Version Sets - This must be super easy

I've been using PS Elements 5.0 for a while now but only the basics.
Recently I downloaded a trial version of DXO Optics Pro to optimize the quality of the photos (especially RAW files) from my DSLR.
I setup DXO as an alternate Editor program in PSE 5.0
When I edit the photo in DXO and leave DXO, close the external editor, then an enhanced copy of that image is saved in my catalog.
Here is the question, which I would have thought would have been obvious but I couldn't find or figure out the answer myself:
Is there a simple way to have that photo show up right beside the original in my PSE organizer? I was unable to tag the original file and the enhanced file to be in a version set. And, I have used version sets in the past but always with photos from the same date of import.
I haven't tried but I guess I could download some utility to modify the file date of the DXO enhanced image but that surely can't be the only way.
I simply want to keep the original but have the enhanced version displayed as the top photo in the version set.
While I'm asking, is there a better way to use the DXO plug-in? I tried the export function in PSE 5.0 but it got me confused and I ended up setting DXO as my secondary editor instead.
Thanks!

Tricia is correct. However, you may be asking another question, too. If you edit in photoshop, then your edited copies will appear in the organizer after you save them, either as a version set or not depending on what you check off on the window that appears as you save the edited picture. However, if you use another editor the edited copy you create will not automatically get into the organizer. Instead you need to save the edited copy, then go back to the organizer and import the picture into the organzier from your hard drive. To do so in organizer go to: file>get photos>from files and folder. (Photoshop Organizer obviously wants it to be easier to use photoshop for editing rather than some other software *grin*)

The iPad 1 can be updated to iOS 5.1.1. You can see what level you are running in Settings > General > About > Version.
If you are not at iOS 5.1.1 and if you are have iOS 4 (or earlier) there is no Software Update in Settings. That feature was first added in iOS 5.
To update you will have to connect your iPad to iTunes on a computer (preferably the one you sync with and backup to).
    See here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
If you are on level 5 but not at 5.1.1 you can update to 5.1.1 using Settings > General > Software Update.
There are still many Apps which will run on iOS 5. Also, some developers have older levels still available for the iPad 1.

  • Photoshop Elements 13 (Mac) Organizer - Can't save file with version sets.

I have spent many hours now trying to get Elements Organizer to save Version Sets when I've edited a photo. I've tried more or less every little thing you can find online without any luck. But just moments ago I found that if I move the file to my desktop everything works just fine. I then tried to edit files in a few other folders (also imported to my Organizer) and found that when ever the folder was named to something with a nordic letter in it (å, ä, ö) then I couldn't save my file with version sets (option greyed out) but if I moved that same file to another folder, well then everything worked as it's suposed to.
I'm using the trial version of PSE 13 for Mac (Yosemite) and the full version is ordered and on it's way. But if this problem can't be fixed, I need to return that order and buy some other photo editing program.
Can anyone help me with this problem? Is there perhaps a solution to this?
Please, any help is much appreciated!

I'm using the English version (as more or less always - Swedish is rarely an option). The thing is that I have never encountered this problem before in any other software I've been using, and certainly not in Aperture that I've been using up until now.
I name my photo folders with a date and a few words, for ex. "2014-12-31 New Years in Stockholm" (but I normally write in Swedish). I use this method so that my folder that contains the original photos will be easy to find in even without any other software than Finder (or Windows Explorer if I connect my external drive to a Windows machine). I could change the name of all of my folders, or at least all of the folders with a name containing one or more of the letters Å, Ä or Ö to "force" PSE to work as it should, but why? This really shouldn't be a problem.
I was hoping that their was a simple option or something like that that could fix this issue, but I guess not.
If this problem lies in the software itself I will have to return it and look elsewhere (but where? Lightroom is certainly not an option if Adobe can't handle "normal" letters and Aperture is discontinued in a few months).
    Thank you for your reply!

