Verizon activation failure DON"T LET THEM TELL YOU TO RESET THE ENTIRE IPAD

Bought my iPad2 in the Verizon store Friday and had some trouble getting it activated. It looked like it probably activated but I had a lot of failures getting there where it kept telling me information was invalid. But the data network wasn't working some hours later.
I called Verizon and they said the account had not been set up properly, closed the old account, and walked me through setting up new account through the iPad. About 5 hours later I got a popup on the iPad that said there was a problem with the data service and it had been deactivated. When I tried to log into the the account from the iPad's cellular data screen in settings, I got a message that said the account information on your iPad is no longer valid.
Upon further investigatio, the iPad still had the first number I had been given, not the new cellular number associated with my data plan.
Called Verizon and their tech support person told me that the only solution to clear the old number out and get the cellular data service to work was to reset the entire iPad (erase everything), set up a new account, and re-sync the device to get all my data back on. Having had a lot of trouble getting data transferred from my iPad 1st gen to this one I was very reluctant to do that.
So I tried a few things myself. First I settings : general : reset : reset network settings. No help.
Then I tried settings : general : reset : subscriber services : reprovision account. Bingo. When I went back to the cellular data screen and logged in, it synced up with my new account and the cellular data service worked.
Verizon insisted very firmly that there was no option to reset just the data plan information when clearly that is built right in to the settings, and that resetting the entire device (erasing everything) was required.
DON'T DO IT!!

This helped me.  Worked perfectly.

    This is so our guests cannot tamper or disable the device. We are already using Apple Configurator but their does not seem to be a way to lock down settings without a PIN.

    Who is the carrier the iPhone is carrier locked with?
    If the carrier has a blacklist for lost/stolen cell phones, it would be the carrier you need to contact.

  • Let me tell you a story......

    ....and from reading many posts on here many have had the same issue.
    We moved house on 31st August to a new build. I called BT in July and set up the order to connect on 1st Sept. I had 2 calls from engineers about 1) where was the house - plot no. etc and 2) Found it and it's already connected at the house so no engineer will call.
    Checked online and the order was all scheduled as planned and even said that no engineer would call. Had a letter and also email on 7th August confirming the order again with a list of the services - phone, broadband and Vision.
    We moved house and on the 1st Sept expected the phone line to start working. Nothing by mid-day. By which time I checked the order on-line again. Still said order was open, but I thought I'd call anyway to make sure. Had a gut feel something wasn't right.
    Spoke to India and was told that the order had been cancelled. Could say when and could say why. Just cancelled. I had to place a new order. Earliest appointment 14 days away! Not happy, but had no choice. Made a complaint and got £1 a day compo.
    Sat there on the 15th Sept (no engineer at the house needed - I could have told them that!) Had a PM appointment so waited until 8pm, nothing. Rang the number they'd given us and it rung, but no call received, no dialling tone and couldn't make a call out. So I raised a fault - only to be told there wasn't a fault and it was all working OK.
    Anyway after a bit of persuading got a fault raised and an engineer booked with the usual caveat of “it will cost you £128 if there isn’t a fault. In the meantime I got the builders to check the wiring inside the house and it was fine.
    Engineer has arrived today and knocked on the door to say that the line had been allocated to the wrong house and all he needed to do was switch the lines over in the exchange. Unbelievable. So phone & broadband now connected. But it doesn’t end there…..this has tipped me over the edge now.
    I connected up the Vision box, re-boot the Hub and Vision Box to get a C03 error – I expect we’ve all seen them. So I re-booted, checked on here in the ‘Help’ (using the word loosely) section, read the forums. Rang the technical help desk and 40 minutes later having spoken to 3 people was told that the BT Vision order hasn’t been completed correctly.
    Sorry for going on but this is good therapy. I’m at a total loss as to how any organisation could get some many things wrong so many times and have such inexcusable processes for getting problems resolved. We all appreciate that things do go wrong but good customer service is about how those problems are fixed.
    3 weeks after we’ve moved in we still don’t have all the services and I’ve now been told that I might get a call in 48 hours telling me what is going to happen next. I bet I don’t and that I’ll be on the phone again come Thursday or Friday. Shocking. I hate Sky and all it stands for but I really can’t put up with this for much longer. Please can someone help get this sorted out?

    I am sorry that you have run into problerms with your order.  Reading through your post it sounds like the problem with the phoneline had a knock on effect with the Vision order and caused it to fail.  Sorry about that.

  • Is it possible to create a variable that tells you which slides the user has visited?

    Hi there.
    I'm working on a project where I want a slide to show a continue button and hide 2 textboxes, but ONLY when the user has already visited 2 other slides. I can only find variables that tell you the slide the user previously visited.
    Is it possible to set up a variable that does this?
    I want to create the following advanced action:
    If the user has visited slides 62 AND 87, show image_536 and hide text_caption_243 and text_caption_242
    I don't want the action to happen if only 1 of the 2 slides have been visited - it has to happen when both have been visited.
    Hope that makes sense.

