Viewing backed-up contacts with no phone

Unfortunately I had my 6230 stolen at the weekend. So far I don't have a replacement but I need to make some calls.
I backed up the complete phone in december and can see the .nfb file but for some reason I cannot seem to browse it to look at the contacts.
I'm using PC Suite 6.82.22.0 and Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2.

Ok, I'm assuming due to the lack of replies that this can't be done - I've looked everywhere and find no reference to being able to browse your backups.
Eventually I opened the .nfb file in notepad, located the contacts and imported them into excel and then manipulated them to give me an alphabetical list.
I do have to say that I'm now very disillusioned by nokia. Why isn't this included in PC Suite, so you can only back up your phone if you're going to replace it with a nokia? I think I'll try another manufacturer, one who takes my data more seriously. And before you ask we don't use outlook so synchronising isn't an option.

Can't sync contacts with Blackberry phone after migration to iCloud. The only way to do is to have a local copy of address book. What else can I do (before BB will fix the bug)?

Ah! This explains why I have been tearing my hair out for the past 24 hours trying to get my contacts from Address Book to my new BB Torch!
I found a workaround for a one-time sync:
1. go into Address Book prefs and temporarily change Default account from iCloud to On My Mac (this makes the "All on My Mac" category visible)
2. Go back into your contacts window, select all of your contacts, and copy them to All on My Mac (this will create duplicates of everything)
3. Sync the BB.
3. Return to prefs to change default account back to iCloud, and select all the contacts in All on My Mac and delete them, thereby removing all duplicates.
This solution only works for a one-time sync and needs to be repeated for future syncs.
Let's hope BB comes up with an iCloud compatible update ASAP!

Problem viewing videos I recorded with the phone

When trying to view videos I recorded with the phone, It gives me a message saying it is impossible to view this multimedia file format!
It has been recorded with the phone and it can't watch it on the phone!? It doesn't recognize its own recording format

If the format is in 3GP you can view it with a player called VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/), or can try a video conversion program to convert it into a format your computer can read. Once such program can be found here http://www.avs4you.com/AVS-Video-Converter.aspx

How do I back up contacts in my phone

Hi,
Everytime I try to back up contacts from my iphone or ipad it asks me if I want to merge with 142 other contacts and modify several others that are not actually in my current contact list. I removed all the contacts from the windows file and manually typed all the contacts from my yahoo mail so they match. But now I still can't get the 2 updated so they match and everytime I sync the phone or ipad it still wants to add a ton of others that are not needed. I wouldn't care so much if I didn't want to lose my contacts...again but I would like it to modify new contacts and keep a back up of what is actually on my phone and yahoo mail.
Anyone know how to do this?

I use a PC for itunes - I don't have a Mac. But the application I think is Windows and the contacts are maintained in that file when backed up on the hard-drive. But I removed all of those and placed them in another folder someplace else - as back up (so I don't lose them again) so that folder is empty but it still wants to place all contacts available in on all of our devices. I used the cloud for my contacts and now it has groups split out will all and then just mine. I can't get away from the merged files. I just want my own set and his set. I update and change my contacts but if I ever need to retore it I won't be able to because I can never back it up on the computer, it will revise and modify then combine all of our contacts.
I had to re-do our contact lists manually about 6 times now, in all devices too. I just edit and replace/delete so we each have our own but I wish it could update changes made in my phone only. If I don't remember to edit my Gmail or Yahoo contacts those will never be updated with the phone either.
Any help would be appreciated! Thank you so much!

Accessing backed up contacts for two phones

I have multiple phones on my account, but can access the backed up contacts only for one of the phones. I read another thread that said you have to setup a separate account for each line to do this, but how can you setup a separate account for multiple phones on the same account? Trying to register a second time with the other line specified doesn't work because the number is seen as belonging to the same account.
I can't believe Verizon would have prevented this from being done.

As Ann154 said, you need to log out of the master account completely to set up (register) each line for it's own account. Separate browsers or even computers will work too, if you have those options. The initial setup of each line is a bit of a hassle, but once each line IS set up on it's own account, with it's own password, Backup Assistant will work properly for each phone.
Having separate accounts also allows you to purchase (if you are so inclined) ringtones and ringback tones for each line, and gives you access to cloud storage for each line separate from the others.

Help with multiple contacts with multiple phone numbers

I'm fairly new to the iPhone so thanks in advance for any help with this issue.
I have contact list with records for a lot of people (300+), each with several phone numbers each, home, mobile & work, etc, .I can't seem to find a way to have the iPhone announce the name & number or name & type (home,mobile,work) of the caller from the contact list, my old cell phone could do that easily.
At the moment what I've been doing as a work around for a few (important) people is to create a custom ringtone for that caller & that phone number. Since it also seems there's no way to attach a different ringtones to each number in a single contact record I've had to create multiple contact records for each person, each with a different name/number combination such as "John Doe Work", "John Doe Home" or John Doe Mobile" then assign to it the custom ringtone I created for that name/number.
I need to this so that if I receive a call while I'm driving (or whatever) that I can't answer right then for some reason (often happens), the ringtone I created for that name & number helpfully lets me know who & where their calling from. It's very important to know where someone is calling from, if someone's calling from home then I know I've got some time, but if their calling from work then I need to get back to them quickly.
This is a real pain!, having to make multiple contacts & ringtones for a every person with multiple numbers is a extraordinary waste of time. My old cell phone could do this with no problem but there doesn't seem to be any way to do this with my new iphone. Am I missing something here? I am new to the iPhone so if there’s a solution to this that I’ve missed I'd very much appreciate the assistance.

