Very annoying 11g OUI install error for the oracle clusterware

Clean install of 11g RAC Clusterware downloaded from oracle site today
./runcluvfy.sh stage -pre crsinst -n lin1,lin2 -verbose
...everything passes just fine. Great. Time to install the clusterware.
[oracle@lin1]$ ./runInstaller
Installer starts, prerequisite checks are done for **Oracle 9.2 RAC and OCR*** Where did 9.2 come from?. All the checks succeed so... whatever...just move on.
I get a few screens to the "Specify Cluster Configuration" sceen.
I enter the following for the Cluster Name: lin_cluster
I enter the following for the 2 nodes:
Public Node Name Private Node Name Virtual Host Name
lin1 lin1-priv lin1-vip
lin2 lin2-priv lin2-vip
Click next.....ack!! Error: "You must enter unique values for the public node name, the private node name and the virtual hostname for all nodes in the cluster. The name, lin1, that you entered is being used by more than once [sic] for the same node"
So, what to do? How more unique can the names be?
There is an option to "Use A configuration File..." and browse for it. Anyone know where that file is?
Any assistance much appreciated.

Ice,
Yes my friend...well done. There was an incorrect entry in my /etc/hosts file as follows:
[root@lin1 ~]# more /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
192.168.1.50 shiva
# Public Network - (eth0)
192.168.1.100 lin1
192.168.1.101 lin2
# Private Interconnect - (eth1)
192.168.1.100 lin1-priv <-----right here...should be 192.168.2.100
192.168.2.101 lin2-priv
# Public Virtual IP (VIP) - (eth0)
192.168.1.200 lin1-vip
192.168.1.201 lin2-vip
# Private Storage Network for Openfiler - (eth1)
192.168.1.195 openfiler
192.168.2.195 openfiler-priv
Thank you so much for your assistance thus far. I'm already on to the next problem. These RAC installations are new territory for me and are a real challenge. - thx, yomick

  • Error when installing 9.0.1.4.0 patch set for the Oracle Database Server.

    Hi to all.
    Currently, i am trying to install patches for portal server.
    The server OS is Sun Solaris 8.
    We are using Oracle9iAS.
    Now, we are installing 9.0.1.4.0 patch set for the Oracle Database Server.
    We managed to install the patch, but have problem with the Post Install Action.
    We managed to run
    -ALTER SYSTEM ENABLE RESTRICTED SESSION;
    -@rdbms/admin/catpatch.sql
    -ALTER SYSTEM DISABLE RESTRICTED SESSION;
    -CONNECT / AS SYSDBA
    -update obj$ set status=5 where type#=29 and owner#!=0;
    -commit;
    But, when we come to the next command, which is to shutdown, it gives us like
    this..
    SQL> update obj$ set status=5 where type#=29 and owner#!=0;
    1402 rows updated.
    SQL> commit;
    Commit complete.
    SQL> shutdown immediate
    Database closed.
    Database dismounted.
    ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
    ORA-01219: database not open: queries allowed on fixed tables/views only
    We tried to startup the database..it gives us this error..
    SQL> startup
    ORA-01081: cannot start already-running ORACLE - shut it down first
    So, we tried to shutdown again..
    SQL> shutdown immediate
    ORA-01089: immediate shutdown in progress - no operations are permitted
    I been informed that this is maybe a Database problem related. Any ideas?
    Best Wishes,
    Rushdan Md Saad.

    Patchsets could be obtained (only) from http://metalink.oracle.com
    You need to have valid CSI for access.
    P.S: Sorry Werner, I didn't see you post.

  • How to download and Install bos.loc.utf.EN_US Package for the Oracle BI locale setting english-usa language in Windows 7 64bit

    OBIEE 11G Installation error during configuration steps with message "Distributing Repository" failed.
    I searched lot of forums but all they say, install bos.loc.utf.EN_US Package for the Oracle BI locale setting english-usa language. From where we can download this package.
    Thanks in advance.

    But I am assuming that when I make the installer, the 32-bit Run Time Engine is appened with the installer, as show below
    Since from the picture you can see its including the support installers from '\Program Files (x86)\'
    The application runs queries to fetch data from database in SQL server 2008, and for that I am using a Microsoft SQL Native Client 2008 R2 64 bit ( this is the only version that installs on either PC, even the one on which I developed my LV Application).
    I am not using any driver, only toolkits for reports - and for that I un-checked the "Remove unused polymorphic VI instances" when making the executable, otherwise LV throws up an exception that share variable are not being included.
    Yes I did reboot every time after I ran the installation.
    Still getting the same error.

