Video switching source causes brightness issues

Hey, all.
We're running several sources through a video switcher (Kramer VS-848), which pipes video through our capture box (MOTU V3HD) to Final Cut. It's live video, so we use Capture Now. Every time we switch video sources while recording, we get a frame or two of brightness adjustment (a nearly-white frame, then a slightly-too-bright frame, then back to normal, or a nearly-black, a very-dark, and then normal) recorded by Final Cut. This doesn't show up on any output besides Final Cut, so we're fairly certain it's not the switcher, but in the software.
Does anybody know how we can stop/control this?

Are your cameras genlocked?
I'd follow up (with my layman's pretengineering degree) by questioning the validity of using that unit as a switcher...seems more like a router to me. (even though they call it a switcher and it seems to offer solid specs).
How many and what type(s) are your video sources?
You might look into a different 'video switcher' solution, which, with a deck, could eliminate the need for the MOTU.
Then you can record live to tape, plus do a Live capture now/non-controllable device and when the program is finished, just spit it back out from an FCP timeline.
Others here should be able to offer much better technical advice, but I think we'd all need a clearer understanding of your entire workflow...exactly what hardware/format(s)/signal flow/OS/software versions...etc.

I have a 218 MB PSD file that is causing me major headaches. Any time I start up the file, dragging a single layer goes at about 2 frames per second. However, if I delete one layer or simply cut and paste a layer, the lag is fixed.
From the video:
- Deleting a hidden layer fixes the lag
- Removing one background layer fixes the lag
- Cutting and pasting any background layer onto a new layer fixes the lag...
Saving and returning to the doc causes it to lag again.
Anyone know what's going on? Photoshop Preferences:

- Happens in both 32 bit and 64 bit versions
- I have the same issue with Photoshop CC 2014.

Video Message - brightness issue which needs resol...

I am currently running Skype 6.5.0.158 and using a Microsoft LifeCam Studio webcam. When using my webcam for normal calls, or even checking the Tools -> Options -> Video Settings, then I can see my picture perfectly fine - colours are vibrant etc.
However when I use the Video Message feature I see a very dark picture. It's like the brightness has been turned down. My room has all the lights on and there is a fair bit of light coming through the window. I've tested this with a Logitech webcam (not sure of the model) which appears to work without error.
Please see attached document with examples. And yes, I know it's a Shrek soft toy and that my webcam is in mirrored mode at certain points.

I don't have that problem, but using the model before that one, I can tell you the camera settings can easily cause the issue. Microsoft Lifecams tend to have a "truecolor" option and several other "auto" settings. The best thing to try is to go into the "Video settings" - "Webcam Settings" in Skype and try toggling the settings and moving the sliders to a point where the video appears bright enough to you. I do know that the overlay software that comes with the camera does not work. You could also try 3rd party virtual camera software like "Manycam" (Manycam.com). I have used that software and selected the Manycam Virtual Camera dropdown in Skype to be able to use the overlay software and the Manycam software to add even more overlays successfully. You may also have better luck controlling the brightness in Manycam, if it doesn't seem to appear properly without it. Be aware when Manycam is running, the normal Lifecam drop-down will not work, until Manycam is closed.

Question about HP 2311xi - auto-switch source and delay wakeup from sleep

I recently purchased this monitor and noticed that when it wakes from sleep it will take about 5-10 seconds for it to wake whereas other monitors I've owned they have gone on immediately. I was just wondering if this is how this monitor is or if I have an issue with it.
Secondly, how is the auto-switch source suppose to work? I have my PC set to DVI and I have the default source set to my 360 through the HDMI connection. I would assume that when the 360 goes on it would go to the default source and switch over to the hdmi connection. However, my monitor does nothing. What does the auto-switch source actually do or is mine just defective?

Auto-switch source only works if there is no signal as it detects the port with a signal and auto switches to that port. However, the monitor has no way of knowing exactly which port the user wants when two signals are present.
Default port setting is what the monitor will look for first when being turned on and doesn't necessarily give that port override capabilities.
Taking 5-10 seconds can be normal. My third-party monitor at home generally takes about 5 seconds before displaying a signal, but this may have more to do with the HDMI connection (I haven't tested this with the VGA port). I don't believe this is a cause for concern.

Convert Video Switch in Desktop Software

What happens when I use the convert video switch in the Desktop Software when I am syncing videos to and from playbook. Having problems playing video clips tagged as AVI. Get error message on Playbook when I go to play the clips. Assuming not a true AVI or using a 3rd party codec or something along that line. Will play on computers but not the Playbook. Will the convert video switch in the Desktop Software solve the problem. Tried to use but it appeared to start to "convert" all videos in file to upload to Playbook so I cancelled. Any suggestion? Although you say you have let the battery drain, was it for long enough? Since nothing else that you've tried so far has worked, I suggest that you leave the iPod unplugged for at least four days, preferably a week. That way, if something is stopping the iPod from turning the screen on, then whatever it is will drain the battrey. However, since the screen isn't on, that may take longer than if the screen was on.
Then, after that time, plug the iPod into a power source and leave it alone for at least thirty minutes. Only after thirty minutes will it show any signs of life, but you should leave it until it is fully charged before trying to use it.
If you get to this stage, the fact that the battery has drained will cause the iPod to reset when it springs back to life.

Could the replacement of a fan on a graphics card cause OS issues?

