Vi's for Tektronix CSA8000

I need vi's or technical support for Tektronix
CSA8000. I'm using windows98 and LabVIEW6

This is a FAQ that describes GPIB programming tips and describes some example programs which may be found on the software CD that comes with the CSA8000.
http://www.tek.com/Measurement/Support/scopes/faq/tds8000.html
You should call Tektronixs and ask the to send you the CD (It should be free). Also the programmers reference in manual would be a good place to start. I don't know if you can get it for free, but you may be able to get Tek to send you an electronic copy.

  • How to draw the waveform for Tektronix TDS 500?

    Hi,
I am working on drawing the 2 waveform graphs for Tektronix TDS 500 by using Labview 6.0. Does any one have any experience and tell me or could you please provide an example ? Thanks a lot.

    Hi Dennis,
Thanks for your answer. But the programs download from the website that you provide dosen't work. I compiled my own program, and I just want to display the waveforms of the TDS 520D on my labview program on my computer.
The attachment is my program. Before I use GPIBREAD, I send some commands using GPIBWRITE. The commands is from GETWFM.C download from

I did some looking around on the Tektronix web site.
Tek does not seem all that interested in supporting the
TLA704 in particular, or LabView(tm) for logic analyzers
at all. IMHO the Tek site sucks when you need to find
    information in depth.
I looked through National Instruments site too. Now on this
site it was easy to find what I was looking for. Good job.
Developing a LabVIEW instrument driver for a logic analyzer
looks to be a non-trivial task for anything more involved than
starting a capture and waiting for the data to log. Depending
on the driver it could be real slow getting a load of data from
    the logic analyzer.
It might be better to use the TLA programmatic interface
(TPI) to run the TLA704 by remote control over the Ethernet.
All the support for this comes with the analyzer software.
Though it's really painful to get it setup in Windows 98.
This way you could create a Windows program that runs
on your workstation to connect to the TLA704, set it up,
start a run, and download the data. Once the data is in
your workstation you can reformat for use by LabView.
I don't know that this would be easier than making a
LabVIEW instrument driver for a logic analyzer, but
at least all the software exists right now to control
    the TLA704 remotely.
    Charles.
I don't work for National Instruments,
or Tektronix or use LabView. But I use
    logic analyzers way too much.

  • Instrument driver for Tektronix TDS 640A

Is there an instrument driver available for the tektronixs TDS 640A. The Labview version is 5.1.

Here you can find Instrument Drivers: http://zone.ni.com/idnet97.nsf/browse/ but the most drivers are for LabVIEW 6 or higher. So you should update your LabVIEW-Version.

  • Driver for Tektronix 420 produces 9.9E37 as measurement.

I am a student at VA Tech and have been using LabView 7 Express for the past 4 weeks to design a GUI for the Power Laboratory. I am having a problem with the "Read Measure" part of the driver for the Tektronix 420 Oscillscope. When I implemented it in a program it does not give back the right measurement unless the "Highlight Execution" button in the block diagram is switched on. Even when it is switched on, I am trying to read 4 different measurements and only 3 out of the 4 come out correctly. I am connected to the Scope through a GPIB connection.

Let me guess--you have a 30" monitor. Those are some mighty large diagrams you have there. You might consider creating subVIs to encapsulate your program a little better. Try to make each diagram relatively small and readable, and try to avoid the sequence structure.
    But I digress...
I think the problem is that the instrument doesn't tolerate being sent multiple commands at the same time. You have four "Read Waveform" VIs running in parallel. The instrument can't process four commands to read at the same time.
I'm not real familiar with that instrument driver, but I think you just need to ensure that the four "Read Waveform" VIs don't run in parallel. For example, connect them each left to right with the error I/O terminals connected together. Th
is will ensure that one finishes before the next one starts.
    Does this make sense?

  • Can't install PPD for Tektronix (XEROX) Phaser 740...

I have a Phaser 740 over ethernet that I can talk to through a basic PostScript driver but I can't get any features like duplex and the color does not match completely. • Modelling error in Multisim's Tektronix TDS2024 FFT option

The user's manual for Tektronix TDS2024 mentions that a 1 Vrms signal will be displayed as 0 dB peak in the FFT view. However, when I connect a 1 Vrms source to Tektronix TDS2024 scope in Multisim, I get a peak at 3 dB. This is only possible if National Instruments is using peak value in 20 log(V1/Vref) forumla instead of the RMS value which an actual (i.e., physical) TDS2024 oscilloscope uses.
Could someone confirm if its really a mistake or is it supposed to be like that?
    Thanks in advance.

You nailed it!  In the (old SPICE) analyses everything is peak amplitude (as it is in MULTISIM's "signal" sources).  NI's additon of RMS options to "power" sources and not changing the corresponding "AC Analysis" from peak to RMS kinda added to the confusion!  It seems to me that MULTISIM should stick to one or the other for consistency and make it clear what it is!  Most EEs likely think that RMS is the "default" whereas most CSs (like the origimal Berkeley SPICE developers) likely thought peak was (as in Asin(omega)).

  • Delay-problems with Tektronix TDS 2014

We have downloaded the drivers for Tektronix TDS 2014 and connected the oscilloscope with a signal generator. We are using 5 or 6 different vi's, but the "Read Waveform To Array.vi" and "Read Waveform to File.vi" is using more than 6 or 7 seconds. The other vi's are quite fast. What could be the reason for this delay? We need our program to respond a lot faster than this, so we hope someone can help us! Thank you in advance!

