VMWare Server from AUR freezing

So I downloaded and installed the VMWare Package from the AUR. It loads without problems, but when I try to connect to the local host in the initial dialog box, the program freezes completely. There were no errors during the configuration, so I don't know what's going on.

vmware-authd uses tcp-wrappers...so...
make sure you add the following to hosts.allow
vmware-authd: 127.0.
Unless you have hosts.allow populated with
ALL: 127.0.
Which I do... then the previous line is not needed for localhost connectivity.
Hope that helps.

  • Vmware server from aur

    Hi all,
Recently Im trying get the vmware server to work. Both vmware-server 1.0.8_126538-1 as well as vmware-server-modules 1.0.8_126538-1 have built correctly. The issue appears when I try run the server:
    $ vmware
/usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libgio-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol: g_thread_gettime
And an additional info that might help:
    $ pacman -Qo /usr/lib/libgio-2.0.so.0
    /usr/lib/libgio-2.0.so.0 is owned by glib2 2.18.3-1
Also I know that it works fine on my friend machine (packages updated to head as well as mine).
I've found an issue connected with my problem submitted on gnome bugzilla: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=543234 but the fix doesn't help.

So I'm not alone trying to get VMware working again.
I first thought of updating the PKGBUIlDs to the latest release of VMware and Linux and then would have scrapped some patches together.
However, I haven't found a working solution for that yet, so I'm going to downgrade my kernel to 26 and try it from there. That will be much easier as there are existing patches in the net to get it working with that kernel.
The problem is, that since version 2 has been released, the 1.x branch doesn't seem to be supported anymore.
Anyway, how did you compile it against 2.6.27?
Would you mind sharing your PKGBUILDS?
    Regards

  • Vmware Server web UI stops working.

I have installed Vmware Server from AUR. It seems like it works fine for a short time. I can access the web interface after the initial configuration is done. But the problem is that is suddenly stops responding after a while. I still have not got to the point where I have installed a virtual OS. I have just created the virtual machine itself.
A couple of times is has worked with restarting the Vmware daemon. But most of the time I just get an "Unable to connect" message when I try to connect to it trough Firefox. Opera gives the same result. But telnet seems to get contact.
I'm trying to get this to work in

I managed to install Windows 7 in Vmware Server yesterday. And it worked fine, except that my whole system became very unresponive together with the Windows 7 installation. But it did work. I rebooted my computer today and started up the vmware deamon, and no luck in connecting to the server. I only get an 'Unable to connect' error in Firefox. To fix this, I will have to remove /etc/vmware and install vmware-server over again.
So at the moment, Virtualbox is winning hands down. It don't slow down my hole system, and Windows feels as fast as it was running not in a VM. And it works. The only issue is very slow IO.
Vmware Workstation 6 was alot faster than the Server version. Maybe I shuld try it instead. Just have to find a PGKBUILD for it.

  • Cannot uninstall VMware Server 1.0. from Windows 7

    [pictures attached]
I tried to install VMware Server 1.0.10, but got this message:
Windows requires a digitally signed driver
A recently installed program tried to install an unsigned driver.
This version of Windows requires all drivers to have a valid digital signature.
The driver is unavailable and the program that uses this driver might not work correctly.
Uninstall the program or device that uses this driver and check the
publisher's support website to get a digitally signed driver.
    Driver: VMware bridge driver (64-bit)
    Service: VMware Bridge Protocol
    PROBLEM: cannot uninstall VMware Server
QUESTION: how can I manually uninstall VMware Server from my Windows 7?
    Thanks in advance.

If you're being flooded with this (literally every second) in /var/log/messages I would recommend applying patch 5679560 (if you have access to metalink):
Oct 16 11:05:06 vmerin su(pam_unix)[8725]: session closed for user oracle
Oct 16 11:05:06 vmerin su(pam_unix)[8768]: session opened for user oracle by (uid=0)
This will reduce the load significantly.

  • VMware-server freeze

I installed vmware-server fromt the AUR, and the installation seemed to go perfectly smoothly. The program opens, but when I select  local host on the connection options, the program freezes, and has to be killed. Any ideas as to what might cause this?

cd will work, pxe boot also if you set the vm to bridged..

