  • Got Display driver via Windows Update for Windows 8.1 and try to use it for Windows Server 2012 R2

    Hi Everyone,
the following driver cab is from Windows Update:
    https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=5be01620eea95d8c&id=5BE01620EEA95D8C!138&ithint=file,.cab&authkey=!APDi54-R1Ob5IWQ
    It includes this display driver:
    Intel(R) Q45/Q43 Express Chipset (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1)
My problem is: I can't install this driver on Windows Server 2012 R2.
I tried the following, nothing worked:
    a) pnputil -i -a intel.cab
    b) Extract cab, update the device's driver in device manager, select "search for driver software in this location"
    c) copy the files in system32/, system32/drivers, syswow64/ from a Windows 8.1 system to a Windows Server 2012 R2 system
Isn't it true that any Windows 8.1 driver should also work for Windows Server 2012 R2 (same os version)?
    Thanks for your replies.

  • Better Display Driver under Windows 8 than Windows 7 for MacBook Pro Retina?

Anyone happen to know if the display support for a MacBook Pro Retina is better under Windows 8 than it is under Windows 7?
Ideally, I would like to be able to run 2880x1800 at True Color as well as have the HDMI out fuction as a second display (maching the behaviour while booted under Max OS X 10.8).
Under Windows 7, the highest resolution that supports True Color is 1600x1200.  This would be okay if that setting did not distort the picture (everything is slightly squeezed).  At 2880x1800, the highest color depth is High Color (16-bit) which is, well, not something one can actually use if doing graphics work.  On my 27" iMac, 2680x1600 supports True Color as expected.
Also under Windows 7, the display connected via HDMI is not recognized.
I've contected both Apple care support and Microsoft support about this, but Apple referred me to Microsoft and Microsoft referrred me back to Apple.
    Thanks,
    Warren
P.S. Personally, I think it's rediculous to even attempt to do graphics work under Windows, but tell that to the Windwows based corporate world that I freelance in.

Yes, there is a better display driver for the MacBook Pro Retina while running Windows 7 Pro.
And, the answer is so obvious, that I feel a little silly having started this thread in the first place!
The Windows 7 Professional NVIDIA drivers for the NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M card need to be installed manually by downloading them from NVIDIA directly.
If you need to do this on your MBPr Boot Camp volume, use this link:
    http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
Then, set the pop-up menus based on your MBPr. [Mine were as follows: GeForce; GeForce 600M Series (Notbooks); GeForce GT 650M; Windows 7 64-bit: English (US)]
What tipped me off to this is that the CUDA drivers need to be downloaded manually on the Mac OS X side to take full advantage of raytracing in Adobe After Effects CS6 and CC.  As soon as I started to run that installer it dawned on me, "Hey, you probably need to install the drivers on the Boot Camp side as well."  And sure enough after doing so, I am able select all of the expected resolutions as well as run 2880 x 1800 at Millions of Colors (32-bit).
I guess I'm showing my nearly three decades worth of being a Mac user where I'm accustomed to having about everything needed included with the OS.

  • No "super drive" under windows bootcamp

Windows 7, when running in Bootcamp won't register the optcal drive on my iMac 24".
I rarely use Windows via Bootcamp but when I did recently I found that it was not recognising the CD in the drive.  Windows 'Disk Management' saw the Drive but said 'No media' and it was impossible to eject the (non-existent) disk without a reboot.  This was the case with disks intended for both Windows (e.g. Half Life game) and Mac (Install disk2).  The Windows disk was readable under OS X.  Both were readable on my Windows laptop.
Is this a recurring problem with Bootcamp?  And Windows 7?  iMac superdrives?  Is it possible to sort it out from either the Mac interface or that of Windows?

