Was researching the MSI R9 series fan failure plague when...

I found this thread: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=177493.0
Had to sign up just to laugh at the morons. Bitcoin and mining are criminal? Damn, guess that means MSI shouldn't deal with Tiger Direct. What's more likely? MSI hates bitcoin only when it comes to support. The sales they will take, failures due to constant use cannot be condoned.
Whats worse is the price they're charging for the fans. Clearly profitable to include bad fans, refuse to RMA a card due to "mining" or rather OpenCL use. Here's hoping they don't ban Folding@Home.

Well, as there is no use referring to a thread more than a year old and starting a thread with no technical query there is no point keeping this in vga section. Besides none in the linked thread had been an official MSI position as everyone who posted including the moderator were volunteer users. • Msi N460GTX HAWK Fan Failure

I have two N460GTX HAWK's.  They're in SLi.  One of them has had one of the two fans fail.  The fan is seized up.  For the last couple weeks I've been hearing what sounded like rattling case metal inside my computer.  Since the computer is 5 years old I thought nothing of it.  Besides I've had case rattle before and just wedged some cardboard spacers in to stop it.  Another thing I noticed was my primary graphics card seems to have been getting hotter than normal.  A few times the loud beep these cards make when their temp is approaching the limit has occurred.  I now see that one of the fans must have been failing.  To compensate for the temperature, I would just manually crank up my system fan and that seemed to work.
I seem to remember on September 16, 2010 when I bought this card that they came with a 3 year warranty.  Would this fan issue be covered under that warranty?
Also, I don't see the N460GTX HAWK as being sold by msi (or maybe anyone) anymore.  Should this become a RMA issue, would it be possible to get an exact replacement?
Today when I started my computer up, I had no video to my monitor.  I switched my monitor cable to my other cards DVI output and the video worked again.  My question is, if one of the fans fail on the N460GTX HAWK will the card stop working (to protect itself)?  The card with the bad fan couldn't have been hot yet since I had just turned the computer on.  Also the video was working just an hour or so before this.

I had not thought about the vrm temperature.  I have a Logitech G19 keyboard and I monitor the GPU's temps while I'm playing games so I think it's unlikely that the GPU has been damaged on my card.  Considering the vrm has no heat sink some of it may have gotten too hot.  I got an RMA number and sent the card to msi.  The card is due to arrive at msi on June 4th 2013.  Hopefully it's just a quick fan exchange and they send the same one back.
I feel compelled to add that, up to this point, these msi GTX460's have been excellent video cards.  The build quality is very high.  The heat sinks capability is excellent.  My computer is 6 years old and the airflow in my case is typically poor.  I often have to run my system fan at 80% to push heat out of the case.  These cards however have operated in this environment as though it was native to them.  I've estimated close to 2500 hours of continuous use on these cards now.  I consider one of the fans dyeing after this long and this much use to be a small incident and in no way detracts from the stellar performance of these msi cards.

mislav.ruzman this is surely not your topic. As you can see it's the topic of someone else seeking for help. Don't hijack that thread with your own issue but open an own (>>Please read and comply with the Forum Rules.<<). Unlike your vga's fans those of topic starter are physically defect.
    @Gamtu:
Of course the faulty fan is covered by warranty and is subject of rma. The defective cooling could have caused other defects (e.g. dying vrms because of overheating). Just contact your reseller or MSI and issue rma. MSI has always also older products for replacing defective items in stock even if those aren't sold anymore. If none is in stock you'd get a comparable current product. Usually it's a bit better one.

  • MSI R9 280x fan failure

    Hi!
    I have 2 MSI R9 in crossfire
I can see 3 out of 4 fans... are dying.. 2 stops.. and I have to manually start spinning them by hand and 1 other is really wobbly!
is it possible to send me replacement fans so I can replace them myself?

No. The complete graphics card(s) need to be RMA'd through your reseller or MSI Service Center depending on the area you live.

  • TS1630 I was in the middle of a call on speakerphone when the speaker just stopped working.  Could the spear on my 1 month old iPhone 5 have blown?

