Versamail & TX hotsync account

First of all, I'm a newbie to this forum, but not to Palm. I had a Tungston T5 that was great, but after several failures (after 3 yrs of working great) I up-graded to a TX.
I have a TX that was working okay with syncing to my desktop's Eudora email account. A program was loaded onto my desktop to check for registry errors and now I can't get the hot-sync of email from my desktop to my TX to work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks. Edward

What version of Vista?  32bit or 64bit?  If 64bit, as mentioned in the thread I referred you to, USB sync is not possible.
Are you trying to sync via Wifi or USB cable?  Do you have a HotSync account name for the data on the computer?
When you did a Hard Reset, did you choose the HotSync account name you created on Palm Desktop?
The numbers you are referring to do not have any relation.  One is a version of Palm software on the device, the other is the version of the HotSync Manager software included with Palm Desktop 6.2.2.
The firmware on the TX does not need to be upgraded.  The problem lies elsewhere.

  • Hotsync failing to download records from Palm TX

I just got a used Palm TX to replace my ancient Handspring Visor, but I can't use it with my main Windows XP system 'cause it just plain won't pull anything down from the TX. It'll put stuff onto the handheld fine, it just doesn't download anything. It doesn't even acknowledge that there's data there to be retrieved. The only way I've gotten it to properly sync is by installing Palm Desktop 6.2.2 on my father's XP machine in order to test if something was wrong with the TX. And I've tried both USB and Wi-Fi syncs to my computer, with no results.
I know it's something wrong with my XP PC, 'cause not only doesn't the Hotsync work right, but Palm Desktop doesn't save anything. Put some data into the Date Book, Address Book, etc., press "Save All", and it'll cheerfully act like it's saving it while silently dropping it into the void. Reopen Palm Desktop and it's all missing. I know this 'cause I exported all my records from Palm Desktop 4.0.1 before uninstalling it, then imported them into 6.2.2, and none of them stuck. The only time it showed up was when I was fiddling around installing and uninstalling the Palm Desktops and tried to install 6.2.2 without uninstalling  4.0.1 and the installer caught that the old one was installed and told me to uninstall it to complete the installation. So I did that, and lo, it imported all the records from the previous install, and they showed up in Palm Desktop 6.2.2. Of course it wouldn't save any changes after that, but it could upload them into my TX.
Anyway, if someone could help be nail down where the Hotsync and Palm Desktop are breaking, that'd be really helpful. I'm at my wits end on this one. Thanks.

Have you checked the HotSync Manager settings for each conduit?  Are they set to "Synchronize", or writing in one direction only?
Is there more than one HotSync Account name on Palm Desktop?  Are you viewing the correct one that matches the name in the HotSync app on the TX?

  • Versamail question. Setting up webmail on my Treo?

I am a big craigslist user and regularly respond to ads online using my treo. I have 4 email accounts setup in versamail.
I have noticed when I respond to ads that the treo is defaulting to the last email account that was used? in other words if I send a regular email from versamail that email account has become the default when I respond to ads.
is there a way to specify which email account is the default for webmail? 2nd question is there a way to have versamail store my emails on the SD card?

Unfortunately, I would not expect this to happen.  VersaMail is a Palm OS application, and I suspect that Palm is putting its development resources into the new Palm webOS.
Don't know for sure about ChatterEmail, but SnapperMail DOES have the option to select which of your accounts is used as the default account to compose new messages with.  It has many flexible options which VersaMail lacks, but it's pricey if you need IMAP support which only comes with the $60 enterprise edition (yikes!!).  Suggest you give it a free 30-day trial run at www.snappermail.com .

  • The card in the SDIO slot is not a palmOne Card

I have tried reset both soft and hard, and reinstalling the wifi driver. when I go to turn the wifi card on under prefs. I get the error message listed above in the subject matter. However the little green light does come on.
    I have a tungsten E2.
The only thing I noticed is that the card I have is the one with the orange and white sticker marked Palm WiFi Card. and the other card that is availabe is marked PalmOne.  is there a difference in the cards? did I buy the wrong one?

The cards are the same, just a different sticker.  Palm changed it's name from PalmOne back to plain ol' "Palm" during the time the cards were still manufactured.
Do you have the latest driver installed?:
    http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/na/tungsten/e2/unlocked/solutions/article/15202_en.html
If you have an earlier driver installed, I'd Hard Reset again, and make a new account called "Test".  Install the new driver per the instructions to this new HotSync account, and see if the card works.  If not, there may be a hardware failure of the card...
If it does work, then there may be a software "drug interaction" going on in the data files saved on your computer.  Hard Reset again, but before restoring all your User data with the original name, go to the computer and find your /Backup folder for the account name.  Rename it to anything else (BackupOLD is fine).  Now do the HotSync.
All your PIM data will return, but no third-party programs or scrambled system files.  Install the newer Wifi driver.

