Want a tutorial on expanding an images ppi and minimising jaggies

I've been looking online for an up to date method. It's a while since I've had to do this, upsizing a photographic image. It was shot RAW so jpg compression squares is not the issue here. Just getting more pixels out of it for print job. Any links?
I'm not looking for tutorials in how to make a 110% resize action! Nor a link to a paid product that is 110% resize actions for any given enlargement. All I found i last ten minutes online was this kind of out of date rubbish. While I know in same cases, like designing billboard movie posters finished artists go to the extent of painting out film grain with the wacom, I'm not looking to go that far. More judicious use of filters and unsharpened mask.
I read once an Adobe engineer say that standard bi-cubic (introduced in CS2/3?) resize is more effective than step-enlarging with any of the algorithms. I haven't found that to be false so far, any opinions.

If that were true, you'd probably have found my previous references to Smilla.
At the risk of re-flaming the dying embers: That's a false positive. :\ </light-hearted-tone>
Searching forums as you probably [] know is virtually (when not literally) non-deterministic and there often is a high noise-to-signal ratio. My search may have been poor and quick (as in 5 tokens and about 10 minutes) but a search it was. I didn't think to search for Smilla . I actually find the Adobe forums search difficult — even these new improved forums. When I search 'Smilla' for instance, I get 3 hits forum-wide.It has taken me 40 minutes of searching to find out sub-sets of forums must all be (shift-click) selected in filtered searches. So a search of "Adobe Photoshop" results in zero hits on all the search tokens it tried. That's not in the search tips either. For the occasional user these forums have a pretty average interface I think (although big improvement on the previous ones which were woeful).
I used to answer a lot of Q on Apple discussions and always found it weird when others would get aggressive about somebody having not consulted the manual or searched the forum properly, it's like okay, ignore the question, but don't react with anger, respond graciously or not at all, am I right?
Anyhow you've provided some useful open source software to the world so I don't want to give you a hard time about nuances. Thanks again.
Having trouble getting the right balance between flat and dithering/noise with Similla btw, but I'm persevering. It definitely gives different results to Resize BiCubic, probably would need to see printed output to call which way to go is preferable in any given instance as I'm not experienced enough in pre-press to tell. I read the user guide, do you have any other commentary on good Similla technique?

  • How do I expand my images after using a cover flow object?

Let me explain: I used nine images to group them under cover flow (object) and it looks nice on Ibooks Author, but now I want to tap to expand each image as they float and swipe back to revert to initial size.

In short, you'll want to hook into the interaction events fired by the Cover Flow object when manipulated by the user.
Each interaction fires an event. To see the possible events, select the Cover Flow and click the code button and you'll see the events you can intercept in the "Add Event Handler" drop-down menu including:
    Did Tap Front Cell
    Did Select Cell
    Did Focus Cell
    Did Begin Swipe
    Did End Swipe
Showing a zoomed version of the center (focused) cell will vary based on how you want to present the focused content.
If you want to zoom the focused cell full screen, you can have an offscreen Image View object that you'll display when the appropriate event is triggered and set the image property of the Image View to that same image in the focused Cover Flow cell.
You'll then add a interaction for the zoomed Image View that hides the view when tapped to reveal the Cover Flow for further selection.
Bunch of different ways to do this.  Check out the Photo Gallery page in the Space Tours To Mars sample in the iAd Examples folder available for download where you downloaded iAd Producer.

    make class gImage..
    extends Image class. (Inheritance)
but Image class is abstract class..
And I want to use gImage class same as Image class.

    How do i?
    Help me.. plz...
And I want to use Graphics2D at Applet Game, But not use Java JDK Plug-in...
    No Way?

You need to use BufferedImage with 2D or RenderedImage with JAI.
BufferedImage effectivley extends an Image so you can
draw it to screen in paintCOmponent.
I use an Extended JPanel to draw an image in a Panel with this.

  • Default image ppi/dimensions of most megapixel digicams

I realize this must seem an overly simple question. I haven't yet purchased a digicam and was wondering what the image size reads under image menu of PS of a max resolution capture from any digicam users here.
PPI and image dimension in inches.
    Thanks for any input.

