Vista +xFi = terrible experience in windo

Before i begin i would like to clarify that this issue only manifests inside windows itself when windows tries to play a .wav based sound (i.e system sounds etc)
i primarily use the machine for media center which appears to greatly reduce the problem however whenever i navigate around the windows interface and action that generates a system sound (web surf, close window etc) generates the following.
a static type noise (i.e thud or whoosh) followed by the tail end of the .wav
does anyone know what to do about this as its destroying my creative labs experience!
regards,
Daniel.

Wow! Did you miss the target! Third-party software incompatibility with a new OS is not to be resolved by the OS manufacturer. The burden is on the application vendor, who, hopefully, receives help when requested from Microsoft.
Frankly, Apple's slow movement on the compatibility issues, and their surprisingly non-communicative approach (one post on Feb 1st that said "in a few weeks?) have soured me to Apple. I thought they were different.

  • Yoga 2 Pro - Broken in less than a year - A terrible experience with IdeaPads

    Hi guys!
I'm hear to tell everyone about my pretty terrible experience with Lenovo and my Yoga 2 Pro IdeaPad. It's not a review or anything but more of a forewarning to those who are thinking of buying from Lenovo.
I'm also here to help others out in my situation, that is, if you are stuck with a half broken (or in my case, completely faulty) laptop and Lenovo won't help you out (fixes are in italics).
    The beginning
So I bought a Yoga 2 Pro at BestBuy in the USA about a year ago. I live in Australia so I asked about international warranty and they said that the notebook is covered by international warranty.
The day the screen flashed black and white
About a few months in the screen began flashing black and white rapidly (it goes from black to white about twice a second) for about 30 seconds to a minute. I found that you can stop this from happening if you open and close the lid a couple of times. Not really a big issue unless you set your laptop to go to sleep/shutdown when you close the lid. I don't so everything was fine.
The day the Wi-Fi NIC stopped working properly
So then a couple of months after that my Wi-Fi began to play up. I recently found out that you can prevent this from happening by ensure that you don't put any pressure on the sides of the base of the laptop (Eg. don't put your elbow on the side of the laptop and hold your head up with the same elbow).
I also worked out a while ago that you can get the Wi-Fi to work again if you go Right click Wireless Icon->Network And Sharing Center->Change Adapter Settings->Right Click Wi-Fi->Disable it->Renable it
    Here comes the bad stuff...
    Screws began to fall out
So then the screws began to fall out. I screwed a couple back in when they were wobbly but they eventually fell out without me realising. This suggests that the screw holdings have poor quality threading and as a result the screws begin to fall out. I now have 5 out of 11 screws on the backplate of notebook.
    And also the screw holdings.
Yup, the actually thing that the screw screws into fell out as well. About three of them fell out. I don't know how it could possibly do so but it did, it happened when I picked up my laptop from the desk.
And then the charger socket broke
I can no longer charge my laptop -> I now have a very expensive beverage coaster
So then the charger socket cracked in half too! Again, not really sure how it happened but it did, it might possibly be from the heat of the laptop causing the plastic to expand when heated and retract when cooled. I have the i7 CPU version so it may get hotter than normal.
The laptop no longer charges so I no longer have a laptop to use (I use my desktop to work (and occasionally my phone)).
Not to worry! I'll just make use of my international warranty...?
And then the customer service were not helpful:
And then they said I didn't have international warranty...
And then they admitted that I did...
And then they claimed international warranty does not apply in Australia...
So I emailed Lenovo customer service and they kept claiming that my notebook did not have international warranty.
I talked to Jessica, Jason, Jai, Jasmin, Jackie (why are there so many J's?) and Adam.
Eventually one of them admitted that I do have international warranty but it is not supported in Australia. How convenient for them.
The notebook has never been dropped
I am the only user of the notebook
The notebook is kept in a padded laptop bag.
I was very polite to customer service.
All I'm left with is a very expensive notebook that doesn't actually work.
As a result I can only strongly recommend that you avoid buying from Lenovo. I worry for those who have bought Yoga 3 Pro, with it's watch band design and all.
Here are some pictures I took a few weeks ago (I photoshopped the stickers out):

Same issues with my Yoga, from India.
Screen (twice), wifi, charger and battery issues, SERVICE issues, no screws in the back...
Beside that my laptop USB and bluetooth is also not working and it is soo slow...
I just bought a non lenovo charger.
Yes and my laptop never left my office table.
I was hoping to fix it in Australia and I guess not.

