WCS Linux Upgrade

I am trying to upgrade a Linux WCS and when I run the command in linux I get permission denied. I do not have alot of experience with the Linux operating system but assume I don't have rights run the command. I am logged in as the root user. Do I need to change the rights of the file to run it? What are the commands to change those rights.
\Thanks in advance.....

type ls -al
You should see similiar the following:
-rwxr-xr-x  1 root  root  300685722 Mar 12  2009 WCS-STANDARD-K9-6.0.58.0.bin (your version here)
The 1st rwx is user read/write/execute, the next, r-x is group read & execute & and the last r-x is world (everyone) read & execute
If not, you can simply type chmod u+x WCS-STANDARD-K9-6.0.58.0.bin and possibly g+x WCS-STANDARD-K9-6.0.58.0.bin to give executable access to the file.
If you are in the same directory, add a ./ before the name of the file(no spaces)

  • Wcs license upgrade issue

    Dear all,
We have two 4400 controllers which support 50 Access points each and wcs with 100 base license. Now we added 5508 controller supports 50 access points.wcs is upgraded with another 50 ap license. The 5508 controller is joined to wcs and the licence showing permanent.WCS showing all aps and showing both 100 and 50 licence as permanent.
But the issue is while loging into the wcs it showing the error message as"The system is in violation of license. The number of APs registered is greater then licensed."
What might be the reason. Please help me.
    Attaching the screen shot.
    Thanks in Advance
    Bose.

Because your WCS is still licensed for 100 APs ....
There are 2 license level : Base and PLUS.
You had a 100 AP Base license.
You bought a PLUS_UPG license which upgrade 50 out of your 100 AP count to PLUS.
Result : you now have 100 AP licensed on WCS, out of which 50 have the "PLUS" feature set.
You should have ordered a "BASE ap count 50" license. or if you want to go to plus, a "plus_UPG" license but for the 100, and then a plus ap count 50.

  • WCS base upgrade to PLUS license question

I have a 50 AP base WCS running. What kind if license do I need to order to be able to do location? These two have the same price, but can I upgrade to 100 WPLUS from 50 BASE by ordering the second one?
    L-LIC-WPLUS-50
50 AP WPLUS  license (Delivery via Email)
    L-LIC-WPLUS-100U

You would need an upgrade license to go from base to plus.

    • If  you are an EXISTING customer who wants to upgrade from a Cisco Base to  Cisco PLUS license, order WCS-PLUS-UPG-K9 and select one of the  Cisco WCS PLUS upgrade options below:
WCS-PLUS-UPG-50:  License supports up to 50 access points. <---------------------
WCS-PLUS-UPG-100:  License supports up to 100 access points.
WCS-PLUS-UPG-500:  License supports up to 500 access points.
Note: The number of WCS-PLUS-UPG-K9 licenses purchased must equal or exceed  the number of installed WCS Base licenses for the Cisco WCS to register  as a Cisco WCS PLUS system. Thereafter, additional capacity is added by  ordering PLUS licenses.

  • How to upgrade the OS on WCS(Linux)?

I want to upgrade my WCS to RedHat Linux 5.0.  I have burned the iso image to a cd, rebooted the WCS and find nothing happening.  Prior to rebooting, I start a SSH connection to the appliance so I figured that I would see it come up and the upgrade start but then I lose the connection.  Does anyone have any info on upgrading the OS on a WCS?  TIA

Thanks for the reply.  I simply copied the iso to a cd.  during the reboot, I lose my console connection.  So it sounds like I am not burning the cd correctly?

  • WCS won't start after Linux Upgrade

    Hi,
I've just upgrade RH to v5.0 and it all seemed to go fine except WCS won't start. I was running v5.0.56.0 on RH v4.0 (I know it's not supported) on a WLSE appliance, which ironically seemed to be fine. Now I get this....
    Database server is running
    Apache server is stopped
WCS is registered, but not initialized.
The Server seems to be unavailable. The possible reasons are
    1. The server is not running yet.
    2. The server is hanging.
    3 The server has crashed.
If the server has crashed or is hanging
Please report the issue and follow the instructions to restart it.
    1. Run StopWCS to stop all WCS processes.
    2. Run StartWCS to start the WCS server.
    3. If the server still fails to start, or you still get this
    message, then reboot the machine.
Any suggestions will be most welcome.
    Thanks

