View the baseline grid

The keyboard shortcut for viewing the baseline grid does not work in the CS5 Mac version. I can see the baseline grid by going through the menus but it would be so convenient just to press some keys as I am supposed to be able to. This must be a bug. I can view the document grid easily enought, either by going through menus or by using the keyboard shortcut (command + ').

When I type an apostrophe I do get an apostrophe. I have tried changing my language and keyboard settings to American - that really ought to work with InDesign but it still doesn't work. As I said, I can view the document grid easily enough. The only difference with the baseline grid is that you have to hold down the alt key as well. Why that should disrupt everything I don't know.

    Hi everyone.
    I'm placing a MS Word docx (default style formatting, images pasted inline with the text, each on a separate line) into an InDesign document with a baseline grid.
    The document places without any difficulty, except that the images are piled on top of each other. I can see tht the image is being placed on its own line on the baseline grid, so technically it's being positioned properly, but I need the text to Jump Object or  Wrap Around Bounding Box. When I change any image from No Text Wrap to one of the aforementioned, nothing happens. The bottom portion of the image remains inserted and aligned to the baseline grid.
    How do I get the text to Jump Object or Wrap Around Bounding Box when using the baseline grid?

    Ah, I seem to have found a solution to the problem. Not sure if it is the best or most efficient, but it seems to work:
    1. Create new paragraph style.
    2. Set Basic Character Format Leading to Auto.
    Then, rather than select the image as I was doing, position the cursor in the respective line hosting the inline image, and apply the new paragraph style.
    That caused the text to have the Jump Object appearance.

  • Change the height of a paragraph break while using a 12pt baseline grid

    Hey all,
    I am laying out a newsletter – and I want to tighten up the layout a bit. Currently the body text is 9pt on 12pt leading as the baseline grid is 12pt. I think the gap between the paragraphs is too much, and I want to reduce the height.(This will save me some space!)  (See image)
    One solution although it's not really practical is to manually change the leading of the paragraph break to 4pt which reduces the gap to the desired size. But this is a longish newsletter and that would be a nightmare... (Hopefully this example gives you an idea of what I am looking to do)
    Another thing I tried was to take out the paragraph breaks and put a 1mm space after each paragraph. This works, until there is a different amount of paragraphs in a column causing the overall column lengths to be different heights. Not ideal.
    I don't really know what to call what I am looking for – so if anyone has any ideas for this, that would be great.

    Yeah so I do usually use Space Before or Space After values – but on a baseline grid I am getting uneven columns if I have say 3 paragraphs in one column, and 4 in the other.
    But that's a good point – expecting the baseline grid to absorb the difference in paragraph spacings isn't realistic. I guess I will just have to enjoy large gaps between paragraphs!

  • Using baseline grid and "space after" for paragraph formatting

    I'm using InDesign CC on a MacBook Pro Retina. I'm designing a document and want to use a baseline grid to align text. I also want to use the "space after" option in defining a paragraph style. I'm using 10 point type on 15 point leading. The "space after" is defined as 7.5 points.
    If I try apply both the baseline grid alignment and the "space after" specification, I essentially lose my defined 7.5 pt "space after" to a much larger space because the first line of the next paragraph sinks to the baseline grid line below it. I end up essentially with 22.5 pt instead of 7.5 pt.
    Are these two functions incompatible or is there a way around this that I don't know about?

    There's no way around it. Best is to calculate your various leading,
    space before, and space after values to make sure everything falls on a
    baseline. That way you avoid having to rely on "Align to baseline." You
    may also want to turn on "skip by leading" in Preferences>Composition if
    you've got graphics with text wrap in them.

    Doo you mena the documetn grid? That has squares, the basline grid is just horizontal lines.
    Both are set in the preferences under  Grids.