  • My terrible experience of joining BT

I thought I would share with the forum my terrible experience of joining BT.  Below is a copy of the email I have sent Warren Buckley, Managing Director of BT Customer Service.
What was your experience of joing like?  Better than mine I hope.
    Dear Warren,
I want to let you know what a terrible experience I have had joining BT, I have only been a customer for 2 days and already regretting moving provider.
    * I placed an order for the full package via BT online on 11/08/13.  My order reference was BTCOMxxxxxxxxx.  My landline number is 01100000000)  I ordered the full package, landline, Infinity Fibre BB and BT TV with BT Sport.
    * I received a confirmation letter of my order on 13/08/13, confirming the phone line would be connected 12/09/13, great news.
    * I received an email requesting my MAC code on 13/08/13 which I replied to with the code the next day (included below)
    * I called BT Care the week before my phone line activation date to confirm when delivery of the TV and BB equipment would be made.  I was told it would arrive on 10/09, the equipment did not arrive.
    * I called BT care again and was told the equipment would arrive on the day of activation, still nothing.
    * I called several times yesterday and today and was promised that the 'offline' team would call me today to schedule delivery of my BT TV box by Saturday 14th before 1pm.  No call was received.
    * I spoke to the BT care team who advised that something had gone wrong with my order and it needed to be replaced.  It would now be installed on 04/10.  Further as the order had been replaced through the call centre I would not be able to claim the Sainsbury's voucher..  Also I needed to call back with the below MAC code as it couldn't be found.
The key reason I choose to move to BT was for BT Sport.  I will not be able to watch the first Bath Rugby home game of the season tomorrow being shown on BT sport, getting out of the house isn't an option due to the recent birth of our lovely 10 day old boy.  In short BT has ruined my weekend and wasted a great deal of my time.
Please can you confirm how my experience can be dramatically improved ASAP as I am highly dissatisfied.  A good start would be enabling my account so I can watch the match through the BT sport app on my mobile phone.  I have registered a complaint with the care team and been made aware of a 10 day SLA for contact to be made with me to discuss.
    Regards,

    Hi Stu8288

  • Terrible experience ordering

    Hi,
I'm having a terrible experience for ordering Adobe Creative Cloud here in Belgium.
First I made a pre-purchase got an e-mail this morning that my order was cancelled due to a credit card reason but no more explanation.
Made another error but got a few times an error, the fourth time when changing the abbreviated word for "street" which was "str" to street it worked but the order doesn't get validated.
I called local support to verify and it got status manual, they advised me to cancel the order and to enter a new one. So that's what I did, i called support again and they told me it has the manual status again. They cancelled it again and told me to wait for an hour to place a new order. That's what I did but still the same, they told me to try with my wife's card. Result was a little bit different, got an e-mail back in 15 minutes that this one was also not accepted.
So I called regional support (UK) because local one was closed already. There was a helpful lady who tried everything but couldn't help and she told me she would create a case and gave the case number to me which was #208330874. She told me she would transfer me to a technician, this guy didn't understand well English and beside that he said only ": sorry can't help you call back later on Monday....
Guys this is so terrible, an ordering system that is just not working and is not informing on the real cause of the problem. I keep turning in circles. I did verify everything on my side but everything should be fine.
Adobe please fix this asap and give at least the reason why an exact reason why a credit card is rejected otherwise it's like running in circles getting nowhere. Took me a whole day already and still have nothing but "not accepted" ones.
So once again, please fix asap !