I got my IPhone 5 in April.  Today, while on a speakerphone call, the speaker just stopped working.  The support on Apple said if their troubleshooting didn't work (which it did not), to reset the phone.  I am really not interested in doing that.  So.....any other ideas besides what was already explained in the troubleshooting section?

the first thing to try is a reset
Hold both the home and the on/off button till you see the apple logo. Release the buttons and let it reset

  • VBios Medion Erazer x7821x equal to MSI GT70 Series

    Hi,
I watches this Forum for some time and i hope someone (eventually "Svet") can help me.
I have a Medion Erazer x7821 with GForce Gtx 670mx. This Notebook should base on the MSI GT70 Series.
My big Problem is the locked vBios of the GTX 670mx. With the original vBios its impossible to overclock the Card. MSI Afterburner shows no usable results and NVidia Inspector let me adjust the clock but every time i try to accept the changes the controls jumps back to normal (if i try to underclock the card with NVidia Inspector the changes are accepted). So i think the overclocking is completely blocked by the vbios.
I saved the vBios and try to edit it with "Kepler BIOS Tweaker v.1.25". On opening the saved ROM i become an Error and the programm closed (tried on Win8 and Win7) so i have no chance to see the real content of the File.
I got the 1,5GB Model GTX 670mx actual BIOS Version:
    Version:80.04.5B.00.A5 ID:10DE:11A1:1462:10D9
    GK104 Board - 2051b003 (Normal Board)
    GeForce GTX 670MX    (10DE,11A1,1462,10D9) H:--:NRM B:01,PCI,D:00,F:00
    Thanks
P.S.: Please forgive my bad english totay... had a looong night *lol*

This is an MSI forum. It only covers MSI retail products and no Medion products no matter what oem products Medion used.

  • MSI Mega series girder plugin version 2.0 available

    Hallo
    EDIT:
There is a new version out: check here for details of the version 2.
I'm proud to release the first version of my MSI Mega series plugin for girder 3.2. Thank for all the reported bugs :-). I implemented a new feature to set the time resolution of the remote control. People with the new firmware will enjoy the gained flexibility. Current version is 1.0.0.70.
    Where to get the plugin?
The plugin can be downloaded from my webpage. Check out http://n.ethz.ch/student/nschmid/MSIStuff for details :-) - [See note below]
    Which hardware is supported?
MSI MEGA series front IR controller. It has been tested with MSI MEGA 180/865/651.
What software do I have to install to use the plugin?
Girder version 3.2. Buy it at http://www.girder.nl ~20$
DLLs: MSIDrvIF.dll, ForMpc.dll. They come with MSI MediaCenter III Deluxe. Search for it.
    How do I install it?
Copy "MSIGirderPlugin.dll" from the "bin" directory into your girder plugin folder.
Copy "MSIDrvIF.dll", "ForMpc.dll" from your MSI Media Center III directory into the girder folder.
    What does it cost?
    Of course nothing.
    How to report bugs?
Check out the webpage for details.
I hope you enjoy it. Developing will go on :-)
    Best regards
      Nathan
EDIT by Stu: The plugin is now attached to this post and can be downloaded from here now. :hat tip:
[ ERROR: SPECIFIED ATTACHMENT MISSING ]

    Sure.
You have to install MSI Media Center because it installs the driver for the plugin. The required DLLs are not sufficient because ForMpc.dll need mpcsys.sys and assosciated files. I couldn't figure out all the dependencies but with the installation you got all you need.
1.) Now you can launch setup.exe and it should install everything automatically.
If that don't work: Copy MsiDrvIF.dll and ForMpc.dll form your Media Center installation into the girder directory (normally C:\Program Files\girder) and MSIGirderPlugin.dll from my release into the girder plugin directory (C:\Program Files\girder\plugins). That's the system part.
2.) Now launch Girder and open settings. In the plugins tab search for the "MSI Mega series" entry in the list. If it's not listed you did something wrong into step 1. If it is listed check the checkbox left of the plugin. Then also check "Auto Enable Input device". Restart girder.
Create a new command (CTRL+ALT+A) click on it and on the right side of the window select the Plugins tab and click there on MSI mega series. Then click on Settings. As Time resolution enter 250 (a quarter second - depends on firmware of Bluebird VL+). As model select your model. Press on OK.
Restart girder - your settings will apply.
3.) Now when girder is opened again you can press the remote and check if the LED on the right side of the status bar changes color. If that is so everything is ok. If not: Check all steps again.
4.) If you want to launch my sample configuration: Go to girder website and download the Popup OSD plugin by Mark Fiechtner and install it as written in the readme file of Popup OSD. Launch girder and go to the plugins tab in the settings. Check AlarmTimer and Popup OSD there. The sample file should work now. Unfortunatly you have to rerecord some of the makros because the version of winamp or PowerDVD are perhaps not the same as in my computer.
For this stuff please post in girder forum. I don't support the sample file.
    Hope that helps
    Regards

