Verify if  db or grid infrastructure is installed by oracle or root

As topic, how can I know that if one used oracle or root user to install the installer??
may anyone have any good verification test to do it?
thanks.

For any Oracle installation, the user has to follow preinstallation requirements...
Here is the link for Oracle Database Preinstallation Requirements
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24321/pre_install.htm#BABFDGHJ
Please compare preinstallation requirements with your envirnment then you will come to know weather the previous install is correct or not.

  • Disks don't show --- Solaris 10, Grid Infrastructure 11gR2 Install

I am installing 11gR2 grid infrastructure on a standalone server. It is SPARC Solaris 10. Followed the documentation for preparing disk partitions for ASM. But after launching runInstaller, at step of "Create ASM disk group", no disk shows up. Therefore disk group cannot be created. And the installation cannot continue. Tried ORCL:* for Change Discovery Path. It did not work.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi.
do you on a step at the installation of the ASM or is the ASM Instance installed and ready to use ?
Check the asm_diskstring parameter in the pfile if the ASM can discover the drives correctly .
Are you create a partition our ASM drives ?.

  • Grid contro 10g installing on oracle enterproise linux 64 bit

some package needed installed for grid control that there is not on my source:
    xscreensaver
    openmotif21 ->i have "openmotif22"
from where could i download these package for OEL(oracle enterprise linux)?
is there any where in oracle website?

    Hi;
I'm having problems installing Oracle 11i on Red Hat Linux 64. I understand that it is not supported, however I need to go through the exercise of implementing OATM and then upgrade to 12. You mean oracle database 11g or you mean oracle e-business suite 11i? I am little confused
If you mention oracle database 11g than check below
What is exact linux version. Oracle 11gr2 certified wiht linux64. Please check:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/index.html
I've started the install and I continue to hit this problem.
Any advise on how to get around this issue. Oracle Support insist on using 32bit. I do have a co-worker that has been able to install it on Red Hat 64bit.
    Step 1 of 5
    /DAT01/ebs/DataTop/visdb/9.2.0/temp/VIS_rac1/adrun9i.sh
    Completed unzip 67 of 108
with 62% completeIf you mention Oracle E-Busines suite than you can not install apps tier on 64 bit which is not supported.

  • Install a grid infrastructure for a cluster for single node Windows Server

    Hello,
Can you suggest me how to install a Oracle Single Node RAC 11g on a Windows Server 2008 x64 bits? It's for testing purposes and I don't need two nodes. I know that Linux is better, but my company only uses Windows servers. Our former consultant was able to do it, but didn't tell us how to and that server was lost.
I know that we have to install first Grid Infrastructure. Running the "Oracle Grid Infrastructure" installer, I could successfully install a "Grid Infrastructure for a Standalone Server". But that grid is not for a RAC database. When trying to install the Database software, it allowed to me to only install "Single instance database", not "Real Application Cluster database installation".
Running the "Oracle Grid Infrastructure" installer, I tried to select option:
"Install and Configure Grid Infrastructure for a Cluster" -> Typical Installation:
    SCAN Name: SRVORAC-cluster
    Validating SCAN information
INS-40922 Invalid SCAN Name - unresolvable to IP address.
Is it possible to install a grid infrastructure for a cluster for a single-node or one-node Windows Server ?

    HI,
You probably have misconception about Single node RAC. This feature does not need that you have only one physical machine in a RAC, it actually means that in a RAC environment (2 or more nodes), you can run your database on only one node(single instance) and then later you can move this single instance to any other node of the RAC (so that you can do some patching on this node making your database available all the time). This also has some other benefits, see bellow.

  • Install Grid Infrastructure

Try to install Grid Infrastructure (ASM) 11gR2 on SUSE Linux 11. Installation went through well untill the very last steps. The message indicated:
Configure Oracle Grid Infrastructure for Standalone Server   -- failed
*Automatic Storage Management Configuration Assistant failed.   --failed.*
    What could be the solution?

The log does state: Successfully configured Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a Standalone Server
Then it moves on to configure 'Automatic Storage Management Configuration Assistant'
    There it says:
Starting 'Automatic Storage Management Configuration Assistant'
Error while detecting Oracle Grid Infrastructure. ASMCA needs Oracle Grid Infrastructure to configure ASM.
It sounds like that Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a Standalone Server was indeed successfully configured. However, for some reason the ASMCA could not find it.
    Next, I did the following:
    . oraenv
    ORACLE_SID = [oracle] ? +ASM
    ORACLE_HOME ...
    asmca
    The ASMCA GUI windows opened.
After I enter the required info, then click on Create ASM button, this is what it displyed:
Oracle Grid Infrastructure is not configured properly. ASMCA needs Oracle Grid Infrastructure to configure ASM.
    What could be wrong?