    Hi Gottalight,
I've been having this problem for the past year and a half. Only recently I have found (but not a fool-proof) method of getting the super drive in bootcamp windows 7 32bit on the iMac to work.
Since my mac is an iMac 24" from late 2009, I assume this might help you.
Please note these are not "steps" but rather variables I tried that might have done something along the way.
    Variable One:
I disabled UAC in my Windows preferences, by going to:
Control Panel > User Accounts > Change User Settings > Set slider to "Never Notify". This in a sense, gives one almost full administrative control. However, please be aware that since this opens up your computer to 3rd party applications writing to your HD without your consent, that safe computer practices should be used.
    Variable Two:
Inserted the Snow Leopard (retail) DVD. The disc that holds the Bootcamp drivers. Nothing showed up, of course. However, it did not eject the disc either, which is usually the case.
    Variable Three:
Installed Windows 7 SP1 (it was long overdue), and restarted. I also had the Snow leopard disc in the super drive at the time of the restarting.
Low and behold, when the computer was done with it's restart process, and the updates were complete, I was able to access the contents of discs in the super drive.
I don't doubt this is a fluke situation, but if you're able to reproduce the solution, please let me know, so I can try and figure out which variable it is. I have a hunch it has to do with UAC, as they often interfere with the most basic of my tasks (running 3rd party apps etc.)
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers

  • Mac doesn't boot after splitting BOOTCAMP drive under Windows 8.1

Macbook pro mid 2012, OS X Mavericks
I've installed Windows 8.1 x64 using Bootcamp assistant. In Windows I went to Disk Management and shrank drive C: from 200 GB to 94 GB and created a new drive D: from unallocated space.
After restart Windows doesn't boot giving some error and quickly restart. If I hold "Option" key I see only Windows. Mac OS X disappeared.
    How to fix?

So, I've tried 1001 ways to recover. Nothing worked. Interned Recovery gives -2002F error. Macbook pro 2012 can't boot from bootable DVD to use DiskWarrior, Drive Genius or similar. It can't boot from OS X Lion install DVD. I had only Windows PC to fix this. So
I asked a friend with latest Mavericks(which I had too) to make a Recovery USB and make a DMG file from it and send me over internet. Then I used the TransMac application under Windows and burned DMG on my USB stick. My god it worked. After 2 days of struggle I found this solution. I was able to boot from this USB stick into Recovery Mode and from there I can reinstall Mac Os X Mavericks. Somehow it sees my Ethernet cable and doesn't give error.
Note: that Disk Utility wasn't able to recover partitions. I tried to run DiskWarrior from terminal but it gave me an error. TestDisk didn't run too. So I'm doing a clean installation.
I could recover or backup my files using Paragon Mac Recovery Bootable DVD, but there was no need since it's my new macbook and I didn't have much files there.
Windows had changed the HD partition map from GUID Partition Table(GPD) to MBR. And made HD a "dynamic disk". This is why Mac Os wasn't able to boot.
If anyone knows how to convert a disk back to GPD and make Mac OS able to boot please let me know. I'm still installing Mac Os X on USB stick and didn't change my HD.

  • Can not install VXI-MXI-2 driver under Windows XP

I have a new IBM IntelliStation M Pro PC with Windows XP Pro (but only Service Pack 1) that is having a hard time getting the VXI-MXI-2 PCI driver installed. It reports: "There was a problem installing this hardware: PCI-MXI-2 This device cannot start. (Code 10)".
Taking a look at some issues raised on the "Troubleshooting PCI-GPIB, PCI-DAQ, PCI-MXI-2, PCI-IMAQ Installation Problems" page, I have dealt with the following:
    1) "PCI Bus Mastering" - originally this was turned off for both PCI slots.  I have turned both slots on, but no change.
    2) PCI slots - I have tried the card in both PCI slots in this machine.
    3) "More that one PCI bridge (very rare)" - my system reports two other PCI bridges: one for the SCSI interface to my hard drive and another for use of the 1394 port. Could this be the issue and what would be needed to fix it?
    Thanks!

    NI-VXI 3.3.1 installs an older version of NI-VISA (2.6, I believe)
which sometimes has problems with newer systems and results in this
"Code 10."  Installing the latest version of NI-VISA (currently
    3.5) should fix the problem.

  • Dolby Advanced Audio driver and Windows 10 for G505

I have just installed Windows 10 to my laptop (G505) and continue to get an error message relating to the Dolby Advanced Audio driver. There are several other similar threads but I can't see an entry that helps me with my model. Is there any action I can take to complete a repair?

