Waiting on a user's response (from the gui)

This should be a really simple problem, but I can't work it out.
I have two classes, my Engine and my Gui. The Engine tells the Gui what to display, the gui displays it and has methods to fire events when a user presses a button. I want to do something like the following
public class Engine {
Gui gui;
String[] pictures;
// ... a bunch of stuff
public void showPictures {
for (int i=0; i<pictures.length; i++)
gui.showPicture(pictures);
// wait on the user's response
Here's the question: preferably without using threading (though I could if I had to), how can I wait on a user's response from within a loop?
I considered having a boolean flag "hasResponded" in the gui, and then having a do-while loop just spinning until it saw that gui.hasResponded was equal to true, but it seems that this would add a lot of unnecessary processing load.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

I have the same question "So question is still just the simple one above: can I (easily) wait on some event, like the gui recording an action or anything else, from within a loop?"...If you have a question to ask, do so in a new thread. Don't resurrect a long-dead thread. Sure you can refer to it and even link to it, but let it rest in peace.
Any new ideas? Why would you expect the answer to change? You don't do this via a loop as GUIs don't work like this. Have you gone through the Swing tutorials? If not, please go through them as they'll show you how to do this correctly.
I wrote a WHILE loop, the condition of the loop being the values (getActionCommand) of some buttons being pressed. How can I wait for another button being pressed so I can get out of the loop? You don't. If you need to time a response, then use a Swing Timer. But most importantly, read the Swing tutorials.

• RDS 2012 R2: A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the (name-of-service) service

Hi guys,
On a random base (daily, weekly) we're experiencing major log-in problems on our Windows Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Services farm. The VM's are hosted on Hyper-V 2008 hosts and we're not using Citrix techniques etc.
Users are reporting that they cannot log-in, the log-in sessions hangs with a blank screen when loading their user profile (e.g. Please Wait For The User Profile Service).
In the System event log of the server on which the user is logging on the following errors are shown:
Source: Service Control Manager
Date: 23-12-2014 7:28:01
Event ID: 7011
Task Category: None
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Description:
A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UmRdpService service.
…and after 30 (or sometimes 60) seconds, the same error only another service (in random order):
A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UmRdpService service.
…and after exactly 30 seconds, the same error only another service:
A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UxmSms service.
etcetera, with the following errors:
A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the Netman service.
A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the AudioEndPointBuilder service.
A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the WPDBusEnum service.
A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the NlaSvc service.
The Portable Device Enumerator Service service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the TrkWks service.
A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UmRdpService service.
These errors are logged continuously.
An administrator cannot solve this since he isn't able to login in as well (console or remotely), only a hard reset of the VM is possible to use the affected server again.
I took different steps to solve this problem without any success, like:
- Installing the latest Windows updates
- Removed unnecessary printer drivers, print monitors and print processors (no local printers/drivers are installed, only Remote Desktop Easy Printer driver is used)
- Searched different forum posts, but found only hotfixes for Windows Server 2008 R2.
Can someone please help me with this annoying problem?
Many thanks!!
EDIT:
Of course is increasing the time-out not really an option here... http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/13765.event-id-7011-service-timeout.aspx

Hi Jeroentjuhh,
1)Do you see this problem on all VM's or only on Windows 2012 R2 server?
2)Are these VMs' in hyper-v cluster?
3)Do you see event id 56 or 50? Please see the below link if it helps you to resolve these events.

• CCP related: A timeout occured waiting for a response from the ECU

Hello All,
I had just started using ECU Calibration tool kit software. Iam using USB 8473 for my application. When I tried to run the VI after loading the *.A2L file, I see an error message saying "A timeout occured waiting for a response from the ECU ". Does anyone know how to communicate with the ECU through CCP.
Iam pretty sure that Iam using the right cable. I also checked the address of the parameters using Get property.vi what iam trying to read, wether they are matching with the address in the *.A2L file or not. They are matching. However I was able to communicate with my ECU when I use the same device to read the data over J1939 data link, based on arbitration ID's, with the Vi's from CAN Frame to Channel Conversion Library.
Can any pls help me out how to communicate with my ECU using CAN Calibration Toolkit software.
-Lucky.