    Canon Paper.
I tried other printers but it is much to much work to get anything I would consider neutral.
I have a Epson R 300 for printing direct to CDs and DVD and it does far better job if I just need a small print.
I certainly am not going to invest thousands of dollars in paper and ink and tons of time just to do the work that Canon should have done.
It defeats the purpose of cost efficiency and workflow convenience if you are spending your time and money supporting the inefficiency of a manufacturer.
I don't see why they would give you profiles they know won't work and know you will have to spend all this time and effort to make work just to sell you ink and paper. I think they would have made a lot more money from me if the gave me a quality profile and better controls over the inks on output then they have made this way.
Epson and HP heard the complaints of the customers and did something about it but Canon is unresponsive.
The sam goes for their cameras.
Each time they come out with a camera it is racked with technical problems and you have to spend time sending the camera back. It doesn't make sense if they can fix the problem when you send it back why do the ship the product?
    Way to much work.
I will probably get a 3800 or 3880 if they update it and then of course why aren't these manufacturers making these printers wireless.
I might even look into an HP though I have never got an answer about water resistance.
And another thingAh what's the use!

  • I want an add-on that opens images in whatever program I choose

You know how when you're looking at a folder in Windows Explorer, you right click on an image filetype and there's an "open with" option where you can select what program with which to open/view/edit that image?
Is there an add-on for FireFox that allows me to do the same thing?
For example, I go to http://icanhascheezburger.com I see an image I like and want to save, but I want to open it in IrfanView to edit it before I save it. So in Firefox, I right click on the image and I get the "open with" menu a if I right clicked ob the same file after saving it

One add-on that can do that is Launchy - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/launchy/
Though the description states it lets you open links and mailto's with external applications, you can also configure it so that when you right-click on an image you get the option to open the image in your chosen application. For details on setting up Launchy see http://gemal.dk/mozilla/launchy.html

  • HELP! flash stops working when I want to import a sequence of images to stage

Please! I need help asap! I downloaded Flash CS5 and I am using it as a trial and every time I want to import a sequence of images to stage the program stops working and closes without saving. I need to do this projecto for the day after tomorrow and Flash is just not working right. This project is a stop motion animation.
I will deeply appreciate any help, since I just don't know what else to do!
    Laura.

I cannot individually cause it's a stop motion animation...like 200 pictures (this part, the whole of it is like 1000), it would take me a lot of time.  I tried doing it in parts, but when  I get to frame number 100 more or less the program just shuts down...I really really don't know what else to try.

I want to share a folder of images with a client who is also using bridge. I want the client to be able to edit metadata and rate the image. How can I do this?

Metadata won't be a problem as long as you use Bridge to copy the file from within Bridge to whatever media (flash drive, CD/DVD. email, etc) you plan to use for the sharing.
I'm not sure about the Label part.  Maybe it will travel along too.

  • Restoring bitmap (image) dimensions and PPI

Here's something I haven't found a quick solution to after several years of use.
    The scenario is the following:
    1. You receive a document that has the images embedded and no access to original links.
    2. The images are scaled and proportions have changed. For example, PPI: 85.372 x 71.954 and Image Scale (H, V): 84.337%, 100.065%.
Is there a quick way to change image scale to 100%, 100% or PPI to 72 x 72??
I always have to do this by calculating the percentage the image has to be restored by horizontally and vertically to get the original ratio.
    Cheers.

  • Can someone point me to a tutorial on image masking and alpha channels?

Can someone point me to a tutorial on image masking and alpha channels?
Goal is to make a picture in a picture frame become a moving image.
I am trying now to figure out how to make a hole in a video by subtracting a 16x9 sized rectangle.
    Thanks.

    hi
depending on how complicated your shot is, you may be able to get away with simply placing the image within the frame on top of the background shot. Then resize down to fit. You may then need to tweak its corners using the corner pin tool to get it to sit in the right perspective plane. You may find you need to soften the edges of the top layer image so its not so sharp and hard. For this you probably would need to add a mask and soften its edges. Then you might need to add some noise and/or colour correction to make it sit naturally with the background image. and finally if there are any shadows cast over the picture frame you will need to add them back over the new image. You can use a black shape, with its opacity cranked down with a blur filter on it.
The manual describes all of these process pretty well.
