Warning: Apple's hmac-sha256.c sample code appears to be PPC only

There is a big-endian issue in Apple's hmac-sha256.c code ... it appears not to be portable on Intel machines. So if you're hosting your portal site on an Intel machine (whether it's a Mac or a Dell), you're likely not going to be able to get Apple's shell script sample to work.
Apple's shell script requires that you compile the seconds.c, urlencode.c, and hmac-sha256.c source code files. While seconds.c and urlencode.c produce the same output (given the same input) on both a PPC Mac and an Intel Mac, hmac-sha256.c does not. I have looked at this two different ways (just by running the code and from within gdb) and I'm pretty satisfied that there is an endian issue within the code (the code favors a big-endian machine ... like the PowerPC ... over a little-endian machine ... like a CoreDuo Mac/Dell server).
There is probably a straightforward fix, but I am not a sha encryption expert, so I will have to do my homework over the weekend. The fix would likely involve #ifdefing the code in the usual way. The only diffuculty is going to be in finding the dependency. If you're using the Java/Perl/Python stuff, you should be utterly safe (those languages work at a higher level of abstraction and take endianess into account).

But seems FMS3 can only play video under this path:
C:\xxxx\FMS3\applications\vod\media\
My only success is on this source path rtmp://ip/vod/test in
the component FLVPlayBack.
So is it happen to all free version of FMS3 or I have to type
sth more?

I guess I will mark this solved, for the time being.
I was just hoping that maybe Apple had released some example code in a working program, rather than just the snippets used to explain the process. I haven't had the presence of mind to read and follow the document all the way through and wanted to compare working code if possible.

ADC sample code MapLargeFile.c returns an error

I need some help running sample code from the ADC web site. I'm running 10.5.6 on a Mac Pro with 6 GB of RAM.
The example in question "Shows a technique for mapping files greater than 4GB into memory for faster access."
I compile it like this:
gcc MapLargeFile.c -o MapLargeFile
Then I make a 6GB file like this:
dd if=/dev/zero of=foobar.txt bs=1024 count=6291456
Finally I run it like this:
./MapLargeFile foobar.txt
The program fails with this warning:
./MapLargeFile: failed to mmap file at offset 0x0
I get the same error message if I give it a nonexistent file name. Looking at the code I would think it would say it couldn't open the nonexistent file.
What am I doing wrong?

The short comment explains it:

This is basically just buffered I/O. If you know you are going to need to read 10000 bytes, there is no need to read each byte one at a time. You read all 10000 bytes at once, then access each byte in memory instead of going to disk for it.

I have the similar problem when I tried to compile sample code with C++ parser on WinNT4. I am using Micrsoft Visual Studio V6.0. I added the include file and lib file in the path.

The assets are in the .playground file's file package. Select the .playground file in the Finder, right-click, and choose Show Package Contents to browse the file package. The graphics files are in the Resources folder inside the file package.

[NOT iPhone] sample code request: quartz CGDataProvider / destination code

Lets try this another way, does anyone have a pointer to some good sample code for using CGDataProviders and Destinations to load and view JPEG files? I can't seem to find any in the apple support pages.

Partial Update error / sample code

Customer is trying to do Partial Update by refering the sample shown in PartialUpdatesGuide.pdf, however, baseline update is showing following error. Is there any sample code to do partial update with the actual success in some instance, or any resolution for this ?

Additional informations are:
- after partial update, dgraph_input/updates does not have partial update file (directory is empty). It seems that they does not use Parial Update Pipeline in forge, this file is not created.
- Dgidx log does not show any other error or warning

The message you see is just a warning that indicates the Dgraph node in your AppConfig XML (either DgraphCluster.xml or AuthoringDgraphCluster.xml) is not specified properly. My guess is that yours looks like this:

The error message is complaining about the args section. The updatedir argument gets sourced from the update-dir element and if you try to specify it in args, you see the message below.
I think we'll need more information to solve the primary issue (what does your PartialForge.log say, is there anything in data\partials\forge_output). Dgidx does not run during a partial update so not having a warning or error there is expected.

Web Service API sample code

Howdy All,
I am trying to work through the iTunes U Admin's guide directions on how to upload content using the Web Service API. I have completed everything through step 2, (I believe it is page 48 in the current guide), Request an Upload URL from iTunes U. After I try to POST a file to the URL returned in step 2 the only response I receive back from the server is a 500 error. I am writing my application in C# so using a UNIX curl script to perform the file upload is not possible, and that seems to be the only thing close to sample code that I can find.
Has anybody else written some .NET code that performs the file upload in step 3 that they would be willing to share? Even Java code that I could port over to C# would be a good start. I can also post some of my own code if there is anybody that feels like taking a look at it.

I would be happy to share my own code, but it might not be what you're after (I used Objective-C and Apple's NSMutableHTTPRequest Cocoa class to do my HTTP POST). I am not a C# guy, but I would bet dollars-to-donuts that C# has some kind of class that serves as a wrapper for an HTTP POST request ... you give it the HTML, it POSTs.

Bug in sample code of Exchange Activ Sync cause birthday shift

Dear Apple Development Team,
Continuing the archived discussion 'Exchange Birthday Shifted by 1 day' I just want to inform you that Microsoft identified the reason for shifted birthdays using Exchange Active Sync. According to Microsoft the mentioned problem is not caused by a server-related problem, but due to an error in a Microsoft sample code which was used in Windows Mobile 6.5, Windows Phone 7, Hotmail Outlook Connector and even in iOS. That means that the client side connection was developed incorrectly. Microsoft and Apple copied the incorrect code from time to time using the mentioned Exchange code in their software (iOS, etc).
However, Microsoft already fixed the birthday bug within the latest update of the Outlook Hotmail Connector (please check changelog) as well as in the current update of Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango). For more information please check the following sites:

Due to the fact, that the mentioned problem isn't fixed in iOS until now, I would be glad if Apple could fix it as soon as possible, too. This bug is really annoying.

as far as I know the bug is fixed in Hotmail Outlook Connector now. But in the Windows Phone Mango release the bug is still active in "some" cases (for birthdays in the winter time everything is fine and for birthdays in summer time the bug is still there - or vice versa ).
Does Apple plan to fix that bug somehow? As the bug can be fixed with a new release of Outlook connector and partly fixed in the new Windows Phone release it should be a failure in the code of the mobile devices and not with the Hotmail servers - so Apple developers have to work on that.
Does anybody know when this annoying bug will be fixed?

"Speak Here" sample code is not working

Hi,
I downloaded Speak here iphone sample code from apple site.
Its not working on simulator. I connected headphone and mic to macbook.
Crashing at function initWithURL file name is AudioRecorder.m
Crashing line = OSStatus result = AudioQueueNewInput(.....
I want to use same code in my application.

Its not working on my simulator and ipod 2.1.
Not tried on iphone, I dont have iphone.

IPhone Kalimba sample code

Hi all,
I can't find it from the current Apple iPhone developer page, but there was a
sample code called Kalimba for iPhone SDK (in Beta 4 release, I think). I played
with this sample recently, and the sound does not work anymore when I run the
code in the simulator. I remember it used to work. Was this code deprecated?

Kalimba worked in the earlier versions of the SDK. The routine used to create the sound was eliminated during one of the revisions of the SDK. Kalimba was supposed to be rebuilt using the Interface Builder but never was. Apple never re-released it to work with the later SDKs
