I recently installed oracle 10g 10.2.0.1 in rhel5. when i checked the crs_stat -t all the vip applications was online. but after some time an hour, it went offline; Even the ons is showing offline. please help,

i am wondering why the vip goes offline sometimes and comes online on restarting
Gateway iam using was 192.168.0.254 for eth0 and eth1 on both nodes
pls help
I also tried removing the servername from the loopback ip 127.0.0.1 prod1 localhost.localdomain localhost and tried to restart the nodeapps uing
srvctl start nodeapps -n prod1 and then prod2, but still getting placement errors

Your Node1 VIP was migrated to Node2 due to a failure of some kind. The VIP does not always come back automatically:

CSS VIP Issues (Source Group with 'add destination service')

I have a pair of Cisco CSS 11503 boxes with a ap-kal-pinglist applied to both virtual routers, as a Critical Service, on the Primary CSS. When a link goes down, the VRRP fails over all traffic to the Secondary, as expected, but there is an issue with two particular VIPs. These VIPs have Source Groups configured, like below:

Once a failover occurs, the VIPs are unreachable via a browser. I have also seen 1 VIP OK and 1 VIP not, but never both working. At times, when I failback to the Primary, the VIPs are OK again. The services are reachable via a browser during this issue.
any ideas?

You need to check if during the failover the css sends a G-ARP to inform that the arp associated with the nat ip address now belongs to the secondary css.
Get sniffer trace during failver and check if this g-arp is sent.
If not, this is a bug and you need to report it.
If yes, then the problem is not the CSS but another device on the path...did the switch correctly learned the new path ? Does the server have the correct arp table ?

RH Linux VIP configuration not working for Oracle 10g RAC installation

Hi all,
I am trying to setup my test cluster on Oracle 10gR2 and Red Hat Linux 4. I have the public and private networks working fine and setup. However, after I setup the two VIP addresses, I cannot even ping these two virtual IPs from Linux. CRS install fails during initial run because it cannot communicate with the two VIP IP addresses. Can anyone help me out as to how to go about fixing the two VIPs so that Linux can ping them and CRS will install?

It sounds like you configured your VIP on Linux in advance, before installing Oracle.
You are not supposed to do that.
Decide on an IP that the VIP will use with your network manager, but don't configure it in Linux. So before you start the clusterware install, ifconfig should not show your VIP.
CRS does not need VIP when you install the clusterware, only the interconnect address.
VIP is configured using a utility called VIPCA. If Clusterware installation fails and you think it was caused by VIP issues, try running VIPCA manually and let us know what were the results.

Issue in installing Oracle !! root.sh giving problem

I am trying to install Oracle RAC on Linux and I am facing one issue at root.sh.
Introduction to hardware: H/W :- Intel Xeon Dual core CPU 2.0 GHz x 2 Nos / 4 GB RAM /6 NIC with
3 bond(0,1,2) / 2 FC port to access SAN /SWAP =8 GB
SAN = EMC CX3-80 SAN Storage
Space required by dbms server is 1 TB and it is access by shared storage with
171 GB * 6 and for OCR and voting disk 10 GB is separately access from
Storage.
OS: RHEL4 64bit
I used following process:
--> check all RPM which is pre-required for installing oracle RAC
We done following things
(1) Create oinstall group (groupadd -g 700 oinstall)
(2) Create dba group (groupadd -g 701 dba)
(3) Oracle user add (useradd -u 700 -g oinstall -G dba oracle
(4) Check kernel settings as per required by oracle and set it (sysctl.conf)
(5) Create partition for OCR and vote disk by fdisk command
fdisk /dev/mapper/mpath5
create primary 256MB x 2 (OCR)
create primary 256MB x 1 (VOTE)
create logical 256MB x 2 (VOTE)
and binding with raw devices
/dev/raw/raw1 /dev/mapper/mpath5p1
/dev/raw/raw2 /dev/mapper/mpath5p2....
(6) Make proper permission for the OCR and vote disk
chown rootinstall /dev/raw/raw[1-2]
chown oracleinstall /dev/raw/raw[3-5]
chmod 640 /dev/raw/raw[1-2]
chmod 640 /dev/raw/raw[3-5]
(7) create ORACLE_BASE and ORACLE_HOME directory for Oracle cluster installation