Don't think chat support will be of any help. The only info i will get from them is that it needs manually to be activated and I will need to wait until Monday.
As told above I contacted the company of the credit card and those ones told me everything was ok with my balance and credit. They looked at the orders that were submitted and saw the one from Adobe was rejected because of an invalid expiration date of the card although the correct one was submitted when ordering (May 2015). In order to test an issue with my card I placed and order in the Google play store and that one got through without any issue. The credit card company saw that as well and said this was an another indication that there was nothing wrong with my card.
So followed up what Gautam asked and result is that there's no issue with my card. So perhaps wrong data is transmitted from the Adobe said. It could eg be that month and year are swapped thus resulting in the error. Date notation is different between US and Europe. US is I guess Year/Month and Europe is Month/Year.
I don't get it why this is going wrong now i previously placed orders already with Adobe with the same card and got no issues, i'm clueless and hope this can be solved asap because it's frustating.
If needed I can send document scans of whatever to proof this is no cause of fraud or whatever  but that will need to be done via private mail.
Don't think I can do much more now than hoping Adobe get this resolved...

  • Vista + XFI + 5.1 Speaker prob

Hi,I'd just like to ask whether anyone else is having issues with Vista + XFI + 5. speakers?Specifically, I'm having problem with the speakers not lining up with the sounds that windows gives in?control panel -> hardware & sound -> manage audio devices ->speakers->configure->test?My left/right,sub,back left/right don't match up (in fact, my back left doesn't seem to work at all). I haven't made any changes to the speaker wiring since upgrading to Vista from XP64, so I'm relati'vely confident its not a wiring issue......... Anyone else experiencing this problem, or have any advice on what I can try?I've tried the obvious, i.e. moving the 3 x plugs around at a time to get a matchup. Cheers,?Soulsearcher?

    Duplicate post.

  • FEAR crappy sound in vista xfi fatali

I have the latest xfi driver & alchemy, but the sound in FEAR is really crappy, with distortions & sound skipping & the level is really low.Anyone know how to fix this Are there any alternate 3rd party drivers I can use Any help would be great ;( vista 32 ultimatecore 2 duo E6600asus striker extreme moboasus 8800 gtxxfi fatality2gb 667raptor

The distortion/skipping (at least in part) is just a setting in ALchemy that you need to change. Im fairly sure I had to add FEAR manually to ALchemy to install it in the first place, but I did so after doing a manual install quite some time ago where I played around with the settings. In your FEAR directory, open up the file called "dsound.ini" (double-clicking it should open it in Notepad automatically). Change the value for "Duration" from 25 to 0 (the line should now read "Duration=0"). That should solve most the stuttering, unless youve got problems akin to many other users of these forums, which I dont personally have.
If the dsound.ini file is not in the directory than ALchemy has not been properly installed for FEAR - you may need to manually install it (just add it to ALchemy - settings should be 4 Buffers, 0 Duration, 28 Maximum Voice Count, and you can leave Direct Music enabled). Interesting to note that Half-Life 2 requires a similar setting, as do some other games, so if youre having problems elsewhere it might be worth checking this setting for them as well (so far the only values Ive had to use are 25 and 0).
As for the volume levels, thats just FEAR in my experience. Speech was relatively quiet on XP Pro with an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro, and its still relatively quiet under Vista x64 Ultimate with an X-Fi Fatalty.

  • Qosmio F30-117: How Vista calculate Win Experience Index Graphics score?

