VIPCA fails

When I install CRS on AIX 5L with HACMP (concurrent mode), I have a problem when run root.sh script on node 2: " The given interface "en4" is not public.
Public interface should be used to configure virtual IPs".
Now, I read Oracle Cookbook and follow it, run ./vipca manual as root on node 1.
In " Configuration Assistant Progess Dialog" screen, I had this error:
CRS-0215: Could not start resource "ora.sbdata01.gsd".
I have checked on Metalink but I can't fix this problem. Can you help me ?
Thanks,

See Metalink Note:276434.1
Maby that will help you solve your problem
Good luck

  • Vipca: Exception in thread "main"

I am trying to install oracle clusterware
I reached the point where I had to run root.sh on both the servers (one by one).
root.sh on 1st server went smoothly.
I commeted out the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL from vipca.
I ran root.sh on 2nd node, but it threw standard error for vipca.
Then I ran vipca on 2nd node from root user from outside as a standard procedure, on completion of root.sh on 2nd node.
I am getting the following error:
    *[root@rac2 bin]# ./vipca*
*Exception in thread "main" [root@rac2 bin]#*
I did set DISPLAY variable and my xclock works fine too.
    Please help me out.
    Thanks..

  • Asm does not start on node2

I am trying to build a oracle rac as a test environment at home
    I have three desktops
    a) node1
    b) node2
    c) openfiler
I am using Jeffrey hunter's website for instructions on Oracle Rac 10g install using openfiler for iscsi
    node1,node2 is configured for 10.2.0.1
When I do the create database with dbca I am getting a message
unable to start asm on node2
The change that I made in the install is as follows
node 1 has two network cards eth0-100 mbps - public ip address and eth1-1Gbit private ip address
node 2 has two network cards eth1-100 mbps - public ip address and eth0- 1gbit private ip address
when linux install was done it automatically assignmed eth0 to the 1gb nic card on node 2
Do you think that this is the issue ?
I post below some part of the asm alert log of node2
    LICENSE_SESSIONS_WARNING = 0
Interface type 1 eth1 192.168.2.0 configured from OCR for use as a cluster interconnect
WARNING 192.168.2.0 could not be translated to a network address error 1
Interface type 1 eth0 192.168.1.0 configured from OCR for use as a public interface
WARNING: No cluster interconnect has been specified. Depending on
the communication driver configured Oracle cluster traffic
may be directed to the public interface of this machine.
Oracle recommends that RAC clustered databases be configured
with a private interconnect for enhanced security and
    performance.

I tried various methods but it did not work.
so to resolve the issue since this is a test environment at home I decided to reinstall the whole setup again.
Of course when I installed the Linux o/s (Centos 5.3) the eth0 was detected as the 1Gbps card and the eth1 was detected as 100mbps card of the motherboard.
So I swapped them by de-activating them and logging in as root and opening these files
    vi /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
    vi /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1
    and swapping the lines
    HWADDR=<mac address>
    from both files.
I activated the cards again and voila - the eth0 is now the 100mbps card and the eth1 is the 1Gbps card
I am having a small doubt with the documentation of Jeffrey Hunter
    the doubt is
At the start of the documentation in the o/s network config section
    on linux2 he specifies
    eth0 -IPv4 Address: 192.168.1.101/ Prefix (Netmask): 255.255.255.0
    eth1:-IPv4 Address: 192.168.2.101/ Prefix (Netmask): 255.255.255.0
    When vipca fails
    His documentation is as follows
    quote
    [root@linux2 ~]# /u01/app/crs/bin/oifcfg setif -global eth0/192.168.1.0:public
    [root@linux2 ~]# /u01/app/crs/bin/oifcfg setif -global eth1/192.168.2.0:cluster_interconnect
    [root@linux2 ~]# /u01/app/crs/bin/oifcfg getif
    eth0 192.168.1.0 global public
    eth1 192.168.2.0 global cluster_interconnect
Now - my question is why the difference between
    eth0 -IPv4 Address: *192.168.1.101*/ Prefix (Netmask): 255.255.255.0
    eth1:-IPv4 Address: *192.168.2.101*/ Prefix (Netmask): 255.255.255.0
    and
    [root@linux2 ~]# /u01/app/crs/bin/oifcfg setif -global eth0/192.168.1.0:public
    [root@linux2 ~]# /u01/app/crs/bin/oifcfg setif -global eth1/192.168.2.0:cluster_interconnect

  • Frustrated. problem installing clusterware. no response from metalink

i've asked metalink and they haven't replied. i'm hoping that the otn community can help.
can't get vipca to run manually, post failure to run thru OUI when installing clusterware. comes back with an Exception Error, yet all the cluster readiness tests were reported successfully. i have included my tar here but have masked the oracle engineer's name as 'm not interested in shaming him, i just want to fix my system. many thanks in advance, John.

