Visual Themes

As an "gift" for upgrading I received, from the Adobe website a zip file entitled 4 Elements Visual Themes for Acrobat X.zip with four .swf file which are, I hope, related to creating portfolios in Acrobat X.  However, opening the .zip, there is no indication where I should place the .swf files. Any ideas?  tks....

Just upgraded from Adobe Reader 9 to Reader 10.0.1 After this upgrade Adobe Reader runs with windows 7 visual themes diabled. How do I set Adobe Reader to use windows visual themes so that it looks and feels the same as other programs on the same system. I tried to uninstall and re-install Reader and it did not help the issue. This is on a HP Envy 17 Laptop with Windows 7 x64 Ultimate.

  • How do I open the Special Edition Acrobat X PDF Portfolio themes?

I chose these themes as my complimentary benefit when I installed Acrobat X, and downloaded the ZIP file to my hard drive without incident.  I then extracted the files within the ZIP file.  However, when I open Acrobat, and attempt to import the four themes, my browser won't recognize that the files are there - and I have no option to search for "All Files" or otherwise change the three-letter extension.
Am I going about this the wrong way?
    Tom

In Acrobat X PDF Portfolios there are two levels of "templates" to customize the style of the document interface.
A Layout (internally called a "navigator") has the file extension .NAV and controls the layout of the Portfolio, the way the cards animate, where the scrollers are, and so forth. Layouts are written in Flex.
A Theme is a SWF file "skin" which is applied over the top of a Navigator - this is what's in the Special Edition pack. Standalone Themes are usually drawn in Flash Pro or Illustrator, and contain no code. They're simply a collection of graphics with pre-defined symbol names.
To apply a Theme, create/open a PDF Portfolio in Acrobat X Pro, and from the Edit Pane, choose Visual Themes -> Import Custom Theme, and select the SWF. It will be embedded into the PDF Portfolio, but won't be permanently-added to the Acrobat panes. Themes can be applied to almost any Layout, but each time you change the Layout your theme will be reset.
There's a detailed video explaining how all these things work on AUC.

How do I fix my left shift key? Any open windows leave and make the desktop visible. I have tired to go into system preferences and reset all of the keyboard settings to default but the issue hasn't gone away.

You are not running as administrator, I think, which may be required and the only way to properly work and register. Also check for compatibility mode settings, UAC and DEP, all of which may require to be adjusted for a legacy app like PS CS2 to run properly. Also turn off Aero and switch to a conventional visual theme. The brush issue may be related to that or is a more generic problem with your graphics card and mouse config, but since you didn't provide any info on that, it will be hard for anyone to advise.

  • Illustrator 10 compatible with Windows Vista?

I'm looking to purchase Illustrator 10 (can't afford the $600 for CS3). Is it compatible with windows vista? I've been all over the Adobe website, but there is no information pertaining to any upgrades or FAQs on the subject.

You'll be trying to run an old version of Illustrator (now at v.13) on an operating system with which it was never tested, so all bets are off.
However, users have reported success with Illustrator versions going back as far as 8. After installation, you will most likely need to do the following:
Right-click on the Illustrator EXE file, choose properites, click the compatibility tab, and then select...
    * Disable Visual Themes
    * Disable Desktop Composition
    * Disable display scaling on high DPI machines
It's going to be difficult to purchase a legal copy of such an old version.
    Caveat emptor.
Also make sure you update to 10.0.3.

  • CS3 and windows 7.

I have cs3 and windows 7 64 bit.  I was able to run cs3 in xp, but everytime I try 7 it hangs up right before it asks for my serial number.  The installation is perfect, everything goes great, but when I open cs3 it opens up a blank cs3 window, and the curser timer starts and that is all.  when I click anywhere it says "not responding".
I have heard of this before in this forum... http://forums.adobe.com/thread/377888
The guy was running vista and got it to work through this.... http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3750
But I am running windows 7 and vista doesnt work on here, is there a license thing for windows 7?
I have been looking for weeks!!!!
    I reformated my pc twice!
    Someone PLEASE help.
    Thank you.

