Vehicle License Plate Detector

Hie. I am currently trying to locate the license plate of a vehicle in any image. By locating this feature i would be able to progress further to read the characters on the license plate. I have succeeded in one method which uses the Color Location VI. However this could be developed further into a more robust system as the success rate is about 10 out of 18 images. This is due to the different environments and reflection of the plate.I have read through some conference papers in which they suggested to use edge detection technique whereby the two parallel lines of the plates will be detected. I am eager to know whether this could be done in LabVIEW or are there any other possible techniques to locate the position of the license plate so that it could be translated into the ROI.

Hey z3n,
You will be able to use the edge detection technique in LabVIEW to detect parallel lines, such as the ones on the edges of a license plate. I am assuming that your images will be different for different cars with multiple styles of license plates. Therefore, you might have to use, not only the edge detection method, but even some other techniques that come with the NI Vision software that you can get with the Vision Development Module. Some other possible techniques that you can try are the Pattern Matching functionality, the Shape Matching, and even some of the Color Matching or Color Pattern Matching functions. All of these functions are accessible in LabVIEW by having the NI Vision Software. You can learn more about the Vision Development Module by going to www.ni.com/vision. Also, you can request an Evaluation Version of the Vision software to try out for 30 days. You can request this online at the NI Vision Development Module page.
I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, and have a great day.
Regards,
DJ L.

  • How to mask a license plate and thus start license plate recognition.

I am trying to develop a license plate recognition system using Labview/vision assistant. Any tech help, example code or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers Sgt F.
    Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers

    Hi Sgt F.
The difficulty of this task is going to vary depending on the consistency of the images you will be analyzing.
    For instance:
Where will the camera be located relative to the vehicle?
Will the angle of the vehicle be consistent?
What portion of the entire image will be filled by the license plate?
Will the camera be located indoors with constant lighting, or will it be required to work outside 24 / 7?
Will the type of vehicle (and position of license plate) be consistent or are you aiming for the system to work on everything from motor bikes to HGV?
My suggestion would be to obtain as many example images as possible.  If you can obtain a range of images the system will have to work with it will allow you to build up the best possible system.  If you could post up an example image and answer the above questions it will be easier to offer you more specific advice.
    Thanks,
    John

  • Report Template with WWI: Waste Transporter: License Plate

    Hi all,
I am trying to create a WWI document for Disposal Document.
I want to introduce the License Plate. I suppose that i have to introduce it in some waste transporter field , but i dont find it.
Can anyone help me? thank you very much. Marí

    Thanks keshav,
I will try to explain it to you:
I need to print in my out put doc the licence plate.
Actually i can do it and it appears correctly in my output doc, but before, in the disposal document (WAM02), i have to introduce it manually (in the license plate field, that is in the waste transporter worksheet).
I think that this field (WAM02) is inherance from the waste transporter (WAA19) like other fields like: name, Number Assigned by Authority for Partner, etc...
so, i have to introduce the licence plate in some field of the transporter, but i do not know where is it.
    Best regards. María.

  • How do i deblur a license plate

how do i deblur a license plate

    Hi there -
It's extremeley difficult to reverse a blur, expecially one that intentionally hides something like a license plate.
Most tutorials that I found online deal with sharpening slightly blurred photos using the smart sharpen filter, which you can access by going to Filter > Sharpen > Smart Sharpen. When I tried using this method on an extremely blurred photo, I got very sub-par results. It might be worth a try, but not necessarily a perfect solution.
Your issue is probably better suited for the general Photoshop forum. The folks over there have many years of experience with Photoshop and may have a solution for you. You can find the forum here: http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop/general

  • Apply effect to an area of the video - eg, blur a license plate

    Hello,
Is it possible to apply an effect to an area on the screen? Eg blur a license plate or someone's face?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Yes it's possible to apply any effect on area of a clip only. Simply duplicate the footage in timeline, apply the filter and use a 4 or 8 point garbage matte to isolate the desired portion.
For blur/witness protection, there are many free plugins on the WEB that apply witness protection/blur on the clip like Andy's region blur:

  • How to Blur License Plate Tags in Video?