    ### PROBLEM STATEMENT ###
i have followed the installation instructions for installing clusterware with ASm as the preferred method for storage as this is
using Oracle Server Std Edition. when the config assistant ran, it succeeded
all steps prior to the following :
Output generated from configuration assistant "Virtual Private IP Configuration Assistant":
    Command = C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd /c call c:\oracle\product\10.2.0\crs/bin/vipca.bat

    180.120.1.126|public 180.120.1.126"
Configuration assistant "Virtual Private IP Configuration Assistant" failed
i then tried to run the vipca afterwards and this fails with :

    hi
by the way, i am following Part Number B14207-01. Oracle® Database Oracle Clusterware and Oracle Real
    Application Clusters Installation Guide
    10g Release 2 (10.2) for Microsoft Windows
i am upto section 4 Installing Oracle Clusterware on Windows-Based Systems.
this is where i did as stated, Using Oracle Universal Installer to Install Oracle Clusterware on Windows
then at step 9, When you click Finish, the OUI installs the OCFS and Oracle Clusterware software on the local node and
validates the installation again. The OUI will also create any required OCFS
file systems. After validating the installation, the OUI completes the Oracle
Clusterware software installation and configuration on the remote nodes.
this is where the configuration assistant fails, with the :
Output generated from configuration assistant "Virtual Private IP Configuration Assistant":
    Command = C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd /c call c:\oracle\product\10.2.0\crs/bin/vipca.bat
    -silent -nodelist "whdc-wms-srv-1,whdc-wms-srv-2" -nodevips
    "whdc-wms-srv-1/whdc-wms-srv-1-vip/255.255.255.0/public 180.120.1.126|public

Configuration assistant "Virtual Private IP Configuration Assistant" failed
, and then when you try to vipca.bat manually, you get :
    C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\crs\BIN>vipca
    Exception in thread "main"

    hi xxxxxx
also noted that even after the 1st attempt to install clusterware the path is as follows :
    PATH=C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem
not sure when there is no change to the path as a result of the oracle install, as there is a JRE and jlib folder under the oracle home : C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\crs\jlib

1st question is you have contradictory statements in your tar. 1) you say no vendor clusterware and the you say you have windows 2003 clusterware installed and configured.
    Why are you installing both?
Although I don;t think that is the problem here, I wonder why anyone would want to run 2 independent cluster software on same servers.
Now the output from the installer has whdc-wms-srv-2-vip output from cluvfy shows suitable interface as whdc-wms-srv-1 HEARTBEAT 10.10.10.11:10.10.10.10
    whdc-wms-srv-2 HEARTBEAT 10.10.10.11:10.10.10.11
whdc-wms-srv-2-vip what you entered to installer does not match what is available!

  • Public Interface not responding after second node is started in the cluster

    Hi
Has anyone ever experienced the public interface not responding between nodes in the cluster (ping, ssh, scp) after the second nodeapps is started in the cluster?
This is a new install so all I have installed so far is the base release of CRS 10.2.0. This is on Solaris10. The vipca failed during the installation, however I was able to proceed and manually add the nodeapps using srvctl add nodeaps -n -o -A.
It seems after the second node is started I loose all connectivity to the public interfaces and to my default gateway.
Also I'm getting the following messages sometimes after I try and stop the nodeapps and start them back up.
CRS-1006: No more members to consider
CRS-0215: Could not start resource 'ora.node1.vip'.
Any suggestions on where I should start troubleshooting?
    Thanks

    Do you have default GW?
It can connects with GW, can't it?
    Check metalink
CRS-0215: Could not start resource 'ora..vip' [ID 356535.1]
CRS-1006: No more members to consider when starting service [ID 465364.1]
    Good Luck

Oracle 10gR2 RAC Installation in RedHat 5 Linux Using VMware.
Important points to install 10gR2 oracle RAC in linux5.
1.LINUX 5(Redhat 5) doesn't have /etc/sysconfig/rawdevices file. so we have to configure it.
    2. Edit the /etc/redhat-release version to redhat-4 and and to invoke the runInstaller use the command
$runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs. //this will bypass the os check //
    3. Next during clusterware installation at the end of root.sh in node 2 end with error message. So we have adjust the parameters in vipca and srvctl files.
    4. vipca will fail to run. so we have to adjust some parameters and configure it manually.
refer the link, it will be useful to you to complete your installation.