    You will need two variables, it can be booleans. I'll label them v_one and v_two with a default value of 0
    Since I don't know how the slides are formatted, do you use a Next button or are all the slide frames visited? You'll need to have an event on those two slides to trigger an action:
    Assign v_one with 1     on slide 62
    And a similar action on the other slide to toggle v_two (do not use the toggle command, if the user visits a slide twice, it would be toggled back to 0).
    You didn't specify where those text containers have to be (please, label your objects and slides)? But you'll need conditional advanced action triggered by another event somewhere:
       IF v_one is equal to 1   AND
           v_two is equal to 1
      Show text1
      Show text2

    Unfortunately your iPhone is just a paper weight. Return it to the pawn shop for a refund.
    iCloud: Find My iPhone Activation Lock in iOS 7 explains the "Buyer Beware" facts:
    When purchasing an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from someone other than Apple or an authorized Apple reseller, it is up to you to ensure that the device has been erased and is no longer linked to the previous owner’s account.
    Follow each of these steps to make sure that you can use the device you purchase:
    Turn the device on and slide to unlock.If the passcode lock screen or the home screen appears, the device has not been erased. Ask the seller to completely erase the device by going to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Do not take ownership of any used iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until it has been erased.
    Begin the device setup process.After choosing a language, choosing a country, and connecting to a network, the device will begin activation. If you are asked for the previous owner’s Apple ID and password, the device is still linked to their account. Hand the device back to the seller and ask them to enter their password. Do not take ownership of any used iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until it has been removed from the previous owner’s account.

    I had a problem with my Internet connect and I reset the device. I found later it was because my modem lost code and I had to renter it.     This is an iPad user to user forum, so you are not addressing Apple. Don't post your email address. Apple will remove.
    You can redownload any missing apps -free or paid - without charge.
    A Reset does not cause app deletion. I suspect you did a Restore.

    Try using recovery mode. You want to use the computer that you use for syncing your iPad so that you can restore from a backup at the end of the process.

    If you have an iCloud backup, you can restore from that as well. If you have no backups, you will end up losing everything on the iPad and will have to start all over again.

  • Don't let manufactures lock you out of BIOS modding! Let them know!

    I heard about some draft or proposal about how BIOSes are vulnerable to local attacks, making the computer compromised.
     I haven't read all of the huge PDF file yet but I know that closing down BIOSes on devices so that you can't flash your own BIOS on your x86 or video card, HDD/SDD/optical/mobile device hinders innovation, freedom of  choice, creativity and learning (say if you want to learn about BIOS modding). You might not be able to even read off the BIOS, not sure.
    Imagine having to update the BIOS remotely by linking with a server somehow and with encryption.
    Hopefully if this does pass, we will find a way to emulate the server or something and inject BIOS code somehow to our own computers. According to the PDF you could take out the flash chip and replace it with one that has the modded BIOS in it (yea, sure).

    In my email to them I mentioned how manufactures often don't develop features that people want or bug fixes BIOSes because they don't want the development costs or don't think it's important. I made a few examples.

    BIOS modding is a niche for a very limited group. Not everyone has good intentions out there in cyberland and can do dirt to an unsuspecting ponce! I doubt manufacturers are going to lock down offering BIOS updates to end users.

  • Droid 3 Cell Standby Battery Issue - Call Verizon and let them know you're having a problem.

    At this time, the cell standby battery problem is not considered a known issue despite it being a very serious problem for every Droid 3 owner I've spoken with so far. If you are experiencing this or any other problem, report it and encourage everyone you know to report it.
    They are working on a patch for the camera because a lot of people complained, the only way they will fix this issue is if you call and complain - make sure they are aware of the problem. Make sure Motorola is aware of the problem.

    Mine reboots off and on after update but I told them. And when I'm charging it does shut off. I have the new update. After it does this then when I go into a Verizon app like NFL mobile I have to log in to my Verizon profile before I can use the app. Ugh. Does it make u sign in to if my Verizon profile after u turn the phone on as well as go into say NFL mobile or a Verizon owned app like media manager just when u start the app on. Everytime the phone turns off I have to sign in if I want to open one of these apps.

    BACKUP YOUR DATA AT LEAST TWICE BEFORE
    And an added safety precaution, shut down, and disconnect all but Apple keyboard, mouse, and any display that was connected.
    And if you really want to, for good measure make sure everything is either known to be compatible, or needs the update to run smoothly.
    If unsure, please don't hesitate to ask in the forum.  And remember, software doesn't kill hardware.  Hardware may be marginal, and updates tend to highlight that when it happens, but it doesn't mean the software caused the hardware to fail.

    I was having an issue with certian programs crashing randomally, but it only seemed to happen when I was using dhcpcd... a quick search of the forum caused me to check my lo interface, which had been commented out of the rc.conf...  uncommented it out, and blammo, no more issues.
    Thank you guys, even though I didn't have to ask a question, acutally, <i>because</i>I didn't have to ask it and could find the answer from the fourm/wiki.

    I'm sure we all do. I have an amazing knack of spending ages searching for a solution. Give in and decide to ask for help. Then inbetween emailing a friend/posting to a forum/newsgroup, and someone replying, I will have discovered an answer!
    9/10 times I reckon. Unfortunately, my conclusion would be to ask immediately and then I can get on with prompty finding the solution myself
