Warning notice popping up (in FF 4.0.1) -- "Something is trying to trick Firefox into accepting an insecure update. Please contact your network provider and seek help." Is this a known issue? A manual check for updates results in 'Firefox is up to date'.

OS is Win Vista

This issue can be caused by the presence of leftover files in the Firefox program folder (defaults\pref) like a file firefox.js that overrides the update URL with a wrong link.<br />
Do a clean reinstall and be sure to remove the Firefox program folder.<br />

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
* Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
* Uninstall your current Firefox version.
* Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • I'm getting an error message from Firefox that says, "Something is trying to trick Firefox into accepting an insecure update. Please contact your network provider and seek help."

I'm getting an error message from Firefox that says, "Something is trying to trick Firefox into accepting an insecure update. Please contact your network provider and seek help." Do you know what is going on here--what this problem could be? (I do have the latest Firefox version already installed. I have previously received Firefox error messages that say "Firefox Update Failed." However, I already had the latest Firefox version installed when I received those error messages.)

Apparently this occurs when Firefox has problems with security certificates. There have been a few questions about this. I will try to get advice about this.
Apparently you are using Internet Explorer 9 (From your system details). Do you have Google Updater plugin installed on Firefox ?
(That been implicated in this sort of problem by one poster, and some users with the problem do have Google Updater, but some do not)

  • "Something is trying to trick Firefox into accepting an insecure update. Please contact your network provider and seek help."

This message appears in regular intervals. I think it is intended to prevent Man-in-the-middle-attacks that want to foist you a rogue Firefox update.
In my company the "Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway" with HTTPS inspection is used. This HTTPS inspection is done by installing a local (company-controlled) Certification Authority in the browser on the users computer and then performing a de/encryption of the SSL-stream on the proxy server.
But as Firefox not only verifies the certificate of the update server, but also the Issuer of the certificate, the update is rejected because of a possible Man-In-The-Middle-attack. In case of the "Microsoft Forefront TMG" this is an intended MITM-attack ...
Is there any possibility to change the expected certificate chain of the update server in Mozilla Firefox?

    To access the preferences:
<br> Type '''about:config''' into the url bar and hit enter. Click on the ''I'll be Careful'' button. Then type '''app.update.certs.1.issuerName''' in the filter or search box. Then double-click the pref or right-click > Modify and fill in the new value. Then close Firefox to save the changes.
To add the other 2 preferences (app.update.certs.3.commonName & app.update.certs.3.issuerName) that are not there by default, right-click on one of the prefs inside the the about:config window. Then choose '''New > String'''. Then fill in your custom values in the boxes that pop up for each preference. Make sure to close Firefox to save the changes.

If this happens on monitor 2 of 2, this problem has been solved here:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/794823#answer-157988
Go to "Firefox"--> "Options" --> "Advanced"
Then un-check "Use hardware acceleration when available"
While not verified, I believe this problem is due to an SLI configuration where the focus is on monitor 1. (I.e acceleration is available, but only on monitor 1.)

  • I think I have the latest Firefox version, but keep getting messages about updating it. 1 says something is preventing Firefox from updating securely; another says something is trying to trick Firefox into accepting an unsecure update. What's going on?

The 1st message goes on to say, "Please make sure that you have the latest version of Firefox from http://www.firefox.com." Assuming 4.0.1 is the latest version, it seems this is a bogus message and I haven't clicked on the link.
The 2nd message goes on to say something like, "if this continues [the attempt to trick Firefox into accepting an unsecure update], contact your network administrator."
I started getting the messages on all 4 of our PC's (2 desktops running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, 1 running XP 32-bit, & a laptop running Vista Home Basic 64-bit) after updating to Firefox 4.0 on them. I manually updated to 4.0.1 on all thinking that would stop the messages, but it hasn't.
I loaded & ran free versions of McAfee Stinger, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and Super Anti-Spyware programs on all our PCs; each program found & repaired some infected files on each computer, but the messages continue on all.
Thanks for any help you can give.

  • P2 Editors - Little help - Is this a Known Issue?

Does PPro crash with large P2 files?
Just upgraded our systems to cs5.5 - They all crash when playing P2 AVCIntra 100mbs files larger than 4gb. Tested on three different PC's and any P2 file that is larger than the base 4gb crashes PPro 5.5 while scrubbing through timeline - but the same files work fine on those same PC's while in PPro 5.0.
Its been many days since i last spoke with Adobe tech support (no surprise there - they were going to get right back to us while raising the case to tier 2 support) - and seemingly wasted 14 hours over three days with them prior to that.
Also, understanding the P2 file structure, do your video files within PPro show the full amount of all the files within a clip? or should it just show as 4gb?? -- when, in this case, most are 20 -30gb.  Both our 5.0 and 5.5 systems show 4gb even if they are more.
Thanks for any input or quick testing anyone might do on this?

Thank you for the replys guys!
Jim, I am not sure what you mean but I believe that I understand the P2 file structure and the 4gb limits of fat32 - and the spanning.
    Heres whats happening:
Direct copy and paste via laptop from P2 card (recorded by HPX370) to PC hard drive.
AVCIntra 100mbs files imported through media browser
Clips play fine in the preview monitor- no crash from preview monitor. (i understand that the preview monitor is a totally different animal than the timeline playback)
PPro crashes while scrubbing through the totality of these long clips on timeline - Sometimes it takes 40 or 50 secs but eventually it always crashes when moving the cti around that long clip.
If i am careful, i can keep it from crashing by not being aggressive with scrubbing. I assume that if I manage to stay in any one 4gb chunk its ok with that but once I start going from one end of the clip to the other quickly it crashes. No blue screen just PPro stops working.
Note: Any clip that is shorter than the 4gb has no issue. And I have duplicated this same issue on three very different rigs - I know that sound nuts, I am baffled as well.
To be clear on the file size - All the project panel information is complete and correct- timecode, duration etc.  But, any clip which is longer and larger than 4gb only shows as 4gb when right click to properties. - thats actually technically correct, but its been a topic of discussion  as to whether or not it should show the size for that file - OR the size of all spanned clips???  I have been working with P2 for four years and have never seen it read larger than 4gb - I bet if you checked you might find it the same?  All that said, I dont know that that is an issue or even related to my real problem of crashing while scrubbing on the timeline.
Might one of you be able to test a large clip and let me know what the properties of the file in the project panel show as? - It'd be great if I could rule that out.
    Thank You!
