corporate wifi connection issue.
Having the issue on two z3compacts (latest kitkat build) and also with a Z3 (also latest kitkat build).
    connection details:
    EAP-Method: PEAP
    Phase 2-Auth: MSCHAPV2
    CA-Certs: no
    Identity: yes
    Password: yes
Issue is the following if you roaming between APs it happens the the smartphones jumps to a next AP with better signal but it is not possible to connect to the wifi.
    There are two workarounds:
    1. re-enter the password for the connection again
    2. turn on airplane mode and turn it off again
    The state is very annoying.
We've tested various Samsung and Nexus smartphones and we couldn't experienced that issue.
Any of you experienced the same?
    Br,
    Michael

    Hi Phy,
    thanks for that hint!
Can't believe anymore that it is a network component issue...because,
We have 500 android devices integrated (LG, Samsung, Nexus) and also nearly 4300 iPhones (4s, 5c, 5s and 6 (IOS7-8))
Besides them three xperia Z3 devices for testing purpose.
We only experienced this issue with the xperia devices.
Actually we're observing this issue over a month now.
We checked also the wifi controler logs and we saw that the xperia devices quit connections and connections tries by themselves.

  • Zen touch connection issues with Creative softw

I?ve updated my Zen touch to the play for sure drivers and since I?ve done this the creative software does not recognise when the ZT is connected (Nomad explorer). However windows media player and HMV digital do recognise the connection and allow me to sync songs to the payer. I?ve tried loading the ?Creative Software Suite for PlaysForSure-enabled Creative Zen Touch Players? update, but this doesn?t work as it won?t recognise my ZT as connected during the installation! I?m running WMP and IE7 on my computer and have already tried the registry change mentioned to solve connection issues but this doesn?t help either.
Any suggestions or anyone else having this issue?
    Thanks

Sounds like an incompatibility with the card, which is surprising as NEC cards are usually no problem. There are various things to try as mentioned in the FAQ post (search on "connection problems") but I think you need to focus on making sure you have the latest drivers for the card, as well as the player itself.

  • Wifi Connectivity Issues, how to Downgrade

I am using a 13 inch macbook late 2007 model running snow leopard 10.6.4 My problem is that after waking my macbook from sleep my wifi errors and has the connection timed out or the invalid password when it is correct. My roommates are able to connect to the router perfectly fine and My airport can connect to my home network as well as the campus network. I have tried the various fixes including trashing the system config folder, adding a new location, deleting locations, adding and removing airport, adding and removing preferred network locations, repairing disk permissions. Im sick and tired of trying to find a work around to this problem. I have time machine enabled but I don't want to roll my computer back an entire year just to fix wifi connectivity issues. Is there a way to downgrade without losing my applications, and personal files. No i didn't make a back up before install, I just want a to downgrade to 10.6.3 which I never had connectivity issues, is this possible?

It is managed by apple but no direct responses are from apple, yes i have had problems in the past with arrogance and users showing no respect for "noobs". The genius bar is located 2 hours away and when I do have access im skeptical to leave my macbook with them because i NEED it for school work. But my intentions weren't to be negative but to shed light on a problem. I was being sincere and sometimes the truth is negative; there is most certainly a need because without bringing attention to problems how is anything going to get solved or changed? Also if you reread what i posted it states "Finally a forum where members AREN'T arrogant", meaning that I WASN'T referring to this forum.

  • Connectivity issues caused by coax, will Verizon install ethernet line to the second floor?

Lately i've been having connectivity issues(bad lag, pages stop loading) and the problem appears to be the coax line that is running between my ONT(in the garage) and office(two floors up) .  How do i know it's the coax? Well, when the router is in the office and  I ping yahoo.com, i get an average of 120ms, ~10% packet loss. Then I moved the actiontec router to a 3 foot cable directly attached to my ONT and I get 20ms, zero packet loss. Unless im missing something it seems like there is a problem with the lines in my house and their ability to do internet over coax. My FIOS TV service works fine. I have tested all my other coax lines and they all have the same issue except for the one in the living room, however i cant use that line because wireless doesn't reach the office. So the only solution im seeing is to run an ethernet line from the ONT directly to the office. The distance is at most 75ft so signaling should not be an issue. Will Verizon install the ethernet line for me or will I have to do it myself? I feel like im not getting proper service and Verizon should be responsible for fixing it. If anyone here has other suggestions to remedy my problem please let me know. Thx guys!