My F30-117 has a Display adapter type NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600. WIE gives this a graphics score of *4.9* based on the following info:
Total available graphics memory 399 MB
    Dedicated graphics memory 128 MB
    Dedicated system memory 0 MB
    Shared system memory 271 MB
However my G40-108 has a Display adapter type NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT. WIE only gives this a graphics score of *4.4* based on the following info:
Total available graphics memory 1791 MB
    Dedicated graphics memory 512 MB
    Dedicated system memory 0 MB
    Shared system memory 1279 MB
Anyone know why? Both PCs have the latest drivers and all available Windows updates. Both are running Vista Ultimate. If anything I would expect the scores to be the other way around !

    Hi
The Windows Experience Index Vista feature that is designed to help better understand
how Windows Vista and other software will perform on your computer.
As far as I know the scale of the Windows Experience Index ranges from 1.0 to 5.9.
A higher base score means that your computer will perform better as a computer with a lower score.
I dont want to explain the whole features because there are many useful Microsoft pages which already provide such informations:
    Check this:

  • Terrible Experience

I hate to be that guy, but after multiple issues with Best Buy's coupons, customer service rep, "Birthday coupons", etc, I have to say something.
I recently purchased (or tried to) a Netgear Night Hawk R7000 frome BestBuy.com and elected for store pick-up (something I need today because my router is on its last leg) and used a 10% off coupon. The nearest Best Buy near me closes at 8PM, so I figured ordering this at 5 PM would mean that I get it today, but I guess not. After waiting a couple of hours, I decided to check the website for my order status (I received a paypal confirmation with the order number) , saw that the amount had already been taken out of my paypal account, but the website could not find my order. So I decided to call customer service. Spoke with a tech named Sean, states that it is a "ghost order" and that I will need to wait 72 hours for it to drop off. Now, I dont know if you're familiar with Paypal, but that means I wont get my money back until next week! Terrible, but I get it, system glitch, that's fine. I decided to order it again as this is something I need and tried using my coupon, but it states that its already been used . Decided to call once more in hopes that I can somehow get that reset or get another coupon generated for me, spoke with a rude rep who transferred me to another rep, but this lady pretty much told me that there is no such thing as a movers special coupon nor can it be used online. We literally argued for 20 mins until she told me she'd look into it...was put on hold for awhile (honestly thought shed hung up) only to come back to tell me that my coupon is the reason why my order didnt work, since it couldnt be applied and that its for in-store only. What?! It did apply! Plus, Im looking at the d*mn thing and it has an online code! Argued again, she said for me to wait 48 hours and the system might see my order and I can procced to pick-up the item. At that point, I hung up.
Anyways, sorry for the long post, but mods, please reach out to me. I will give you my Order Number and please ensure that this order gets dropped. I will be purchasing this at Amazon instead. Again, this isn't the first time Best Buy had given me issues when trying to save a couple of bucks by using a coupon (Yes, I read the exclusions and ensured that the item I want is not part of it), but this will definitely be the last time I'll be purchasing here unless something gets changed. It's too bad, you and Frys used to be my favorite places to go to pick up tech related items.
Hate to say it, but I'll probably just use your store as an Amazon Showroom from this point on.

    Hello Anothermike-
It definitely sounds like you’ve had a frustrating experience with our support teams regarding your Netgear order.  I’m sorry to hear that what should have been an easy order process became so complicated.
It does look like the first order was a “ghost order”, which means that the system accepted the order and usually it will generate an order number, but it never makes it completely through the system.  Since the order never gets fulfilled, your PayPal payment should drop off, unfortunately, we don’t have any control over how quickly they will drop it.
Regarding the coupon, I absolutely apologize that the agent you spoke with was uninformed about the moving coupons and how they work.  As you were able to determine, there are versions of the moving coupon that work online and in-store, and it sounds like you were using the correct version.  With the ghost order, the coupon would show that it had been redeemed, unfortunately, since we cannot see the ghost order, it’s difficult for us to determine if it’s been used or not on that order.  I will certainly be documenting your feedback regarding this agent so that it can be addressed as a training opportunity.
Regrettably, your current order has already been picked at the store, so we are unable to cancel it.  At this point, you have a couple of choices: you can go into the store to complete the order and then return it back to the store or wait 8 days without picking up the order, at which point our system will consider the order abandoned and cancel it.  However, that would mean that it would take about 8 days for the order to cancel and then whatever time frame PayPal has to return your funds.  My recommendation would be to stop in the store at this point.
I have some additional details for you, so I will be sending you a Private Message.  You can check your Private Messages by logging into the forum and clicking on the envelope in the upper right hand corner.
I apologize for any inconvenience that this has caused you.