I have also continued to work on this problem, without success.  I did notice something I will pass along in case it is useful to someone else.  I noticed that there are Conexant drivers listed in Device Manager in both AUDIO and in SOUND, video, etc.  After installing the suggested update, the Driver version in Audio was updated, but not the one under Sound.  I tried having the computer automatically update the one in Sound, but it is still driver version 8.66.4.50.  (Meanwhile, the Audio version is 10.0.10240.16384.) Please note that I am doing this on a G580, not a G505.   I guess my question is, should the driver versions match--or at least be close?

  • TX2000 missing Coprocessor driver under Windows 7 RTM

I have installed Windows 7 RTM on my HP TX2000 and all ran smoothly with the exception of a missing "coprocessor" driver. I have done quite a bit of searching and found several posts that seem to indicate I need to install one of the Vista 64 drivers manually. I have downloaded, extracted, then tried each of the driver sets but Device Manager reports there is no compatible driver found.
Is there a new driver for Windows 7? Is there another driver I can use?

  • Dolby Advanced Audio driver and Windows 10 for G480

So I've recently upgraded to Win 10. I have no problems so far except for the sound. The Dolby Advanced Audio software seems to be not working. Any suggestions?

  • How to recover my SSD from simple drive under windows

    hello,
it starts when i used the bootcamp to partition my 256GB SSD to install windows in my MBA, the target is to have iOS & WIndows7 each in separate partition of course + 3rd partition for my data.
so everything went all right until i get to Windows manager>driver manager then shrink the windows partition, this done successfully, and the new Unknown partition appears, accidentally i converted it to a simple Drive, this converted all the SSD to simple drive.
later once MBA reboots, Mac and Recovery partitions are not there, they disappear.
    the question is
    1. either how to roll this activity back?
    2. or, how to recover my MBA to factory defaults?

How old is your Mac Air? If it is one of the late 2011 models or a 2012 model then you can use Internet Recovery to Re-Partition the drive as ONE Partition. You need to do that to clear out all the problems you now have.
To use the Internet Recovery system you hold down either Command+r keys or Command+Option+r keys at startup and hold them down until you see a Spinning Globe in the certer of the screen.
If Command+r doesn't work then you use the Command+Option+r keys. One or the other will get you to the internet Recovery system.
Right when you used Windows to repartition the Windows partition it screwed up your whole system. You CAN NOT do that, Ever. Once you create a Boot Camp partition to install Windows in you have to Leave it Alone and there is no other way to install Windows on a Mac that also runs OS X.
There is NO way to FIX your system other then to completely wipe the drive be Re-Partitioning the drive as one partition and starting over with the install of OS X, Programs and personal files.
Sorry but I thought I made that clear in my first post.
If your system did not originally come with Lion installed and is older then a 2011 model then you will need to dust off the Original System Discs that came with your system and start with those as systems older then 2011 models can not use Internet Recovery.
You can only have One Partition for Windows, the one you originally create with the Boot Camp Assistant program.
You can have multiple partitions made by OS X and one of those could be formatted FAT so both Windows and OS X can use it.
But with only a 256GB drive you are going to run out of space someplace, on OS X or Windows, and even more so if you again partition the drive to include a third partition.

  • Accessing files on external TimeMachine drive under Windows XP

Ok here is what I know: after installing MacDrive7 and enabling "backup/file transfer" file view I can see the folders of my TimeMachine drive on my Windows XP PC.
BUT it almost impossible to access these files due to the crazy archiving structure of TimeMachine. I have got the feeling, that there is no way around this issue. I hope I'm not right! It would be nice if Apple could address this serious issue in further TimeMachine releases.
    Cheers

TM is a bunch of hard links (aliases that get you the actual file), unlike regular aliases, or Windows shortcuts. You DO NOT want this fixed. It's what makes TM so great. Windows may not be up to it yet.