I can't answer the question about Verizon running Cat5 for you.  I'm sure someone else here will have that answer.  But some thoughts about the problem you're seeing.
Is the coax from the garage to your office reasonably new and in good shape?
Have you tried changing the connectors at both ends?
How are splitters configured?  I would think you should have the router on one 3.5 dB leg of the first splitter and the rest of the house off any other splits.  And a splitter could be bad.  You could try getting a coax "barrel" from Radio Shack and, as a test, bypassing any splitter in between the ONT and the router in your office.
Is the run from the garage to the router about the same as the run to the living room?  I'm wondering if the router itself might be defective and require more signal than it should.
FWIW, it sounds like I have a similar setup to yours and it just works.  I know some prefer Cat5 ONT-router for various reason but I like the Verizon default configuration for it's simplicity and for the fact that Verizon will support it if support is needed.   I wonder what tech support would say about your situation if you could get past tier 1 script reading.
    Good luck.
    P.S.
The more I think about it the more I suspect a splitter is your problem.  I say that because if I understand you correctly, you get the same results at the end of every piece of coax except in the living room.  Right?  That leads me to think the connection to the ONT is getting screwed up somewhere that it's being split.  FWIW.
    edit & P.P.S.
This is the "barrel" I had in mind to bypass any splitters for troubleshooting purposes:

  • HP PhotoSmart 7510 suddenly has severe connectivity issues

I have a HP PhotoSmart 7510 printer since about 2 months. Initial setup worked like a charm and the printer has been working pretty much perfectly for the last 2 months. Wireless printing, scanning and internet access on the printer (e.g. for Facebook photos) all worked. Just from time to time i would get the occasional (mildly annoying) message on my computer saying "scan to computer is currently unavailable" but it usually worked itself out and whenever I needed it to work, it did work.
But since a few days ago, it has some severe connectivity issues. I didn't change any settings on the printer, router or computer - the issues just started appearing by themselves. I startet getting much more frequent messages on my computer saying "scan to computer is currently unavailable". I noticed I couldn't print anymore, and restarting computer, printer and/or router didn't help at all. The only thing so far i managed to print wirelessly since the problems started were the first 5 pixel rows of an image I tried to print, the rest didn't transmit.
It seems the printer still connects to the WLAN but printing and scanning no longer work, and whenever I try to access a web service on the printer (like Facebook) it says it has no internet connection, even though the WLAN light is lit up (not blinking) and all the wireless status reports say "congratulations, no problems found" and display IPs etc. just like normal.
I looked at the threads "PhotoSmart 7510 connects to router, but not to the web.", "Wireless printer (HP Photosmart 7510) not connecting to network" and "Photosmart 7510 won't connect to Web Services" but they weren't a big help. Activating EWS didn't work because even though the printer showed its IP address to be 192.168.1.3, when I entered this in my web browser it didn't find the printers configuration page.
I tried the following steps from one of the threads:
    1. Restore the Network defaults
    2. Unplug the printers power cord while it is still on. Leave it unplugged and walk to the router.
    3. While the router is still on, unplug the power cord from the router, leave it unplugged for 30 seconds, then reconnect the power cord to the router. Once plugged back in the router should power on automatically.
    4. Plug the power cord back into the printer. Once plugged back in the printer should power on automatically.
    5. Run the Wireless Setup Wizard to reconnect the printer to your wireless network.
    6. Try enabling Web Services.
I followed these steps exactly. Interestingly, even though I had done step 1 and restored the network settings to factory defaults, after turning back on, the printer somehow still had its old settings saved and reconnected to the network.
It seemed to have fixed the problem, the printer finally had internet access again (Facebook app showed my photos) and scan to computer found my PC. But after just about 3 minutes, the printer had lost its internet connectivity again. When opening the Facebook app, it displayed the same error message it did before. And printing no longer worked as well.
So, what is wrong with this printer?! It has the newest software update by the way (I checked during the 3 minutes it had internet access.) My computer is a HP Windows 7 x64 machine (EliteBook 6930p) and the router I'm using is a Netgear WNDR3700.
I specifically bought this printer for my studies at university. In one week i have my exams and in order to study I REALLY need to be able to print some of my course materials! So any help as quickly as possible would be greatly appreciated. Or do you think this is a case for a warranty replacement, considering the printer's really strange and error-prone behavior?
    Thanks a lot!

