Vista and mic problems

Vista and mic problemsW I'm sure this is the same problem as most. I did some searching and couldn't come up with a clear cut answer.
I run Vista Ultimate 64bit with an Elite Pro card. Just installed Vista as a matter of fact. I am also using the Fataity Gaming headset. NOT the USB headset.
I can get my mic to work somewhat, just not near good enough. It seems to be fairly quiet?with what could best be described as a metallic sound usually at the beginning and ending of talking into it. If i record some audio it sounds the same.
Is this the same problem everyone else has, and if so, where should i start to try to get it usable?

Good luck with this. I JUST bought this same card, and I will be returning it this week. Technical support wasn't any help, but they did provide me with comic relief.
The problem is that there is no mic boost option - am I right?

Sorry, that didn't work. I get no drop down menu from the Hot Sync Manager for the Serial Port. What comes up often is: "The selected port, COM1, is not available at this time. Hot Sync Manager will open the port when it becomes available."
Could it be the Norton Antivirus Firewall that is preventing the Hot Sync Manager to open the Serial Port? Just a thought. Thanks for your help.

HDX 16 Headset and Mic problem in Vista64

Good afternoon,
I have a long-standing problem with my e-dimensional AudioFX headset and my HP HDX 16, vista64 laptop. The issue is:
I cannot hear myself speak into the mic from my headset. ie. no sound is being sent from the mic back into the headset or external speakers. Everything else works just fine. My ventrilo partners can hear me and I can hear them. I just cannot hear myself.
When I plug the headset into my older Windows XP Pro machine, it works perfectly. I hear all ambient sound from the mic in my headset.
This is really difficult to work this way. I have tried disabling the AndreaElectronics microphone enhancements but this has not worked. I have tried adjusting the recording and playback properties many many times and many different ways but still can't get ambient sounds to feed back into the headset. I am reluctant to fool around with the IDT Audio drivers/services.
Can anyone offer some guidance/troubleshooting help? I'm totally out of ideas now.

I think the solution involves enabling mic monitoring in the registry but I don't know exactly how to do it. If there are any registry experts reading this, I would greatly appreciate your help. I am reluctant to make any registry changes per the instructions in the link above since that was for a Dell computer and my registry is slightly different from the instructions given.
My exact model is the HP HDX 16 running Vista Home Premium 64-bit. Model number X-16 1155CA.

JRE, vista and IE7 problems

Java does not seem to run on IE7 except on microsoft's websites. The verify of installation on the Sun java website failed as well. I could not see any applet running. However, with other broswers such as firefox and opera, java worked perfectly. I updated my IE and JRE as well, but the problem was not solved.
I had already enabled the scripting under security, the plug ins in the
manage add-ons and under advance, java sun was enabled as well. My internet security settings is set to default.
I found out that the problem was caused by UAC. After disabling that troublesome device, java could be activated again. Is this a bug in java or in UAC?
Is there any other way besides disabling UAC or having IE7 protected mode : off?
Any solutions please?

I'm having the same problem with IE7 running on XP SP2. All web sites that i visit the require JRE (Morningstar, Schwab, Marketedge, Sun Java Verify Site) return 'Jave Plug-In Fatal Error: Several JVMs running the same process caused and error. I'm running JRE 1.5.0_06. I've tried uninstall/reinstall of IE7 with no change. No problems running JRE on IE6 or Netscape. Does anyone know of any progress on this issue?

T61p, Vista and hibernate problems

There are some other threads on the issue, but I didn't see anyone with the exact same problem.
The basics; T61p (6457-5gg) with Windows Vista Ultimate. Latest BIOS and drivers.
- The sleep-function in Vista ain't possible to use at all.
- When i choose to hibernate, the systems goes into hibernation, and then wakes up again. I put the system into hibernation and put the pc in my bag. Took it up a couple of hours later and it was extremly hot. It was really uncomfortable to touch the system. Battery had been completly drained.
- BIOS-settings should be ok. The option for waking to do scheduled tasks is disabled.
Suggestions? I was thinking about a complete reinstall of the system to see what happens then, but I was hoping for a 2 minute fix instead of a days work :-|

I am having the same issue on my T60 on Windows XP.
I have had major issues with Standby and Hibernation from the beginning (less with Hibernation, so I use that more), but I have had weird issues where hibernating the system while plugged into AC power and waking it up while on battery will cause all kinds of issues to the point where the system will nearly freeze and cannot be shut down normally (this I can reproduce any time).
A friend told me there was a BIOS update that had been released recently - guess what: Since I installed that, I am getting freezes after a fresh reboot within minutes - my external USB mouse will stop working first, then the Start menu button and the content will start losing text (only the icons will show), and at some point it will no longer do anything.
But today all of a sudden out of the blue after showing these signs, I get the mentioned blue screen:

There appears to be a hotfix for Vista that you can request from Microsoft, but nothing for XP.
I would really like Lenovo to look into this as I am fairly certain there is something in their power management drivers and software that is causing this.