  • Terrible Experience With Lenovo X200

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has had any similar problems with their X200's as I have because Lenovo customer service has been absolutely terrible so far and I have no idea what to do.
First of all, when I first received my computer there was a big gap between the plastic bezel/border of the LCD and the screen itself. Second, I had a couple dead pixels and some other weird brown spots that seemed to get worse every week (maybe dirt getting inside the gap?). Third, ethernet cords would not fit into my ethernet jack (it would not 'click' in). Fourth, the feet of the laptop were not level with a flat table and the laptop would rock when I typed on it. And finally, the lid does not close properly... it seems like its curved.
The problem is that I am a university student and I want this laptop to last for my entire undergrad. I bought a Lenovo because I heard it was the best quality I could ever get, but so far I am very dissapointed.
When I first got it, I immediately tried to return or replace it. I was told by customer service to fax in some information/receipts to them. I did all of that but I never got a response. I remember that I called in many times, but I was still never able to get a replacement. After it had been 21 days, apparently I wasn't allowed to return it... even though I had tried to return almost everyday before then. Also, I live in Canada and it took over 7 weeks just to receive it in the first place. And as I said before, I am a university student, and this was the only computer I have so I couldn't go computer-less for 7 weeks. So, at that point I decided to give up with customer service and continue with my studying.
After my school was over, my only option was to bring it in to a warranty service provider because customer service said that the repair depot did not have the parts. I went back home in the summer (to a pretty remote place of Canada) where there is only one service provider (who was not a Premium Partner). They attempted to fix everything, but the fact that they are not premium service providers really shows... They replaced the screen, but the gap still exists and they said it cannot be fixed (which makes me think the screen will just fail again) and the bezel that they replaced anyways is clearly scratched. They replaced the motherboard to fix the broken ethernet jack as well, but they scratched my computer all over in the process, which is really frustrating. On top of that, they gave it back to me half falling apart with the keyboard tray not fit in properly, a bunch of loose screws, and the lid unable to close. I had to go back to them several times just to fix these problem. Now, I can still see components of the computer underneath the keyboard (that I never noticed before) which probably renders the drip-tray somewhat useless. Also, there are now little wires that run alongside the metal hinges of the LCD that are slowly being cut away everytime I open or close the lid. I never noticed theses wires before either.
I'm done dealing with these "service providers" so I called customer service again. They said that they will not return or replace the computer because it is well past the 21 days. The only way I can get a chance of getting this fixed would be to send it to the depot, which would take over 5-6 weeks I'm sure. As I said before, this is my only computer, and I am taking a summer distance education course, so this is not an option. Plus, I am very skeptical that they would actually fix anything anyways.
Is there anything I can do at this point? It was Lenovo's fault I wasn't able to return it in the first place when I actually had the time to wait, but they still won't give a replacement... Does any one else have this gap between the LCD and the bezel, were you able to get it fixed?
I'm considering just taking a loss and selling this on eBay so I can buy a Dell like I always have before because this is definitely the worse computer I have ever owned. Sorry for such a long message, and thanks to anyone who actually reads it all. Any input is appreciated.

    Dsp4,
I'll try to help.  Please send me a private message with your contact information - name, address, phone, and also the model and serial from the bottom of your system.
Please give us a couple days to research the case and get in touch with you to work out an appropirate resolution...
Apologies for your experiences thus far...

