Yes,  we resolved the issue. There was any bug in the VSS IOS but when we change the status Master-backup the vip dind't learnt the new mac.
We configured the mac on the two interfaces manually.

    Hi,
I am having a major headache with RME collecting the vlan.dat from a VSS and 4510, the device and credentials work fine, however when archiving the config i get partial success due to vlan failing. You can see in the IC_Services log that it attempts to TFTP the .dat file off which it fails with, i believe vlan fetch is only supported by SSH or telnet
when you do a CDA test both devices pass on everything..

managed to log on and please see below, tftp on one device works fine but from the 4510 or vss still fails

  • What are the differences between Easy VSS and Traditional VSS on Catalyst 4500E with Sup 8E ?

I would like to know which feature is different between Easy VSS and Traditional VSS.
I know "Easy VSS is a new way of implementing VSS by using a single command" but I cannot find more information about it.
    Please help.
    Thank you.
    Nash

Easy VSS is a simplified and automated way of configuring VSS for first time. Once a VSS is configured then it same as traditional VSS in functionality.
There is no concept of layer 2 or layer 3 VSL link. VSL is the internal portchannel link and you cannot configure as layer 2 or layer 3 portchannel.
Following is the link of Easy VSS steps.

  • Basic questation about VSS and windows backup

hi all, basic questation about backup and VSS
    Environment:
windows 2008r2,NAS backup disk connected with iSCSI
If i create in the windows backup server job , where i backup disk D , target is NAS disk and start it . Windows backup is requester and is created shadow copy . This shadow copy is created in the disk D or in the NAS disk ? If in the disk D is created for
everyone application snapshot ? After created snapshot the windows backup copy data from snapshot to windowsimagebackup ? And If windows backup create different snapshot how detect which files is changed ?
    thank you

    Hi,
Windows Server Backup stores backup versions in volume shadow copies. After the data write is complete, Windows Server Backup creates a shadow copy of the volume where the backup is stored using Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS). This shadow copy retains the
state of the storage volume as a “backup version” or “point-in-time” of the backup and must restore using this backup version.
You could refer to the article below to know the steps of a back up operation performs:
Backup Version and Space Management in Windows Server Backup
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/filecab/archive/2009/06/22/backup-version-and-space-management-in-windows-server-backup.aspx
Windows Server Backup uses Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) and block-level backup technology to back up and recover your operating system, files and folders, and volumes. The Volume Shadow Copy Service is used to differentiate between backup sets, and to track
where the various blocks are being written to within the shadow copy storage.

  • Problems with VSS and RoboHelp on second machine

    Hi all,
We chose to use Visual Source Safe as our source control tool
to use with RoboHelp. To build the VSS database containing the help
project on the server, we successfully used the version of our help
project on my machine. I have had no problems using it for the last
several weeks. Everything works great. Files are retrieved, checked
out, and checked back in with no issues.
The problem is we have been unable to successfully set anyone
else on the team up with the VSS-RoboHelp source control. Since
we're not building the database from scratch, the way we did with
mine, we're trying to "get" the version from VSS on the server and
place it on her machine. I'm guessing this is the way to do it, but
we don't know how. When we try to get the version in source
control, only the top level of .htm topics are retrieved, not
anything that is nested in child folders. Then, when we attempt to
open the help project on her machine, we get all sorts of errors
ranging from "corrupt .cpd" files to "invalid characters" to "the
local version is different from the version in source control"
(DUH!). We tell it to get files from RoboHelp when we try to open
the help project on her C drive, but it doesn't download them
    correctly, and invariably RoboHelp crashes.
Has anyone successfully used VSS with RoboHelp, and if so,
how do you get a new computer set up with an existing RoboHelp
project that is already in VSS? I need exact steps, if possible,
since it's not intuitive (or since we're just clueless).
I really appreciate any help anyone can offer!
    Thanks!
    Lisa