Audigy2zs and mic problem

I have been using Arch for some time now and it never really bugges me till lately. I use TeamSpeak for playing games on my machine but I have always had to use Alsa 1.06 in order to use mic. Alsa 1.07 and 1.08 in Arch Linux remove the mic capture from the alsamixer control.
I have tried some experimenting and turned all the volume levels all the way up but I still didn't get any output to the guys on TeamSpeak. If I use Alsa 1.06 it works perfectly. I don't use any modules in Arch, I compile my own kernel so all my hardware is built into it.
I was just wondering if this is a package problem or some sort of compat problem with alsa after 1.06.
I have read on alsa's site and have done many searches but can't seem to find much pertinent info to help me with this.
I dislike the modules.conf and such that's why i always do sutom kernels as I know all my hardware is supported this way and loaded.
Any info on how to get mic capture working with alsa 1.07 or 1.08 on an Audigy2zs would be great.

Well, I have alsamixer mic boost unmuted and the mic playback all the way up. I can hear myself in the headset from my mic but the guys are not hearing me talk when I do.
With alsa 1.06 I have the mic capture option in the alsamixer panel aswell as the mic boost and the mic playback. They can hear me with mic capture volume up, mic boost unmuted. I can have the mic playback all the way down and they can still hear me. I am just not understanding why 1.07 or 1.08 removes the mic capture feature from the panel.
As for the 3d depth and such I havn't messed with those as I use a headset with a mic. I don't have any regular comp speakers currently. But, I did have all the volume controls turned all the way up at one point to see if one of the settings was acting as the mic capture but I don't think any are.

6PCI Express X-FI Xtreme Audio - Mic and mixer problems' Trouble started two days ago when I updated to the latest X-FI drivers. Now I have no mixer and I can't figure out how to get my mic to work. The only thing that has changed is the updating of drivers. I am using senheiser headphones with mic for use on ventrillo. In the old set up I could go into the mixer and tell the software that the Line-In was a mic and it would work perfectly. Now I can't get the mic to work at all since there is no creative mixer. The windows mixer doesn't allow you to do anything worth wild.
I don't have the old software so I can't go back to the old setup. I am using Vista 64. What the heck am I doing wrong? Why won't the software now recognize that I am plugging in a mic!?!?!?

Doesn't Vista have some sort of automatic checkpointing feature that gives you a way to back up to a point before you updated the drivers?

problem with vista and 5. i install my old audigy 2 zs exp pro with DTT2500 speaker
In my new pc.
i install vista 64 and SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_8_000 driver from creative site.
when i go to control panel/sound and test the 5. surrund ' iget only the two front speaker.
why is that?
i try to play a song from vista folder "Distance" and i get all 5 +sub to play.
do i miss something?
is the test worg and with another test i can get all spedajer to work or the driver is not good?

i can get 4 speaker when i use the fourpoint mode on the desktop theather 5. dtt2500 digital,
but in movie mode i get only 2 front speaker.
i use the digital out from the sound blaster.

My apologies about not explaining further about disabling SPDIF passthrough. See the steps below to enable DDL encoding.
***Before proceeding please make sure that you've purchased, installed and activated the DDL pack***
. Open Creative Audio Console, go to the Decoder tab to disable driver level encoding and enable SPDIF passthrough (this is done by selecting SPDIF passthrough or any similar option that enable the use of an external decoder) instead of using the built-in decoders.
2. Open up your playback devices window (right click on the speaker icon on the taskbar and select playback devices) and set analog speakers (not SPDIF) as your default device. This is VERY IMPORTANT step, or else you get the "the device is busy" error when enbaling DDL encoding.
3. In the Audio Console, select the Encoder tab and enable DLL encoding.
Note:
When DDL encoding is enabled, it makes exclusi've use of your SPDIF connection so, no passthrough is possible. The default output format when using DDL encoding is 48KHz/6 bits. If you make use of any AC3 audio filters (such as ac3filter/others included in codec packs/media player softwares) when DLL encoding is enabled, then please change their output device to analog speakers instead of SPDIF.
To use back SPDIF passthrough (when playing back media with a pre-encoded audio source), open up Audio Console and disable DDL encoding and in the Playback Devices window change the default device to SPDIF. If you make use of any AC3 audio filters (such as ac3filter/others included in codec packs/media player softwares) then please change their output device back to SPDIF. You may also wish to change back your output format to 92KHz/24 bits (right click on SPDIF and select properties -> Advanced tab).