I must run a 32-bit programe  on a windows 64-bit operating sistem, and i receive this message:"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running.[...]". I tried with Troubleshoot compatibility - didn't

    Hello qqnicol,
    What program do you run?
Please contact the software provider to confirm if this 32-bit program can run in 64-bit Windows.
As some programs can only run in specific version of Windows, please download the right version of software.
Most programs designed for the 32-bit version of Windows will work on the 64-bit version of Windows. Notable exceptions are many antivirus programs.
Device drivers designed for the 32-bit version of Windows don't work on computers running a 64-bit version of Windows too.

  • PSE 12.1 not saving in version set

I have been successfully using PSE 12.1 on Windows 7 since last August.  However I've started having problems in the last 2 or 3 days.  I start the Organizer and select a photo to edit.  When I "save as" I get one of two results.  In the first case it saves the photo in the proper folder but it does not create a version set with the original.  In the second case, the editor locks up and eventually I get a message saying the editor is not responding and windows is looking for a solution.  Usually it saves one photo as in case one above, and then fails to respond on the second photo and I shut it down.  Over the past 2 days I have uninstalled PSE 12 and reinstalled 3 times, upgrading to 12.1 each time., but I get the same result.  Any ideas what is causing this?
Update:  I've given up.  Uninstalled for the last time; purchased PSE 13; everything working with new version.

Today's state of the problem seems to be that this happens not only with saving in version sets in PSE12, but also on simple saves with 'include in the organizer' checked.
It happens on previously converted catalogs, not on new ones.
It happens when the process 'elementsautoanalyzer.exe' is running (you can 'kill' it from the Windows task bar, but you must do it every time you start the organizer. Deleting or renaming this file seems to work.)
This seems also to be a problem for people using the 'watched folders'.
So, to prevent the problem : kill the elementsautoanalyzer.exe every time you start the organizer.
To recover the edited files not included in the catalog, do a manual 'get photos and videos' from the already gotten files.
It's important to do so, otherwise the edited files won't be catalogued and be missing if you do a backup.
If necessary, use the automatic stacking feature by visual similarity to stack your originals with your edited versions, since you can't create version sets.
If you can share your experience on the above feedback link, please do it and add your vote.

  • JdbcRowSetXImp (..): SET TRANSACTION must be first statement of transaction

    Hi.
Im running JSC created application and getting in the log file this messages:
[date & time] warning (24167): CORE3238: stderr: JdbcRowSetXImpl (setTransactionIsolation): [Sun][Oracle JDBC Driver][Oracle]ORA-01453: SET TRANSACTION must be the first statement of transaction
As you may see, Im using JSC JDBC drivers. Im running on Sun One Web Server version 6.1 sp2 on Linux RedHat 3Ent. The application was builded with JSC me with latest patch applied.
It seems a bug in the JdbcRowSetXImpl.
    Has someone similar problem?
    Regards.

    Hi John.
This message is present on all log file a few days after the application began in production use, almost a month ago.
The only change done in the configuration few days after the app was deployed was "Guarantee Isolation Level" in the JDBC connection pool configuration, switched from OFF to ON.
Yesterday I turn OFF again and have no more messages about SET TRANSACTION...
I guess that the SET TRANSACTION is issued two times, one by the web server before giving the connection to the app then by the row set impl.
I will let you known if the messages appears again (I guess not).
    Regards.

  • Version sets are gone....!!