  • VMware from AUR

    Hi all,
I've been trying to get Vmware Server to a usable state bun unfortunatelly I just can't get it right I've installed everything from AUR aur/vmware-server 2.0.2-1; aur/vmware-server-console 1.0.10-1 and aur/vmware-server-modules 2.0.2-3 sucessfully. The problem is when I try to run VMware I can't connect to Local and be able to do anything
    EDIT [---MORE INFO---]
I've followed the wiki here http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Vmw … stallation
    I've run
    vmware-config-server-console.pl
I've started the daemon Vmware sucessfully
    :: Starting VMware Server [DONE]
I can open VMware console with
    VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK="force" vmware-server-console
but when I select "Local host" I get the following message:
"The local VMware Server is not installed, or is not currently running. Make sure that the server is properly installed and try again."
    but it's running:
    /etc/vmware/init.d/vmware status
Bridged networking on /dev/vmnet0 is running
Host network detection is not running
Host-only networking on /dev/vmnet1 is running
DHCP server on /dev/vmnet1 is not running
Host-only networking on /dev/vmnet8 is running
DHCP server on /dev/vmnet8 is not running
NAT networking on /dev/vmnet8 is running
    Module vmmon loaded
    Module vmnet loaded
Maybe I have to run the deamon vmware-authd but I don't have on my system.
    when I run
    #vmware-authd
599 vmware-authd PANIC: getpeername failed: Socket operation on non-socket
I'think the problem is that I don't have the daemon vmware-authd wich used to be installed using the old wiki version.
Has anybody gotten VMware to work? Can anybody help me with this?
When running /etc/vmware/init.d/vmware status I've noticed
DHCP server on /dev/vmnet1 is not running
does this has anything to do with the problem?
    Thank you.

I had the same problem with VMware.  I also tried to connect with the VMware  remote console, but got a similar error.  In both cases it seems that it can not connect to the server for some very strange reasons.
I gave it another try with VMware player.  The latest available version 3.1.0 and the previous version 3.0.1.  Both versions did not start.  The version 3.1.0 did not install a init script and 3.0.1 failed to start.  In the end I gave up searching for errors.
Now I'm using VirtualBox and I am quite impressed of it's speed and stability.  As long as you need a desktop virtualisation virtualbox will be probably all you need.  I found it easier than vmware server.  Sadly I was unable to try vmware player.  So I can not compare the speed, but it is definetly faster than vmware servers remote console.  But on the other hand the remote console of vmware server was developed for other purposes.  It's not intended to be used as a desktop solution like vmware player.
If you need a full vmware server replacement then maybe xen would be a good try.  Did not use it though, yet.

You can check on the console and ensure the console says that Hardware Virtualization is enabled. If not, check in your BIOS that the processor hardware virtualization is enabled. If you don't have an option, your PC may not have the Intel VT-x or AMD-v extensions required to support hardware virtualization.
You can check to see if your processor supports this extension by using:
    Intel processor:
    # cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep vmxAMD processor:
    # cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep svmIf you see a result, it means the processor has that support. You still need to ensure that it is enabled in the BIOS.

  • Is there any server from vmware which supports OSGI and works similar to all functionalities of vFabric tc server?

    Hi,
We have currently  built web applications which are in complience with OSGI and runs on  FUSE ESB. Recently we have gone through vFabric tc server which is based  on open source Apache tomcat. Is there any other server from vmware which supports OSGI and works similar to all functionalities of vFabric tc server?
I  am not sure whether this is the right place to post this question.   Please let me know if i have to post this question anywhere else?
    Thanks,

    Hi Prabhat Y,
Per my understanding that you are doing the migration from SSRS 2005 to SSRS 2008 and now you are re-creating the 3500 subscriptions in the SSRS 2008, so you want to the new created subscription in SSRS 2008 will be pause and not execute at this time, right?
Generally, we have several method to pause the subscription processing, please reference to details information below:
When you created an subscription, an new Sql Server Agent job will be created too, so you can you can just uncheck the 'enabled' checkbox in the job properties as below to disable the execution of the job,you can also  stop the SQL Server Agent Services
manually, all your subscriptions will stop running:
    More information, Please reference to:
How to temporarily stop SSRS subscriptions
You can also disable a Shared Data Source, pause a Shared Schedule to pause the subscription processing.
    Pause Report and Subscription Processing
If you still have any problem, please feel free to ask.

  • Standard Upgrade Path from VMWare Server?

I've been using VMWare Server for years to test my software. Specifically I have 2 "beige box" PCs running CentOS running VMWare Server running various versions of Windows Server as domain controllers and file servers as well as numerous workstations. I have a complete mini multi-domain Windows network. When I run the tests for my software it really pushes the 2-3 vms involved with a lot of network communication and some disk activity.
With care and some brute force this has worked well. At least I don't need a stack of PCs. And it's free so it's hard to complain. But unfortunately it's not terribly reliable. The web interface stops working - sometimes only after a day. Clocks drift causing authentication issues. Generally bad things happen if I try to run more than 2 images on the same server. I've gotten to be pretty good at combating these problems but I'm hoping to find something a little more reliable.
So now I'm willing to actually pay for something (gah!) and I would like to upgrade. But VMWare has so many products I just have no idea what I should be looking for.
What is the standard upgrade path from VMWare Server?
    Mike

Ok. Two people say use ESXi so I guess I'll just try to burn an ESXi DVD and see what it's like. But ...
Is performance really good enough to compile large projects and do backups over and so on?
VMware Server has worked well enough for me over the years but performance was not like real hardware. But the real problem was reliability. If I ran more than 2 VMs at a time, eventually they would just get their tentacles in a tangle and I would have to kill them and delete lock files and bah! I'm going to assume by your endorsement that ESXi doesn't have any of these problems.
Also, the machine I'm using is a lowly DELL i660 i3-3240 with 8GB of memory. I paid $429 USD for it at a local consumer electronics store! This is no server. Will it even work?