(12) Run ./runinstall from clusterware directory
(13) After finishing instillation it ask about to run orainsRoot.sh from both
node and root.sh from both node
(above settings done in both node)
orainsroot.sh --> run success fully in all nodes
root.sh --> gives error "failed to upgrade Oracle Cluster Registry"
and my installation stops installing and gives error

Hi,
The VIP related messages might not exactly be the problem ..
Have you looked at the following files which might prove to be more useful in diagnosing the failed root.sh issue
a) The OS Messages files from around the time of the root.sh unsuccessful run
b) Any files under the TEMP directory .. Usually name /tmp/crsctl*
c) The crsd / ocssd log file located under the $ORA_CRS_HOME/log/<nodename>/cssd/ocssd.*
$ORA_CRS_HOME/log/<nodename>/crsd/ocssd.*
d) Any OCR files under the directory
$ORA_CRS_HOME/log/<nodename>/client/
All these would have to checked from the timeframe of when the root.sh was
run .. This should give us a better idea of the problem ..
For the VIP issue , you might want to check : Note:338924.1 on Metalink ..
Basically cluvfy makes an assumption that certain classes of addresses are non-routable and hence if these are used for VIP's or Public IP's , you would get that message reported.

Cluster Installation failure on AIX 6.1

Hi All,
One of my customers is facing an issue with the RAC installation.
The issue is being observed as soon as the setup is done and while running the root.sh which tries to bring up the services configure.
Post which we are not even able to bring up the same manually or using VIPCA.
Details:
A status check on nodeapp is resulting the below.
./srvctl status nodeapps -n lpar1
VIP is not running on node: lpar1
GSD is running on node: lpar1
PRKO-2016 : Error in checking condition of listener on node: lpar1
ONS daemon is running on node: lpar1
Please let me know any thoughts on the same.

That error got corrected but he hit a new error.
This time its this error :
./srvctl start nodeapps -n lpar1
Lpar1:ora.lpar1.vip:Invalid parameters, or failed to bring up VIP (host=lpar1)
CRS-1006: No more members to consider
CRS-0215: Could not start resource 'ora.lpar1.vip'.
My guess was that there is something wrong with the etc/hosts which is causing this vip issue:

Error while installing OEM agent

Below is my environment details.
Oracle - 10.2.0.4.0
Linux - RHEL5 - 2.6.18-128.1.6.el5
Two node RAC environment
I am following my company documents for installing OEM agent.
I executed the below command
agendDownload.linux_x64 -n <cluster_name> -c nodename1-vip,nodename2-vip
I got below error
Performing tests to see whether nodes nodename1-vip,nodename2-vip are available
SEVERE:OUI-25023:The local node is not selected for installing this product. Include the local node in the cluster list or perform the installation on the nodes on which the install is to be performed.
Can somebody help me why I got error. i pinged both the vips and am able to ping.
i have another doubt. Do i need to mention vip name or just host name?

I checked the inventory.xml file
Only hostnames (not VIP) are mentioned in the inventory.xml file. That means, do i need to mention only host names?
Since I am following the company standard document, I need to be 100% sure before deviating from the document or else taking this vip issue to the document authors.

In our lab 11gR2 RAC setup is up and running (11.2.0.1). Last night due to some issue with power or power failure servers went down directly.
When restart the RAC server, all the RAC related services are up and running except second node VIP is offline and database was down.
When I go for database startup through srvctl command it gives ora-00600 internal error.
ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [kcratr_nab_less_than_odr], [1], [2692], [912], [913], [], [], [], [], [], [], []
From metalink (ID 1296264.1) I come to know there was a power failure causing logical corruption in controlfile.
From metalink doc having steps for single instance but not sure how to follow the same steps in cluster environment.
Is any body ever face the similar issue in RAC environment? Is this only second node VIP issue ?

Conceptually you have one database, and one set of control files, accessed from multiple instances.
If the issue would have been with online redo logs (there is one thread of redo log files per instance), instance would have mattered.
Now it doesn't matter, as there is one set of control files per database, not per instance.

First, select sender(s) as VIPs. Then the VIP category will appear.
To select a sender as a VIP, open an email from that sender, then hover over their name and a star icon will appear to the left. Click the star, and that sender will be set as a VIP (and the category will appear in the pane on the left).

