Video playback in Firefox 26
Hello,
Video playback on MOST websites is delayed by up to 20 seconds. Audio is always fine.
I've updated Real Player (please find a way to avoid employing RP in future versions of FF
along with Adobe!), updated all of my Add-ons and Plug-ins. I'm not running any crazy plug-ins.
I have Kaspersky Anti-Virus running and they assure me their app. is not the issue. And I'm not allowing any Kaspersky extras to run as well. ?
Ive researched the Community Forums here and outside and can find no truly viable solution.
I don't want to run IE and would rather not use Chrome, but I'm getting to the point where I will if it resolves video playback.
And I know this is not an issue of YouTube throttling bandwidth. ;)
A few years ago all video playback worked great. Now? Not so much. Too many people are experiencing this problem.
Can you offer a solution? I'm a big fan of FF and want to continue using it.
Thanks, Paul
Hello,
Your profile folder contains a user.js file, which includes preferences that were not created by Firefox.
If you haven't created it yourself in the first place or aren't sure what has created it, then the user.js file shouldn't be there at all. you can go ahead and delete the file - it won't affect your stored bookmarks or other personal data...
You can remove the file manually, as described in this article:
[[How to fix preferences that won't save]]
You might also need to disable the Flash Player plugin's use of hardware acceleration, which is an independent setting from Firefox's hardware acceleration setting. See:
* Adobe support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues

In Firefox for Android 27.0, if you play video in one tab and while it's playing you switch to another tab, the video gets paused. I want the video to continue to play while I'm viewing another tab (so I can at least hear its sound!).
How can I do that?
How can I prevent Firefox for Android from pausing video playback when switching to another tab?
Thank you very much.Hi hamid_ss,
Currently Firefox for Android does this by default with embedded players. Some sites go automatically to full screen too which may be what you are running into. Try it. -
Why is Firefox's video playback ability gettting worse and worse as time goes on?
It seems like no matter which type of video player or plugin is being used in FF, the video and interface will lag like crazy anytime you mouse over and try to use/click anything. It's really bad in YouTube, but it happens pretty much everywhere else as well.
I have tried running in SafeMode to see if any of my addons were causing the issue, but the problem persisted to an equal degree while in it.
I really do enjoy using FF more than Chrome, but you guys are making it really, really hard for me to want to stay. Even though it has been argued that Chrome is no faster, it definitely seems to be at the very least on the basis of perception. It's definitely "faster" from a smoothness and stability standpoint when talking about video playback.
The the speed difference, even if it is just perception, has not been enough to sway me from liking some features that I can get through FF's addons that I can't get with Chrome extensions. I've tried switching before, and it just isn't quite there yet for me in functionality. The weird, seemingly continual degradation is about to make me put up with whatever minor functionality may be lost in other browsers, however. I'm already at a point where I switch to Chrome anytime I watch YouTube videos, and it's getting close to be what I use for everything else.Watch this video in Firefox vs Chrome (or IE or Opera...) and notice the geometrical distortion and jerkiness (called "tearing" in video circles) that happens in Firefox but not in other browsers. Chrome is the smoothest with the fewest dropped frames. Firefox is the only one that adds this distortion (watch the rectangles closely...)

Judder in flash video playback
I'm having this weird random judder issue when viewing video playback using the flash player (e.g. youtube). The judder is very noticeable on 2d scrolling videos such as this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAdHJYUjeVo&feature=g-all-u#t=10m40s. I have gotten the judder to go away only a few times by jumping around video resolutions and using the "show video info" option. It's totally inconsistent in terms of a fix. Video info shows that it's running at 30fps and not dropping frames. I've used current versions of firefox, chrome and IE with the same results. I'm seriously baffled.
This just didn't become an issue with the current version of flash. It's been an issue across many versions of flash.
In the ways of the troubleshooting I've tried with no success:
Uninstalled and reinstalled flash.
Turned off hardware acceleration.
Disabled plugins and extensions.
Uninstalled my antivirus (avira).
Done a clean wipe and install of my video drivers.
Disabled aero.
Any ideas or suggestions would help a lot. Thanks in advance.