Problem with Java and Windows (Mainly Vista and UAC)

I am having a problem with a program that I've devoloped. The program itself is packaged as a jar and I plan to deploy it across multiple platforms eventually however right now i am only concerned about windows based systems. I have made an installer for a windows baised systems using NSIS to install the software files. I made the installer as I need several java packages to be installed so the program would work (JAI, J3D, JAI ImageIO) and I also require the program to have fileassociations on windows.
I know that this is not what java is about, however the majority of the users will be on windows baised systems so I've decided that OS specific installers is the best option.
During the process I have noticed that there are several key problem with java for this type of application!
The first issue that I have come across is getting file associations to work on java. As a .jar is not an excutable it is not possible to directly associate a filetype with it in java so to overcome this I currently run the program from a .bat files and also the program requires large memory so this also allows me to run the program with -xmx. The batch file that I use is :

Ok so all this appears to work fine and allows windows to have file associations and start the program and thats all works perfectly but this is a non-ideal solution. Has anyone got any advice on improving this?
The next problem that I have appears to be a problem with Vista and UAC (user access control). When a user installs the program and installs the program into the program files directory I found that the program did not work and kept saying that I did not have access to the files in the current directory. This is a problem as I read and write settings files during program execution.
On a Vista system UAC prevents file write operations into the Program Files directory unless the program has requested elevated status even if the user is a full administrator. The probem is that there appears to be no real way to achieve this under java that I'm aware of...
Has anyone else had this probem and has a suitable solution?
Any advice on these issues would realy be appricated.

Ok so i've kinda found a solution, its not ideal but its very good. I found this program called Elevate

This program allows you start java with a UAC dialog for high access using
Elevate java -jar myjar.jar
This then allows you to have full access using java... I guess it could be dangerous but it does the job.

by "repair" I mean I went to the control panel, option - programs and features, and in the list of all my installed programs I selected "Apple Software Update". On top of the screen you find the options Uinstall, Change and Repair. I clicked the repair button and that did the trick. After the repair I could uninstall the program. I also uninstalled iTunes, Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support en Bonjour, thus all Apple programs. Then I installed iTunes 10.5 again and everything went fine.

Hi, i'm working on a project that involves inputing from a microphone, running it through a filter and then an FFT, and then doing some analysis on the data. For the input from the microphone, i'm having some issues. I basically drew all of the input functionality from the "Continuous Sound input.vi" example vi, which works on my computer, with a microphone and does display the signal. However, when i copied that over and modify it a little, the Sound read has either one of two errors. When i place the "Sound Clear" sub vi outside of the inner while loop, the Sound Read sub vi appears to have some sort of error relating to overflowing the buffer (i think 4822, but not 100%), no matter how low i put the samples/second and elapsed time function to exit the loop. If i put the Sound Clear sub vi INside the loop (not how it is in the continuous sound input vi, then i get error 4801, described here:

Error 4801 is given because the sound driver in Windows Vista disables the microphone and line-input jacks when it does not detect a source plugged into the jack. The hardware is disabled by the Windows Operating System, not National Instruments software or drivers. This behavior is not seen on XP computers, only on Vista.
The resolution is to plug in a microphone or audio source to the computer. Windows Vista will detect the microphone or audio source, and error 4801 will be resolved.

This seems very strange that i should recieve this error, as i am running win7, not vista, and have a microphone plugged in. The microphone jack is working - i've tested that with other programs and the continuous sound input.vi, so it works just fine. I just have no idea what to do at this point to fix the problem. Thank you for the detailed explanation of your issue. To begin, the reason you are getting the overflow error is because the number of samples needs to be 1/10th of the sample rate. Next, you need to have the Sound Input Clear.vi outside of your while loop because you are clearing the task immediately after you read, so the next time it goes to read, it won't find the stream anymore. Finally, to see if Windows recognizes your microphone, use the Acquire Sound Express VI and check the drop down menu to see if your microphone is listed (use the device ID to set the control back in the Continuous Sound Input.vi). I suggest getting your microphone to work with the Continuous Sound Input.vi first and then add you modifications later. Hope this helps!
