View link refresh issue in a ADF Faces application
ADF BC, ADF Faces, JDeveloper 10.1.3.3
There is an example.
I have an Entity SaleEntity and two view objects: SalesView (based on the SaleEntity) and ProductsView (read only). SaleEntity has an attribute productId to reference a product sold. SalesView and ProductsView are related by a view link. The link works fine in a Business Component Browser.
Then I created a ADF Faces form to edit a sale. I used an af:selectInputText component for a productId:
<af:selectInputText
value="#{bindings.ProductId.inputValue}"
label="#{bindings.ProductId.label}"
required="true"
columns="6"
action="dialog:ProductSearch"
autoSubmit="true"
valueChangeListener="#{CreateSaleBean.productId_valueChanged}"
tip="#{bindings.ProductsViewName.inputValue}">
<af:validator binding="#{bindings.ProductId.validator}"/>
</af:selectInputText>
{code}
User can enter productId directly or select a product from a LOV. I set a tip attribute of af:selectInputText to display a name of the current product. The tip uses ProductsView through the view link between SalesView and ProductsView. valueChangeListener is used here to make tip update right after partial form submit:
{code:java}
public void productId_valueChanged(ValueChangeEvent valueChangeEvent) {
String prodId = (String) valueChangeEvent.getNewValue();
JSFUtils.setExpressionValue("#{bindings.ProductId.inputValue}", prodId);
getIteratorBinding("SalesViewIterator").refresh(DCExecutableBindingDef.RC_REFRESH);
getIteratorBinding("ProductsView").refresh(DCExecutableBindingDef.RC_REFRESH);
{code}
SaleEntity has a productId attribute validator to ensure that id of existing product was specified. The validator is implemented in the same way as ADF Developer Guide chapter "9.6.2 Implementing an Efficient Existence Check" describes.
All this works fine when user enters correct productId - the new value is submitted and the tip is updated. But if user enters non existing productId - the tip doesn't change. It seems that detail view row currency doesn't change in that case. I want to make the tip empty when the provided productId is incorrect. Any ideas how to achieve this?
Thanks,
Marius
Blaise,
no I don't want to insert new product. I want make products view object have no current row.
In addition product existence check code is in a sale entity. I don't think it is a good idea to have an entity object depending to some specific view object. Maybe I'm in the wrong.

What about security in adf faces application ?
It seem that the documentation has a little bit changed about security for adf faces application.
SRDemo J2EE sample application only implemented the security at the web container and may be for the session beans (don't remember) by using security-role and security-constraint in web.xml configuration file.
It seem that the documentation recommand now to implement adf security and didn't find anymore the reference to the standard j2ee security implementation.
We found also that the security constraints checked by the web container was sometimes ignored and the container didn't ask us to login before displaying a page.
Is ADF security a clear Oracle recommandation for ADF Faces application ?
What about j2ee security for this type of application (why it is not recommended to use it) ?Hi,
there is no single recommedation about security because security ideally is applied on several levels to implement security in depth. Container managed security with J2EE is a good option to secure page access and - if using EJB - to propagate the user identity for method level access control.
Using ADF Security, which is security added to the binding layer based on JAAS, a second layer of the security onion becomes available that allows you to define which user is allowed to perform which operation on an iterator or attribute binding. This goes beyond of what container managed security can do for you.
The thrid layer is business layer security and eventually database security.
For Oracle Open World we will have a developmengt track and one of the presentation I am giving with Ric Smith from our team is about end-to-end application security for ADF Faces, ADF, ADF BCor TopLink/EJB and the Oracle database.
The plan is to also write this up in a paper, but this would come late because of other priorities I have on my plate. So attending OOW probably is the best option for you to get the big picture

How to minimize Client-Server Round-trip in ADF Faces application ?
Hi All,
We have just finished POC on our prototype of ADF Faces + ADF BC application. The POC Emphasizes on Bandwidth requirement.
After receing the result from the communication provider, including : TCP packets send, Bytes sent from/to server and number of Client-Server Round-Trip.
There are several part of the application that Must be tuned for the application to run on acceptable performance.
Here is some page/ function that should be tuned :
- First page, ADF Read Only Table with two images and some buttons, cause 5 round-trip
- ADF Dialog Returning Value (as LOV), cause 4 Round-trips
- On ADF Form, press Commit button, cause 3 Round-trips.
So the question is :
1) How to reduce round-trips on ADF Faces application ?
2) How to minimize the bytes send from / To server on a specific user action ?
Please give me some recommendation..
Thank you very much,
xtantoHi Frank and Steve,
Thank you for your reply.
Yes Frank, what I mean by Round-Trip is the traffic between Client and the Server. And Yes, we will use VSAT where the latency is 1 - 1.5 second, so that round-trip matters significantly.
What I will do is :
- use minimal skin and No image at all
- don't use Dialog for LOV because it requires AutoSubmit there.
- Use 'Apply-Changes' button to do server-side validation before Commit.
Then do the POC / testing again.
Thank you,
xtanto -
Graphs and Charts in ADF Faces Applications
Has anyone had luck implementing graphs and charts in an ADF Faces application?
I experimented with Oracle's BI Bean control a while back. But I think Oracle has yet to provide support for BI Beans in JDev 10.1.3. Does anyone know what Oracle's plans are for BI Bean support in JDev? Or what Oracle's plans are for providing ADF Faces graph and chart controls? It would make sense to me since Oracle has much experience with graph and chart controls and to their credit has developed over 100 ADF Faces controls which comprise one of the richest JSF implementations available.
I also looked briefly at JFreeChart for which open source is provided at apache.org and I believe someone had even taken a shot at encapsulating JFreeChart into JSF controls and posting the source at apache.org. Has anyone had experience with this?Bill, why not directly giving you a solution -there is alot of work going on in adding charting and graph support for future release of Jdeveloper....of course, that does not stop you using some graphing and charting features now but the new added features make the charting side of things much more drag and drop.