    Hi Kathy,
Thank you for your response. I'm not sure we're on the same
page, but it just may be because I'm so new to this. The problem
isn't with checking in or checking out files -- It sounds like you
might be at step 5 and we're still at step 1. The problem is with
getting the entire help project down from source control to her
machine the very first time. For example... Imagine a new RoboHelp
author who has just started with the company and has just gotten
RoboHelp and VSS installed on her machine. We now need to get the
project down from VSS to her machine. We can't check out or get
anything yet because the project hasn't even come down to her
machine yet. RoboHelp on her machine doesn't even know about this
help project out there. We open RoboHelp, and there's nothing on
her C drive to browse to because the project isn't even there yet.
I believe our infrastructure guy (who has been trying to get her
set up with this, but is as much in the dark as I am) was trying to
somehow "get" the files from VSS to her C drive from within VSS,
but obviously that didn't work because it only grabbed the
top-level files. I don't know if any of this makes sense. I thought
there'd be a way, in RoboHelp, to tell it that we have something
out in source control, and "please go get it." It doesn't seem to
    work that way.
If you and I *are* on the same page and I just don't
understand, I apologize, in which case do you mean she's supposed
to check out files or get files from within VSS? Apparently that's
what the infrastructure guy did, and it didn't work. She needs to
be able to work on these help files just like I do, so she needs to
be able to get, check out, and check in. Or do you mean we need to
check out or get files from within RoboHelp?
    Color me confused... :P
    Thanks,
    Lisa

  • SBS 2003 server admin rights dont work access denied on VSS and Network settings

Hi I have just taken over support for a company and have inherited a SBS 2003 Server.
The server has had no backup for over a year (when the last admin left).
VSS does not work, so the back does not work, unable to install any other backup as no admin rights.
I want to repair it so I can do a backup to move to a new server.
I did not know the administrator account password (the last admin didn't tell anyone)
So I used a password reset boot cd and then restarted Windows 2003 in Directory Service Restore Mode.
Copied SRVANY and INSTSRV to a temporary folder, mine is called D:\temp. Copied cmd.exe to this folder too. Next ran at a command prompt instsrv PassRecovery "d:\temp\srvany.exe"
    next
    Started Regedit, and navigated to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\PassRecovery
Created a new subkey called Parameters and added two new values:
    name: Application
    type: REG_SZ (string)
    value: d:\temp\cmd.exe
    name: AppParameters
    type: REG_SZ (string)
    value: /k net user administrator 123456 /domain
"123456 is substituted for the password I used" Im not daft enough to publish it lol
    Next
opened the Services applet (Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Services) and opened the PassRecovery property tab. Checked the starting mode is set to Automatic.
to the Log On tab and enable the option Allow service to interact with the desktop.
Restart Windows normally, SRVANY run the NET USER command and reset the domain admin password.
OK so now I am logged in as administrator but guess what I still don't have admin rights???
I can add new user with admin rights and log in as them but they still don't have admin rights Im totally lost??????????? Help please

I'm thinking the previous tech may have renamed the built-in domain Administrator and then created a new account called 'administrator' with lesser rights?  He then used another domain admin account to manage the server.
If so, and given the fact that you don't know any domain admin account usernames or passwords, I think you may be in for a move to a new server without a proper NT backup of the SBS 2003.
However, If you can at least log into the SBS 2003, I wonder if you could download and run DIsk2VHD and create VHDs (not VHDX) of the current SBS 2003 drives, saving them to an external USB drive connected to the server.
You could then 'attach' the VHDs to a Win7 Pro computer and gain access to the files/folders, although not the Active Directory stuff.  Moving Exchange and Sharepoint would impose additional pain.  For Exchange, you could log
onto workstations as each user and export their Exchange mailboxes as .PSTs.  I believe you could do the same with any Public Folders.

Of course, the owner could also have his attorney contact the previous tech and threaten legal action unless he coughs up the correct domain admin username and password.  That username and password belong to the owner, not the
    tech.

  • VSS and file copy

Running 11g on Windows 2008. According to documentation "8 Performing Database Backup and Recovery with VSS", I need to use the Oracle VSS writer to perform backup, which requires the database in archivelog mode if hot backup is needed.
Now, instead of using VSS writer, if I simply take snapshot of all drives using regular VSS, I can theoretically backup all the files and they would be in crash consistent state. Why is this not a viable solution?
    Thanks for some insight.

If you run normal backup on the exchange database, it will followup below mentioned steps.
    1.  It will freeze the check point file .chk.
    2.  it will take copy of the database and uncommitted log files.
    3.  It will purge committed log files.
If the log files didn't purge properly after completion of the backup, it could be issue with sequence of the log files.
It we need fix the sequence of the log files, we need to dismount the database, move the log files to different location and mount the database.
Once you have mounted the database, we can see a new sequence of log files.
E02.log or EXX.log is always last log file of the database.