Me and my family felt that an upgrade from our cable internet that is 15 megabits a second was needed so in january of this year, we made the switch. Talking on the phone to a representative, they said we could purchase a 20 megabyte a second internet plan, a bunch of movie television programs for free for making the switch, and a home phone line. The representative told us if 250$~ (not sure if this was the exact number) was going to be our total including tax and he said yes, we "would not pay a penny more". We decided to do the complete switch from cable, and purchased internet, TV, and home phone services from at&t. A few days after ordering, we called again to make ssure of everything and yet again, we were promised 20 megabyte a second internet. A couple days later, a technician arrives and yet again, my mother asks and makes sure if it's 20 megabyte a second internet. I get home from school to check out the new internet and I run a speed test. I remember being really excited switching from a sub par 15 megabit internet to a better 20 megabyte internet. The speed test ends and sure enough, it was 20 megabit internet. It astonishes that not one, not two, but 3 at&t representatives did not know the difference between a megabit and a megabyte. Not only that, but the initial representative that told us that the free movie channels that adds no cost for making the switch added a ton of money to the bill and it was much more than 250$ even after deducting those channels. We called again and say that we were lied to about the frree channels and about the bill. The representative said they were sorry and would remove the channels. They then said "how long have you been using at&t phone services?" we responded with around 10 years or so and we had just made the switch to other at&t services. They said they could give us a family plan of 30gb a month because we had been with them for so long. We responded that we did not want to do that because 2 of us 5 have unlimited data and we didnt want to give that up. They said we could get a family plan for only the 3 that dont have unlimited data for a cheaper bill than what we pay for the month. We were happy we had fixed the initial issue and we were being given these 30gb a month for a cheaper price. A couple days later, my mother tells me that in the bill they had charged us more than what were paying before the 30gb plan that was addded in when we were promised that it would benefit us and that it would be cheaper. We call again and have it removed and put it back to the way it was originallly. After all of this, there are still problems. The internet is awful. Not only was I immensely dissapointed that it was 20 megabits instead of the promised 20 megabytes (for those of you that dont know, one megabit = 1/8 of a megabyte so I expected internet that was 8 times as fast than what we received), but also, it was extremely slow at times. Skype calls suddenly drop, internet fails, netflix quality buffers, online gaming freezes. Everything is extremely slow. Even when no one is using it, it's terribly slow. We have called over 3 people in the last couple of months to try and fix this and everytime they come they say it will be better or it will be fixed. And even after they "fix it" the internet quality is still horrible. The most recent time that someone had come to our house to check out what's wrong, as I explained to him that while I would play an online game my ping would be very high. For those of you that don't know what ping is, it is the following: "The ping is the reaction time of your connection–how fast you get a response after you've sent out a request. A fast ping means a more responsive connection, especially in applications where timing is everything (like video games). Ping is measured in milliseconds (ms)". Now, ideally you should never have above 100 ping as that will make the game very choppy. So I explained to the guy who came to our house that my ping while playing these games could literally reach the thousands (keep in mind, that above a hundred is already bad and I wouldd reach 1 thousand). My mother asked the man if he understood what I was saying and he said "no". So apparently, the man did not understand what ping was. This isn't a videogame term or anything, it's used very frequently when performing a speed test or troubleshooting internet issues. You would think that a guy who works for at&t would know this. And I know you must be thinking that maybe when a lot of people are using the internet then the internet quality might suffer and that's why my ping is high. Well, even when no one is home and I'm the only one using the internet and every other computer is off or unplugged, the internet still has random spikes of horrid connection and my ping still spikes to 500 and up to 1,500. I have friends who have different internet service providers and don't have more than 30 megabits a second (I have 25) and do not suffer from any of these issues. I'm honestly very tired of all the problems that we have been having and the lack of knowledge that the at&t representatives have. As soon as our contract is over we will be making the switch to another ISP.