    Hi there!
My computer just crashed last week - apparently got a nasty virus infection that went through the firewall. Consequently I had to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the whole system (Windows 7). Of course I had a back-up of all my pictures so this is not a problem. The pain is that I have to reinstall all the softwares...! Today I reinstalled Photoshop Element 8 from the installation CD I have and directly after I imported all pictures again in the organizer. Everything went fine though of course it took some time as I have many pictures. The problem now is that all my Version Sets that I had have disappeared!! Pictures belonging to the same Version Set are there but they are not included in a Version Set anymore. I use to have Version Sets for different formats of the same pictures, for instance jpg, PSD and NEF, as it is very helpful. This is very annoying as I had plenty of these Version Sets and they were helping me big time in my work flow.
Do you know if there is a way to get them back? I would me the most thankful if you could help me on that one!
    All the very best

Leunammeod wrote:.I guess that I’ll have to recreate manually my version sets. Is there a smooth and “less” painful way to do it in Element 8?
.You can't recreate version sets, they are only created when you save an edited file ; but you can create stacks, either manually, or by using the help of the  'automatically suggest photo stacks' feature based on visual similarity.
The integrated backup/restore you’re mentioning is the one included in the file menu of the organizer (Ctrl+B) isn’t it?
    Yes.
Actually all my hard drives are pretty full but I do recall (I may be wrong) that Adobe was offering (free of charge or not?) the possibility of having an online backup. Is this backup compatible with the integrated backup/restore process or does it work differently? For instance does it allow me to backup catalogs too?
Adobe did offer the photoshop.com service (not for european users...) for such online backup, but this is being replaced by Revel. I don't use those, so I'll let more competent users comment about this possibility. Online backup for big catalogs of images seems to me problematic due do transfer speed.
I looked for the catalog as you told me (help menu/System info) and it seems to be a folder containing several files. If I want to make a backup of my catalog manually (via Windows explorer) do I have to save the whole folder or just the PS8DB file included there? How do I restore catalogs if I choose this option?
Yes, it's quick and easy to copy the catalog folder manually, or you can include that folder in your external backup software scheme. If you restore both the catalog and the image files in the original location, no problem. You can even move or restore the catalog folder manually : if you double click the file catalog.tly in that folder, that will work as well. The content of the catalog (a 'list' to simplify) is always valid even if the catalog is moved. The advantage of the integrated backup is that it can update the contents of the catalog even if the original file tree is restored on another drive or master folder. Suppose you want to restore all your files to a new drive : the catalog copy would hold the old picture files location and would show all of them missing. You'd have to use a 'reconnect' function to update the catalog (never easy !).
Is the metadata you're talking about equivalent to the XMP sidecar file?
Yes, the xmp sidecar file system is used to store that same information for file formats which do not support writing that info in the metadata section of the file itself : especially for raw files, whereas jpegs can hold that information.

  • IPhone Version of this forum?

Apple makes quite a big deal about people making iPhone (Web 2.0) compatible versions of their web sites.
    See; http://developer.apple.com/iphone/devcenter/
    and specifically; http://developer.apple.com/iphone/devcenter/designingcontent.html
Where is the iPhone compatible version of this forum? I can't find it.

    Paul,
It's obvious that you're talking about Apple's guidelines for Web apps and iPhone-friendly sites. And you're right, Apple's site does not have a version specifically for the iPhone.
While this site is perfectly viewable on an iPhone, if there were a version of the discussions made specifically for iPhone, this would make viewing easier. Though I love the full browser abilities (which are unparalleled), the iPhone-specific sites and Web apps are easier to navigate, faster loading and usually a better experience.
All that said, there doesn't appear to be one in a third-party proxy version that minimizes for iPhone either. Thought I saw one in the Web apps list a while back, but can't find it now. I've been looking for the same thing.
There is a consolation though: I zoomed in on the top of the message list and created a Web clip for my desktop. When I launch this, the iPhone focuses only on the list making it readable. When you tap a header you get the message in full screen which is readable (in landscape mode) since the type is bigger. When you page back to the headers, they're still zoomed in. If you set it up this way you can read the discussions without having to zoom.

  • Modifying Version Set and/or Stack Attributes

My Photoshop Elements (PSE) 5.0 catalog has many version sets and stacks.
Contrary to my expectation, I recently learned that that edits to the top photo's attributes (e.g. Date, Caption, Notes, Tags, etc.) did not translate through to the underlying photos of the associated version set or stack. As a consequence, subsequently moving a different photo to the top of a stack or version set can lead to loss (or at least displacement) of these important attributes.
Is there a way to get PSE to automatically copy attribute changes through to the underlying photos or at least to ask the user if (s)he wants edits to translate through the version set or stack? If this feature is not currently available, I think it would be a significant value-added enhancement to the product.