Little confused here. How can CS3 install perfect when the serial number is not installed?
When you install PS CS3 on Windows 7 you have to install the software itself as Admin. Put the disk in but don't install. Choose explore the disk or open and then look for the PS CS3 folder. Open the folder and locate the .exe file. Right click on the .exe file and select run as Admin.
Before you do the install ensure windows defender is turned off. Ensure any anti-virus is not running. If adobe reader is installed remove it. ensure no other adobe product is running in the background.
I do not have CS3 installe but when CS4 is installed on windows 7 it will hang around 90 percent complete and will take 10 to 15 mins to finish. Might not be true for CS3 though....
    After install, reboot computer.
After reboot, go to start, all programs and right click on PS CS3. Choose properties, compatibility, and check run as Admin. Hit apply then ok to close.
Click on PS CS3 to see if it will start. If it runs update to 10.0.1
Now if you have any problems running CS3 after all this right click on PS CS3, properties, compatibility, and check run this program in compatibility mode for: Choose Vista SP2. If you have display problems then go back to this tab and check disable visual themes and also check Disable desktop composition.
Hudechrome, a regular poster on here, has installed CS3 on Windows 7 before so maybe he might chime in with his words of wisdom (or something like that). I am not sure if he did what i wrote to install CS3 on windows 7. I error on a caution side of things.

  • Photoshop CS4 crashes after starting up

    Hi all,
Before I buy Photoshop CS4 Extended, I wanted to install the trial first.
The install was succesfully finished, so i started PS.
When i choose for making a new file, i see the screen where you can select the size of the picture.
When i click OK, Windows says: Photoshop CS4 has stopped working.
Now I only can close the program or debug. Debugging doesn't help.
Running in XP mode of disable visual themes doesn't help also..
I'm running dual boot (Vista Ultimate and Windows 7 Ultimate), and on windows 7 it all works great.
Does anyone have a solution for this weird problem?
    My computer specs are:
Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 32-bit (fully updated)
    Asus P5Q3 Motherboard with 4GB DDR3 RAM
Asus ATI HD 4870 1G Dark Knight graphics card (with the latest driver update - may 15 2009)
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 (2,8 Ghz)
Other adobe programs just runs fine, but PS keeps crashing..
Im sorry for my bad English..
I hope someone can help me with this, i really like to purchase PS and work with it..
    Regards,
    Tim
    edit:
by the way, photoshop cs2 and cs3 worked fine..

    Hi,
Thanks for the fast relpies. I like to hear my English is OK. I've got to make my English school exams next week!
I checked the permissions of the Photoshop folders in my user directory (if you mean the 'read only' and 'hide' things..?)
All directories were 'read only', but when I uncheck this, it comes back after I click on the properties of the directory again.
Anyway, my account has administrator rights and my UAC is off. (the 'do you really want to' blahblah.. and the virtual directories)
So I don't think the problem is based on permissions.. It also isn't my virusscanner, because when I turn it off (I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2009) the problem still isn't solved.
Maybe useful: I didn't add any plug-ins for PS. I only installed it.
Yes, it will also crash if i input a arbitrary resolution.
Even if i want to load a picture.. jpg or psd, it keeps crashing.
When I select a picture and click OK, it will load.. but before i can even move my mouse.. it crashes.
So, when I see the 'crash screen' of Windows Vista, i can see the picture at the back.
I also checked the event viewer, and there i can see the application error i also got in PS.
I can't find anything about the licensing service. What is the name of this service? Then I can check if it's on in the task manager.
I updated PS as well. But still, no results. I attached the error message and translated someting in English. (my Windows is Dutch).
I really hope you can help me with this!
    Regards,
    Tim
Edit: I think I forgot the most important!! When I start PS, there comes a warning, before the 30 day trial screen.
It says I've got to download the newest drivers for my graphics card.. but I allready did that. It also says it will turn off the GPU settings in PS.
When I turn this back on, PS gives an error after the loading screen. So then i can't see the interface then. When I restart it, PS automaticly turned off the GPU settings, and it is back to the old problem. I also attached another picture in this post, and tried to translate it. But when you see this screen, maybe you will recognize it.

  • Help installing Photoshop CS3 on a new computer

I contacted Adobe online customer support on 11/16/09 because Photoshop CS3 would not run on my new laptop (HP  with Vista Premium Home Edition 64bit).  Adobe responded 6 - 7 days later with info that I had already tried or which did not work.  With little or no success and FEW responses form Adobe, I finally tried the 1-800 phone line for customer service.  After two days on the phone, three separate calls and over 7 hours of phone time, I am actually worse off than I was before.  Additionally, SEVERAL of the things that the various techs told me to do directly contradicted the previous tech's instructions OR turned out to be incorrect.
Here's the problem: Initially, the program was on a Compaq laptop (XP w/32 bit operating system).  This worked fine, but the computer died.  When I reinstalled the program on the new system, it installed successfully, but will not run.  After the two days online with tech support, now the program will not successfully complete installation.  Adobe has hung up on me (mysteriously disconnected) twice and refused to give me access to a supervisor three different times.  Does anyone have a direct access phone or email of someone I can reach directly?  I don't know where to turn next.

