Waveform Names to Menu Ring String Property Node

Hi,
I am extracting waveform data (names) to go into a menu ring as string data.
It seems to work, apart from when you actually click on the menu there is no text (though you can successfully change it).  I am wondering if it is to do with the odd symbol in front of the name but not sure how to get rid of it.
Hoping it is something simple but it is just knowing where to look with all the options available to you.
Please see attached.
Best Regards,
James

Hi James,
You were 99% of the way there all you needed to do was to pull that weird character from the string, I used the “match pattern” function to allow me to isolate that character and pass the resultant string into the text ring property node. A good bit of advice if you find a character in LabVIEW that you do not recognise or if you are unsure about spacing, right click the output string and select “ ‘\’ codes display “ this will show what the code representation of the string is and you can just feed that directly into the “match  pattern” function. I have attached my code (LabVIEW 2010 if you need in previous version please just ask) for you to have a look at. I have used a producer consumer template and selected multiple input channels from a simulated PCI 6220.
P.S. I’m not sure where that character comes from??

  • Populate ENUM RING via Property Node String[]

Can you populate an ENUM Control using it's Property Node String[] Element? If not, is there a way to do this programmatically? So far I have failed to do this.
    I am Using LV6.1.
    Thanks

Mr. Kring can probably come up with a much better example, but here's a quick one-off example in LV 6.0.2.
Download both attached files. Open enum_target.vi, and note that the enum shows only a single choice, "Before". Open Change_enum.vi, and point the file control to the enum_target.vi. Run the Change_enum.vi. The contents of the Enum control in enum_target.vi should have changed to the string array in Change_enum.vi.
This is a simplistic example, but it should work. Explanations are given on the diagram of Change_enum.vi of how references are pushed around in it.

  • Need to set "Title", "Display Name" and "Name" fields to custom string property "RMA Number" for each instance of custom work item

    Hi,
We have a custom Work Item we use to track RMA's. I've created a string property called RMA Number which is also used as a key.
RMAs do not have titles or any other identifying properties other than the unique RMA number (think incident number).
I was wondering what the best approach would be to set these other fields ("Title", "Display Name" and "Name") to the RMA Number value (RMAXXX), as I'm currently investigating using a powershell script via a workflow.
    Thanks,
    Pietro

    Hi Marcel,
I've come up with the following:
    # Load the SMlets module
    Import-Module SMlets
    # Get the RMA Class
    $RMAClass = Get-SCSMObject -Class (Get-SCSMClass -Name MyWorkItem$)
    foreach ($RMA in $RMAClass)
    $RMANumber = $RMA.RMANumber
    $RMA | Set-SCSMObject -PropertyHashtable @{"DisplayName" = $RMANumber; “Title” = $RMANumber; ”Description” = $RMANumber; }
Is it possible to make it aware of which RMA work item executed it, and only update that one? Updating all the records each time a new one is created will cause some problems in the future.
    Thanks,
    Pietro

Open up your Stations Parameters Control.ctl file and change it from a Strict Type Def. to just an ordinary Type Def. (the pull down menu is located next to the font selector).

  • Waveform Plot Name in Legend Reverts to default even if I change it with a Property node

I have a waveform chart where I am trying to name the plots different titles, so that they appear in the plot legend with a meaningful name, rather than 'Plot 1', 'Plot 2', etc.
However, no matter what I do, if I try to change plot 0's name to anything, the plot name changes for a split second, and then reverts to the name that it originally had.  I can succesfully control the names of the other plots, but not plot zero.  I have enclosed the VI with the graph control, which I cut and pasted from another VI.
It seems that the properties of this control (though it is not  a custom control) are set, and that these settings take precedence over the Propery Node Instructions.  Is this a bug, or am I missing something.
    Try it for yourself.

    Ignore attributes help says;
If FALSE (default), the plot names in the plot legend automatically adapt to the plot names in the dynamic or waveform data attributes. If TRUE, the plot names do not adapt to the dynamic or waveform data attributes. Change this property to TRUE if you want to change the plot names. This property applies only to graphs and charts with dynamic or waveform data.