Some of the time spent would certainly depend on the size of the waveform you're transfering and to some extent on the actual gpib board you're using (older and cheaper gpib boards have a slower transfer rate). The VI is also doing a few other things besides just the waveform transfer. It is requesting the waveform preamble each time and you might want to try skipping that and just issuing the CURVE? command to see how long it takes just for the waveform transfer itself.

  • Unable to remote control Tektronix TBS1062 with USB Interface

    Hi,
I have recently downloaded IVI Driver for Tektronix TBS1062 from national instruments.  I am using USB communication.I have configured the instrument in NI MAX and can identify the instrument successfully. However I am unable to use any of the other functions using IVI  driver. The IVI Step in NI TestStand always passes without any errors and NI I/O Trace shows VI_SUCCESS but I cannot see any chanes to settings in the horizontal scale and the veritical scale as configured by the IVI step. The horizontal and vertical scales always remain the same.
I am not really sure ,But could it be because of the USB interface?? Does the driver support USB?
Did anyone have the same error or Could anyone please help resolve this issue.
    Many Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

First thing I would do is make sure the instrument is setup properly to accept commands over the USB.
After that, try sending commands through MAX to see if the scope reacts.
Then make sure you aren't using a simulated IVI session.
There are only two ways to tell somebody thanks: Kudos and Marked Solutions

  • Tektronix 3xx Driver: Missing VIs

After installing and starting the NI-Device-Driver-VI for Tektronix 3xx Devices, I get error messages due to missing VIs like "TKTDS Read.vi" or "TKTDS Start-Stop Acqui.vi". No dokumentation available with the driver. Working with LabVIEW 6.02.
    Any idea?
    C. Wennmacher

I downloaded the dktds3xx.zip file from NI's instrument driver download site. I unzipped the file and it created two llb's in two different folders. They were tktds3xx.llb and tktdsxxx.llb. The files you are missing are in the tktdsxxx.llb. To solve your problem you have a couple options.
    1) When the VI prompts you for the location of the missing VIs just navigate to the llb and select the appropriate VI.
    2) Better Way - Move both llb's into your instr.lib folder which is probably in your c:\Program Files\National Instruments\Labview 6 directory. The necessary VIs will automatically be found since this directory is automatically included in the VI search path.

  • Computer as 'black box' between contoller and device

    Hallo,
I am trying to develop some sort of 'computer black box' (a computer
with a GPIB - board and some software) to catch all GPIB commands
from a controller to a device and back.
The commands from the controller must be interpreted by the 'black box'
and then send to the device - and the other way around.
Has anybody some ideas how to do this? I would be VERY happy to
get some sample code in c/c++.
    Thanks in advance,
    Carsten.
P.S.: My problem is that it seems that I have 2 contoller on the bus at some
    time which causes problems.

Yes, this can, and HAS been done! Admittedly, this is an ADVANCED GPIB
    application!
WHY would you want to do this? You may need to have the "black box computer"
translate GPIB commands originally intended for one instrument, so you can use a
newer replacement instrument. It may be the case that the original source code
and/or developement software tools are no longer available. (Think old,
    military projects.)
On the other hand, if you just need to log GPIB traffic, and pass it on, then
NI's GPIB+ Analyzer card is all you need.
But if you really need to modify the GPIB commands on the fly, then you need TWO
GPIB cards in the black box computer.
The first card is setup/programmed to NOT be a system controller, and board
level IBRD and IBWRT calls are made to receive and send GPIB messages with the
(main) GPIB controller. Just put the IBRD and IBWRT in a loop, and use a short
timeout, say .1 second. Most of the time, these will timeout. But when the
(main) controller sends a message, the IBRD won't timeout, and your program then
knows it has recieved a new GPIB message from the main controller. Likewise,
when you need to send a response back to the main controller, just keep calling
IBWRT until it doesn't time out, then you know the main controller received it.
The second GPIB would be setup/programmed in the normal way, as GPIB system
    controller.
The application software running on the black box computer would recieve a GPIB
message on the first (talker/listener) GPIB, process it in some way, then send
it to the instrument on the second (controller) GPIB.
I myself wrote a program for Tektronix TLA700 logic analyzers that makes the NI
PCMCIA-GPIB controller card behave exactly like a GPIB Talker/Listner. The
program parses the received GPIB commands and executes them by making calls to
the TLA700 software. This program was written in VB6 and is available from
    Tektronix.
(note: I no longer work for Tek...)
    Good luck!

  • Interface to HP34970A with Signal Express

    Hello,
I am trying to interface an Agilent HP 34970A using a demo version of Signal Express 1.2. I installed the ivi-com driver version 1.0.0.4 from Agilent. When I go through "add step/IVI DMM Acquire" there is no instrument driver available in the pull down menu. Is there something I should do in MAX ? I have the same issue with a scope TDS 7104 using Tektronix ivi driver 2.5.
    Thanks for your help.
    Rob

    Rob,
Thank you for contacting National Instruments.
It sounds like there is a problem with the installation of the instrument drivers. There is a knowledgebase that walks you through the installation of IVI drivers with SignalExpress. Also National Instruments provides instrument drivers for Tektronix TDS 7104 and Agilent Technologies 34970A.
The drivers that you have currently installed should work, but the National Instruments instrument drivers for the two devices could be more likely to install properly. Also please step through the associated knowledgebase.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if you still are having the same issue. Have a great day!