Having an issue with vpn load balancing certificate on the vip

Hi all,
I am setting up vpn load balancing in a lab. I have two asa's running 8.6. I created a ucc cert from our internal CA that has the vip as the CN in the cert and the two ASA's themselves as subject alternative names. I used open ssl to create the request. In each asa I am using encryption between the ASA's to encrypt the psk's. Since this is a lab and I do not have the DNS servers at my disposal I've added the hostnames and addresses of each ASA to the config in the ASA's. The problem I have is that when I connect to the vip I get a cert error saying the cert doesn't match the name on the site. See below:
"The security certificate presented by this website was issued for a different website's address."
I have a hostfile on my lab pc connected directly to the outside of the ASA that can resolve the name of the vip but when I browse to the vip I get the cert error. If I click proceed anyway the asa redirects me and the page opens without error on one of the two ASA's.
Does any one know what the CN of the cert should be for vpn load balancing. I thought the CN would be the vip but sometinhg is not right.

Viper Remote Start Issues 2012 Chrysler 300

I had a Viper remote start installed in my 2012 Chrysler 300. The price and installation went great. Scott at the Best Buy in Novi, MI is great. My issue is that yesterday (12/12/14) when you start the car with or without the remote start there is a thumping noise inside the dash towards the passenger side. It sounds like something is spinning and thumping on something. It will do this for 45-60 seconds then stop.
The remote start still works and it does not affect anything else. I'm going to call the store this week but I wanted to see if this has come up before.

weird, yeah unfortunately without seeing the vehicle and running through some troubleshooting, there is an infinite number of possibilities that could be wrong. If it is doing that only on remote start i would say that there is a problem, but since it is doing it with the key also, it is more than likely nothing with the remote start or the installation. You can definately take it into the local bby for further diagnosis, but once the tech sees that it isn't anything with the remote start then he will send you to a dealership or someone who can fix that issue. Sorry i couldn't be more help, but bring it back into the shop for a diagnosis, and if it out of our hands then the tech will send you off to another person to get it fixed. best of luck!

Exchange 2013 Outlook Anywhere connection issues when using F5 VIP

Hello,
We are in the process of deploying Exchange 2013 into our Exchange 2010 Org. We are using an F5 to load balance all services. We are doing some initial testing and have not cut over autodiscover or other URLs yet to 2013. We are using host files
on the local testing machines to point the URLs to 2013. OWA, Activesync, ecp work with no issue through the F5 VIP. However, we are having issues with Outlook. If our host file entries point to a single server, Outlook functions
normally. If the host file entries point to the F5 VIP, it keeps prompting for creds and will never connect.
Just wondering if anybody has run into this or has any guidance as far as OA and F5 deployment.

Please check your Load Balance configuration and make sure the namespace used for Load Balance has been included in the Exchange certificate. For example: mail.domain.com and autodiscover.domain.com.

VIP address issues

Could you please help with the following?
If I have defined 2 VIP addresses and each of the VIP address has the same set of real servers then will there be a problem. This is specific to DNS servers.

There might be an issue.
For UDP traffic you have to configure a group to nat the server response back into the vip address.
If the servers are the same for both vip, on the way back to the client the CSS will not know which vip address to use - a server can only be in one group at a time.
A solution could be to do client nat. This might force the CSS to remember the vip address on the way back. Not sure as I did not try it.

Weired issue odd IP's can ping the VIP and even can't on the Nexus 9K switch.

Hello experts!
we have two nexus 9k core, attached to the HP Blade v7000 chasis and VPC configured. All Vlans are HSRP are configured. VPC is configured successfully. But the weird this is that source IP address 10.1.2.3 can ping the dest VIP (on the loadblanacer) but 10.1.2.4 can't ie all odd IP's can ping the vip and even IP's can't ping and this is happening in all other Vlans. No firewall no security applience ... windows firewalls are turned off, no ACL's on the swtiches. If I shut down the interface on nexus 1 then all IP's can ping the VIP, as soon as I unshut the interface then .4 stops pinging, and if I shutdown the interface on nexus 2 then all IP's can ping. 10 gig links are connected to Flex fabric card and vpc port channel is up. Any thoughts or help ?