  • Network drive on windows

I'm running the latest Adobe Elements (Photoshop and Premiere) and having a PITA using the Elements Organizer.  I store my photos from several devices on a network.  I have a 1 TB Western Digital USB drive connected to my old trusty Linksys E3000 router.  This drive is "mapped" as a local drive under Windows on four different computers in my house.  They all run a version of Windows from XP to Windows 7, but every host can "see" and read the mapped drive.  Elements "looses it" all the time when I try to do virtually anything with the photos archived on that drive.  Microsoft versions of Explorer have no problems referencing the files either as a "mapped" local drive or as a "network" drive if I reference it that way.  Adobe elements "hangs up" all the time when I try to do virtually anything that involves my photo archive out on that drive.  I bought the drive so I could keep all my photos under my own network and keep them at the originating device's densest resolution.  It works for that, but Elements is about as useless at "tits on a bull" when I try to use my photo index to do anything other than look at stuff that has been laboriously imported.  Every time I import photos from my phone, which I do directly to the drive, I should be able to tell Elements to "watch" the folder on S:\...photos\Dan's Phone, but... no joy.  Google's Picasa 3 which is "free" does not seem to have the same problems with this drive or folder references..
I've been tolerating this PITA since Release 10 of Photoshop Elements hoping for a technical solution to be identified and fixed, largely because I don't really use Elements that much, but I'm sick of paying for software upgrades that do not work.
I'm a retired software implementation "Geek" who learned FORTRAN and assembly code on my first computer in 1961 when FORTRAN compiled in 18K of 32 bit words on the IBM1620 via a two pass card based compiler.  I've dealt with every generation of software development since, and I've worked with a lot of good products and some terrible ones over the years.  I'm well aware of the oddities of my own network which is certified at 1000mbps, but which has a lot of slower devices on it.  I used to run Apple OS, UNIX, OS/2 and Windows computers on earlier versions of my network and did a lot of software testing and development work for clients until I retired.  I hate to say it, but this problem has got me in "DEBUG" mode.  There must be a problem Elements Organizer is not handling as it should, I suspect a "network timeout" trigger somewhere, or the software which is supposed to "watch" a particular folder which refuses to remember its' pointers to the "Mapped" drive like the one I mentioned above.
What questions come to mind?  Are there any "work around" approaches that are relatively efficient I could try?  Right now I do all my archive management work at the file system level rather than using Elements features because they are so slow and flaky.  Once I get a photo in my index, I should not have to go out to the file system to get it, move it to a local drive, and re-add it to my index before I can work on it.  I currently put selected files in a work folder and use a separate tiny organizer index when I get serious about working on something in particular, but frankly I bought the Organizer so that I would not have to do all this ****!

I am afraid the sad truth is that the organizer is not meant to work satisfactorily with network drives. I have yet to see testimonies of successful implementations.
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Storing_the_catalog
I am not a network specialist like you, but it's highly unlikely that Adobe wants the organizer to work with shared catalogs.
If you look at the same problem with Lightroom, you get this:
Lightroom: Multi-User / Multi Computer (Shared catalog on a network)
Adobe is just promoting the use of Revel as a sharing system.
The only way to share catalogs and images supported by Adobe for Elements is to store them on an external drive you plug in alternatively to the different computers.

  • U330p touchpad too few options under Windows

    Hey,
I bought my u330p some days ago and can't get my touchpad correctly working under Windows.
The problem that I have is that I want to use a 2-Finger tap as right-click and a 3-finger tap as middle click. I'm using the Elantech driver from the driver site from lenovo, but I had to manually select Elantech because the installer would do nothing.
    So I had to go to C:/drivers/Touchpad Driver(Synaptics, Elan)/ELAN
    and then install that.
The problem with these drivers is that there is no option for 2-finger tap or 3-finger tap, only clicking.
I'm using Windows 8.1, I also tried the driver under Windows 7 same result.
Then I installed Ubuntu and that worked without a manual driver download. So Is there a way to get the touchpad working like I want it to under Windows? Because there kinda has to be when linux dev's got it working.

I already tried that but sadly it doesn't work. Weirdly enough it isn't even the right driver, because in the device manager it shows as Microsoft PS/2 mouse, but when the driver is correctly installed it should show Lenovo pointing device.
After all that experimenting with my drivers, I can't get back to a working touchpad... Now not even 2 finger scroll works.
Edit: I kinda know why scrolling with 2 fingers doesn't work anymore. The Driver-Software has a yellow triangle with a !
And if I go into the Elan tab under Mouse the device doesn't show up. Has anyone a idea how to atleast go back to where I was?
I tried uninstalling the driver/ or using a earlier version, not the actual Software but the driver itself in the device manager.