  • ERROR: Install cannot verify the oracle 10g Database

    I just completed installation of the SES 10.1.8.2 version and am now trying to apply the 10.1.8.4 Service Pack. After the OUI screen asks for my sys password, I click on Next and receive a popup error message that reads,
    Install cannot verify the oracle 10g Database. Please ensure that the database and its listener are running and please verify that the information you entered is correct.
    The installer log file (installActions2010-04-15_08-56-19PM.log) shows this:

    I've verified that I can login as EQSYS using sqlplus. Also tested that I can login as sys, too. I've also tested the login using the Admin console and that is fine, too.
    Any ideas on what is causing this or how to fix it is most welcome as I've not encountered this error before when installing SES or a service pack. I've even tried the OUI for Service pack 10.1.8.3 but also get the same error.
    I've checked the listener.ora and tnsnames and they are OK. I've checked and the listener is running and so is the DB.
    Right now, I have the Oracle SES instance up and running at 10.1.8.2 but need to upgrade this to the same level as the other SES search nodes.
    Edited by: user8655787 on Apr 15, 2010 2:18 PM
    My listener.log file is showing this message each time, I run the OUI and enter the sys password and click "Next"

    TNS-12502: TNS:listener received no CONNECT_DATA from client

    A couple of other things that I have tried but have had no affect. I'm still getting the same error:
    1. Tried recreating the orapwd file
    orapwd file=orapwprdses01 password=prdses01
    And make sure that the pfile or spfile has:
    remote_login_passwordfile='EXCLUSIVE'
    another OTN posting said to try this:
    1. Go to directory $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin
    2. Modify sqlnet.ora file with following parameter:
    tcp.validnode_checking = no
    3. If you don't want to disable this, you can put the machine names as follows:
    tcp.invited_nodes=(machine1, machine2)
    3. Bounce the listener.
    .... but, I'm still getting the same error when trying to run the .runInstaller OUI for the service pack for 10.1.8.4.

  • Some elements of downloaded PDF not showing (Error: "For the best experience, open this PDF portfolio...")

    I'm on a PC attempting to view a downloaded PDF. It's an application so the document is generated by our online system and aggregates info from the applicant as well as documents they uploaded. I can see most of the final product but the document uploaded by the applicant gives the error "For the best experience, open this PDF portfolio in Acrobat 9 or Adobe Reader 9, or later." I downloaded the latest Reader (DC) and when I searched to download the latest Flash Player I got a message that it should be up-to-date since I use Chrome. Shouldn't I be getting a com.evermind.sql.OrclCMTConnection created instead of a com.evermind.sql.OrionCMTConnection (per the stack trace)? OJMS is complaining that it doesn't have an OracleCOnnection but how do I tell it to use the "OrclCMTConnection" class instead?

  • How to install IGS for the ABAP trial version SP11

    Hi,
    Please can anyone provide me with the steps to install IGS for the ABAP trial version SP11.
    Which version of IGS to download?
    What are extracting the SAR files what steps should be followed?
    Please advice,
    Thanks,
    sam

    Hi Rich and Sam,
    here is some kind of how to guide which hopefully contains all steps you need do perform.
    Best regards
    Matthias
    The IGS consists of a directory structure under DIR_INSTANCE/igs (containing folders and configuration files) and executables and libraires under DIR_EXECUTABLE. These excutables and libraries are available on the Service Marketplace in archive igsexe.sar. This file has to be extracted to DIR_EXECUTABLE.
    On the Service Marketplace you also find the file igshelper.sar which contains the above mentioned folder structure that must be extracted to DIR_INSTANCE. Normally this comes with a Web AS installation.
    Afterwards please go to DIR_INSTANCE/igs/conf and rename the files gfwchart.tpl, xmlchart.tpl and bwgis.tpl to gfwchart, xmlchart and bwgis, see notes 531668, 596825 and 1011372.
    To include the IGS to the start of the system you have to add the following to the start profile:
    Start internet graphics server
    IG = $(DIREXECUTABLE)\igswd$(FT_EXE)
    Start_Program_03 = local $(_IG) -mode=profile pf=$(_PF)
    Normally parameter _PF is defined as absolute path to the instance profile. If not use the absolute path instead.
    To enable HTTP administration you have to add the instance profile parameter:
    igs/listener/http= 4$(SAPSYSTEM)80,administration
    HTTP administration access was disabled by default with patch 4, see note 959358.
    If your system is a Java only system you must deactivate the RFC listener with the instance profile entry:
    igs/listener/rfc=disable
    For using the IGS with Web Dynpro Java you must define the IgsUrl according to note  704604. After a system restart the IGS should be up and running.
    You can test if the IGS is up and running with the link http://localhost:4$(SAPSYSTEM)80 or in an ABAP system via report GRAPHICS_IGS_ADMIN.

  • Why can I download and install all of the Oracle ATS products for free?

    Why can I download and install all of the Oracle ATS products for free?  When I installed, I was not prompted for any licenses or to purchase anything.
    I want to know why this is possible and if there are plans to charge for it in the future?

    I don't know Oracle's ATS products specifically, but many of Oracle's products can be downloaded and used for free for learning purposes.
    Typically, if you intend to use the products commercially then you need to pay for a licence, otherwise you are using it illegally.
    This is usually described in the T&C's you agree to when you download the software.