  • Using a property node of a menu ring to generate a secondary address does not work in a subvi unless the subvi has been or is opened. Why?

I am writing drivers for third party equipment using LabView 6.1. I am using the property node, digdisp.text, to get the item number of menu ring. This number is being used as the GPIB secondary address for the equipment. This vi is one many subVIs like it in a main vi.
The only way the main vi works consistently is if I open all the subVIs, otherwise the secondary address isn't picked up and I get a EARG and ENOL error in NISpy and a GPIB write error in the Error Out cluster.
I have attached an example of a NIspy capture of a failed attempt.
    Attachments:
    Capture.spy ‏9 KB

    Hi,
    EARG (4)
Error Condition: Invalid argument to a function call.
Description: EARG results when an invalid argument is passed to a function call.
Possible Cause: The following are some examples: you call ibtmo with a value not in the range 0 through 17 (possible timeout values correspond to a table of values ranging from 0 to 17, where the default is 13, which represents a 10 second timeout); you call ibeos with meaningless bits set in the high byte of the second parameter; or you call ibpad (or ibsad) with invalid addresses.
The reason you are getting the error is because not only is your secondary address invalid, but your primary address is also invalid. Lines 14 and 16 of your attached NI-SPY capture set
the primary address (ibpad) and secondary address (ibsad) respectively. You need to make sure that you are passing the addresses properly to the subVIs using a connector. It seems like your programming when sending and receiving data (like the addresses) from your subVIs is not correct. You have to be sure to pass the data back and forth in the proper method using connectors.

  • How do I configure the mixed signal graph property node to set the plot names

I have a mixed signal graph displaying digital and analog data in two groups.
I would like to programmatically set the names of individual plots i.e. rather that the digital graph displaying 'Digital 0->Line 0'  I would like to set it to 'Signal 1'  in the vi.
    How do I do this?
Probably via the property node but I cant get this to work without errors?  (i.e. i cant find the right combination of node arguments to set.)
Also,  I can set the names of the plots of the component waveforms programmatically, but when I bundle the plots together to form the mixed signal graph, the plot names are reset to the mixed signal graph default values. Can this behaviour be turned off?

What are you doing? You need to select the plot first and then set the name, like this:

  • Populating Strings[ ] on a menu ring

I have a menu ring inside of a cluster. The cluster is embedded in an array. So essentially I have an array of clusters where each cluster has just a menu ring inside of it. I'm trying to programmatically populate the Strings[ ] property for each menu ring, for every array position. The Strings[ ] property for each menu ring will be different for each array position.
I can't see any way to do this programmatically? There seems to be no way to access the Strings property when the menu ring is embedded in this manner.

I tried that long time ago, no way until some geeks will find a way ....
My workaround: Since I wanted it for a configuration setup screen, I made a seperate popup window for the selection.

  • Y scale flip in waveform graph when using property node.

I'm having problem with property node. I'm trying to build a stackable scope with Waveform Graph And dynamically change the number of plots. It is working. But The Y scale is flipping. The minimum goes on the upper part and the minimum scale goes down. when I change it appearance it's not very fast. It take about 1 or 2 second on my computer.
The way it is build actually is:
Cluster_1 is containing 8 clusters. And each of the 8 clusters are containing a Waveform Graph. By reference I change the property of each Waveform to make visible or not each of the Waveforms.
First I would like to solve the scale problem and second accelerate the redrawing of my scope.
Maybe there is an other way t
    o do what I need.

Wow, you have a neat program! The problem with your y axis flipping is because the last four charts in the cluster were programmed with a flipped axis. I relabeled the charts and it worked correctly.
From what I could tell with your code, you do not need the sequence structures. The one inside of the even actually runs the same code twice. Remove this duplication and you should see improvement. Also clusters are slow, so you should not expect it to blink back with additional coding. Use defer panel updates to get that behavior. I incorporated these changes and attached the program.

  • Any alternate solution to using Waveform Chart Property Nodes 'ActPlot', 'Plot.Visible' for mulit-plot color problem on PDA?