I video of my car at the local race track that I'm cutting up for a project and would like to blur out my license plate tag. In some parts, my car is centered in the video and in others, it's moving around in the frame. How can I go about doing this in Premiere Pro CS3? I'm running on Windows, if it matters. I tried searching and couldn't come up with anything. It's been a while since I've used Premiere so be easy on me. Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Trying to make out this license plate

I have been trying to make out a license plate for some time now.  It from cctv footage taken at night and I am wondering if there are any plugins or suggestions of how to go about it.  I would appreciate any suggestions.  Thank you.  I realize there is probably no way to make out the numbers but worth a try.

Now, if you could only get your hands on a copy of Photoshop CSI:
I think that Noel might be the only person, outside of TV, who has a copy...
Good luck, and I have been exactly where you are. In my case, I had daylight images, and the community's security camera got a good shot of the license plate. That part, plus my video, all went well. The one thing that was missing was a 100% positive ID of the driver. The community added two more cameras at the gate, to record both the driver's face, plus any front-seat passenger's face. However, that was too late in my case.
Hope that you can extract that data,
    Hunt

  • Get cars info by their license plate

Hi, I urgently need a code to get car info by writing its licese plate number.
    Can someone help me?
    Thanks
    Brandon

This has nothing to do with AIR or whatever programming language/platform. Its also a violation of privacy and probably illegal to make. Only way you can make it is by having access to license plate databases and I think only police has those and won't be there to give it to you!

  • Vehicle no plate number

I am currently compiling blueprint for vehicle industry customer. I am proposing to use external no. for vehicle as it is easier to remember by users e.g. AAA 111 N.   Has anyone experience using external number for vehicle no. plate and is it feasible compared with internal running no??

    Hi,
In instances where you are creating equipment which are vehicles and therefore require storage of registration numbers and other vehicle related data, you should consider configuring a separate equipment category which has the fleet maintenance views enabled on it (table FLEET).
This provides extra tabs on the equipment master which enable the storage of various fields that relate to vehicle data, including a licence plate/registration number. You can then search for a vehicle equipment number from any equipment field using the equipment matchcode (drop down) and choosing the 'equipment by fleet identification data' option, which allows you to enter a licence plate and get the SAP equipment number. This is by far a better option than using the description or the equipment number fields.

  • Blur out license plates in shots?

I am working on a car and driver series and need to blank out license plates. I was using a color matte, matching the color of the plate in the shot and distorting it over the plate but my client wants the plates just blurred out. I can't do the same thing with a blurred matte because it doesn't blur and I can't distort a copied and blurred overlay of the same shot. Is there anything in FCP that can allow me to keyframe a blur over these plates or is it only an after effects job. Keep in mind that a simple box won't do. I have to keyframe a shape over the plates as the shot moves.
    Thanks

You can take a lookat the demo movies from CHV on the MotionTracker-collection. http://www.chv-plugins.com/movies1.html
And then download a demo plugin here: http://www.chv-plugins.com/motion.html

  • Need help clearing up an image of a front license plate from a break in at my office

I had a break in at my office and got a video of the car and front plate. Unfortunately Dropcam's quality is not great so the image is a little blurry. I'm hoping someone on this forum can help me clear it up. I've tried various filters in Photoshop but can't make it out. Please help! We've been broken into twice and this guy just came back for a third time. If you want the video PM me.

Well, this is about as good as I could get it. I "upsized" by 400%, then used smart sharpen and part of a technique used by retouchers - frequency separation.
Dot not quote me, but it could be 65FZ51E.
I am not under any obligation or liability for this.
    Good luck!

  • Can you help me read car license plates from security photos?

Can I remove blur and noises to be able to see the car's number plate in the photos?
Dear members,  I recently got photos captured from a surveillance camera in order to read the number plate of the car in the video.  I'm an amateur so I need your help.  What can I do to read the number plate in the picture?

I just had a thought, and its fairly inexpensive.
Go to a hunting store and purchase a trail camera. Stills (3 MP +) are taken using a motion sensor with flash and some can be night vision using IR lighting. They offer video up to HD in quality. Pricing can be below $100 US. But with features also goes the price.
So these could take the normal video when motion occurs, and take a nice bright sharp high res still. Problem with a flash though is not to have them distract drivers on the road.
    Anyway , just a thought...