    HELP

    http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4403&highlight=Powertek+600W&page=2
well ok guys though im guessing this is not much of a surprise, the powertek lasted 8 whole days! now admittedly the 3870 toxic edition draws a fair amount of power requires 30A on the 12V rail, it should be well within the specs of the PSU as they were listed. it wasnt. its a POS and newegg is refunding my money which is being put towards an antec tq850. i decided im upgrading my mobo to the k9a2 platinum and getting a second 3870, and saying f*** it and getting my phenom 9850. why b/c i friggin can  besides i will then use what i will be trading out to build a rig for my best friend who i owe some money to and who wants a gaming rig rather badly. so bottom line is F**K powertek stick with quality. i know better than to not listen to my own advice and spend the extra money but i went against my own advice and now im out my gaming for a bit, but at least my backup 15$ apevia 420W will run it underclocked and w/o any gaming so i can write this. this same apevia ran my SLI rig with no probs when i had it. i upgraded it asap and kept it around as a backup just in case...glad i did. hope this helps. oh and the biostar TA770 mobo is fantastic, it survived 2 PSU's dying on it in its first week of use. and kept the rest of my parts on line and safe as well.

  • How do I download stuff from the MSI site?!

I am trying to get the User Manual and updated BIOS, Drivers, Utilities etc. for the MSI Z77A-GD65 Gaming MB.  When I go to the download site all I get is a run around - full circle.  I go to Service and Support>Download>Z77A-GD65>Z77A-GD65 Gaming>Download and then right back to the product page.  Around and around I go!!  Can someone please tell me the secret that will allow me to get at the information.  I'm using Explorer 10 on a W7 system.

i know exactly what you are talking about
    you are doing this:
    http://www.msi.com/service/download/
    then to
    http://www.msi.com/service/search/?kw=z77a-gd65%20gaming&type=product
    then to
http://www.msi.com/product/mb/Z77A-GD65-GAMING.html <--and its doing that because the downloads for the board are there not anywhere else! but it sounds like you are then doing it again from stage 1....
and it sounds like you are expecting it to take you somewhere else (all the downloads are always on the product page as MSI keep them all in one place so they they are easily found!)
i have to say if you are not understanding this then there is not much that we can do here as we have been explaining why it sends you to the product page AS THE DOWNLOADS ARE THERE!

  • Question about the fans spinning in the MSI GTX 980 gaming

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forums and also new to MSI. I just bought one of their 980 gtx gaming cards.
So far it seems pretty awesome. Was a little shocked when I realized that the fans on it don't even start spinning unless the card reaches at least 60 degrees. That's a really neat feature.
However, I opened the side of the case and played some games for a bit to give it a test, and I noticed that even when the fans did start, they didn't both always start. At first it was just the right one, but then the left started as well after a while.
Then a bit later, I noticed the right one was off and the left one was stopping.
Is it normal for these MSI cards to be independent of each other?
    thanks.

Frankly I didn't even bother finding out my stable clocks on stock voltage this time around and went directly to +87mV. I have a case with so-so airflow, and yet OC'ed, max load I never see temps above 72C (with 100% fan profile at 65C which is the max temp before Maxwells throttle).

  • Adobe Customization Wizard XI: setup.ini was not found (while saving the MSI)

I have downloaded the Adobe Customization Wizard XI and the Adobe Reader XI .msi file. I am only attempting the customize three options of this application. When I try to save the .msi file I get an error "setup.ini was not found".
I have placed the .msi file in a folder on the desktop. Additionally, I have tried using 7-Zip to extract the .msi in an effort to find the setup.ini file.
Where is this file located? What is the solution?
    Any help is much appreciated.

Just install Adobe Reader on a machine.  Then you will get the flat files in a folder location that has the Setup.ini file.  It will be something like this depending on your OS:
    Windows 7 64-bit Example Location
    C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Setup\{AC76BA86-7AD7-1033-7B44-AB0000000001}\