Hello,
I am sending you an attachment of the manual for the ECU Calibration tool kit . Please go through the manual it will clarify your doubt. Moreover , check for can vi's in the example finder in labVIEW. Those will help ....
I am sending you a link which gives you some insight about the installation of CCP command set and the use of the toolkit with the USB CAN hardware.

RDSH08 – Windows 2012 R2 - Session Host
RDSH09 – Windows 2012 R2 - Session Host
RDSH10 – Windows 2012 R2 - Session Host
We have two Session Collections:
Office-R2 (All Server 2012 R2 RDSHs)
"Office (RDSH02, Closed for users)"
User Profile Disk are enabled to a SOFS Share (Server 2012).
Client Settings: Everything except "Plug and play Devices" are enabled
Problem:
Suddenly, one or more of RDSH
servers (in the Office-R2 Collection) get the following error:
A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UmRdpService service.
After this, we get similar error messages
to other services, such as:
AudioEndpointBuilder, NcbService, ScDeviceEnum, WPDBusEnum, Netman
Users logged into the server, looses Redirection
services as local drives and local
printers, and they also have problem signing out of the server. (Hangs on signing out)
New Users that tries to sign in to that server are also having trouble (Hangs on signing in).
After using the logoff tool to sign out every user on that server, I end up With the following:
It
appears that there are no users logged on,
yet there are many Disconnected sessions...
Looking at the SOFS file share I still see that RDSH04 has read/Write to the .VHDX file that hold the User Profile.. And If the user try to log on to another server in that Collection, it get a temporary profile.
If I kill the Conncetion to the VHDX files, Users can then sign in normally to another node it that Collection.
Trying to restart the server With "Shutdown -r -t 0 -f" does not work, It just hangs on Shutdown (waited 3 days), so All I can do is Press and Hold.We
have also seen BSoD on these nodes, but I'm sure if they are related to this error:
WinDBG is saying:
BugCheck 3B, {c0000005, fffff803538fa84e, ffffd0002711cb00, 0}
Probably caused by : dfsc.sys ( dfsc!DfscCacheStore+6f )
I found https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2925981 and
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2525246, but they are not for Windows Server 2012 R2.
Any Idea?
Thanks
Anders

Hi,
Firstly, dfsc.sys indicates the DFS clients. It means that your systems use DFS service to access the file share.
Please let us know if you configured the DFS service on your file server.
Also, what is the format of file path you configured for UPD?
\\FileServer\FileShare
Or
\\Domain.com\DFS NameSpace\File Share
Thanks.

• "No response from the backend application". Oracle DB

Hi everybody,
I have a problem with a connection to a Oracle DB. Here are the steps:
1. I created a system in my portal to call a Oracle DB with the SAP template com.sap.portal.systems.jdbc.jdbc_system
2. I filled the parameters and the conection test is ok.
3. I created an iView based on com.sap.portal.applications.enterprise.iviews.Database_JDBC_iView
4. This iView use the system I created before and is sending a simple query.
The result is the message:
"No response from the backend application"
I have been reading the page
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/29/acd8403e37762ae10000000a155106/frameset.htm
in Help.sap and i supose that my case could be 1.2 because I have mapped an user (case 1.1) and my DB is up and connection is ok (case 1.3), but...what have i to recheck in my configuration to remedy the situation??
Thanks all.
Guillermo.

Hi Ramesh,
Yes I am using the driver class but in the connection URL I wrote jdbc:sap:oracle://183.145.5.10:1527;sid=HEX
And here my question is, have I to put user and password of the administrator of the DB in this parameter? I dind't put because I mapped later in user management.
And the connection tests is successful.
Thanks for the awnser.
Guillermo.

Sounds like what we have been experiencing here, on Unix.
According to Forté, upgrading to 3M should resolve it. Unfortunately, we

I believe this is documented as an "internal" Forté bug report.

Hi All,
One of the router partitions on NT server stops responding once in awhile. We can not get to it through escript or econsole and the only
solution we have is to shutdown the ftexec using task manager and start
the partition again. We don't see any error messages in the log except
this line "LbRouter::AttachToRouter - Ignoring DOM version: -1 obj

to figure out the problem? We are using Forte 3L3. Thanks in advance.