OK I suppose it's a bonafide long shot that my replacing of an intermittently malfunctioning fan on a graphics card could cause OS issues, but I've had something immediately crop up after the replacement (crippling issues with Logic's 32-bit audio unit bridge), and they effect older projects that were previously stable, so I figured I'd ask for the heckuvit.
Repairing permissions hasn't helped - I'm just starting to ponder whether to reset PRAM, reset SMC, boot from an HD clone, try reinstalling the old fan, etc., in order to figure out the problem....
BTW - the graphics card is an Nvidia GT120.

Go out and buy an Apple ATI 5770.

Export to anything, but Video for Windows causes crash in CS4

I am running the latest update to CS4 on my PC, and while I have had no luck exporting my timeline full of MPEG-4 material to QT, H.264, etc...using the render que, I am having success choosing the Video for Windows 8-bit 4:2:2 codec. I am running the latest drivers for QT and whatnot so why does anyone think this would be? It also causes a crash using the Export function in the File tab. Thanks for your help!

Here is an update to my last post. Anyone want to chime in on what could be causing this issue while exporting to an .avi? Thanks for the help!

Windows not reconising video switcher

Running windows via bootcamp when presenting it does not reconise vga out put via a video switcher but in mac mode its ok, when going directly a into plasma or projector it works fine in both windows and mac mode, any idea's

Could be an issue with your movie being encoded with the H.264 video codec. Windows users will not be able to view H.264 video without the latest version of QuickTime 7. If you don't want to make each PC user upgrade QT7, then your alternative is to use some other video compression codec, like Sorenson or MPEG-4. These will produce video viewable pre-QT7 but at visibly lower quality and slightly bigger file size.
I have chosen to format "for the masses" and avoid H.264 for the time being for videos on my own site. Not too big of a dealbreaker for me. Check it out for yourself.

Error message is not telling which field causing the issue!

I am developing the Adobe Interactive Form and launching this form from WebDynPro ABAP application, fine.
This form has tonns of dropdown fields, mandatory fields, greyed out fields. Fine.
I am filling the list the drop-down fields from webdynpro ABAP, but, i am filling list for only 80% of the drop-down fields, rest 20 % is not filling at all (bcz, business want to have those 20% dropd-owns on the form by thinking going further they require, this moment they dont need so they dont want to fill the lists)
Now the form is launching on the browser, fine. But when user submits it i am getting the below erro:
The Entered Value Is Not on the List of Valid Values. (I am guessing this error is talking about the DROPDOWN fields only)
I hv tonns of drop-down fields, so, its very difficult for me to go and trace each and every drop-down fielld!! But, i checked all the populated/entered values in the drop-down fields, they are all fine. Sone dropd-down fields are GREYED OUT, they are defaulted from webdynpro ABAP
Pls. let me know How can know which field/drop-down is causing this issue? Wht are the possible causes for this error? Error is not telling which fields is making issue?
How can i trace and how can i fix it, pls. let me know

But, as of my knowledge every thing (case sensitive, list box entries) are fine, not sure, why am getting this error! I will double chk again.
But, thing is.... actually, i have 4 pages, depending on the logged in user, i will HIDE the pages (say, for me the 3 rd page will be hidden), i am hiding the pages by using JavaScript in the form.
So, this error is not coming if i execute/launch all the 4 pages, but, its coming if i hide any page for any user!!
By chance, do we debug to figure out which FIELD is CAUSING issue/this error?
From where this message is coming, i mean, from the SAP's JAVA stack? Wht is the message ID and #?
or is it Adobe's/Form's error?

Blackberry needs to sort out he brightness issue on the Q10 - Its very bad

Blackberry needs to release an update for its Q10 device ASAP. The device has brightness issues since it was launched. In a response to a Forum member's complaint about the screen dimness, a support staff here said that's how the device is made with no auto-brightness toggle to conserve battery. I believe customers should be given the options to turn on or off this option as they wish. Please fix this problem BB

No he doesnt have a screen problem Jason. It is the Q10 that has a screen problem. Stop misleading people here. Blackberry needs to come up with a fix. The fact that they are not even responding to peoples' concerns on the Forum shows why they will continue to suffer pooor sales.

My macbook pro keeps freezing and shutting off when I am browsing the web on Safari. How can I figure out what is causing this issue?

For the past few weeks my computer will slow down when I have been on Safari for awhile, then freeze, and then just go black. I have to press the power button and then it goes to a black screen with the apple logo and a loading bar underneath when it reboots. I'm not sure what is causing the issue, but on my previous mac it would have an error message if something like this happened that I could submit. Any suggestions of where to start to solve this issue?

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
          SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the BOOT_TIME log message that corresponds to the last boot time when you had the problem. Now clear the search box to reveal all messages. Select the ones logged before the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
For example, if the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down for three minutes before you forced a restart, post the messages timestamped within three minutes before the boot time, not after. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract—not at the beginning.
If there are long runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

In the Console window, select
          DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". A shutdown stall report has a name that ends in ".shutdownstall". Select the most recent of each, if any. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. It's possible that none of these reports exists.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

No Photo/Video switch visible after updating OS 3.0

I have iPhone 3G and updated software to OS 3.0 (recently released) but it didn't enable photo/video switch on my iphone. I can't record video right now. Can some one explain me if its compatible with old iPhone 3G or only with iPhone 3G(S).

My Ipod video switch on by itself

My Ipod video switch on by itself. Even if its locked, it turns on. It can be after 2hours or it can be after one day, it's never the same. So, when it's time for me to use it the battery is dead because it played for hours unknowingly.

Id check the alarms, even if you didn't set them it could have happend accidently.
