VirtualBox Max Screen Resolution

I've installed Windows 10 Technical Preview in VirtualBox on my Mac and everything went very smooth and fast! But I have a few problems if anyone can please help me.
1. Guest Additions won't install. "Isn't compatible with this version of Windows" I tried to install via CMD also, but VirtualBox does not see it installed (if it did)
2. Because of the first problem, the VM's max screen resolution is 1600x1200, while my Mac's Thunderbolt Display is 2560x1440
I've installed Windows 8.1 Preview before and it worked, so I think it's a problem with Windows.

Both of you must work with VirtualBox to resolve this peculiarity.  VirtualBox is not a Microsoft product and is not supported by Microsoft.
Oracle has sole responsibility for support of their products and the VirtulaBox website is found @
https://www.virtualbox.org/
The appropriate forum for discussing this situation is in the VirtualBox forums found @
https://forums.virtualbox.org/
The VirtualBox Guest Additions are also the sole responsibility of Oracle, not Microsoft!

  • HP Mini Ability To View Win 8 Metro Under Its MAX Screen Resolution When Released :(

This is just a question and I know it has got to be posted many, many time somewhere. I absolutely love the Mini and when I had some issues after my purchase a few months ago, the fantastic support agent even said when the actual Win 8 is released,  it will be so cool on it. Well, one major problem I never caught. While the Mini Desktop portion of Win 8 Consumer preview works great, the HP Mini ability to view Win 8 Metro under Its MAX screen resolution is not possible. Now I know HP does not support the consumer preview as of yet but am I just out of luck by the release date? Will there be some kind of patch or ability for current Mini buyers to use Win 8 Metro when released? I asked this question in a Win 8 forum and the response I got was just that Notebooks are not designed for these kinds of features and are simple in nature. I agree but that is backward having a small device that will not be able to use Windows 8 except on its Desktop and furthermore, something tells me that Minis after 2013 will?  Help....

Anyway, I know there is nothing that can be done about it-its just frustrating knowing that in about 7 months, the upgrade will not mean much to these minis and pretty much a new unit within 12 months of an OS release. I doubt MS will lower the resolution rate but the 600 is right at that line for many programs as well. I never would have thought-I am just stuck and was hoping the 210 would be compatible to an OS that is supposed to be friendly with the smaller devices-now this is ironic.

  • Max screen resolution different under lion?

okay, is it just me, or does a 4 year old 20" imac have a smaller max resolution under lion than it did before?  it's kind of hard to tell if everything is bigger now, but without doubt all the icons on my desktop are a LOT bigger than they were before the upgrade.  of course, i went into system prefs - displays and the resolution is set at 1680 x 1050, which is the max choice.  i just can't remember what it was set at before.

Screen resolutions are determined by your graphics hardware, not Lion per se.  However, the display settings were changed on my Mac mini for the HDMI port after the Lion upgrade, and it keeps resizing all of my windows for minimum resolution on startup, so I'd venture to say that Lion has a few bugs regarding screen resolution that are in need of bug-fix updates.

  • Max. screen resolution of secure desktop

    Hi there.
I have access to the notebook at my office via Secure Global Desktop. Normally my notebook has a screen resolution of 1280x1024. If I try to access it with this resolution from home I indeed can log on but I only get a blue screen (for about one second I can see the icons on my notebook's desktop).
Using a resolution of 1024x768 everything seems to work fine. But this resolution is too low to work with so that I would have to switch it every evening when I leave the office (to ensure that I could have access in case of emergency).
Is there really a limit concerning the screen resolution? Does anyone know anything about that? Or if not, how would it be possible to access my notebook with the higher resolution!? What would I have to configure in the administration area?
    Thanks for every hint.
    Regards,
    Stephan

I work with 1280x800 and it works perfectly.
One thing you can try is to increase the memory assigned to java to see if it helps.
    /opt/tarantella/bin/tarantella config edit --tuning-jvm-initial <MB>
    /opt/tarantella/bin/tarantella config edit--tuning-jvm-scale <percent>
    /opt/tarantella/bin/tarantella config edit--tuning-jvm-max <MB>
I normally set the initial to 60% of the systems memory, the scale to 150 and the max to 80% of the systems memory.
I this won't help is will make the performance a bit better if the jvm memory was set very low.

