Viewing JPG files

I can't see JPG files emailed to me from a Windows computer. When I download them it comes out black and when I copy them to iPhoto they are visible, but with the wrong colors. Why is this? Is there a plug in or something I have to download?

Importing the pictures to iPhoto is the only way that I can even see the picture in color (albeit the wrong colors). When I just download the picture off an attachment, it comes out almost completely black.

Cannot view jpg files in full page mode. Contents of jpg files are enlarged so that it requires 4 pages to print one page.

When people send me jpg files that contain a page of information, I cannot view the file in full page mode. I can only view 1 quadrant of the page at a time. If I print the jpg file, it uses 4 pieces of paper (1 quadrant per page). Others who receive this file can view it fine.

There is an option for the Initial View that is "Magnification:" "Fit Page". And this works for the initial page when the PDF is opened and it does not matter what the page size it, Acrobat/Reader will automatically fill the screen with the page. If you want the zoom type to change with each page then you need add a page open script to each page to set the pages zoom type to "zoomtype.fitP"

Unable to Open / View JPG files on Andriod devices

Much the same issue as a previous post in 2014 without an answer (apologies to previous messager). I'm hopeful that someone has solved the issue and can provide a solution.
I can’t seem to display photos from my Android Phones (Samsung Galaxy S5 running lollipop or Motorola.) I able to access the WD My Cloud directory via my home Wi-Fi as well as well as through the WD website. When I go to a directory with photos, it populates with a blank thumbnail photos next to each JPG file…when I go to display a photo, I’ll see either a pulsating circle or a loading bar (that gradually fills) with the phrase “Opening”. This phase either never ends or once the loading bar completely fills, it just disappears…...and No Photo or sometime says "No access to file". I have opened up Video AVI / MP4 and MP3 files without an issue on the Andriod devices. The files have been there for months so shouldnt be a database issue. I have an iPad and this does not seem to have an issue displaying these files. Everything populates and displays…very quickly. Any advice.

You don't indicate which app is having the problem, WD My Cloud for Adroid and or the WD Photo for Android. Both apps will open JPG files on my Motorola Droid Mini and Nexus 7 Android devices. The images open up in some sort of WD picture app included with either app. Perhaps you should uninstall the app, then reinstall one or both of them from the Google Play Store and see if the problem persists.

Using slide show to view jpg files.

I am very new to Encore DVD 2.0 but I have just been given the task by our company to produce a slide show that is capable of projecting architectural drawings using a DVD player connected to an LCD overhead projector. I have managed to convert all drawings into jpg format and have managed to produce a very professional project. All works well except that the quality of the drawings are very poor and blurred. The images are all 1600 x 1280 res. When viewing the images via any windows viewer the quality is excellent. Can any one help me please in fixing this quality issue. Using a standard windows viewer with the projector is fine as well. Its the playback quality of the DVD that is poor. Oh and the Encore preview also gives poor quality.

The DVD size specification is...
NTSC: 720x480 or 720x486 (or 704x480)
PAL: 720x576 (or 704x576)
NOTE that 704-wide is "less good" per a recent message
in that it may (will?) need to be re-transcoded by Encore
You might do better to scale your pictures outside Encore

JPG is a compressed format, and depending on the exact settings you used, Encore must transcode the file to be used
You might want to convert to PSD or TIF
But, again, I have not used Encore for a slideshow so these general comments MAY be off base

Windows Picture.. is NOT one of the Applications "choices" under Options/Applications. Why not?

Preview doesn't show JPG files

I keep having problems viewing JPG files in Preview. The image displays in the Finder, it displays in the thumbnail view for 'Downloads" and it will even appear in the sidebar for Preview if I choose to show the sidebar, but it does not appear in the Preview main window.
I tried deleting the com.apple.Preview.plist file as recommended in an old thread, but it didn't help.

iew is on again. This works on all of my catalogues.

Cannot view .jpgs created in QuickTime in other apps

Used the Movie to Picture feature to create still shots from one of my movies. While I can view the files in QuickTime, I cannot see them in any other app that typically views .jpg files.
Any ideas???

Open the QT control panel and un-select what you don't want QT to handle. If that doesn't work. Open the Folder Options control panel in XP OS and go to the File Types tab and change what application you want the file type to be handled with

Opening jpg files on BB

I am able to receive and view jpg files on my BB Curve. But I forwarded the jpg as an attachment to a friend that has the same BB Curve I have and he does get the Open Attachment option to view the jpg. Is there a setting change I need to check on his BB ?

Brian, either your friend has an older version of the OS that doesn't support .jpg attachments (that would be a real antique if this is the case), or his message is being routed to his BlackBerry through Desktop Redirector (software running on his company computer). Desktop Redirector no longer supports attachments.
If he has a newer unit, and is using it with a corporate BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES), it may indicate a policy setting on the server.

How can I quickly view pdf files like I can do with Windows Picture and Fax viewer for jpg files? I need to look at several thousand PDF files. It takes too long to open each one individually. The only thing I could think of is combining them into large groups and then using the Navigation index. But I like the way windows Picture and Fax Viewer does it because you can keep the files separate. Combining PDFs causes loss of individual file names. That would be a problem since I do need to have the individual file names.