• No response from the server

Hi,
I have a G4 imac and powerbook both running 10.3.9. They are both conected to a network created by my airport express, they both get internet and I can print to the printer attached to the imac from the powerbook.
I have file sharing turned on on both computers and apple talk enabled for airport on both computers but when I click on the powerbooks icon in the network tab in finder it comes back with "Connection failed. No response from the server. Please try again."
I tried again and again and...
Also I can connect to the imac from the powerbook fine.
Anybody got any sugestions.
Thanks

Try following these instructions, which I have copied from another discussion:
The first step is: on each computer, go into System Preferences, then Sharing, and turn on "Personal File Sharing". On that page, you'll see, at the top, the computer's name (which you can change), and at the bottom, the IP number (eg 10.0.1.2), which you may need as an alternative.
Then, on each computer, go to Finder, then click on Network. You may straightaway see the other computer appear - you can click on it, click "Connect", and then either log in as a user (it has to be a user that's been set up on that machine), or a guest.
As a guest, you can access all Public folders on the computer.
As a user, you can access that user's Home folder
As an admin user, you can access the whole hard drive.
So, if you have different user accounts set up on the computers, it's best to use Guest access and then put the files you're sharing in your user's Public folder.
Now, if that computer doesn't immediately appear, go to the Finder, click cmd-K (to open the Connect to Server dialogue), and type in
afp://ip-address-of-other-computer
eg afp://10.0.1.2
You'll then get the same login dialogue as above.

• One socket and two ports, not getting response from the server

Hi everyone,
I am working on device which communicate through Tcp sockets, It has an IP address and one port for listening and another for sending the response.
Problem is that I am able to create a connection to Device ip+port, and i am trying to listen on the same port while the device is sending the response on other port. My problem is that i can't create another socket using this port and therefore not getting the response from the device.
Can you people tell me how to handle such socket communication in java ?
Thanks in advance.

I am working on device which communicate through Tcp sockets, It has an IP address and one port for listening and another for sending the response. Are you sure? That's not usual. It would be usual for it to use the same port for listening, reading, and writing.
Problem is that I am able to create a connection to Device ip+port, and i am trying to listen on the same port while the device is sending the response on other port.I would try just reading from the same socket you are sending on. I suggest you have misunderstood how the device works.

I want to read responses from the slave. When i tried with labview exapmle programs or even using MAX also, while doing some switching action in my slave, i am getting response as Device inactive with timestamp but there is no data format.
And I have Lin Description File. Can you suggest me how to use ldf file.
I am at customer place and It would be great help from you if you can suggest me at the earliest. Thank you

you may use the LDF Starter Kit to use LDF informations in your application

• An FTP Error occured - cannot make connection to host. No response from the server

"An FTP Error occured - cannot make connection to host. No response from the server".
As of today this is all i get when trying to connect to every single ftp account i have. It's not the server cause it's every one and there is several different. Tried passive and non-passive same result. I've connected fine with other FTP clients. So this must be another dreamweaver bug. Anyone know what to do?

Very hard to diagnose these problems, particularly as you can connect using a 3rd party program.

• Can't get any response from the Tuner - is it broken?

I'm happily chugging away through my new David Nahmani tutorials and I've discovered that I can get no response from the Tuner. The controls in the window appear to be working, but no line appears in the meter and flat lines appear in the center for pitch and octave. The channel strip indicates normal sound input and variation. I don't have any trouble recording (so far anyway). Is there anything I'm not aware of that could cause this?

Thanks for the reply, Rob. I'm just trying to tune a wind instrument through the built-in mic on my MacBook Pro, but I discovered the answer not too long after submitting the question. As I said, I'm trying to work through the Nahmani Logic Pro and Logic Express 8 book. I've been trying to be very meticulous about the installation and the setup for the tutorials, but I guess I inadvertently made settings changes that interfered with the Tuner, because choosing Logic Express > Preferences > Initialize All Except Key Commands allowed the Tuner to work the way I expected. I assumed the problem must have been bus related after I saw the Tuner respond to internal playback after modifying some bus settings, so I executed that command and all was well (uh, I should probably change that to "most was well", but at least the Tuner is working now). Thanks again.