  • Palm TX does a soft reset when I tap on memos

I am new to posting on this forum.  My Palm TX does a soft reset when I tap on memos or push the button I have set to memos.  I also have had several soft resets occur after tuning the my palm on from the On/Off button.  I have had Palms for the last 10 years.  Never had this problem.  The only problem I had was the On/Off button on The TX failed as a result this is my 3rd TX in the last 4 years.  Any suggestions welcome.  I was behind on syncing and my last sync was done about 1 week before this problem occurred.  I really do not want to do a hard reset.  This problem has been going on for a month.  Can I just do an unistall/reinstall without loosing any info?
    Post relates to: Palm TX

This question has been asked and answered many times here... Somehow, the memos database has become corrupt on the device. There are two ways to fix this:
    1. First, open Palm Desktop and go up to Tools/Options/Tools Tab and click the Check Records button. Let it look for corrupt records, and if none are found then a simple fix is to set your HotSync Manager setting for the Memos app to "Desktop overwrites Handheld" for one operation.
If using Palm Desktop 4.x, change the conduit here: Click on your HotSync Manager icon in the tool tray, and select "Custom". Make sure your HotSync Account name is showing in the top window, then highlight the Memos app and click the "Change" button. Click the selection for "Desktop Overwrites Handheld" and click "Done". (DO NOT select the "Set as Default" box!) Now do a HotSync. Since you didn't select "Set As Default" it will only do the overwrite for one operation, then default back to "Synchronize".
If using Palm Desktop 6.2.x, change the conduit here: Click on the HotSync Manager icon in the tool tray, and select "Settings". Make sure your HotSync Account name is showing in the top center window, then click the "Applications" link in the left column. Check the box for "Show Details", Highlight the application you wish to change, then click the "Configure" button. Click the bullet for "Desktop Overwrites Handheld" and DO NOT select the "Set as Default" box. Now do a HotSync. Since you didn't select "Set As Default" it will only do the overwrite for one operation, then default back to "Synchronize".
Check to see if the HotSync completes without errors, and your Memos application is back to normal.
    2. If the above does not fix the problem, then download and install "DBFixit" from Pimlico Software: http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/dbfixit.htm The program will search your device for errors, and fix some for free. Others may require the purchase of a registration code, with the funds going to an animal rescue non-profit (Gorilla Haven).

  • I NOW HAVE 2 PALMONE TUNGSTEN /E2'S I WANT TO SYNC THEM WITH SAME INFO. PLEASE HOW???

My daughter gave me her palm because she has gone to other stuff.  I love my Palm and I would like to sync them both so I could use one especially for Travel purposes while my 'baby' sits safely at home.  All suggestions would be woulcome. TNX HP12thman

Hello, and Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Syncing two Palm PDA's to one HotSync account is not something the devices were designed to do.
I/we here who offer our help here in this Forum have heard numerous reports of scrambled devices, and data saved in Palm Desktop caused by performing this task.
There is a tedious way to do this safely though.  Whether you feel it is worth the trouble is up to you!
You need to designate one of the devices as the "Master", the other the "Slave".   Erase the Slave device via a Hard Reset, then sync it to Palm Desktop.  Palm Desktop will recognize the device as blank and will ask you "Create a new account, or use and existing one?"   Choose existing, and pick your normal account name.
FROM NOW ON you have to change all the Conduit settings in Palm Desktop to "Desktop overwrites Handheld" whenever you wish to sync to this Slave device!!!   If you don't, you will risk scrambling all the data for both devices and Palm Desktop...
In essence, you are creating a simple "Backup Device" that does not get updated while on the road.  Any updates have to be done in either Palm Desktop or the Master Device.   When doing a HotSync to the Master device, the conduits have to be reset to "Synchronize".
I'm sure you can see the probability of making a mistake can be high.
Many of us perferred using an on-device backup system named "NVBackup".  This saved an entire mirror image of the data to an SD card in the device.   However, if you are worried about the slave device being lost or stolen, this won't be of much help.
Good luck!   I still have two Palm TX PDA's that work like brand new!