  • Command return code of 255 (65280) during Grid Infrastructure Installation

I am trying to create a 2-node RAC 11gR2. I am using OEL 5 Update 4. I am using NFS as shared storage. The time on both node is same. Both nodes have 4GB RAM each. Following is my IP settings from /etc/hosts on both nodes:
    [oracle@vis ~]$ cat /etc/hosts

  • Grid Infrastructure installable for Oracle Restart only (No ASM)?

    Hello,
Can Oracle Grid Infrastructure be installed for its Oracle Restart functionality only? i.e., No ASM,; this box uses local RAID 5 filesystems only.
This is a standalone 32-bit RHEL 5 system with Oracle Database 10gR2 already installed that I intend to upgrade to 11gR2. Just experimenting with installing Grid Infrastructure for only its restart capability. There isn't anything out there I've found that addresses this other than the Oracle doc stating that the Infrastructure must be installed if I want to use ASM or Oracle Restart.
I'm currently in the installer in a Software Only installation waiting for my SysAdmin to run the root.sh script, but in looking at this script, it looks like it might try to do things with CRS, voting files and the like, which do not exist.
    Thank you!
    -Jon

    Hi Erik,
Can Oracle Grid Infrastructure be installed for its Oracle Restart functionality only? Yes ... you can do that installing Software Only
I'm currently in the installer in a Software Only installation waiting for my SysAdmin to run the root.sh script, but in looking at this script, it looks like it might try to do things with CRS, voting files and the like, which do not exist.Don't worry about that ... at the end of the execution of the root.sh script will report a proceedings to configure only Oracle Restart.
Only this resource "ora.evmd" will appear online.

    Levi Pereira

  • Grid infrastructure software-only mode

    Hi all,
What are the differences between those different installation mode for the Grid infrastructure ?
Install and configure grid for a cluster.
Install and configure grid infrastructure for standalone software
    Install grid infrastructure software only.
    Thanks

Install and configure grid for a cluster. This is to install the software and configure (run the configuration assistants) to support Oracle Cluster (RAC)
Install and configure grid infrastructure for standalone softwareThis is to install the software and configure (run the configuration assistants) to support Oracle Restart (non-RAC)
Install grid infrastructure software only. This is to install the software but not configure (not run the configuration assistants)

  • What happens after root.sh - grid infrastructure installation

    Hi,
I'm trying to install 11.2.0.2 grid infrastructure.
I got ok until root.sh, during root.sh I got some error on the asm disks for the ocr - I think it's a permissions issue.
Anyway - sysadmin fixed it and I know I now need to deconfigure root.sh -force and then run it root.sh again.
however - sysadmin also reboot my server so - the installer is GONE.
My question is - let say I get the root.sh run smothly, what is the installer doing after I press ok on the root.sh screen (which I now of course don't have...)
can this be run in some script as well?
    Thanks!

just to close this thread - the answer I gor from oracle support was:
    Hello,
The OUI will execute cluvfy after root.sh is acknowledge to be run successfully. You can manually execute cluvfy from grid_home with -post option to validate the installation.
check also with commands that all resources are online:
    crsctl stat res -init
    crsctl stat res -t
    Thanks and regards,