Windows Picture and Fax Viewer is a DLL and is started via a rundll32.exe call and can't be set as an application to handle images in Firefox 3 and later versions.
Try to set Windows Picture and Fax Viewer as the default viewer in Windows, then it should be listed automatically in the Mozilla Firefox Browse dialog.

View Master mode strange behaviour with jpg files

Hy all,
I'm using Aperture, and I'm tweakin a lot the SW to discover all secrets ....
I'm really concerned about a strange behaviour of the SW in view mode.
If I open a jpg file, do not apply ANY modification, and apply the "show master" command (pressing M), there's a subtle behaviour :
*the images get sharper !!!!*
It behaves as if an "edge sharpening" was applied !!!!!!
With _RAW files this thing doesn't happen at all._
Even stranger, if I zoom to full definition (by pressing Z), and toggle between normal view and "show master" view, the immage remains the same !
The effect is not so evident with all images, but sometimes it is !!
Anyway, I expect not to have such kind of things with a professional SW.
With professional cameras and good quality files it's really annoying not to beeing sure what's the REAL content of the jpg image.
Has anyone noted this thing ? Is there a reasonable explanation ?
The only one I tried to figure out is the following : may be Aperture applies some kind of resampling algorithm with jpg files (bicubic, bilinear, etc).
May be this resampling is not applied with 100% magnification, as weel as with raw files.
But it's only my guessing. Now, I'm tweaking other viewers and other SW to understand what's the real jpg image stored in the file : the blurer one form normal view or the sharper one with "show master" mode.
I stress once again : of course, the jpg file I'm talking about have no settings at all, just imported and toggled with M button.

I'm afraid I'm not been clear.
The problem is this :
1) jpg image opened in normal view mode, no zoom, (no quick preview, of course) : image with a certain amount of blour
2) jpg image opened in show master mode, no zoom, (no quick previre, of course) : image SHARPER with respect with the previous.
No edit applied from import, so "show master" command shouln't apply any change in rendering, should it ?
The only thing I said on 100% view is that such difference (between normal mode e show mastermode) is not present with 100% magnification.
That was the issue.

Should I restore these file type associations to QuickTime?" Options are " Yes, No or Do not ask to perform yhis check again. QuickTime Control Panel can be used to make subsequent changes."

LR4 How to view RAW+JPG files?

Hello --
I have been wondering about this for quite some time. I know there is the option to "treat jpg as seperate files" in the library, but i feel it clutters up the library so i tend to avoid this. However, if i treat them as the same, the JPG does get saved into the hard-drives directories, but it isn't visible at all in LR. I understand that this is by design, but what is the point of it then, if there is no way for me to look at the jpg (e.g. for comparison).
so my question: is there a way to see the jpg file, unless i treat it as a seperate file (and hence de facto duplicate the number of images in my library)? what i am looking for, is occasionally being able to view that jpg that has been saved to the directory.

i agree with you and understand your point. my problem is that the auto-stacking doesn;t seem to work all the time properly, and i would have in that case to manually go through a rather large set. i am wondering if i may just be best off importing the files as the same and not seperate since this will ensure that the jpg's are at least archived. if i then need to look for one, i can always somehow grab it out of the catalogue. not exactly ideal, but may be adobe eventually will make it easier to access the jpg....

Color Cast Only On Mac Generated jpg files When Viewed In Bridge Cs3 Preview

Hi,
( Issue With Cs3 Bridge Viewing Jpgs - Getting Colour Cast on the Mac Generated Jpgs Files Only When Viewed In Bridge Cs3 On PC )
Using CS3 creative suite Mac & PC and viewing all files on the PC.
We have psd files when viewing in bridge they are ok and save jpgs via PS3 both on the Mac & PC off the same PSD file that we started with.
But when viewing these jpg files in bridge we get a red cast only when viewing from the Mac generated files from the same PSD we started with.
When we open the jpg files up in Photoshop all of them are ok we no issues only when viewing in bridge we get the red cast.
All PSD files have the same information content:
Bit depth
Colour space
Pixel size
Why are we getting this happening.

Thanks very much for that lead, NormanPCN. I do have Auto Tone checked, though the rendered files in the example above do not have XMP sidecars. I will try unchecking Auto Tone even so, and post back when I see what happens.

EDIT: Bingo! I took Auto Tone off in ACR Preferences (in Bridge) and the non-RAW files immediately regenerated thumbs and previews. They now are indistinguishable from the PSD. There is still the very slight difference which I mentioned between the PSD and the CR2. While that seems odd, it is small enough to be relatively trivial.

Doug, this is a user to user forum so you get advice here from other users just like yourself.
AFAIK LR will show the embedded jpeg until it renders its own preview after that there is no way to get it to show the embedded jpeg.
When you are importing photos into LR in the import dialog box there is an option to show a preview of the embedded jpeg while the import is actually taking place.
Also this is the regular LR user to user forum and there is a link to the LR 2.0 Beta forum at the top of this forum. Maybe its best to post your question there.
