VXI Register-based versus Message-based Device Communications

DAQ application using LabView 8.6 communicating with VXI chassis with multiple cards (both register and message based devices).  Register-based devices randomly stop communicating (after many hours at 200 scans/sec) while message-based devices continue to communicate.  Currently searching for the cause and a resolution to the problem.

Thanks so much for your response.
Our application (after initial setup and configuration of data communication cards in  the 2 VXI chassis) enters an overall loop which contains many separate individual loops which carry out the data communication with the various individual cards.  Some of these individual loops contain counters which increment each time through the loop.  This overall loop continues until the operator interrupts it.  We have been running the executable of the code so when we encounter the problem it is difficult to get much in the way of details of what's exactly happening.  We are now planning on running the source code so if the problem occurs we could possibly get more information about what is happening.
1.  By stop communicating I mean that the some of the counters that I mention above go to zero which indicates that particular loop is somehow "hung-up" and not incrementing the counter. 
2.  When we encounter the problem we have to exit the program, reboot the computer and start the program again.  We have to reboot the computer because after the problem occurs we try to run Resman and we get the error "Unable to initialize ni-vxi driver".  I researched this error and found information in the Resman Troubleshooting Guide which mentioned the possibility of a conflict between the NI-VXI device driver and some other memory resident program or device driver.  The guide recommended adding lines to the config.sys and system.ini files to exclude the VXI device driver region of memory (0xD000 - 0xEFFF) from other device drivers (MS-OS).  We did this but we still had the problem.
3.  We have not tried changing the scan rate (currently 200 scans/second) for the cards but the problem occurs at very random times (anywhere from a few hours to 24+ hours).

  • Register-based programming on VXI devices s.a. HP E1472A

    The problem I had is bit 0 of the status register is stuck at 1 (reset), and according the user's manual, this bit has to be set to 0 to be able to operate the switches. I wrote to this register to set this bit 0 to 0, but when I read it back, it's still 1. I can set/reset other bits of this register but not bit 0. I don't know why. Your help would be profoundly appreciated.

    Thank you for your answer. I am new to Register-based programming so I relied on the user's manual. The user manual says the status register is a read/write resgister; it is at offset 4; to reset the RF Mutiplexer (HP E1472A), write a "1" to bit 0 of the Status/Control Register, but it is necessary to write a "0" to bit 0 after the reset has been performed before any other commands can be programmed and executed.
    So I should be able to change bit 0, right?
    This device works on VAX system. We are trying to rehost the test program to a PC with a VXI-MXI-2.

  • 2 internal PCI-e based devices on "2014" MBPs??

    Is it possible to have 2 internal pci-e based devices on "2014" MBPs?
    And why not?
    One from which to "Boot."
    The other from which to store the active user folder, or to designate as a file destination from software.
    (No optical drive leaves no "professional" options, especially when Time Machine is not possible on location.)
    (Yes, I do know what Thuderbolt is, as well as that protocol's available devices, including bus-powered Thunderbolt devices... 
    Notwithstanding, because Thurderbolt is OUTSIDE of the MBP's body underscores the original point of my question:
    Is it possible to have 2 internal pci-e based devices on "2014" MBPs?

    (Meanwhile, Apple is coming up with comments like what the current iOS 7 displays when modular devices are attached that are not manufactured by Apple : "The cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPhone."  Does this exemplify unfortunate harbingers of something I hate to admit about Apple?  What ever happened to "Think Different?"
    (Does this mean having a "logistics" guy at the helm, Apple will no longer maintain its edge?)
    (Thankfully I am comfortable in Linux, Windows, and OSX for a possible coming switch after 27 years of devotion to Apple products.)

    Cost. Cost of TB2 drive case or even PCIe controller and box depending.

  • Aaa New format configuation on IOS and Nexus-OS based devices ?