Passing parameters between portletized ADF Faces applications, possible?
Hello,
In the developer guide, section 4.5.3 (http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32110_01/webcenter.1013/b31074/jpsdg_pages.htm#CHDGGCGE) it says that you can synchronize portlets using an ADF Faces component value. However, that example do not use a value coming from a real portlet, the parameter come from a selectOneChoice define in the container page.
Is there a way to achieve the same thing but with the selectOneChoice being placed in the WSRP 2.0 portlet? Basically the communication scheme is WSRP 2.0 to WSRP 2.0 which is something possible using URL parameters. However, the problem with JSF components is that they pass their values through a JavaScript launched POST submit so the values are never added to the URL and even worst, you cannot be sure of the generated parameter name as it depends on the context in which the component exists (mainly the presence of a parent NamingContainer) and the only way to know that parameter name for sure is to have a way to call component.getClientId(facesContext) which is impossible for the portlet container and therefore for the other portlets.
To put it shortly, is there a way to send a navigation parameter from a portletized ADF Faces application to its container page beside using goButton and goLink (we need to keep the action/actionListener functionality)?
Regards,
Simon LessardCan someone explain how to assign a value to a parameter in JSF like in the ParameterFormPortlet source code? Something in replacement of this :
if (viewMode)
// Set the new parameter values. These will be intepreted by the
// container as navigational parameters as the names match the names of
// the declared parameters.
actionResponse.setRenderParameter(PARAMETER1, param1);
actionResponse.setRenderParameter(PARAMETER2, param2);
actionResponse.setRenderParameter(PARAMETER3, param3);
}I mean, how to replace setRenderParameter to achieve the same thing inside a JSF binding bean for example. Is it possible via the PortletContext?
Thanks in advance for any hint.

Refresh Issue in Oracle ADF In JDeveloper
Hi all,
My ADF Application is having around 350 Forms. Application size is 700MB. I am facing a refresh issue in this application. whenever i am modifying any queries in view objects or lookups it is not reflecting immediately. Say : i modified one query. Then i deployed the application means the query is taking the old query. to take the modified query i have to rebuilt the view object. Every time i am facing this same problem. Some times within 2-3 deployments the query is modified by itself(without rebuild) and working fine. Sometime after 10 times also it is taking the old query only. Every time i have to rebuilt to fix this issue. Please help me to fix this issue. I am using oralce 11g.Try to invoke Clean All Operation before you deploy the application.
From Main Menu -- >Build --> Clean All -
View Link Editor Issue - empty query clause if based on association
JDeveloper 10.1.2
Setup:
- entities A and B
- a 1 to * association from entity A to entity B (A_B_association)
- a view of A based on entity A (AView)
- a view of B based on entity B (BView)
- BView has an expert mode query
Create a view link from table A to table B:
- choose the A_B_association under AView for the source attribute
- choose the A_B_association under BView for the destination attribute
- click add
- click next
issue: the query clause is empty
- click next:
info dialog pops up;
title = "Business Components"
message = "Restoring the default where clause."
Note, however, that creating a view link based on the attributes works. That is, if I choose the primary key attribute under AView for the source attribute, and the corresponding foreign key attribute under BView for the destination attribute, then the wizard generates the expected query clause.
If I create a new project and recreate the entities, the views, and the association, then I can successfully create a view link based on the association. The foreignKey value on the association end was different in the new association XML file. I modifed the old XML file so that it used the same foreignKey element, but that did not seem to work.
I am guessing that this is some sort of user error on my part or that we have otherwise managed to squat up our XML files.
Any tips, hints, or ideas appreciated.
Thanks,
SteveThe problem is in AView.
We had modified the AView at one point, then reverted it to a default view of entity A. Here, "a default view" means that we undid our custom changes (apparently not thoroughly enough); that is, we did not delete it and create a default view from scratch using the contextual menu on the A entity.
The bottom line is that the AView attributes were not being mapped to the entity -- they were showing up as calculated attributes.
We created a "New Default View Object..." from the contextual menu of entity A, then manually corrected the AView.xml file to solve the problem. -
Visited Link - Refresh Issue?
Here's the scenario:
The CSS link styles are designed to show a: link {blue} and
a: visited {purple}.
A user clicks a hyperlink from the home page. Upon clicking
the IE Back button, the link displays the appropriate visited
purple color on the home page.
All is well at this point.
However, with the home page displaying the aforementioned
visited link in purple, when the user clicks anywhere on the home
page, the visited link returns to its original blue.
This is just one click. You could click in some white space
on the home page, and the visited link "refreshes" to its original
state.
I have seen this issue with my HTML / CSS projects as well as
many other instances on the Web.
My goal is to have the visited link stay purple much like
what occurs when using Google to surf the Net all day long.
Please help as I have researched this issue now for two days
on the Net and cannot find the appropriate answer and
solution.Post a link to the page, please.
By the way, it's a:link, not a: link (no space).

