Did you load the module vboxdrv, do you have access to it (are you in the virtualbox user group, have you logged in, logged out, otherwise you could chmod 777 /dev/vboxdrv for the time being) etc.

  • Mplayer and VirtualBox error after installing ATI Drivers

    I recently switched from the Open Source drivers for my ATI video card.  Since that time some programs are refusing to load.
    I switched to the Catalyst repository to install the new drivers for my card.
    The specific error message I get when running the mplayer in the terminal is
    mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libdirectfb-1.4.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    the message for VirtualBox is
    VirtualBox: supR3HardenedMainGetTrustedMain: dlopen("/opt/VirtualBox/VirtualBox.so",) failed: libdirectfb-1.4.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    So far only 2 programs have been giving me this error are mplayer and VirtualBox.
    I have tried reinstalling directfb and mplayer, but this doesn't fix things.
    I have run ldd `which mplayer` and the following is missing
    libdirectfb-1.4.so.0 => not found
    libfusion-1.4.so.0 => not found
    libdirect-1.4.so.0 => not found
    I am running 64bit Arch.
    Thanks for your help

    Thanks

    After running that, I discovered that sdl needed to be rebuilt. Once I did that, everything works fine.

  • VirtualBox Error with VT-x/AMD-V after suspend

    I using virtualbox_bin 2.2.0-1 from the AUR and have noticed a really annoying problem that *is not related* to the virtualbox_bin package (I think).
    When I suspend my Arch x86_64 box and then awaken it again,  VBox doesn't run my 64-bit guest VM and gives this error:
    VT-x/AMD-V hardware acceleration has been enabled, but is not operational. Your 64-bit guest will fail to detect a 64-bit CPU and will not be able to boot.
    Please ensure that you have enabled VT-x/AMD-V properly in the BIOS of your host computer.
    I rebooted and entered my BIOS.  All my virtualization options are set to enable.  If I totally power down my system, then boot into Arch, the problem is gone and the 64-bit VM works just fine.  If I just reboot, the problem is not solved and the 64-bit VM does not work giving that error.  This problem starts when the machine gets suspended and then awakened. Upon waking up, the symptoms I described above occur and they survive a reboot!  Again, the only cure seems to be a power down then startup again (cold boot).
    Can anyone suggest why this might be happening? Are they any logs I can look into to help trouble-shoot?

    Can anyone else out there who has a 64-bit VM give this a try and report back?
    1) Verify that the 64-bit VM works
    2) Suspend your host machine then wake it back up
    3) Try to run your 64-bit VM again and see if you get the same result I do

    UPDATE: I just booted into Windows XP x64 edition and repeated this bug so it's probably not a Linux issue, it's either a problem with VBox, or with my system/Motherboard (BIOS).
    Can anyone else out there who has a 64-bit VM (Windows, or Linux host) please give this a try and report back?

    what must i do to get this thing work?

    I think the issue was that the vboxdrv module that was loaded in ram was from the previous version.  Then when you upgraded Virtualbox and tried to run it.. there was a version mismatch because the old kernel module was still loaded.  A reboot would have solved this issue, as it did.
    to avoid the restart you could have also done
    rmmod vboxdrv
    modprobe vboxdrv
    ok ty for your time and the info.

  • VirtualBox error in Yosemite... anyone solve yet? Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)

    Kernal driver missing after upgrade from Mavericks to Yosemite.  I need to write code today.... Help!!

    I had the same issue after I upgrade to Yosemite. I was on VirtualBox 4.2.
    After I upgrade VirtualBox to 4.3.18, it seems back to work again. The Check for Updates menu told me 4.2 is the latest so I have to download 4.3.18 from VirtualBox website instead. Good luck...

    Can anyone assist on this? Is there any issue with the package itself?

    Well, I contacted Lucasarts about this problem, and all they could say is that "This product is not currently supported using the Apple Boot Camp Application." That doesn't make sense to me. If it's installed on a Windows partition, shouldn't it be able to run? Is there something technical going on, because Windows is running on a Mac machine, that would prevent the game from being able to run properly?

    modprobed_db can be found in the AUR. It collects all modules which have ever been loaded on your system. It's very practical if you compile a custom kernel and only want to include the modules you need.
    I think this doesn't solve your problem. Your system is missing the file /usr/lib/libQtCore.so.4 Do you have [testing] enabled? If so, do you also have [community-testing] enabled? I'll need more input to be able to help properly.