  • Is Vista XFi Install disk need

    Hey all,
After 6 months, I've finally finished my new(?) build, which includes vista ultimate & an XFi fatality. The SC was my first purchase 6 months ago & didn't include a vista install disk, however do I need one? Can I just install the latest downloaded drivers & alchemy & start playing? TIA.
    tryggvi

I hope you are running on less than 4GB of RAM. Otherwise, you are probably going to have issues. There's plenty of threads on that, so I'll skip it unless you ask about it.
Yes, you can install the latest drivers that you downloaded from Creative. The install disk has other software programs on it, such as THX console. If you need any of the other programs, search for "YouP-PAX."

  • MyFICO Terrible Experience

I called in to myfico customer service today to discuss why my Experian score has not updated in 2 weeks. I explained there have been increases in credit lines and new accts added. Multiple triggers. Equifax and Transunion updated right away, Experian not so much.
The rep I was speaking with went on about how its Experians responsibility to send them the update. I explained to her that I pay myfico, it's their responsibility to get me what I pay for.
I then tell her my monitoring service with credit check totals updates with no problem. So there is no issue with Experian. The rep puts me on hold, comes back and say - we've been noticing that if a customer has Experian monitoring in addition to myfico, Experian does not send updates regularly. Corporate sabatoge! LMAO....
I told her that was a poor excuse to use and I signed up for the other monitoring service just short of a week ago. There is no funny games being played, just poor service from her. I canceled my myfico subscription right after the call.
    Terrible customer experience.

this has been addressed in your earlier post.
Your bill shows you were paying for insurance
A stolen phone is blacklisted and can never be used again.
Only the user (you) knows the screen unlock code and Apple ID password . ATT NEVER has this information, never ever. So they could not have unlocked your iPhone.
If you had find my iPhone active, or used it to track and lock your iPhone, it would be bricked now and not usable by the thief.
You initially suspended your phone. This is good for 30 days, after which it is automatically re activated.

  • Flash with vista giving terrible playback

    Hi,
I've recently purchased (within the last week) a new PC with
Vista Home Premium edition installed. I've had my fair share of
issues which has resulted in a couple of reboots, more Vista
problems and compatability than anything else
However, I'm now running a system which seems to be working
OK however through internet explorer or moxilla firefox whatever
browser I chose when I go to watch an online video, whether it be a
youtube clip, or a media club from a website, movie, news bulletin
etc I get terrible playback. Constant pausing, jumping, stuttering
and basically it's totally unplayable. I was onto Windows (In
india!) themselves today for around 2 hours installing codecs,
uninstalling DVD RW software etc and the guy on the phone drew a
complete blank and ended up passing it to his senior technical bods
who are looking into this. Does anybody have any ideas or
suggestions? I am totally at my wits end with this, to my knowledge
Java and Flash are both up to date. I've played a DVD through
Windows Media Player and that worked fine, it only seems to be a
problem with website videos. If I can get over this problem I can
try to move on with setting up my new PC, all help or suggestions
    greatly appreciated
    Many Thanks
    Cuzer

I thought of something else:  Tracert always times out around the 11th hop.  I also found an online tracert application on the opposite side of the country that reliably times out as it approaches the same server.  I even tried resetting the time out to something ridiculous like 100,000 ms and it times out still.
I realize this doesn't mean much, since unicast routing is asynchronous (so the path from hbogo to me is probably different than from me to them), I might be getting hot-potatoed, and the protocol on which tracert relies combined with the low importance of its packet's information means that its most likely to be tossed out by a server (giving me the fasle positive that packet loss derives from a server which doesn't feel like responding to tracert requests).
Despite the fact that tracert is diagnostically weak, is there any way that low-level stuff like latency could affect how Flash decodes the video?  The buffer seems full everytime I check it, so I don't know how it could, but then again, I don't know much about networking in the first place.
Oh, I'm in Philadelphia,  the online tracert utility I think was in California, and I'm pretty sure the HBOgo video server is somewhere near Texas.