Sorting column issue in Oracle ADF faces
hey guys
anybody know how I can sort on an object but display a property
for example, a person object implements comparable and its sort is determined by SSN
however, when displaying the person, I want to display Last name instead.
<af:column sortable="true" sortProperty="person"
id="docTypeCode" width="5%" headerText="Document Type">
<af:outputText value="#{record.person.lastName}" />
</af:column>
I couldn't get this work for me.
The only alternative I could find is to override the toString () function but this is not possible since this code is legacy and has a cascading impact on other aspects of the application.
any help would be apperciated.Hi,
not that I am aware of. However, since ADF Faces is nothing else than JavaServer Facse UI components you can Google for such a parser. If you find one you will be able to use it with ADF Faces too.
Frank
Ps.: Maybe APEX (Application Express) is the better technology for you to use. Its PLSQL based and knows how to create Ajax style applications out of the database. -

Build and Extend an ADF Faces Application (ADFDialogFwk-does not compile)
Has anyone upgraded the "ADFDialogFwk" application to work with Jdeveloper 10.1.3 Early Access 1 ?
It requires a specific version of ADF Faces ea17 to be downloaded from oracle... of course as of today this version is upgraded to ea19 when you check for updates
maybe this is the problem with my Jdeveloper..
Did you try to compile it with Jdev 10.1.3 AE ?

Not viewing links/coding issue
I used iweb08 to design a website. It always displayed fine in any web browser (ie safari or explorer etc) and a Mac or a PC could view it. When I upgraded to iweb09 only PCs seem to be able to view the links on top of the home page and Macs cannot view the links on the homepage and therefore can't move around the site.
I contacted the domain company (Hostess) and they gave me the following advice:
"The problem you are having is a coding issue. You'll have to either consult the makers of the program (Apple iLife'09) or a web developer to find the best way to resolve this issue. Different browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari) use different methods of displaying content and depending how the content is coded, you can run into problems like this where it shows up in one browser but not another."
This would make sense to me if the PC couldn't see the links, but I don't understand why a Mac cannot view a page made on iweb and browsing in safari!
If anyone has any advice I would be more than grateful.After talking to www.hostess.com.au again the problem was suddenly fixed, although they still claimed it was a "coding issue".

Portletizing ADF Faces - Portlet Unavailable - Is there a Working Sample?
Hi,
It seems I have run into a similar issue as some people before me. I have watched all samples, read all relevant forum threads and yet I cannot solve my problem.
I have created a very simple ADF Faces applications that uses DataBinding - it displays records from a database table in an af:table component based on ADF BC. I have created the page, added the Portlet Faces Bridge library to the project, created the portlet.xml, copied and pasted and configured the Portlet.xml contents for my Portlet. Deployment is to a local yet standalone WebCenter containing OC4J instance. Note: deploying to the preconfigured OC4J also did not work.
When I register the Portletproducer, consume the portlet in an otherwise empty JSF page and run that page, I get the Portlet Unavailable message in the page. The error log is shown below.
I am wondering where to go from here, what can I try to analyze? And also: is there a working sample available for download of an ADF Faces based portlet that can successfully be consumed by an application?

LucasHello
I am trying to portlize an hello world ADF application but am unable to do so because of the situation describe below. I have tried all the options given on this post but nothing seems to resolve the issue.
I have followed the instructions of portelizing at http://download-east.oracle.com/otndocs/tech/webcenter/files/owcs_10132_bridge_viewlet.html
A simple portlets without AFD works fine in oc4h or webcenter or jboss, but when I include ADF in the project then none of the application server or the container works
I am using jdeveloper 10.1.3.2.0 and the embedded webcenter oc4j for this test
I have two projects
1) ui where the ADF appplication is and
2) test1 where the producer is registered and is tested
In ui I have a simple jsp page untitled1.jsp with just one adf component (ADF Command Link)
Here is the source of untitled1.jsp

I have already registered a producer called[b] ADFFacesDemoProducer in test1 project with 300 sec as timeout. Now when I run the test1.jsp page in oc4j container I get the following error. I have tried all the options in this forum and nothing worked.
