Virtual home button in notification menu?

I've been using the assistive touch helper so I don't have to use the actual home button as much (i've had to replace 3 ipod touches because of faulty home buttons) and I'm wondering if anyone else agrees that a virtual home button in the notifaction drop-down menu rather than being on the screen all the time would be a great way to exit apps and not have to click that button so much. Just like moving the assitive touch home button feature to the drop down menu. I can tell you that using a vitual home button seems so much more "apple" and it wouldn't be that hard to do.

Go to Settings, general, accessibility, assistive touch. It works great.

Basic troubleshooting steps clearly outlined in the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as NEW. Have ALL of these steps been tried?
If you've been through ALL these steps and still have problems, you'll need to bring your phone into Apple for evaluation.

Home button icon in notification center

If you own an iPod Touch long enough and you have used it very often, you might notice that the Home Button becomes unresponsive. I can read that on the Internet that people are annoyed about this, so I am not the only one!
To get around using the button, I was hoping I could install a virtual home button in the Notification Center. A search on the Internet revealed that they are (were) several solutions without jailbreaking the device, but all these programs disappeared from the AppStore or they do not longer contain a feature to place icons into the Notification Center screen (e.g., launch center).
Is there another way to get around that hardware Home Button? I tried all things suggested to make that button more responsive – nothing worked (so, no more suggestions). I need a software solution.

Notice the third check box "show in Notification Center" is unticked which drops it to the bottom and beyond the line "Not in Notification Center"

After my last and latest upgrade to Iphone 5, i can no longer delete open app by tapping the home button twice, and then swiping off the screen. In effect these apps are open and using data. Go to Settings>General>Accessability>Assistive touch(in the bottom)
and switch the toggle on. You'll find now a smaal square around your screen.
Touch it aand perform the double click gesture with the virtual home button on the screen.
I think your Home button has been damaged.

At Apple Store this is handled with Replacement iPhone exactly like yours. If there is AppleCare or Warranty it will be covered, otherwise there will be a charge of $150 - $199 depending on iPhone model. If iPhone 5 it will be covered. If you want to try Virtual Home Button. Settings App > General > Accessibility > Assistive Touch > ON > tap new white screen button > Home.

Let is dry completly, this can take several days sometimes. If only the Home Button is faulty, you can use Virtual Home Button. Tap Settings App > General > Accessibilty > Assistive Touch > ON > tap new small white screen button > Home.

Any suggestion on how to fix an iphone with a broken home button?

I have 3 iphones on my ATT account. All 3 of these phones have had the home button to stop working. We had one iphone replaced since it was still under warranty. I am cautious about even getting another iphone due to this ongoing problem. Has anyone found a workable solution? Has apple acknowledged that they are even aware of this issue? I am very frustrated. If it were an isolated incidence it wouldn't be so bad, but I have found hundreds of pages with complaints of the same problem.

Since this button is mashed a lot, harder by some people than others, it may fail on some iPhones. People who had them break will be posting on the net for solutions. The millions of people who don't have the issue generally don't feel up hundreds of pages saying, "my home button works all the time."
I've never had a home button fail on my 2 iPhones. There is speculation that Apple could move to a virtual home button to avoid home button problems. It is a mechanical switch, it can fail, but there is no "issue" to report.

5S Home Button is "Press" Type of "Touch" Type

Is 5S Home Button a mechanical one: you press and it goes in? My iPhone4's home button is not responding 7 out of 10 times after 2yrs, I think this home button will never last long after being pressed so many times. Thanks Nathan, that's what I thought. I am just afraid that this sill home button on 5S will also become not responding 7 out of 10 times after just 2yrs, and that's frustrating even I know there is the on screen virtual home button I can use but just distracting with a circle dot on the screen all the time, and you have to constantly move it around when you are surfing.

Iphone5 home button fell out

The other day I noticed the home button was beginning to pop up a little bit over the screen at the top (I assume I normally press the bottom of the button itself). Then a few days later, I pulled my phone out of my pocket and there was no button at all. Lucky I have the circle button still and pressing the little dot inside the hole still works too. I went to the apple store and they said they would need to replace the whole front part of the screen for like 150. Obviously I didn't feel that was necessary so I began thinking of some other solutions. I tried double sided tape to keep the home button in but it wasn't sticky enough, and I dont like the virtual home button option from the settings either. I was thinking of trying a very very small amount of super glue to hold it together maybe. Do you have any better ideas before I go ahead and try it?

Yes, skip that step along with the additional damage it will probably do and go right to the next one: pay Apple to have it fixed.

IPod touch 4 home button not working properly

I got my ipod in november 2010 and it worked fine up untill august where the home button just suddenly became undresponsive. I did not abuse my iPod i am very careful i have a case and no screen cracks/dents etc.. Now it works about 30% of the time and it is really annoying I had to turn on this awful feature where i geta virtual home button which is in the way of everything and i cant even arrange it properly. I am very dissapointed with apples express lane which provided absolutely no help and in their hardware. I have several freinds who got the same type of ipod at around the same time and they are having the same problems. Was it designed to do this? I am now wondering how much I am going to be charged for this. May I get it for free even though my warrenty expired very recently? thanks for the help