I can assure you that it is not a router issue.  It appears to me that it is a driver compatibility with Windows OS.  After trying to get to the bottom of this since my Photosmart 7525 was new and reading just about every forum and blog, I have come to the conclusion that the issue must be related to the HP driver itself.
The issue does not seem to affect any Mac systems, and from one forum someone was able to fix it by downloading new drivers compatible with 64-bit systems (which seem to not be affected by the glitch).  But that leaves us 32-bit people stuck with the current driver which does not work.
The printer is connected with good signal to the wireless router (no matter who's router it is and what configuration is made).  The printer can be pinged from the router and any computer on the network which is not currently being affected by this issue.  However, the affected computer fails pings by either request timed out, or destination host unreachable.  Pings are successful from the affected computer to any other device on the network.  The only way to recover (at least for a few days) is to reboot the affected computer.
Also, from the display on the 7525, the network tests pass without issue.  I can also download and print content from the internet with no issues.
Please do a quick google search of this issue and you will see several THOUSAND entries of people with the same request.  This is a serious issue that people are having and everything is pointing to an HP problem (not routers, improper installation of software or drivers, etc...).  I agree with several other customers that HP should be on the hook for this fix.  I will give it another couple weeks, then back to the store for a reliable unit from another competitor (Canon, Lexmark, etc..)
Thank you in advance for escalating this issue to product engineering,
    S. Hunn

  • Connection doctor and connection issues

I have nothing blocking  my internet connection, however mail is a nightmare for me. I continually receive connection issues via the connection doctor for imaps, pops, and icloud.
Are my settings wrong? I have checked with each of the settings and they are set per instructions provided. Some are google, some yahoo, icloud, etc.
This is really annoying and I could really use some help.
Here is a typical message: Could not connect to this Google IMAP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account preferences. Also verify that the server supports SSL. If it does not, deselect the 'Use SSL" checkbox in the Advanced tab of Account Preference"
I have done all of this and am still having troubles.
I am also receiving SMTP connection issues - "Trying to log into this SMTP account failed. Verufy that the username and password are correct."
I have checked and all are correct. Even more confusing, these issues are not present all the time - however I have not changed anything between when times are good and bad.
Sigh - I hope someone has an idea to help me out.
Thanks in advance for your time and thoughts.

  • Excel ODBC Connection Issues

I'm having some issues importing external data from an Oracle 9i database.
    Here is what is happening:
I am initially able to import data from the table I want to into Excel.
I do this through "Data -> Import External Data -> New Database Query" where I have my .ORA data source. I'm able to log in using my user and password and import the table. My problems come after I import this first set of data.
If I try to "Edit Query…" I get an error box that says "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed".
If I try to "Refresh Data" I get two error boxes. The first is just: "[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]" and the next says: "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed". It then prompts me for the User name and password of the DB I'm connecting and after I enter the information, I get the same two error messages.
Also, if I attempt to establish another connection following the "Data -> Import External Data…" steps I run into a different problem. Upon entering the information for the User Name and password prompt I get two error messages. One says "!" and the next box says "Couldn't read this file". Once I click "OK" in those boxes, the Microsoft Query window automatically opens with nothing in it.
I can't seem to figure out why I can initially pull down data and then cannot succeed afterwards. I'm unable to connect to the DB I have through Excel until I completely closed all Microsoft Excel instances.
I also use this data source in Microsoft Access without any problems.
    My Excel version is 2003.
I'm using Oracle Drivers I'm using are from an "Instant Client" package.
Any thoughts why I'm having these connections issues?
    Thanks in advance.

    This issue is closed.
    The solution was:
"Data -> Import External Data -> Import Data"
Select "New Source" and select the "Oracle" data source and filled in the appropriate information. This was similar to the database query but it actually works.