Try tunning the software as admin. Right click on the icon, choose properties, compatibility then check run as admin.
Not sure if you did this:
You also have to install the software as admin. But when you insert the disk just let it run and if something pops up on the screen close out of it. Instead go to computer, look for the drive that has the DVD in it. Right click on it and you want to open or explore (not sure what is shown). But choose one of those and then look for the .exe file that will install the software. Right click on that and choose to run as Admin.
So if you can open the software after running as admin and everything is fine your good to go. If you can open the softeware but the install is borked you need to reinstall. If you can deactive the software if it is not acting right (save you from calling in)
If you deinstall you need to run the Clean script at level 3 (at the most)
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs3clean.html
Run the microsoft clean up utility
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Do you have vista SP2? if not download the windows 4.5 installer. SP2 has it.
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5a58b56f-60b6-4412-95b9-54d056d6f 9f4&displaylang=en
after all that fun stuff go to msconfig and ensure there are no other adobe products that are checked to run on start up.
Reboot and I would defrag too.
Turn off windows defender and any anti virus.
Insert disk but don't load from there. Go to your computer and run it from there. you want to open or explore, then look for the .exe file and right click on that and run as admin.
Once it is running put the serial number in. also you don't want to do a full install. Just try doing Bridge and CS3. Sometimes the software is older on the disk and has problems with vista too.
With Vista expect the software to hang around 90 percent? I know this happens with CS4.
When the install is finished, reboot.
After reboot, right click on CS3, choose properties, compatibility tab and check run as Admin.
If the software does not like windows AERO then you can go back later and select disable visual themes on the compatibility tab.
When you run CS3 make sure you update the product.
don't forget to update the video card drivers from the ATI or Nvidia site if need be.

  • How do i fix my photoshop cs2 for windows 7?

I got a new comp thats is running windows 7 and installed my photoshop cs2 software and at first everything seemed fine until i noticed some differences in the performance. When i try to draw witht he brush tool it is way to slow, for example i draw a line and i pick up the mouse but the photoshop is still drawing the line that should have been done in one mouse stroke. This is very annoying and it makes it difficult to draw and create things. Also the registration form pops up every single time i open photoshop and even though i keep registering or click do not register that window just keeps showing up. My computer has 8GB of ram and 1 TB of hard drive so its not a memory issue. If anyone knows any solution please help.

  • Xcelsius 2008 Engage Won't Install in Windows 7

The installation of Xcelsius 2008 Engage completes but the program cannot be used at all because the license key is stated to be missing or invalid.
This is a common problem on other systems but it can be worked around in various ways. However the workarounds fail in Windows 7.
The required registry entries that need to be edited are not present in Windows 7. Running as administrator does not solve the problem either.
It seems Xcelsius 2008 can only be used on Windows 7 by running under an XP virtual machine.
Does anyone have a way to get Xcelsius running natively on Windows 7?
My Windows 7 system is the 64-bit release candidate. Xcelsius 4.5 runs on this but only when run as administrator and in XP SP3 compatibility mode with desktop composition and visual themes disabled.

Download the offline installer from http://helpx.adobe.com/content/help/en/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player- windows.html#main-pars_header and save it to disk, then close all browser windows and run the downloaded installer.

  • "Save as..." window - file name bug

    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3030230
    I have the same problem.
I'm using Windows XP SP3 Professional (x86). Audition version 3.0, build 7283.0. My copy is registered.
    Some additional notes:
File format doesn't matter; I've tried WAV, MP3 and FLAC.
I have tried reinstalling Audition. I uninstalled it via a program called Revo Uninstaller. I've searched through the registry after uninstallation, and could not find any leftover keys or values.
I'm not using any visual themes. The Windows service "Themes" is disabled.
Any idea how to solve this?

You've provided good information in describing your situation, thanks.  There's more likelihood that this is a Windows or graphics driver problem than with Audition.  Many of us run it on XP sp3 with great success.  I would recommend the following:
--make sure all Windows updates are current
--check your graphics card for an updated driver
--less likely to address this specific problem, but it can't hurt, is to install the Audition 3.01 update available here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=92&platform=Windows. This update is highly recommended anyway.
Should you have success with any of these options, please report which was helpful!