  • "A critical error has occurred while running the virtual machine and the machine execution has been stopped"

    I have the following error:
    "A critical error has occurred while running the virtual machine and the machine execution has been stopped"
    When I am installing grid clusterware and when is copying files from one node to other I received that virtualbox error and is stop working.
    Can somebody give me any hint how to solve it ?
    Thank you
    Eugen

    I think that is not a Clusterware issue, The clusterware installation may generating a high load on your machine and Virtual Box is not supporting.
    Check vbox.log file to identify root cause.

    Okay, I'll try to be a bit more precise as well. I have two machines running Arch, both of them run Xfce, so no gnome or esd stuff.
    Machine 1:
    [2008-07-12 22:06] installed sdl (1.2.13-1)
    [2008-07-12 22:12] installed mplayer (1.0rc2-3)
    No esd installed at this point, everything's fine. Then, for some minutes esd was installed because it was needed by something I was testing:
    [2008-07-25 18:39] installed esd (0.2.39-1)
    [2008-07-25 19:57] removed esd (0.2.39-1)
    Still everything fine. The update today did the following:
    [2008-10-19 19:13] upgraded libcups (1.3.8-2 -> 1.3.9-1)
    [2008-10-19 19:13] upgraded cups (1.3.8-2 -> 1.3.9-1)
    [2008-10-19 19:13] upgraded flashplugin (9.0.124.0-1 -> 10.0.12.36-1)
    [2008-10-19 19:13] upgraded libxml2 (2.6.32-2 -> 2.6.32-3)
    [2008-10-19 19:13] upgraded imagemagick (6.4.4.1-1 -> 6.4.4.9-1)
    [ kernel and mkinitcpio stuff ]
    [2008-10-19 19:13] upgraded kernel26 (2.6.27-2 -> 2.6.27.1-1)
    [2008-10-19 19:13] upgraded ntfs-3g (1.2812-1 -> 1.5012-1)
    [2008-10-19 19:14] upgraded scons (1.0.1-1 -> 1.1.0-1)
    [2008-10-19 19:14] upgraded sdl (1.2.13-1 -> 1.2.13-2)
    [2008-10-19 19:14] installed smpeg (0.4.4-3)
    [2008-10-19 19:14] upgraded sdl_mixer (1.2.8-2 -> 1.2.8-3)
    From now on, some applications that rely on sdl refuse to run - all of them were running fine before:
    <00:39> ~ $ VirtualBox
    VirtualBox: error while loading shared libraries: libesd.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    <00:39> ~ $ mplayer
    mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libesd.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    <00:39> ~ $ avidemux2_gtk
    avidemux2_gtk: error while loading shared libraries: libesd.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    <00:39> ~ $ foobillard
    foobillard: error while loading shared libraries: libesd.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    Machine 2:
    All the same, but esd has never been installed - so I don't think it's a misconfiguration regarding esd or sdl. All applications were running fine here until sdl has been updated today. Same error message.
    Workarounds:
    * Downgrading sdl to sdl-1.2.13-1 instantly fixes the issue, applications are starting, sound is being played. It's not needed to downgrade sdl_mixer.
    * Or: Only recompiling mplayer (while new sdl is being installed) at least solves the problem for mplayer. I haven't tried recompiling the other apps.

  • Error message (can't find boot disk) installing win xp on VirtualBox

    In trying to install win xp to a VirtualBox vm, I get an error message that a boot disk can't be found. This seems logical to stupid me, as I have not yet installed the win system from the install disk. Instructions that came with the VirtualBox said I must have windows installer on my computer to install win xp. So I downloaded it, but cant figure out how to install it on the vm. To further confuse things, I can't seem to find information as to whether my Intel 2ghz core duo is a 32 bit or 64 bit chip.
    Thanks for any help you can give me...
    Phil (confused in Menifee) Green

    Hi, Dave & Dave -
    Wow, that took longer than I thought. I have been back for a couple of hours, and spent that time running the uninstall program, and then going to users/library/VirtualBox and deleting that folder, and its contents. Next I downloaded a fresh copy of VirtualBox from the Sun website, installed it on my computer, then ran the VirtualBox set up (setup the settings) and then clicked on the start icon. After the splash screen, I once again got the same error message. I repeated that routine at least three time, all three times I received the same message.
    I then got the bright idea to go into my time machine and went back to several days after I had installed the program previously (March 25, 2009) and retrieved both the program from the application folder, and the vb folder from the user library, restoring them to my present computer state. After all, I thought, if it worked on March 25th, those files should work now. DRAT, I was wrong, Got the same message at the same place in the startup routine.
    So, Dave and Dave, after a little more futzing around, I'm now back to the same place I was when I first posted about my problem: My win xp disk will still not mount. ****!!!