  • Palm TX won't read memory card

I bought a memory card for my Palm TX.  I'd like to transfer files from the handheld to the card.  When I go to the doc and click "Send to Card" I get a message saying there is no card.  I know the card is correctly installed, as it only goes in one way and it does click into place.  Is there something I'm missing here?  Any suggestions?  Thanks, FKpalmnovice

RPCVCAR, did you use an old HotSync account name when you Hotsynced the info to the device that came from an earlier device than the TX?
This would scramble lots of things on a newer device.  Best check to determine the problem of Hardware vs. software is to:
    In short:
    - hard reset
    - locate backup folder under palm desktop folder tree
    - rename to backup_old
    - sync, select old id. This will bring back PIMs (Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Memos) but no settings nor programs
    - reinstall applications one by one AFTER making sure they are compatible with the target device.

  • Accessing Desktop "address.mdb" & "address.mdb.bak" files

I was using Palm Desktop as my contact mgr on my VISTA PC.
VISTA PC drive crashed, but data was saved and loaded on new PC.
I downloaded & installed Desktop V 6.2.2 on new Windows 7 PC, but the process did not find my old contacts file.
I have located two key files, "address.mdb" and "address.mdb.bak" that are dated just a day before old PC crashed, but I cannot figure out how to load this data into Desktop. Import process does not seem to support the .mdb or .bak formats.
Alternatively, can anyone tell me the name of the file(s) where the Desktop data should be?  If I can find those files I might be able to place them in the directory where desktop is looking for them.

Palm Desktop 6.2 is installed on my Vista laptop, and the address.mdb file can be found here:
    C:\Users\WyreNut\Documents\Palm OS Desktop\<my Hotsync account name>\address
You might need to create a user name identical to your original HotSync Account name so the proper folder can be found.

  • Exporting address book to Palm Centro

You'll need to erase the "new" phone with a Hard Reset first.
How to Hard Reset a Palm Centro.
Go to http://kb.palm.com and enter the number 45050 into the "Solution ID" box.
Once this is complete, perform a HotSync with the computer the data is residing on.  Palm Desktop will recognize the device as blank, and will ask you: "Create a New HotSync Account, or use an Existing One?"  Choose Existing, and pick your original HotSync Account name.
All the data should be copied to your "new" phone when the process is completed.

To make things a bit less worrysome, just make a copy of your entire User account folder before performing the Export.  If using Palm Desktop 4.x, it should be residing in  C:\Program Files\Palm (or PalmOne)\<your HotSync account name truncated>

  • Re-install PalmOne Desktop v. 4.1.4?

Help! My (very old) Zire 31 has worked very well with PalmOne Desktop v 4.1.4 until now. Will no longer HotSync.
It does not seem to be the PDA, so I suspect a desktop file is corrupted.
My PDA battery has completely discharged, so all its user data has been lost. My Desktop has 10 years' worth of dates and addresses I would hate to lose.
If I re-install 4.1.4, will my user data be preserved? Or should I install an update?
Thanks in advance. Sure could use some adult supervision.

    Post relates to: Zire 31

    Campus56, two things -
First off, the PalmTX installation disk came with Palm Desktop version 4.2, not 4.1.4.  That sounds like the one supplied with your T|E...  4.2 is available from my "Reading the Manual..." link below.
Secondly, to insure no loss of data, copy your HotSync user data from your present installation on your computer (C:/Program Files/Palm/ <hotsync account name truncated> ), and save it in another place - either in a totally different directory on your computer, or on a "thumb drive".  This way, it will be safe no matter what happens in any uninstall/reinstall.
I'm not completely understanding your question.  Did you wipe out the data on the TX or not?  Some programs will cause a simple "Reset" to be required, but none that I know of will ask you to do a "Hard Reset"!!!  A normal Soft Reset just reboots the device, which is sometimes necessary depending on the software installed.  I recall most SkyScape medical programs forced a reset after installation...
Palm Desktop 4.2 will work fine in Win7 with the addition of the Aceeca 64bit drivers now available.  See the Windows HotSync section of this forum for information about 64bit drivers.
    Thanks for the compliment!

Is it actually a brand-new unit, or a used one with another Hotsync name on it?   Look at the Hotsync icon on the device - is there a name at the top right corner?
You'll need to completely erase the device via a Hard Reset, then try to HotSync to your computer.  Palm Desktop will ask you, "Use an existing account, or create a new one?"  Choose Existing, then select your former HotSync account name.  All your data and programs should return.