    Hello,
On a waveform chart, 4 signals need to be plotted based on the status of 4 boolean inputs. Eg. if the first boolean input is true, the first signal needs
to be visible on the waveform chart; if the first boolean input is false, the first signal should not be visible on the waveform chart and so on. This can be
done on LabVIEW desktop using the Waveform Chart Property Nodes 'ActPlot', 'Plot.Visible' - a sample VI "BundleSignals_Select_Desktop.vi" is attached for
    reference.
But on PDA, since the Waveform Chart Property Nodes 'ActPlot', 'Plot.Visible' are not supported, some other method has to be used. I have done the
selection/de-selection of these signals using 'Insert', 'Delete' array functions as shown in the attached VIs "BundleSignals_PDA.zip" which works, but the
problem is that the colour of these signals do not work as desired when the selection/de-selection of these signals is done - It is required that the first
signal should always appear in White color, the second signal should always appear in Red color, the third always in Green color & the fourth always in Blue
    color.
I hope i have made myself clear of the problem. Has anyone faced this problem before & is there a solution?

Unfortunately the only alternative to using property nodes is to set the properties manually on the development environement. The limited size of memory does limit us in terms of features for the module.

  • Tree Control Property Node for Accessing "Child Text" String Array

When adding items to a tree control using the EditTreeItems invoke nodes, the inputs include "Child Tag", "Item Indent", "Child Only?", "Glyph Index", "Child Text", and "Left Cell String" as can be seen in this screenshot.
There are property nodes for the tree control for accessing each of these elements, except for the "Child Text", which is an array of strings. It is possible to access this data as outlined in this forum post, but this method is somewhat involved and round about.
I suggest that a property for the Tree class be created to access the Child Text array directly.

The work around only works if you do not have an empty string element some where in the middle.
At lest could the "Active Celltring Property" read return an error when you have gone beyond the end of the array.

  • String ring menu ring

One function I have found super useful is the string ring, but I can't find it!  The menu ring is pretty easy to find, right click on the front panel and it is listed right there under text controls.  But, every time I want a string ring, I have to go into a vi I got help with on one of these forums and copy/paste it in, which is silly.
Also, if I have a menu ring constant (like the one below), is there a way to convert it into a string ring constant (which I also do not know how to make other than the very roundabout way of making a sub.vi with a string ring input and creating a constant) without having to re-type all of the values?

no,  the combo box item editor (and menu and enum item editors) that ship with LabVIEW do not live up to expectaions.  I imagine that some people have a "roll your own" plug-in handy that adds functionality like multiple separators, blank values, duplicate values, and string to number conversions. Feel fre to vote on this idea
Type cast might be fairly easy to move some of the items though (as Darin is probably typing at the moment)

  • Set chart value (property node) from a waveform ARRAY?!?

    Hi!
In Labview 8.0 I want to send data to a front panel chart via its value property node. This works just fine if I wire a single waveform to the value property (attachment1). However, if I wire it with a waveform array (attachment2) it fails. Is there any workaround?
    Thanks in advance,

The reason I was showing this with only one graph was that
    the
two-graph version failed for me. I had tried having separate data
sources, of course. Just to be sure I have rebuilt the VI from scratch
as per your diagram (see attached image and VI) and run it again with
    the same results:
The failure was not in my inability to see the
plot but rather in an error message (attachment) which would only
occur if I tried to wire more than a single plot into the value node.
I subsequently also tried doing this using 1D and 2D DBL arrays and
observed a similar problem: the 1D case works fine, the 2D case throws
"insane object" errors and crashes labview entirely.

  • "menu ring" enum string

    Hello,
I have string commands and descriptions of these commands,
on the panel I want to have the descriptions of this commands
on a control that looks like a "Menu Ring" and on the diagram
I want to have a string as an output of this control (I need the
string commands for a serial hardware), e.g.:
String Command: Description of the command
    B1: Configure as Pt100
    B2: Configure as Ni100
Is there chance to create a string control that looks like a "Menu Ring"
and behaves like a "Enum" control?
I have two workarounds, but perhaps you have a more clever solution.