  • Satellite A660-1FM - Max. screen resolution of external monitor

    Hi All,
This may be (probably) an easy questions to answer but I have a Satellite A660-1FM and want to use it with my Samsung Syncmaster (forgotten model) external screen. I grabbed an HDMI->DVI-D adapter, and all is well, but here is my question:
The toshiba specs page for my laptop (http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/product/Satellite-A660-1FM/1096013/toshibaShop/false/) shows an external resolution capability of:
    Max Resolution : 2,048 x 1,536
Max Refresh Rate : 100 Hz
    Non-interlaced resolution with max refresh rate : 1,920 x 1,200
But I get what I call standard HDMI resolution (not surprising I guess) when connected HDMI->DVI-D to my external monitor. I have previously run this monitor on my desktop at much high resolutions than 1080P, so the monitor is capable.
Just wondered what I'm missing here, or is it a case of the graphics card spec is higher than is possible to output from the laptop ?
    Thanks for any help
    Andy

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply.
As to native resolution of the external monitor - unsure how to find this - but it was running a with a lot higher res when it was connected to my old desktop (which has died and been replaced by this laptop)
R/E the adapter - My Samsung Syncmaster monitor has a DVI-D cable sticking out the back of it, so I needed to connect that to my laptop - either vga-> DVI-D or HDMI-DVI-D to make use of it.
The external monitor is currently running at 1680 x 1050 using the laptop HDMI output -> HDMI-DVI-D adapater -> external monitor.
Before my desktop died, using the same external monitor I was running at 1680 x (guessing a bit here) 2048 ish (really sure I had a greater y res, this 1050 lark is really squishy).. in any case, the Y resolution was much much much better than 1050.
But, according to the specification for this laptop, it can output 2048 x 1536 to an external device (How, the HDMI and VGA outptu cannot go that high right ?)
So, I'm trying to figure out how to get the resolution on the laptop spec onto my external monitior, which has more than handled this resolution before my old gaming desktop died.
Thanks again for the reply - I hope this makes my question clearer.
    Cheers
    Andy

  • Max screen resolution LCD Satellite pro M10

hi, sorry for my poor english, my question is:
The max internal LCD resolution for the satellite pro M10 notebook is 1024x768? excluse te superior resolution with scrolling?
I Have read in the tecnical specific of my notebook that the internal max resolution is 1280x1024 is not really?
    thanks

    Hi
As far as I know the display resolution depends on a display controller
I found this information in the user manual. The following models are available:
    -14.1 XGA with 1024 x 768
    -15.0 XGA with 1024 x 768
    -15.0 SXGA+ with 1400 x 1050
    -15.0 UXGA with 1600 x 1200
I think in this case your unit has a 14.1 or a 15.0 XGA display controller. Well, in my opinion its all right with your notebook. Enjoy it :)
    Bye

  • Increase the screen resolution

    Hi All
Is it possible to increase the screen resolution in BDC?
My Max screen resolution is 1280 X 800 and my BDC screen operates at this resolution
    I want to increase it to 1400 X 1080
Is there a way i can pass these values?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi:
The 15.6" screen size model only has a display resolution of 1366x768 according to the product specs at the link below.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c04031365&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...
There are no product specs listed for the 17" screen model but since they end in the same 111tx, I assume that the 17" display has the same resolution as well.
Nothing you can do to change that.  It is a limitation of the display panel hardware.

  • Problem with AE CS5 and laptop screen resolution during install..

    Hello everyone,
I bought AE and I am very disappointed.  When I went to install the  application, I got the following errors and it stopped installing.

My max screen resolution is 1366x768 and the requirement is  1280x1024.
I don't plan on buying a screen that large.  Is there a fix for  this? perhaps editing the registry? I won't mind the small work area.  I  can manage.  does AE CS4 have this resolution requirement?  I have an  opengl capable graphics card in my laptop so I don't think that is an  issue here. any help would be much appreciated. thanks

ok I think I was able to bypass the " Display requirements not met for {DA1B174B-4297-467C-9EF8-0AB8D4D5171E}" error during install. I hooked up an exteral monitor with the required resolution and I did not see that error message again.  However, I am still getting the following error messages
    <code>
WARNING: Payload cannot be installed due to dependent operation failure
    </code>
could it be that my graphics card does not support opengl? how can I make sure it supports opengl 2.0?
the graphics card that I have is an integraded intel media graphics accelerator.  I am quite sure it would support opengl2.0. any thoughts? thanks
My brother has a screen resolution of 1240x780 and yet he was able to install AE CS5 without any errors at all.  He has an ATI mobility Raedon Graphics card.  whats up with that? also, he cannot hear any sound from avi videos in AE.  He has tried everything even raising the decibals level in the track.

  • NetBook Screen Resolution for Media Manager

I have an LG x120 Netbook. As a net book, the screen is small, so the max screen resolution is something like 1024 x 566. This si below the minimum screen resolution required for even opening up the Media Manager.
Needless to say, THIS SUCKS, how do I get round this stupid requirement?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Sorry, but basically, you don't...as you stated, the software has a minimum screen resolution requirement. Simple as that. If your system does not meet that, then the software won't work. You can read this KB for more information, including a workaround.
    Good luck!