Bug report has been submitted.
I'm pretty sure the judder has always been there. Sometimes it's more pronounced and sometimes it's not. As I said it's very inconsistent. But 95% of the time there is judder.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling flash ver. 10.3.183.43 and unfortunately it did not fix it.
It's so weird. It really looks like it's dropping fps at random and yet flash player video info says it's fluctuating between 29-31 fps and not dropping frames.
I really don't understand how me going back and forth between resolutions and fullscreen and right clicking on the video to bring up video info will make it go away randomly. -
Video playback--mba 2010 w/mountain lion
Has anyone noticed terrible video playback on 13" 4Gb mba 2010 with the mountain lion upgrade? Youtube using flash (11.4.402.265) at 1080p is unwatchable and 720p is barely watchable at full screen. Connecting to a larger monitor is much worse. I could do all 3 when I had Lion. I'm not running any other applications at the time and used the app Free Memory to clear the RAM cache before playing a video. I've tried firefox, chrome, and safari (which I prefer), and they all had similarly poor results. I previously used html5 on lion, but those gave me choppy results and found flash to be better. Any suggestions?
I tried unchecking "enable hardware acceleration", but the results were similarly poor in safari 6 and chrome. However, while using safari 6 on youtube, I opted for the trial html5 setting and it now plays 1080p smoothly at full screen. Hopefully, this might helps others struggling with the mba 2010 processor.

Hi Everyone,
I'm new to Flash and am also experimenting with a Flash Media
Streaming Server. I am trying to get video streaming to work with
my new website, and the video so far plays great with no problems
in web browsers such as Firefox/Safari, etc.
However, in IE, the playback is noticeably worse. I can't
figure out why! I originally thought it was a streaming issue with
the server, however, this wouldn't explain why other browsers are
handling the stream better. Also, pausing the video playback and
un-pausing makes no difference, ruling out a buffering issue.
Every I.E. browser I try the below video in, the video is
jerky and not smooth. I should note also that if I try to play the
video directly through
http://flash-server.hermonsd.org/test/
(Streaming Server Test Page), it works perfectly in IE.
So I am concluding that the issue is with the compiled Flash
file used directly on the below link. I'm using nothing more though
than the provided FLVPlayback module that comes with the latest
Flash CS3 software. Does anyone know what I may be doing wrong and
what I can do to improve the playback quality in I.E.?
Example Video is here:
http://www.rihanna-online.net/videos/dontstop/DontStop.html
P.S. To avoid a possible flame post about copyright, the
website hasn't opened yet and tentative use for construction is OK
while the record label is reviewing the website to contact me
back. With weeks of research, I found the cause of the issue. It's
not related to the media streaming server.
It appears there is a known issue with the WMODE function in
Internet Explorer and Flash. When I removed the WMODE code from the
HTML pages calling the flash, the videos played flawlessly. -
Why is HD video playback quality poor?
When I play YouTube high-definition (720 or 1080) videos in Firefox in full screen mode, the play back is blurry compared to Internet Explorer; the same video, the same resolution - just a different browser. Why is this happening and what do I need to change in Firefox to get the same crisp high-definition video playback that is available in IE?
Isolate. New user (follow http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1199). Safe Boot (follow http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455). Test to see if Quicktime has the same issue by watching videos at http://www.apple.com/findouthow. Is your Flash player up to date? Visit http://www.adobe.com to check. Let us know.

Recently my Safari is not keeping up with youtube video playback anymore. Firefox on the other hand works just fine. Has anybody else had this problem, or maybe a solution even?

Video playback in Windows Media, Quicktime and in Firefox (youtube, etc.) pauses when I physically move my laptop. I've never had this happen on any other laptop. Any suggestions?
Another annoying problem is that it drops the wireless connection in my home every couple of minutes. This doesn't happen with any of the other 3 laptops I'm running so it's not my ISP or router.
Thanks for any help!666eyes wrote:

The ThinkPad Active Protection System (APS) will protect the Hard Drive when you move your ThinkPad, and this probably causing the behaviour you are observing. There are options for disabling APS for particular purposes, so you should have a look in the APS options... look in the ThinkVantage folder on your Start menu.
Regarding your WiFi issues, you need to make sure that all the relevant power managment settings for WiFi are set to Maximum Performance (or similar). This has been covered in numerous messages here already. so a few minutes with the serach function should provide you with more details.