Define virtual PCs. Provide full description of the technology, vendor, and version number. If this is another attempt to use unsupported technology like VMWare then you are going against what Oracle recommends and you are on your own.
Since you do not have a valid clusterware installation as indicated by the cluster verify tool this is a really good time to stop the installation and think through these two questions:
    1. What is your shared storage solution? With Windows you only have a couple of possible choices none of which you have mentioned.
    2. What is your cache fusion interconnect strategy?
If you don't get these right you are wasting your time.
SB ... I have no idea why you think this question is in the wrong forum. Can you explain?

  • Oracle Audit Vault installation fails on DVCA assistant + libpthread.so.0

Hello experts, I did this post at general forums but nobody noticed anything, I need your help
I am able to install the Oracle Audit Vault Server on the following features:
OS: Suse Linux 10 SP 2
    Clusterware version: 11.1.0 6
The Oracle Audit Vault server installation procces creates the database an starts the instances on each node and notice me the url for the Enterprise Manager but after that it fails at DVCA assistante because is not able to load the shared library libpthread.so.0.
I found in internet that some time there are files like srvctl, vipca, etc tha export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL ant we have to comment that line, but I do not found the line in those files. I just found in the crsctl file this line like
    LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=
    export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL
PD: The libpthread.so.0 library already exist
Should I comment this line at crsctl file?

  • VIPCA and CRS-0184: Cannot communicate with CRS daemon

I have some strange issue during Clusterware installation. I've installed software on 2 nodes, and have ran root.sh on both. On second node I've had problem with interfaces but it came through after using oifcfg for both public and private interface. Silent vipca executed by root.sh failed, but as it is said in docs it's ok. I need to run vipca on second node manually. But when I'm running it I'm receiving CRS-0184 Cannot communicate with CRS daemon. Daemons are running, there's no error running crs_start -all. I don't have any idea what can I do now.

  • Racgons Failed

I am trying to install 10g Clusterware on cent O.S(4.8), 2 vitural servers and the host operating system being Windows 7 Ultimate . After the initial configuration of the operating system/packages etc..,I have configured 2 NIC's eth0- Public & Vip(which i keep it inactive) eth1- Interconnect, on both the nodes. I successfully run cluvfy and get no errors (Except for VIP). The installer runs fine, ./vipca runs fine too, but when completeing the installation, it tells me that there are a few pre-requisites which are failed.
When i look at the logs, I see that the below steps have failed.
    u01/crs/oracle/product/10.2.0/crs/bin/racgons add_config rac1.localdomain:6200 rac2.localdomain:6200
    /u01/crs/oracle/product/10.2.0/crs/bin/oifcfg setif -global eth0/192.168.1.0:public eth1/192.168.2.0:cluster_interconnect
    /u01/crs/oracle/product/10.2.0/crs/bin/cluvfy stage -post crsinst -n rac1,rac2
Also, I cleaned up the install and tried to reinstall it agian, by running vipca or both the nodes as well as for each node once at a time. Also tried to clean up the OCR/VOting disk entries.
Tried googling it but there is no perfect solution for it, all i see is how to clean up the installation, but no one has posted a fix for it. I would highly appreciate if someone could shed some light on it.
    Thanks,
    Ab

  • Never used VIPCA

    OS : Solaris 5.10, RHEL 5
I came across the VIP configuration assistant utility in the documentation.
I have installed both 10.2 and 11.2 RAC databases but i never had to use VIPCA .VIP is just an unassigned address in the Public network's subnet and i had used /etc/hosts file (rather than DNS or GNP) to speficy the VIPs. I think VIP was initialized and configured when we run root.sh script at the end.
Under what circumstance should we be using VIPCA?

    Hi,
VIPCA was used in 10.2 (not anymore in 11.2) implicitly at the end of the last root.sh and runs in silent mode.
However if you used 192.168.X.X or 10.X.X.X addresses for your public network it failed in 10.2.
As a workaround you had to call VIPCA manually.

    Sebastian