Is there any application that can synch mac thunderbird contacts with Android phone?

I am running OS X 10.9.2 with Thunderbird 24.4.0. Android phone is a Galaxy Nexus with Android 4.2.1. I have been search long and hard for a app that will allow me to synch Thunderbird contacts on the phone. None work so far.

Multiple contacts with same phone number

I have multiple contacts with the same phone number. Skype will not permit the creation of a second contact with the same phone number.

I have the same problem with my contacts.
I have one external phone number and then use extensions for their desks. I want to embed the extension number in the contact name and use the common phone number.

Does Outlook also backup all contacts with just phone numbers?

Obviously not every contact is going to have an email, but for some reason in outlook I can only pull up the ones with emails.

Contacts on your iPhone are included with your iPhone's backup, which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the sync process. There is no other backup function available for iPhone contacts.
Contacts are designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer. With Windoze, this can be with Outlook 2003 or 2007 along with syncing calendar events, or with Windows Contacts for syncing contacts only.

You'd need a contact application that supported creating contact groups, then you could select what groups/group to sync to each phone.

Does anyone know how to recover deleted contacts? For some reason contacts with only phone numbers have been deleted the rest of my contacts are there. It appears that I only have the contacts on my phone that i have on my laptop.

Does anyone know how to recover contacts that have been gone missing or have been deleted somehow. The contacts that are missing are the ones where I only had phone numbers (no email address). The ones where I have both phone numbers and email addresses are ok. They are the same ones I have on my laptop. I dont know what I did to cause the ones with phone number only to disappear.

I know the importance of saving and updating your contacts. What type of phone do you have? If you are using Backup Assistant, you have the ability to sync the contacts between your laptop and phone. You will also be able to see if all your contacts are stored on the online portion of the application versus the phone itself. The contacts should be the same for both online and the phone.

Add contact with Android phone difficult, N900 muc...

Hi guys, I was so frustrated from waiting for a replacement for N900, I went & bought an Android phone the Motorola Milestone 3 Droid 3, but was greatly disappointed with it's contact features, it's much worse than N900.
I still love my old N900 so didn't trade it in, once I found out the N950 wasn't going to be accessible.

you need a Framework like Phonegap to access the device contacts database. Just have a look at this documentation. Supported platforms of this example are Android, iOS and BlackBerry WebWorks. SAPUI5 is not a framework for accessing functionality of mobile devices (like camera, notifications etc.)
Besides, there are some blog posts in this forum, which explains the handling of SAPUI5 and Phonegap e.g.: Building awesome mobile apps with SAPUI5 and PhoneGap.

Troubleshooting a start up script can be difficult. There are some third party programs that also keep logs of start up programs, however for Firefox this may be different.

Its also possible to check the Web developer tools for any scripts in a page: [https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Tools/Debugger]
In the control panel there is also Administrative tools to view event logs, but this may be something a local technician can walk you through.

N900 mixes contacts with similar phone numbers

Two of my family members have nearly identical phone numbers. This seems to confuse my N900 to no end - at times, when person A calls, it gets put into the call log as person B, and so on. Very annoying when you miss a call from either one: You can never be sure which one called you. Any ideas how to fix this / will it be fixed in the next update?

if the numbers have come from a different/your previous phone make sure they're not linked, my last boss had an older nokia (can't remember which) but he would have a contact called 'work' then within that contact he had all the staff phone numbers that he needed stored to it but each number could have its own tag/name - similar to contact groups but when he upgraded and tried to transfer the contacts it only sent the numbers which didn't have a tag i.e. 'work' had the company's phone numbers only and not all the staff numbers but when he stored my number seperatly it caused the problem you're having even tho the 'work' contact didn't list my number so he had to manually add some numbers where he had had the conflicts

Background - a few weeks ago I received help on the forum in connection with my modem re-booting, usually in the early morning. I got in touch with Bt Customer support who helped by getting the noise level back down but I still suffered from re-booting, consequent increases in snr and lower speeds. I switched from the HH3 to a Billion bipac 7700n router. This was a vast improvement. No more re-booting but occasional re-syncs instead - at least the snr and DSL speed stayed roughly at the same level. I did however want to eliminate the 4-5 re-syncs per day - a nuisance if you are trying to use the PC or streaming music when the connection drops. Customer support advised me to test the router in the BT test socket. Alas, when I looked inside my BT master socket I found that I hadn't got a test socket. Bt Customer support splendidly arranged for a BT engineer to come the next day to fit a test socket. This was just before Xmas.
With Xmas over, guests having gone and continuing to suffer from re-syncing, I connected the router directly to the new BT test socket. In the space of 9 hours there were 4 re-syncs.
I e-mailed Bt customer support an extract from the router's systems log to seek their help. Within minutes I had a call from an operator in BT India who put me through to their technical desk. Unfortunately the technical desk did not have my e-mail and did not seem very interested in the background to my issue. After an hour in the phone I spoke to a supervisor who explained that he could not take my problem further until I had tried a new HH3.
Well the HH3 turned up today. On connection my snr went up to 10db and the DSL speed down from 6656 kbps to 4344 kbps. Needless to say I have disconnected the HH3.
I should add that the BT engineer who fitted the new master socket said that in his view I needed a Broadband boost engineer and that he would put this in his report.
Advice on how to get back in contact with Uk based support would be welcome. I had been making good progress!
