get rid of hal, is not needed since gnome 2.30. it think it fails to start because of export GTK_IM_MODULE="ibus". Do not export any GTK_ since this variables are used by gtk2 and gtk3.
it will be nice to paste the whole log and not only this warning

  • Gtk-WARNING org.gnome.SessionManager not provided by any ,service file

    hello,
    I get this warning when I run gedit :
    Gtk-WARNING **: Calling Inhibit failed: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files
    gedit works fine but I am just afraid that this might cause other bigger problems .
    thanks

    [offtopic]great replies so far[/offopic]
    If you're running a gnome-session and you get that warning, then something might be wrong, but if you're running gedit without gnome it's kinda obvious why there is no session manager.
    It says it's trying to call the Inhibit method. That's probably to buy some time from the session manager at the end of the session in case there are any unsaved documents (and maybe other user data such as preferences). So if you close gedit yourself (or at least save your changes) before logging out/shutting down, you should be fine. (gedit will probably try to save changes when it gets SIGTERM anyway, but if SIGKILL follows very quickly, that can fail.)

  • Failed to acquire org.pulseaudio.Server

    Hi,
    before filling a bug, I'd like to ask here:
    Couple of days ago I've noticed that sound stopped to work completely. I'm using pulseaudio.
    In /var/log/messages.log after startingI see following error:
    Apr 26 23:08:37 myhostname pulseaudio[9698]: main.c: Failed to acquire org.pulseaudio.Server: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied: Connection ":1.46" is not allowed to own the service "org.pulseaudio.Server" due to security policies in the configuration file
    I've tried to find any info about it here or in bugzilla or in google - no results.
    Everything is configured according to our (excellent!) wiki. Daemons are started, config files are OK, user is in necessary groups, channels are not muted, etc.
    In 'paman' I see that pulseaudio server is started, looks like I'm connected, statistics are changing.
    Any ideas?
    thanks,
    J.

    I had exactly the same problem.
    I created file /etc/dbus-1/system.d/pulseaudio.conf with following content:
    <!DOCTYPE busconfig PUBLIC
    "-//freedesktop//DTD D-BUS Bus Configuration 1.0//EN"
    "http://www.freedesktop.org/standards/dbus/1.0/busconfig.dtd">
    <busconfig>
    <policy user="pulse">
    <allow own="org.pulseaudio.Server"/>
    <allow send_destination="org.pulseaudio.Server"/>
    <allow receive_sender="org.pulseaudio.Server"/>
    </policy>
    </busconfig>
    I'm not sure if all of these rules are required, but now sound played trough pulseaudio works.
    Hope this helps.

  • Linux-3.9.2-1: failed to login with Gnome 3.8

    Hi all,
    Today morning i was unable to login into gnome 3.8: gdm worked fine, but after confirming password i saw "Something has gone wrong...".
    After downgrading recent updates i found that the issue is in new linux-3.9.2-1. So linux-3.8.11.1 works fine and this is the only package that affect this bug.
    I dumped output of 'journal' command in both cases and compared them and found a few lines that may affect on the bug:
    linux 3.9.2-1 (not working case):
    May 13 10:49:03 green /etc/gdm/Xsession[500]: **
    May 13 10:49:03 green /etc/gdm/Xsession[500]: Bluetooth:ERROR:rfkill-glib.c:83:type_to_string: code should not be reached
    May 13 10:49:03 green goa[633]: goa-daemon version 3.8.1 starting [main.c:113, main()]
    May 13 10:49:03 green /etc/gdm/Xsession[500]: (gnome-settings-daemon:536): power-plugin-WARNING **: Failed to run GetActive() function on screensaver: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.gnome.ScreenSaver was not provided by any .service files
    May 13 10:49:03 green /etc/gdm/Xsession[500]: gnome-session[500]: WARNING: Application 'gnome-shell.desktop' killed by signal 6
    I'm not sure if this really prevents gnome-shell from loading. My laptop has sandy bridge cpu, intel drivers ("sna" is on).
    In any case downgrading linux kernel worked for me and maybe will be useful for other people.
    local/gnome-session 3.8.1-2 (gnome)
    local/gnome-settings-daemon 3.8.1-1 (gnome)
    local/gnome-shell 3.8.1-1 (gnome)

    @404error: thank you! With that help Gnome is now back up and running with kernel 3.9 ...
    I followed the rfkill-glib.c diff given here, which finally did the trick.
    However, the network indicator LED on my HP Elitebook 6930p keeps flashing (blue/red) whenever I'm logged in. That's a little annoying, but a working Gnome certainly makes up for it.