  • WCS/Redhat Upgrade Question

    Hello all,
I recently migrated from the WLSE appliance to WCS Version 4.1.83.0 as well as Redhat Linux 4.0 (via the 2 CD's that were shipped). I would like to upgrade my WCS to the latest version (7.0), with the following upgrade path in mind:
    4.1.83.0
    to
    4.2.62.0
    to
    5.2.110.0
    to
    7.0.164.0
My question is do I need to upgrade my Redhat to 5.0 Enterprise version as well in order to support this upgrade? My understanding is that the WLSE appliance is no longer an appliance and is now a full fledge WCS SERVER, in which case I do need to upgrade Redhat. If so, is Redhat 5.0 free to upgrade?
Thanks for the help as always.
    Bobby Grewal

    Hi Bobby:
Yes, in order to run WCS versions beyond 4.2, you'll need a Red Hat upgrade on a converted WLSE.  Because the conversion process brought Red Hat provided by Cisco, the converted WLSE is indeed an appliance (it's just not called that) and Cisco does indeed provide the Red Hat upgrade.  You can open a service request with TAC and they'll post the ISO image of the Red Hat upgrade CD for you, or give me your Cisco.com ID and I'll post it for you without an SR.
As for your proposed upgrade path, if this was *my* WCS installation to address, I'd go:
4.1.83.0 to 4.2.128.0 then run Data Cleanup
    4.2.128.0 to 6.0.181.0
    6.0.181.0 to 7.0.164.0
Long and short, avoiding some bugs and letting 4.2 executables clean a 4.2 database before exiting the train, then bypassing 5.* altogether.

  • WCS Software upgrade on WLSE appliance

    Hi

However, I do not know how to upgrade the WCS, since the WLSE is a stand alone appliance running on Linux and the WCS is just a GUI interface hosted from the WLSE appliance. Please how do I go about this upgrade. Thanks

  • What are the important points during a Linux upgrade with Oracle database?

Is there a specific document or metalink note that I may follow similar to this one during a Linux os upgrade -

  • Linux upgrade and many less OS processes

We are 11.5.10.2 in a split database configuration. Our database server is 64bit and our apps servers are 32bit. We are in the process of replacing our servers and upgrading our RH Linux version from 4 to 5 in the process. Everything has went fine but I'm seeing differences in the number of Linux OS processes being created on the ccm/reports and apache/forms servers. I'm not seeing any problems with the applications functioning and no diagnostics reporting errors and not errors in log files. Basically all seems fine except that I'm concerned about the vast differences in the number of processes on the OS. Below is further information.
Does Linux 5 handle java processes/child processes differently than Linux 4? Both servers are running java version "1.6.0_07". I have not be able to figure this out yet. Thanks for any input.

ps -ef count for GSMSvcComponentContainer = 2

  • Confused on WCS Licnese Upgrade

I have one WCS running 7.0.164.0
It has a "plus" (permananet) license for 50 APs
I need to increase my AP count, so I have obtained an additional licnese for 100 APs from Cisco.
When  I attempt to upload the new licnnese the WCS, I get an error telling me I must first have a Base License.
I would have thought that if the WCS initially came with a Plus license, then the Base License would already be included.
    What am I missing ?

    Dennis,
WCS licenses can't be mixed. The stacking would need to be happen in a certain order. In this case, since you already
have a PLUS license only PLUS licenses can be stacked on top of it. The right part for this would be WCS-PLUS-100 whereas you have been sold WCS-PLUS-UPG-100 (UPG is an upgrade license which goes only top of a BASE license). You would need to exchange this for the right number & then host the license to get it added to WCS.
    Hope this Clarifies a bit.

  • WCS License Upgrade

    Dear All
I am trying to upgrade a WCS running a plus license f 100 access point. with a base license of additional 50 access point.
the base license is already purchase, is there any workaround to do this?
please check attachment to see the error
    Thanks,
    Elie

    Hi,
If WCS is licensed for the feature type - PLUS,  only PLUS licenses can be added.
Whereas the license file you're trying to add is a BASE license which can't be stacked on top of a PLUS license. Hence the error reported by
    thus the error.
For ex , WCS-PLUS-50 for plus while WCS-APBASE-50 is for base.
