Video conversions help!

Please help me!
I need a program to convert a WMV video file into an AVI file.
Ive been searching programs to do this, but they all cost, and I havent got any money to buy that.
So, if you know a program to do this, a weblink, source code, etc. it must not be Java, please tell me!

Alchemy would be the way to do it, but it depends on the
particulars of ffmpeg on whether it can be done. In general, if it
can be compiled with gcc without using any platform-specific
libraries, then a program should be convertible with Alchemy.
(That's not to say every conversion will be
straightforward.)

Sorry for this question. Can you use this device with Vlc or QuickTime? Does skype support it? Is this device supported only by its own software?
I need a device that can work with my own software. My software can work only with a QuickTime supported device.

Video format conversion help

My friend imported video footage from two separate "action" cameras onto his mac book. The files are labeled as .avi files. I plan to edit the videos in PE4 to create a movie. I've transferred the files to my PC, but they only play on VLC media player. Other media players only play the audio portion.
I tried importing the files into PE4 and again...only audio. I believe what I need to do is to download video conversion software and convert to a usable format (although I thought .avi was usable).
I don't want to compromise video quality. Can someone suggest a good "free" video conversion program? Are there better programs for a nominal fee?

I'm not sure how he converted those files to AVIs, tm (Macs don't use AVI natively), but my guess is that they're not DV codec AVIs. More likely Cinepak AVIs.
To see, open the videos in Windows Media Player and go to File/Properties. You'll see the codecs displayed there.
From there, you could look for a converter -- or, even better, you could ask your friend to output DV-AVIs instead. He should have that ability if he's using Final Cut or even Quicktime Pro to output those AVIs.

How can I change the default video conversion applied when I copy an AVI file from my PC to my Android HTC One M8 phone?

Here's the situation...
I have an Android HTC One M8 phone which I connect via USB cable to my PC, then I use Windows Explorer to drag and drop an AVI file from my PC onto a target folder on the phone. When I would do this after I had first purchased my phone a message box
would come up with the heading "Convert and Copy" and ask me "Do you want to convert <filename> before it's copied to your device?" and give me the options "Yes, convert and copy (recommended)" or "No, just
copy Your file will be copied, but might not play on your device."
If I chose to convert it converted the file to MP4. No problem, that's what I wanted.
The problem I now have is that after doing some work with other video applications a while ago where I was outputting WMV files I now find that the default conversion for the above described copy from PC to Android phone now converts files to WMV.
I simply want it to go back to converting video files copied to my phone as MP4, but I can't seem to find where I can set this!
It appears that the copy/conversion process in Explorer is being handled in the "Portable Devices Shell Extension" dll - WPDSHEXT.DLL
Can anyone tell me what I need to do to set the default video conversion back to MP4 ???

I actually had no clue what the core problem was caused by. So it's Windows itself...that helps some.
I'll resubmit there. It might actually have saved time for it to simply have been moved to there instead of off-topic, though I suppose you have to follow protocol.

Video Conversations with PC

I found similar questions, but I still am not clear on this topic. How can an iMac have a video conversation with people using PC's?? (Without having to pay for AOL on their side {AIM}, or having to sign up with AOL or Javver on my side).

Hi,
AIM is actually free to use for both Mac and Windows PC.
(There's no need to sign up for the AOL service). You can register for an AIM screen name on this page. Once you have registered, ignore it when it asks you do download the AIM client. Instead, configure iChat with your new screen name.
As an alernative to iChat, you could use Skype, which is a free download for Mac and PC.
Both programs have their ins and outs. I would suggest trying both to see which one works best. I hope this helps!

Compressor Simple Video Conversion

I simply want to covert QuickTime video to Real Media or Windows Media... the instructions for this are nothing but a maze of run around confusion.... "add plug-ins" that can't be found... compressor won't let me select Real Media as a choice even though Real Media shows up in the applications section.
I am extremely sorry I invested in a Mac after years of successful, simple video conversion on my old pc. I needed a new machine because my pc was getting old. My Mac experience from sales, consultation and beyond has been an absolute pain in the... kester!!!

VIDEO CONVERSION AND EDITING SOFTWARE

I have recorded lots of INTERESTING videos while working as lifeguard this summer. Most of them are just 3 minutes raw AVIs of about 100MB in size. Because my digital cam does not have any built-in compression they are huge in size. I am looking for some Video Conversion and Editing software which allows me to convert them to some other format or at least let me encode them with some nice video codecs. I would like to put them on my web site. I promise I will post a link to those video here if you guys help me out with some free or Borrowed software.

Video conversion for N8

I've been trying to convert movies for my N8. So far, I couldn't get the right conversion factors such as the resolution, bitrate, frame rate, video codec, etc.
The videos I convert work on my N8 but the size always exceeds 1GB, and the video isn't in full screen.
Does anyone here knows the best video conversion setting for the N8?

Can someone please recommend an inexpensive video conversion software package? I'm trying to convert a QTMOV to MPG or WMV for Windows users without QT installed. Any help appreciated. I'm a recent Windows convert.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Quicktime Pro ($30us) is an excellent value video tool which can handle editing, layers, transparency etc etc. It can export to a variety of formats (although not WMV for obvious reasons). I'd be tempted to wait a couple of months though as QT8 will probably be around soon and will require a new key to be bought.

Video conversation freezing randomly

Hi, I am new to Skype, & have had several video conversations successfully previous to today, where everything worked fine. Today every video call would have quite a few times where the video conversation would freeze for about 15 seconds, so neither of us would hear a whole sentence of the conversation.
I have Windows 7 on my laptop.

Transfering video file Help

I recently purchased the video ipod and planned to transfer all of my files... one problem they are not .mov... they are all windows media vido files...
How do i change them so they can play on my ipod...
When i try saving it as a .mov it tells me i must install quicktime... well i have quicktime and quicktime pro...
Or when i do save it and try to open it it denies it and tells me its not a movie file ???
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP !!!