  • My brand new mac pro always had Internet connection issues at school. WHY is that? I see the school's Internet working perfectly fine on other PC's, but there is never a day where my mac doesn't have Internet connection issues at school. How do I fix it?

I got my mac pro in the middle of August. School started the week after. Internet was working perfectly fine at home. But at school, I never had a good connection. Sometimes on the good days I get a connection when I'm sitting at the exact spot in class I always sit at. It's ridiculous and it's frustrating. I invested my money into this laptop and I'm beginning to regret it. I thought it was the school's Internet, but I don't see Internet issues with other PC users. It's most frustrating on registration days and I'm trying to register for my classes before it gets taken, but again... Internet connection issues. It's random. Majority of the time, it doesn't work at all. I've done Network Diagnosis and turning WiFi off then turning it on again. I've done everything I could. I put my money on this laptop and it was a lot of money. I could have bought an 800 dollars laptop and I would have Internet connection anywhere on campus. So, I don't want to continue everyday to regret on buying this laptop every time I try to connect to the Internet at school or Starbucks or anywhere else. How do I fix this? What's the problem ?
At school, I heard this guy had a problem with Internet connections too and he owned a new mac book pro. He said something like Apple messed up on something, but he fixed it. If I knew mac book pro's had these issues I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. It's freezing on me every other day. It's ridiculous. But what concerns me the most is the Internet connection. So someone please tell me what can I do next to prevent the problem? Am I doing something wrong maybe?

    Hi Kevin,
I'm using an XLR input mic which is connected to the phantom power enabled XLR mic socket on a USB M-Audio M-Track. The M-Track is connected by USB to the Mac Pro - so effectively I've got an M-Audio USB soundcard with a mic input.  I've also tried a microphone that is a straight XLR to USB cable (guessing with some soundcard chip buried in the usb plug) but that also yields the same effect of bad latency, intermittent quality, stuttering and repeating and echoing (without the speakers on during record so its not feedback).
The mic works absolutely fine with other recording applications I have on the mac at the moment - albeit non-adobe ones (tested it on the EasyAudioRecorder - and it lives up to its name. it's easy)
I will try with Audition and report back, but sitting here right now I can imagine it would work fine with audition too - it just seems to be the way premiere is set up for recording into the timeline is a bit sketchy.  I'm willing to accept it might well be a quirk with the new Mac Pro trashcan - I'm not weighting all the woes on premiere.
Any thoughts or am I out of luck to sit with my fingers crossed for a fix in the next round of updates?
    Nathan.

  • Connection issues with Safari 3

I'm having some connection issues with Safari 3.
When I connect wirelessly, Safari won't load any web pages. I go and use Firefox and everything is just peachy.
I've reset Safari, emptied the cache and whatnot. I went in and checked the permissions, everything checks out.
When I connect with Ethernet, there's nothing wrong, which is my dilemma.
    Help would be greatly appreciated.

There are a number of posts in the Leopard forum from people with direct experience with upgrading from Panther to Leopard. Here is a relevant thread from there that should reassure you.:

Your system should be fine for Leopard, but you will probably need a current version of Photoshop if you don't already have it. See this download:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/products/pdfs/leopardsupport.pdf
Also, Leopard doesn't run Classic (OS 9) apps.
One caveat - first make a bootable backup "clone" of your present system onto an external firewire drive so you can recover if anything goes wrong. You can use the "Restore" tab of Disk Utility to make such a clone, and there are also Panther-compatible versions of Carbon Copy Cloner (v 2.3) and SuperDuper (v 2.1.4), both excellent for this.
It's even possible to a create second Panther clone on a different external volume to create a "dual-boot" system, using that volume to continue to run old applications that you can't run with Leopard.

  • Connection issues with EA4500

I had bad connection issues with my mobile device, so i pressed reset on my EA4500 router, and now when i connect to my network, it gives my limited connection even though i have 5 bars of signal. Not sure what to do now...

Resetting the router will erase all the settings you configured on the router since the initial setup. You manually configure the router's wireless settings so your wireless devices can have internet access again.

Make sure to use a computer that is hardwired via Ethernet cable to the router.