  • VSS and two versions of LabVIEW open is BAD

    Wow,
So I had LabVIEW 2009 up for scratchpad code (so it would not try to add into my project in 2010)  A trick I play to keep my scratch code out of my development.
I just got a second monitor and am still getting used to having "stuff over there">>>> and forgot to Close LabVIEW 2009 per my normal operation when I finish in my scratchpad.
Hit the old "Add to SCC" on some new vi's in the main project.   They did add.... and LabVIEW 2010f4PDS went totally unresponsive in ways I've never seen.  Yes I have SCC configured on both LabVIEW versions and auto-connect to VSS during launch.
Luckilly I save often- lost ZERO work but......Should I be able to connect to VSS for multiple LabVIEW versions simultaineously?  or would that be a totally brain-dead way to cause hair loss?
    Jeff

And no matter what you find out keep in mind that VSS is no longer under development by Microsoft and support will soon end.
See this link. Then switch over to SVN!

    Hi,
Is possible configure SVI in my catalyst 4500-X. to separate traffic across VLANs. and the routing will be in the 4500X too. ???
Yes, there is no different between a VSS pair and non-VSS when it comes to SVI and inter-vlan routing.  It works the same way as if the 4500-X ware separate.

  • Issue with VSS and IIS

    Hello,
At work i was handed a task for investigation and truly speaking, i dont know where to start with.
Here is the description of the issue. You help is greatly appreciated.
we have encountered three incidents in one month of the same type.
Following Filesystem backup, after the Configuration backup (using DataProtector) of IIS settings, the VSS is not correctly released,
thus impacting the following backups, resulting in dismounted databases on Exchange.
Each time we had to reboot both the passive and active node in order to get back to nominal situation.

    this will happen.

  • 6500-VSS and NEXUS 56XX vPC interoperability

Hello, is it possible to establish a PORT CHANNEL between a couple of Cisco 6500 running VSS mode and a couple of NEXUS 5000 running vPC? . Design should be " Back-to-Back" :  VSS-- Port-Channel--vPC.
I want also to support L2 and L3 flows between the two couples.
I read many forums but i am not sure it runs.
Is such design, if it runs; supported by Cisco?
Thanks a lot for your help.

    Hi Tlequertier,
    We have VSS 6509Es with Sup 2Ts & 6908 modules. These have a 40gb/sec (4 x 10gb/sec) uplink to our NEXUS 5548UP vPC switches.

  • 2 6509-e going from HSRP to VSS and ESXi v5.1

    Hello,
I am in the process to move to VSS in two Cisco 6509-e with SUP-2T and maybe there is out there some guidelines of what needs to be configure in the ESXi host. The VSS doc state that every hosts, servers, or network device should join the VSS using a MEC.
Should I do that for the ESXi host as well. Anyone knows how to do that in the ESXi hosts?
Rigth now the two 6509-e are running HSRP, and there is no trunk or port-channel configure for all 6 uplinks (3 in each 6509) coming from ESXi hosts.
Let me know if more info is needed.

  • VSS and WISM

    Hi team,
we are experiencing issue with WISM module in our VSS scenario. Here is the info regarding this situation:
We have two 6500 switches in VSS, one WISM module in primary switch. WISM controller 1 has around 60 APs assigned. Controller 2 has 0 APs, it is used only as a backup. Both controllers are int Oper-UP status. The thing is that since we have implemented VSS, our SNMP monitoring tool shows that controller 2 is down. However, everything looks ok in "show" outputs on the box. There is no message in VSS logs saying that controller 2 changed its status to down.WISM SW version is 7.0.98.0.
Is there a reason why this second controller shuts itself as it has no APs assigned? Or what else could cause this issue, please?
    Many thanks!

  • 4500X with VSS and Dual-Active Fast-Hello

    Hello,
ich have two pairs of 4500X-32, with other word two vss-systems in a test environment. IOS running version is 03.05.02.E.152-1.E2, dual-active detection with a fast-hello link is running. When i pull the VSL connectors to simulate a failure the active switch go into recovery-mode. After the vsl is restored the switch in recovery-mode start a reboot as desired. The configuration is saved and if i repeat the procedure, all is working fine. But when i start the systems the next day and begin to test the dual-active detection again, the vsl port stucks in " waiting to be aggregated" after restoring it. No reboot happens, the only solution is to reboot the switch manually. After that this misbehavior is repeating. Only setting the dual-active detection interfaces to its default, and reconfiguring them for fast-hello dual active detection again brings the feature back to normal operation:
    interface TenGigabitEthernet1/1/12
     switchport mode access
     switchport nonegotiate
     dual-active fast-hello
Both vss systems shows the same behavior from time to time, i have no explanation, can somebody help?
    Regards, Stephan