  • PDF Portfolios from V9 to VX

Below (first paragraph) is what I understand. My question follows paragraph. Thanks.
When you open a 9 portfolio in X, the 9 design appears as expected. Minor editing is allowed (add or delete files, edit filenames or descriptions) and can be saved in 9 format. HOWEVER, for extensive edits you must convert the portfolio to X. Then, the layout and colors convert to Click-Through layout with the Clean visual theme. Welcome pages, headers, color palettes from 9 are removed. Headers can be re-done but Welcome pages (which we use) are not supported.
So, can't do Welcome Page like I have in V9 portfolio. But, does anyone know the look/feel customization capabilities for a portfolio in X? Are custom colors allowed? How about a company logo? Is list view gone in X (user has to click through one or a handful of docs at a time)? Layout capabilities are limited in X (not like those in V9)?

You can customize Portfolios in Acrobat X (and XI) in two ways - using Flex you can create Layouts (these define how the cards behave and animate). Using Flash Pro and Illustrator you can then apply Themes (skins) to change the color and style of the elements.
Welcome screens do not exist, you can create something vaguely like them using a custom Layout but it won't have the same functionality. Joel Geraci at http://blog.practicalpdf.com has some free examples of custom designs but writing your own is a far-from-trivial Flex programming task.
See these tutorials - first one is an overview of what's possible, second is a Tech Talk recording of the process of making a Theme:

  • Can't use mouse to select colors in color picker

When I am in the Color Picker pallet and using my mouse, I can not select colors from the field or use the verticle slider bar. I can use my up/down arrows to move the little round circle, which then changes the RGB numbers. I'm in Photoshop CS2 in Windows. I tried a new document and also restarted but its still not working. Help!

Which "Windows"? There are so many of them and if this is Win 7 vs. your old CS 2, any number of things could be going on from issues with graphics drivers to specifics in the way windows are handled in W7... In any case, as a minor try a different visual theme nad make sure your graphics card configuration and driver aree suitable...

  • Possible to replace a div's scrollbar with custom graphics?

A blog-like (but not quite blog) site I'm working on requires
    a scrollable
DIV to display past entries, in an unordered list fashion,
    one entry per
    line.
The site's layout is dark (at the client's request), meaning
    that the
scrollbar for the table of contents sticks out like a sore
    thumb on
everything but IE (which allows us to color said scrollbar).
Since there's no way of coloring the scrollbar on Firefox or
    Safari, are
there widgets of any kind that will allow me to "draw" my own
    scrollbar?
This sounds like something PVII would tackle.
The div is currently absolutely-positioned, with overflow-y
    on auto and
overflow-x hidden. But like I said, that white scrollbar is
    just an eyesore
    on this layout.

Our thing is to use modern scripting to present a custom
    scrolling solution
that is accessible using mouse or keyboard, and that presents
    all content
normally when script is not enabled. To make it look like all
    OSs would not
be possible as it would require us to detect the OS
    (possible) and the
visual theme/skin being used (not possible). The other thing
    to keep in mind
is that our widgets are meant to be interface elements in the
    scope of a
larger plan - not merely to scroll basic content. Consider
    things like news
feeds, thumbnials, etc. While you can use a scripted scroller
    to scroll main
content it is usually not advisable.
That said, using overflow: auto would allow OS controls
    (except of course,
    in Safari Windows).
    > I just want a normal scrollbar, but darker than the
    default. I'm guessing
    > I'll have to come up with my own graphics for it, but
    I'd need to find the
    > code to put behind it.
Not easy since you don't know what the user's normal
    scrollbar controls look
like. You can only be sure of duplicating your normal
    scrollbars in a darker
    shade :-)

  • Illustrator 10 and Vista

I have had Illustrator 10 installed on my PC with Vista for about a year now with no problems, but now all of a sudden it won't work! I can't really afford CS3 (the only version "officially" supported by Vista) and I need Illustrator for both work and personal. Anyone else run into the same thing and have any advice??
    Thanks in advance!!!

I am using Vista 64 bit and attempting to open Illustrator 9.0.  I also experienced the same problem where Illustrator would attempt to open, but then I would receive a message saying that it stopped working.  My solution was to follow the instructions provided by Harron to right click on the Illustrator executable file and go to Properties and then select certain settings on the Compatibility tab (Disable Visual Themes, Disable Desktop Composition, and Disable Display Scaling on High DPI Settings)....
BUT I had to make one more change in order to get the program to open properly:  Check the box where it says Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 2).  Voila!  It worked.  I think this may also work for Illustrator 10.  At least you can give it a try if you still aren't able to open the older Illustrator application.  I tried everything and this was the only resolution that got it to finally work for me.