Bill
I don't work for Lenovo -
Hi,
I've been experiencing a lot video playback freezing, I've noticed it happens on youtube. It is not my internet connection, the video freeze even it's already been downloaded. It happens with all video resolution from 360P to Full HD, I've tried all majors Internet browser: Firefox, Safari, Chrome.
I have Leopard, a 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo with 2GB of RAM.
A 250GB HD with (at least) 10GB of free space.
It shouldn't freeze for so low quality videos.
Any help?
Cheers,
-- rafaelDo you have powered speakers or headphones plugged in?
If so, try unplugging them and seeing if it will play the video.
I started having this problem right in the middle of watching a video and it would freeze playback every time I plugged in my speakers. Internet searching yielded no results, but an OS software update from 10.6.2 to 10.6.4 fixed my problem. You say you have Leopard, so I am not sure if a software update is available for you, but check under the apple menu > Software Update. If there is an update related to the operating system, install that. It worked for me! -
how are macbook users getting the internet video playback to work?
I copied files from the airbook library that were designated for flash and quickbook player. No luck. I am very disappointed. What I am reading is a blockage of Apple programming to the Adobe programming. Really?
Please provide the work around. This is extremely important to me to see videos playback in Safari, Chrome and Firefox. I am a web developer and this amazes me when a large investment has been made by Apple's client.1. System Preferences > Other/ Flash Player > Advanced > Delete All
Press the "Delete All" button
Install Adobe Flash Player.
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Follow the prompts.
Quit Safari.
Restart computer. Relaunch Safari.
2. Enable Plug-ins
Safari > Preferences > Security
Internet Plug-ins > "Allow plug-ins"
Enable it.
Press " Manage Website Settings" button for more options. -
Online video playback is severally laggy/choppy on my macbook pro 2011?
hey guys, got a bit of an issue here. I've been noticing some SEVERE lagging issues whilst viewing online (streaming) video, from various sites, including, novamov, youtube, and others. the videos rarely stop to buffer as i have a fast connection, but yet they still seem to lag wildly. what i mean by this, is the sound will continue as normal, the the picture will freeze sometimes for a good 5 seconds or so before resuming, this is happening increasingly more and more..
i am running Mac OSX Lion (latest Update) on my:
MacBook Pro
17-inch, Early 2011
Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50b)
If it helps my hard drive space is:
Macintosh HD
Capacity: 664 GB
Available: 179.79 GB
The browser i am using is the latest version of Safari, although i have tried firefox and chrome and i experience the same issue.
I have Sophos anti-virus installed and run regular scans on my system (all clear)
i really can't think of anything else which could be causing an issue here. I haven't installed any additional software for a while, not in the time frame since the error started to occur.
I am quite surprised to be experiencing such issues as lagging on something as simple as a youtube video when my £3000+ computer handles heavy applications such as Final cut pro and Photoshop with ease...
i MUST be missing something here,
I really would appreciate any help i can get here.
thankyou very much for your time
benHey Carolyn,
Worked a treat, de-jaggy video for first time in months!!! Only point of clarification, I manually deleted the Flash plug-in before I uninstalled Flash. Don't know if this was why it worked for me rather than others but hey ...
Thanks again!
Jody

Hi Ben...
I am quite surprised to be experiencing such issues as lagging on something as simple as a youtube video
Try troubleshooting the Flash plugin required for most YouTube video.
Quit all open browsers. I'm using Safari as a test.
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Storage tab. Click: Delete All
Now uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Make sure and uninstall the current plugin first.
Then launch Safari. From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
Now try a video.
BTW... if you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to: Open in 32 bit mode is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.

How do I get a picture in my iTunes video playback screen?
I recently re-uploaded my iTunes music and videos to iTunes after a crash. I now only have sound during video playback. How do I get a picture during playback?

Current Firefox versions have a built-in feature to take a screenshot as part of the Web Developer Toolbar.
*Web Developer > Developer Toolbar
A quick way to save a screenshot is to press the "s", then the F1 key will bring up a help pop-up where you can click the "screenshot" entry' or use cursor Up/Down and press the Enter key.<br />
The default file name is "Screen Shot yyyy-mm-dd at HH.MM.SS.png" in the download directory.

You will have to type options yourself because clicking an entry in the pop-up that appears after the first "-" doesn't work (to see available options, use: screenshot --). -
Flash video playback crashes one of my displays (flickering lines)
I am using a dual display setup. When I play back a Flash video in Firefox 18 one of my screens shows flickering lines and can only be reset by shutting down and restarting Windows.
If I move the Firefox window to the other screen and start playback the main screen still crashes but I can see the video itself playing fine on screen 2. So the Flash plugin didn't crash.
But it seems as if it had changed resolution and/or refresh rate to some strange value. So the picture of how the screen looks after the video playback began.

I did no recent changes to the graphics drivers but the problem started about 1-2 weeks ago.You can check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