    Dear all,
    I have been working on an assignment to get our TACACs servers  standardized and to change the old format  aaa configs to the new  standard before the old format gets deprecated.
    I have many multiple IOS based model devices such as 2350, 2821,  3650,   Firewalls, Nexus based 3048s 3064s  and 7010s
    However,   I have tried the new format on both the IOS based 2350s and also on  the Nexus based 3048s which has error on both cases
    our plan is to move to the new style of aaa configuration and at  least to have one standard format configuration for IOS based devices  and one other standard format for Nexus based devices.
    •Our tacacs appliances are crashing on AD authentication on a fairly  regular basis. And I was wondering as to where to get resource on  Cisco.com to see if we are on the latest version. Can you point me  resource where I can find the latest version so that I will be able to  compare it with what we have
    Also if you have a forum recommendation for me to get help on this and other related staff that will be a huge help.
    probably we might need to upgrade our IOS for example the below new  aaa config format didn’t work?  when I tried it on 2350 based on  flash:/c2350-lanlite-mz.122-46.EY/c2350-lanlite-mz.122-46 version any  suggestion here?

    Yes, the focus with ML is certainly on trying to get people who have iOS devices to switch to using Apple computers.
    For long-time devotees of OS X like us, there's not much in it. Snow Leopard was still a far more versatile and more widely compatible OS than either 10.7 or 10.8. If you're on 10.6.8. I would think twice about upgrading.
    However, I think if you're on 10.7 already, it's worth upgrading to 10.8, simply because ML seems to be more stable and more refined. They have fixed some of the annoying things in Lion (like you can now put Devices back to the top of the Finder sidebar, Resume is turned off by default, 'Save As' has been resurrected, Launchpad actually has a filter bar etc etc.). Some of the apps are better too - some nice new features in Preview for editing and Safari has an all-in-one address/search bar).

    Hello, As has already been mentioned this will require the SCCM client to be installed on the workstations to pick up the IP address and may require a Hardware Inventory cycle to have been ran (not 100% certain of the HW Inv requirement, give it a try without
    and see!).
    Create the collection as you would normally.
    right click the collection and select properties. Click into the membership rules tab
    select add rule > query rule
    Type a name "IP Subnets" and then click "Edit query statement"
    Click "Show Query language at the bottom and enter the below query making changes to the IP address.
        select *  from  SMS_R_System where SMS_R_System.IPSubnets like "172.16.5%"
    Update the collection membership. Job done.
    I am not sure how whether this information will remain bang up to date e.g. if a machine moves subnets it may not instantaneously update the data in the database regarding IP subnets.

    What is it from a business perspective that you are trying to accomplish?
    What are you going to do with this data once you get it into the format you're envisioning?
    Are you anticipating creating a collection of REC_SET records? Is there a reason that you're not using an associative array keyed on the c2 value (assuming collections are even appropriate to the problem you're trying to solve)?

    Currently i am able to enter only one IP Subnet in value txt box..

    You've got to use is like because the field you're checking on contains an array. In your new scenario use
    192.168.1% to cover both subnets, but do keep in mind that it will also include all other subnets that start like that. In case you only want those two subnets simply create two separate membership rules.

  • OU based Device Collection Membership not updated frequently

    I have create  one OU based device Collection and  checked Used incremental updates for this collection  under Membership rules but whenever any Computer object moved form this OU to another OU than such Device is not removed
    from same OU based Device Collection... the Collection membership change is not happening properly even after i did update membership of that OU based device collection..
    My requirement is whenever any Computer object added or removed in/from any OU in AD than  the membership of corresponding OU based device collection should up updated within 5-10 minutes  how i can do this .
    To achieve this I done below configuration but its membership of the collection not updated... please guide..

    To add to Jorgen, note, there is going to be more to it than just AD discovery.
    What exactly does your query look like?
    Exactly how often is both your Hardware inventory and Heartbeat discovery set to? Do you have SW inventory enabled?
    Just to get thing out there IMO the requirement updated within 5-10 minutes is nuts.