  • Screen Resolution Problem (Max. Resolution of only 1024x768)

    Hello,
I just upgraded my T61 laptop from Windows XP to Windows 7, Everything was fine at first. But one day when I turned on my laptop, I found out that the screen resolution was wrong. It was only 1024x768 (not wide screen). As a result, the screen was on the left, leaving a thick black bar on the right. The given resolutions which I could choose are only 800x600 and 1024x768, no wide screen options. Tried nvidia control panel, it was still the same. Tried to connect to an external monitor (16:9 wide screen), the resolution was, however, perfect (fit the external monitor).
I already have the newest display driver (nvidia Quadro NVS 140m - downloaded from Lenovo). I even reinstalled the driver and installed the monitor driver provided by Lenovo, but the problem still exists.
By the way, after I encountered this problem, when I turn on the laptop, there is no more screen showing the ThinkVantage and the Intel logo. There is also no screen for "Starting Windows". It will straight away enter windows logon screen. It means, I have no way to enter BIOS or the recovery tools by pressing the ThinkVantage button at startup. (I cannot see anything!)
    Anyone can please help me?
    Thanks!

you need to install the monitot inf file from here. Scroll down the page for installation instructions.
As you have installed another OS on your system you will have changed the Master Boot Record, (MBR), which contains the information allowing the ThinkVantage button to work at boot. If you left the recovery partition intact, i.e. didn't format it, it may be possible to repair the MBR in order that you can access it. However, the recovery partition will have the original XP image on it and not your W7.
You can enter BIOS by pressing F1 at boot.
    Hope this helps

  • Screen resolution in windows not as high as in 10.8

I recently got my hard drive replaced in my Mid 2010 27" iMac. I've partitioned the drive to reinstall Win 7 but now the screen resolution in Win7 is not as high as it was on the old hard drive. In 10.8, it runs at full resolution 2560x1440 but in Windows it runs at 1920x1440 max.
Anyone know how I can get Windows to show the full screen res because 1920x1440 looks like wallpaper that has been 'stretched to fit' and it's annoying to look at.
    thanks

Yes I did. I have no idea if it installed properly.
    Then reinstall it.

  • Screen resolution in VMWare

I just installed the newest Arch .iso into a VMWare Workstation 6.5 virtual machine. Everything seems good, I have Gnome installed, and I am looking at the desktop. However, I can't seem to figure out how to go about changing the screen resolution to 1280x800 so it goes full screen on my laptop. I searched around and found a few things via Google but none of them seemed to solve my issue. I have the vmware video driver installed, I configured xorg.conf according to one of the guides I found, and open-vm-tools is installed and added to the daemons line in rc.conf. If anyone can help me out that would be great, thanks!

You should really use Sun xVM VirtualBox. Its a _lot_ faster, it does a _lot_ of less problems and at least there is an OpenSource Edition

I have used Virtualbox A LOT in the past (mostly from when it was innotek). The newest version does not play nice with my Windows XP install. The install takes hours and once it is done I have no network connection. I do still utilize Virtualbox 2.2 on my machine with no problems. I am trying Arch out in VMWare Workstation 6.5 and that's why I am trying to figure this out. I would like to evaluate it for myself.

  • Screen Resolution in Virtual Box

    Okay, my next obstacle.
I installed guest additions as the wiki instructed:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Vi … _Additions
and have xorg installed, but with the minimum xorg-server package.
I read another forum post from awhile ago about hardcoding resolution in a GRUB config file, but I don't have the config file they spoke of, and I can't seem to find the post anymore.
Screen resizing doesn't appear to work. In changing the size of the virtual box window, the screen resolution remains the same. I'm not exactly sure shared-clipboard is working either, though I don't have a definitive test for that.
Syncing the host time and guest time seems to have worked though.
How do I go about enabling screen-resizing? I would prefer if it auto-resized based on the virtualbox window size, instead of hardcoding a bigger resolution. If that's possible.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by the minimum xorg-server package - just X with no desktop environment or window manager?  If so, I think that might be the issue.  As an experiment, you could clone your installation in Virtualbox, and install Xfce on the clone.  If you can resize the window with Xfce running, then you know you have everything configured properly.
For hard-coding a resolution at boot time, you can put "vga=792" in your grub config file.  I use syslinux, so I can't tell you for sure about grub.  But in syslinux, mine looks like this:
    APPEND root=/dev/sda1 ro vga=792
You can google the keywords "vga resolution codes" to find codes for other settings, but 792 will give you 1024x768 with 24 bits.
Sorry I'm not much of an expert, but hopefully that will give you some avenues to pursue.