  • Why are keywords not being shown in the Browser Grid View

    Hi,
    All the tutorials and manuals seem to have screenshots showing the browser grid view images with keywords at the bottom of the image. Now matter what i try i cannot get them to show up. Here are some of the things I've tried/observed.
    - in the split view and viewer views the keywords show up as expected
    - used the "browser metadata overlays" option (bottom right) to switch the browser between "show metadata" and "switch to basic view"
    - used the "browser metadata overlays" edit option to confirm that both basic and standard overlays/views are configured to show keywords (ie. keyword is in the list on the right)
    - i can see labels (red, green etc) in the browser grid view
    - quit, deleted all my library preferences, restarted aperture
    Are you seeing keywords in the browser view? Any ideas what i'm doing wrong?
    Also note I imported my library from iPhoto.

    Hi thank youve tried editing all the basic and extended metadata options and so far i have managed to get the key words to show up on one photo at a time with a colour label.
    To do this i have to go to the metadata tab on the left add a custom field to the general tab called it keywords to keep things simple lol.
    This is the only way of getting my keyword to appear below the photo
    However when i try and tag all the photos in the project with the same keyword and label it only tags the last one in the project ive held down cmd /option /ctrl nothing / some of these just tag one random picture with the metadata

  • Is there a way view the internal lines of perspective grid?

    It would be very beneficial to view all of the internal lines of the sectioned rectangular prism that the perspective grid consists of. This is a standard workflow for drawing 3 dimensional objects. Without this, it is very difficult to draw accurately.

    This doesn't appear possible to in CS5. Please specify if this is not the case and if it is possible in CS6.

    Do you mean doing this?
    You have toi use the proxy to select the different planes and shift key if you are drawing to that plane but on the grid's base in this case the top of the cube.

    Concise problem statement:
    View changes to grid when expanding a collection in the left pane.
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Goto Library Module
    2. Ensure there is a collection with at least one child - if not create one.
    3. Make sure the collection is collapsed (you cant see the child and you see a right pointing triangle to the left of the collection name)
    4. Change to Loupe view
    5. Click the right pointing triangle next to the parent collection you just created to expand it.
    Actual Results:
    View changes to grid
    Expected results:
    View should remain unchanged - in this case Loupe view.

    The first is that I can't view the aperture library anymore directly from iphoto.
    THat is exceeding strange since iPhoto '08 could not open or share an Aperture library - that ability was first introduced in iPhoto '11 - with the latest version of iPhoto and or Aperture you can open the same library with either application - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5043
    In the current version of iPhoto the photos are sorted by date in the film strip - I've not recently done a calendar so do not remember the specifics -

    is it possible to set personal thumbnails in the 3x3 grid/ new tab view? E.g. I doN't want the current facebook page to be shown as a thumbnail but a big blue facebook-logo.

    Right click the editor and choose
    "Prompt For Substitution Variables".
    Run for example the following code:
    DECLARE
    PROCEDURE p (cur OUT sys_refcursor)
    AS
    BEGIN
    OPEN cur FOR
    SELECT *
    FROM DUAL;
    END p;
    BEGIN
    p (:cur);
    END;
    The result will display in Toad's Data Grid!

    (assuming you have relatively recent version of TOAD).
    Write a small block to call the procedure (or use Toad's 'execute procedure' option) as in the example below. Note the ':' in front of 'v_cur_out'. When you run the block, TOAD will prompt you for a value / datatype for 'v_cur_out'. Ignore the value, set the datatype to 'Cursor' and click OK. The resultset (if any) will be displayed in the Data Grid window below.

    this scenario is work in the case of abap list viewer (instead of microsoft excel)
    for this i use one button in the pf-status (UPDATE).
    after made changes in grid data i export those modified data to abap memory and download to another internal table..
    how can i get the same scenario in micosoft excel

    Back up all data.

    I'm running a 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 with 2GB 1333 MHz DDR3 memory system with iCal version 7.0. In month view, the entries sometimes stack on top of each other garbling the image, rather than listing down the day. I am beginning to miss appointments and this is frustrating. I have quit calendar and restarted several times.

    Whenever installing a new version, at least review the information about new features.
    Turn off the infernal Align To Pixel Grid feature.