  • ASMCA needs Oracle Grid Infrastructure to configure ASM

    Hi,
I am trying to install ASM 11gR2 on RHEL5. I am using VMWare Workstation for this.
I have already installed Oracle database software and Grid Infrastructure on this machine. While installing Grid Infrastructure, I chose install Grid Infrastructure software only.
Once this was successfull I am trying to create ASM instance using asmca.
Regarding the disks, I am using raw devices. I created a virtual disk which I have partitioned but haven't formatted it. Done this to create raw device
    [root@localhost sysconfig]# /bin/raw /dev/raw/raw1 /dev/sdb
    /dev/raw/raw1: bound to major 8, minor 16
    and have added
    ACTION=="add",KERNEL=="sdb",RUN+="/bin/raw /dev/raw/raw1 %N"
    to /etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rules
Then I tried creating the disk but it failed. So I did the following steps to fix it
    [root@dhcppc2 Softwares]# /etc/init.d/oracleasm createdisk VOL1 /dev/sdb
Marking disk "VOL1" as an ASM disk: [FAILED]
    [oracle@oracle11gR2 grid]$ tail -f /var/log/oracleasm
Device "/dev/sdb" is not a partition
    To fix this
    [root@localhost ~]# /usr/sbin/asmtool -C -l /dev/oracleasm -n VOL1 -s /dev/sdb -a force=yes
asmtool: Device "/dev/sdb" is not a partition
    asmtool: Continuing anyway
Now I am able to view the asmdisk through listdisks option.
Have set following environment variables before running asmca
    [oracle@oracle11gR2 ~]$ export ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/Grid
    [oracle@oracle11gR2 ~]$ export PATH=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/Grid/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/home/oracle/bin
When I am running ASMCA I am facing this error - Oralce Grid Infrastrcture is not configured properly. ASMCA needs Oracle Grid Infrastructure to configure ASM
    Any thoughts?

  • ASMCA needs Oracle Grid Infrastructure to configure ASM - 11gR2 on SLES11

    Hi,
I'm trying to install 11gR2 with ASM on a new SLES11 Server. So far i successfully installed the Database Software but struggle now when it comes to installing the Grid Infrastructure.
Partitioning and stamping the disks as ASM disks worked fine, oracleasm listdisks would give me my disknames as output.
So far so good - in the grid infrastructure installer i chose "install and configure grid infrastructure for a standalone server"
The setup was working, i executed the root.sh script without any issues - but configuring ASMCA failed with the following error:
INFO: Read: Error while detecting Oracle Grid Infrastructure. ASMCA needs Oracle Grid Infrastructure to configure ASM.
Unfortunately i couldn't find a lot about it on the internet - i'm very stuck here..
    Any ideas?
    Andrea

i used raw devices in my first attempt - but read that it's not supported anymore - so i configured them as asm disks using the oracleasm tool.
which worked.. so the disks can not be the problem
i already read amans solution before posting here - but the problem in that thread was different - the guy installed the grid infrastructure software only and then tried to manually configure it, which failed.
His solution was to delete his previous install and choose '+Install and Configure Grid Infrastructure for a standalone server+' in the installer.
I already started my installation with Install and Configure Grid Infrastructure for a standalone server ... so that's no solution either :(

  • Proper Home for Grid Infrastructure

    Hi all,
I'm planning to install Oracle 11g R2 64-bit on Linux Enterprise 5.5 to create a single instance database with ASM.
My question is: if I set ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle,
can I install Oracle Grid Infrastructure in /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/grid
and the DB software in /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1 ?
My concern is the privileges. If I create the directories like in the following:
    # as root
    mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1
    chown -R oracle:oinstall /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1
    chmod -R 775 /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1
    mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/grid
    chown -R grid:oinstall /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/grid
chmod -R 775 /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/gridIf I create the database later, the DBCA (which activates as oracle user) will try to create directories under the ORACLE_BASE (not under the ORACLE_HOME).
A solution to me is to set Grid Infrastructure home outside the ORACLE_BASE, if I am correct.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
A solution to me is to set Grid Infrastructure home outside the ORACLE_BASE, if I am correct.Correct !!

Please see topic under 2.17 For recommended methods, other methods may create problems for you for file permissions.
Following link may also help you for what you are doing. Here the person is using same oracle base for both grid and oracle homes

I have read and implemented all the settings described in DOCs ID 811271.1 , ID 810394.1 and RAC on Windows Step by Step Installation Instructions.
After many attempts with the same error Ii am trying to install in a single node (RAC1). But the error looks the same, my server is clean with no oracle.
Note: For this installation I downloaded and uncompressed the files p10404530_112030_MSWIN-x86-64_1of7.zip, p10404530_112030_MSWIN-x86-64_2of7 and p10404530_112030_MSWIN-x86-64_3of7 of the oracle site.
I do not know what to do for this installation work.
    Thanks

My recommendation would be to format the disks and install Linux.
And I say that only half-jokingly. Fail-over with Windows is never as fast or as transparent as with a *NIX O/S.
As to your specific issue ... open an SR with Oracle Support. Hardly anyone uses Windows for Oracle ... even fewer with RAC ... for the reason I gave above.