  • VMWare-server in 64 bit

    Sorry I don't speak German
I set up Arch to play with it and I've been impressed, it's a pretty nice distro. I set up everything that I had working in Debian Sid (even though for Picasa I had to set up a 32 bit chroot environment) however I can't install VMware-server, in comparison it's pretty trivial to set it up in Sid...
Anyway, I've tried to set it up in 32 bit chroot and that didn't work, the install seems successful but it doesn't start. I assume it's not possible to run it in chroot, I'm not sure what are chroot limitation, maybe one cannot install kernel modules?
In 64 bit I had a problem to get all the 32-bit libraries, can anyone who has it install assure me it's not a lost case so I will dedicate more time with it? Do you have some advice?
    Thanks!
PS. Oh and what's the deal with 32 bit libraries overwriting 64 bit ones... I had bunch a problems with that, apt-get would have never allowed that...

I've made a mistake, this PKGBUILD is not prepared for Arch64. Maintainer seems not to be using Arch64. Probably he cannot test this package on x86_64 architecture and PKGBUILD needs some more changes to run under x86 arch. It is still possible, but you would have to get some 32bit libraries.
I have found similar topic in ArchWiki: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ins … _on_Arch64
I was using vmware-workstation package from AUR, you may be interested in it. You would have to install lib32-libxtst package from pacman before using it (maybe installing this package makes vmware-server to run under x86_64 architecture...).

  • Tarball for vmware-server-modules' PKGBUILD missing [SOLVED]

Edit: I realized that my subject line was mis-leading
    Hello,
I've been an arch user for several months now. Amazingly, I've been able to work my way through all the problems I've had thus far (due, in large part, to the arch community and wikis). This is my first time actually posting for help.
I've been trying to install VMware-Server on my latest install of arch, when I run a 'makepkg' on the vmware-server-modules package I get:
==> ERROR: VMware-server-2.0.2-203138.x86_64.tar.gz was not found in the build directory
    and is not a URL.
A link to the missing tarball can be found on the vmware-server-2.0.2 AUR page (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=6182), however, when I click on the link, it 404's. I've done multiple Google, vmware.com, and archlinux.org/forum searches and have found nothing. I'm at a complete loss for what to do at this point. I really can't find anything of use on the subject, am I the only person who's had/having this problem? Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Turns out I'm just retarded. That's the actual vmware-server package from the VMware download site, which I actually downloaded and unpacked in search of the file itself For those who looked at this post, could no one have just gone, "Hey dumbass, it's the actual file from the VMware site."?

  • VMware-server: Any way to get this to work? Kernel issues! SOLVED

    Hi all,
I am trying to get VMware server installed, but am having a lot of difficulty.
According to multiple sources of information, I am told I need to install vmware-server-modules first.
When I try to install, yaourt gives the following error: error: target not found: kernel26>=2.6.32.
When I try to install vmware-server, yaourt gives the error error: target not found: kernel26>=2.6.29.
    FYI:
    $ uname -r
    3.2.5-1-ARCH
The Wiki deals with VMware Player and Workstation, but not Server. There is a forum/aur information relating to installing Server which is quite old (mostly 2010, some 2011), however given I am running an up-to-date kernel I seem to be hitting a dead end. Is there anyone who knows how to get this working?
    I have seen:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=101982
    https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=6182
I have tried VirtualBox in the past but have had issues getting the networking properly configured, so VMware remains my preference. If there are other decent virtualisation options I am willing to listen.
Your assistance would be much appreciated!

Thank you for your posts. My own research and your comments has convinced me that VMware Server is not the right way forward nowadays.
    EXSi:
I have an unused  box (Dell GX620 usff) which seems like it would be suitable to run EXSi and 2-3 VMs, but no more due to RAM limits of 4GB on the mobo. I THINK its 64-bit, but not 100% sure - knowing this is an EXSi requirement for recent versions is somewhat annoying. Also, from what I understand, there is no native Linux control application (vSphere is Windows only, right?), which makes VMware feel entirely like the wrong choice for me.
    Citrix XenServer:
This looks promising - does anyone use this?
    VirtualBox:
I hear your comments ... maybe its time to do some reading on this. Seems like I'll only get it to work if I take the time to do it right. As usual, so no suprises there Given that it will be easier to experiment on my usual system than have to spend time on a new box, I think I'll investigate this first.
Please feel free to leave further comments on this subject - I'm still interested in your experiences. It will however, be marked as SOLVED, as VMware-server is out.