Users tend to use software differently and to have differing needs and preferences. Barb's point is valid in that, should Adobe provide the ability to assign attributes 'through' a version set or stack, the feature would warrant a user prompt or preference setting to acomodate user's differing needs and preference.
Exceptional software, like PSE, anticipates and supports user needs in an efficient and predictable manner. Version sets, almost by definition, can be expected to have the same date, time, tags, captions and notes. Stacks - perhaps to a lesser degree.
Forcing users to perform tasks in a specified sequence (e.g. adjusting attributes before version sets or stack generation), or to expand stacks or version sets to assign attributes through to underlying photos, seems unnecessarily tedious and inconvenient. For instance, expanding version sets and stacks forces users to aboard current search criteria.
Anyone who has imported large batches of scanned negatives or slides which contain no meaningful metadata (with PSE set to auto-correct red-eye and to recommend stacks) knows how easy it is to generate version sets and stacks BEFORE the user begins the process of attribute assignment or correction.

  • Working With Version Sets

As I explore this feature of PSE8, I would need assistance.
My original is a JPEG, which I edited in Editor.  Because of the operations I  performed in Editor, PSE's default filetype in saving to a version set is a ,psd.
So now I have the original JPEG along with the edited PSD version.  However I need the image to be ultimately in JPEG format.
    Here's the question:
Should I have converted the edited photo to a JPEG when saving it's version set, or am I better off keeping the edited version in PSD.  If the latter, then what's the quick way to convert the edited PSD version to the final JPEG?  Must I return the PSD back to Editor and do another "Save As" or can I convert the filetype from within Organizer?
    Thank you for any help!

    You can do either...
You could go back to the Editor, open your PSD, and then do a Save As and set the format to JPEG.
    or
In the Organizer, you could select the PSD, and then do a File->Export as New File(s)
Follow the instructions and you can create a JPEG.
    Cheers
    Bob

  • Importing photos and retaining version sets

    Hello
I have had to reinstall PhotoShop Elements and re-import ALL my photos. In some cases I have 3 or 4 versions of the same photo appearing in the new catalogue, where I have edited the original.
Is there an easy way to re-build the version sets without manually deleting all of the old versions from the catalogue? I have about 1000 to get through!
    Mark

    Mark
Barb Olsen has posted this link before on how to manually make version sets. Its kind of sleight of hand and labor intensive http://photofanatic.com/topics/add_version.php
Also, if you are just trying to group the images together, you could use the stack command without having to do any editing. This would reduce the visual clutter (three photos would show as one). Might be one idea if you don't want to do any editing.

  • Moving originals from Version Sets offline

Everything is working fine, but wanted to find out if there was an easier way to select just the originals from each version set to move them off-line? I now have more than 10,000 version sets in my V6 catalog! The idea of expanding all the sets and manually selecting the originals is a bit daunting. At the same time, I don't want to move everything off-line, nor loose the originals by flattening the sets.
I'm contemplating, duplicating my catalog with one catalog totally off-line and then flattening the version sets in the second catalog. Is there any easier ways?
    Thanks

Unfortunately, Adobe changed the way version sets and stacks are displayed in search results in PSE 6 whenever a file is matched by a search query, the files entire version set or stack are included in the search results. As a result, there is no easy way to select just the matching files within the version sets or stacks.
For example, you could do a Find > By Details, with criteria Filename Does not Contain _edited, to find all the originals. But the search results will display all the files in each version set, which defeats your purpose.
A number of people have complained about this here and in other forums. (I dont think a product manager thought this through very carefully.)
I cant think of any easier way of accomplishing what you want.