    I just remembered to do that.....
    Think I have found my problem.
    The Arch Wiki for Gnome 3 has the line for installing to a new system
    # pacman -Syu testing/gnome
    This installs gnome 3, but does not include gnome-shell or gnome-panel
    Just installing them now. Will report back shortly.
    Maybe the Wiki should be updated to reflect this, or the package testing/gnome updated to depend on gnome-shell and gnome-panel.
    Cheers.

    Hi Michael,
    This error is seen due to a setting the dev team has disabled on the WLC and are expected to be fixed in 7.6. These messages are just cosmetic and have no impact.
    Workaround at this point is :
    These are warning messages displayed on the console. Instead of enabling warnings, errors can be enabled. So that it does not flood the console.

    Hi RichD Miller,
    Based on my understanding, you got the error shown in your post when you tried to update the schema for Active Directory. Right?
    According to the error message, there maybe a syntax error in the input file. Please help to collect the following information for future troubleshooting:
    How did you update the schema?
    Did you update the schema in GC? If not, please try in GC.
    For your information, please refer to the following article to get more help:

    I've gotten this warning when upgrading today:
    WARNING: Failed to parse default value `' for schema (/schemas/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/indicator/fontSize)

    Upstream = the developers (usually not members of Arch) of the original package.
    By "the maintainers" people usually mean the members of Arch who watch the upstream development and package up new releases when they become available.
    If a bug looks like it's a problem with the files were compiled or packaged, report it to the Arch maintainers. In a case like this, where it's known to be a bug with the upstream development, you should send the bug report to those developers. (Email them or better, google their bugtracker and post a bug report there.) You can notify the Arch maintainer of the bug report if you like, or if you're not sure whether it's a packaging bug.

    Should I ignore this pacman warning?
    WARNING: Failed to parse default value `' for schema (/schemas/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/indicator/fontSize)

    It was a bug in libgnomekbd that has been fixed in the latest version. When you update, the buggy version is uninstalled, triggering this warning. The bug is harmless though.

    Is that the WebDAV method that you are suggesting here to map the n/w drive?
    Its kind of webdav but you will be using windows nw drive to store data
    yes, I am able to create the file to D: , but didn't check with the C:.
    Try with c:, as c: require special permisssions

  • WARNING: Failed to get Network Cost info from NLM, assuming network is NOT metered, error = 0x80240037

    I have couple of VMs Server 2012 R2 RTM on Hyper-v Host running the same OS.
    All machines including host and VM that is not in domain have an error in Windowsupdate.log:
    AU WARNING: Failed to get Network Cost info from NLM, assuming network is NOT metered, error = 0x80240037
    FW and UAC are off on all. There are posts on web discussing the same error but most of them connect this to WSUS or Config Manager. And it is clear because we are touching Windowsupdate.log when troubleshooting WSUS. And because WSUS on 2012 is BUGGY this
    error confuses too.
    Finally, as mentioned earlier I deployed NEW server 2012 not from SYSPREP and did not place it to the domain. Updated the machine from MS update. Everything is OK beside the same error about COST :).
    So now it is clear it has nothing to do with WSUS or Configuration manager. It indicates to some Network issue. But there is no clear answer. Some suggest just to ignore the error if everything is OK. But I would like to have a clean log. And it is just
    interesting what could cause the problem. Is it Hyper-V stuff or Server 2012 itself. Anyway I guess I am doing right by posting a question on HV forum since here are people that should know 2012 .

    Hi pob579,
    Sorry for the late .
    I want to know if your network connection indicates " unidentified network ".
    If that is the case , you can try the step below :
        open the "local group policy"
        expand  local computer policy -->computer configuration -->windows settings -->security settings
    --> network list manager policies
        in the right pane you will see Unidentified Networks , double click it , then you can configure the
    Location Type when the network connection is unidentified
        If there is domain , you need to change the same entry in "Domain Policy"
        after that please restart your computer
    Hope this helps
    Best Regards
    Elton Ji

    Hi there,
    I have been struggling with the following error "Failed to acquire access to database" and ODBC driver error "Data source name not found and no default driver specified" when opening an IR document for a few weeks.
    The IR document uses an oce file called ABC.oce and DAS has been configured accordingly.
    ODBC System Data Source called ABC created on server running IR DAS as follows:
    - Driver: Oracle in OraClient11g_home1
    - TNS entry: ABC
    - Connection tested successfully;
    IR DAS entry ABC created as follows:
    - Connectivity Type: ODBC
    - Database Type: Oracle
    - Hostname: ABC
    oce file called ABC.ore created as follows:
    Interactive Reporting Database Connection
    Connection Software: ODBC
    Database: ORA8
    Host: ABC
    Username and password have been entered in the oce file as well.
    What possibly have I missed?
    Any help will be highly appreciated.

    Are you using the Hyperion ODBC drivers which comes with the Hyperion installation?