    If you use a catching a MAIL - PI ALERT and based on that alert if u creating an IDOC then it is good if u really supress the alert immediately once the ALERT comes but if u really check and supress the ALERT fine Otherwise a CONTINOUS IDOCs will get created at SAP system.
    Also there might be some natural generic reasons for communication channel fails
    a)  somtimes if the target FTP is down
    b)  if there is some issue with FILE ENOUGH
    c)  If File adpater is placing same file already exists or with already Opened by some target application
    d)  Dynamica file naming issue. (technical issue)
    WHy cant u do scenario in the below steps without keeping BPM, CATCHING ALERTS which doesnt give exact QUARANTEE
    Do one thing make a technical design in such a way into 1 flow or 2 flows in worst case
    In INTERFACE MAPPING-->
    a) Insert your current Normal Graphical mapping
    b) Javamapping:- This code will take the first mapping output as Input through Stream Transformation and create a same FILE through JAVA FTP Comments at specified Cleint Location. I recommend in order to avoid direct interraction of writing a file at client FTP better always write at your Local PI NFS Application outbound directory which doesnt require host name and user and pwd. Even if it requires you can do a RFC lookup and maintain a host, Port, User ID, pwd, Directory, FIle naming pattern in that table or else simply DO VALUE MAPPIING and pass it through XML INPUT from FIrst mapping as additional fields
    c) WITH IN THE SAME JAVAMAPPING: -
       If it successfully writes a file - wRite a TRACE log ("FILE NAME+ Sucecssfully written+ File Bytes")
       Then create an simple small XML OUTPUT and PASS that JAVA MAPPING OUTPUT To 3rd Grahical Mapping as Input it might be less than 5KB.
    Note: - Remember that this output XML should be ina Multmapping SPLIT MERGET FORMAT with 1 FIELD or required INFO
    as KEY FIELD INFO using DOM FACTORY
    d) GRAPHICAL MAPPING: -
      SOURCE IS JAVAMAPPING OUTPUT and TARGET HAS 2 messages
                           Message 1) SAME INPUT SMALL XML OUTPUT COMING FROM JAVA MAPPING OUTPUT
                           Message 2) IDOC TY{E STRUCTURE
    Keep a Condition based on KEY VALUE Coming from source field execute either 1 Message1 or Message 2
    In this way you can complete in a single Flow. 
    Later you can deifnee a simple flow to PICK and DROP from SOURCE file  Writing through javamapping to client location Or else
    WRITE A small OS SCRIPT and CALL in Receiver FILE COMMUNICATION at OS Command so that while writing a LOG file it will move the file from Source FTP to CLient FTP location.

  • MegaSky 580 - Presto! Error message "The device is not ready"

    Error message "The device is not ready. Please check whether your device is connected correctly."
    I can see the device in the drop down menu of the settings window, when I select It, I get again the same error message.
    If I plug off the usb stick, presto! Do not see the device anymore
    I did have this problem since the beginning, I did try a lot ,
    I install also the updates for the “digital TV usb min receiver” and the updates for the presto software (from the presto and msi homepage).
    But nothing was helping.
    After a couple of weeks I needed to reinstall the laptop from scratch.
    And the first thing that I did was trying the presto software again, and it was working everything fine.
    After a couple of weeks I install some other stuff and all of the Microsoft patches,
    And I did get the same problem back.
    So it seems that something is disturbing the communication between the USB stick and the presto software, but what!
    The usb stick is working finr, I did try it with a powercinema trial version, and it is working, but why the OEM software of the USB stick not working, I hate it!
    It would also helpful, to get a kind of log functionalities, due to the fact,
    that no logs are available! Maybe somebody knows kind of switch to increase the verbosity and get an error log?
    I have seen the same problem in this and other forums, so I’m not the only one.
    But no solution found, maybe someone has found it…..

    I just bought an Apple Lighting to USB Camera Adapter. When I got home to and connected it to my Canon Rebel EOS Digital Camera. I received the error message "This device is not supported" I was wondering if there is any software or drivers I need to download?

    I use Canon Cameras and have no problems downloading photos from the camera to the Lightning to USB Camera Adapter. My questions and suggestions might be basic but just to make sure:
    1. This is an iPad forum area. Are you using the lightning to USB camera adapter with an iPad? Your info in your original post says iPod. I'm not sure that the adapter works with an iPod.
    2. After you connect the adapter to your iPad and then use a USB cable to connect the adapter to the camera did you turn on the camera?
    3. If you did turn on the camera and still did not get the import of photos to start try a reset your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. This will not cause any data loss.
