Linux upgrade 6.2 to 6.4
We wish to upgrade few of our linux OS 6.2 to 6.4,
We have databases and EBS, OBIEE applicaitons on our servers.
Prior to upgrade we need to know the effect of OS upgrade on our db's and EBS, OBIEE applicaitons.
Please let me know the tips, know how, FAQ's, documentations etc for this . . .
Regards,
Djay
Djay,
1. from db side we can relink the binaries
2. EBS side also we can relink the binaries
I believe you are aware of the steps, however you may see (What Are The Requirements For E-Business Suite When Upgrading Operating Systems? (Doc ID 1061303.1)).
3. OBIEE (don't know)
4. OBIEE uses weblogic (don't know)
Please see (OBIEE 11g: Do Need to Re-link the OBIEE Binaries after Upgrading the Linux Kernel and Kernel Headers. (Doc ID 1554289.1)).
Thanks,

Red Hat Linux Upgrade - 2.4 to 4
Hello all,
In our environment SAP is running with 4.7E with oracle database and we are planning to do a hardware migration and Red Hat linux upgrade from 2.4 to 4
So the plan is such a way like that
1. Taking backup from the live production system.
2. Installing 4 red hat linux in the target machine and installing SAP as well.
3. Restore the database and bringing up the system.
We are not following the method of Export / Import due to consideration of downtime.
I have been working in windows platform and have performed migrations and database migration but I am not aware of linux environment. What are the preparation do i need to do interms of linux upgrade / Migration.
Kindly help me out
Regards

Yes - that's the way to go.
Simply follow the system copy guides.

What are the important points during a Linux upgrade with Oracle database?
Is there a specific document or metalink note that I may follow similar to this one during a Linux os upgrade -
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28300/toc.htm
Lets talk on an example; we may talk on upgrading details of a RHEL3 RAC system with Oracle options used like ASM,OCFS etc. to RHEL4. What steps are important to take by order and what are the best practices to be careful about during this type of an os upgrade for Oracle?
Best regards.may I need to get support from https://linux.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=101 for this kind of a documentation?

I am trying to upgrade a Linux WCS and when I run the command in linux I get permission denied. I do not have alot of experience with the Linux operating system but assume I don't have rights run the command. I am logged in as the root user. Do I need to change the rights of the file to run it? What are the commands to change those rights.
\Thanks in advance.....type ls -al
You should see similiar the following:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 300685722 Mar 12 2009 WCS-STANDARD-K9-6.0.58.0.bin (your version here)
The 1st rwx is user read/write/execute, the next, r-x is group read & execute & and the last r-x is world (everyone) read & execute
If not, you can simply type chmod u+x WCS-STANDARD-K9-6.0.58.0.bin and possibly g+x WCS-STANDARD-K9-6.0.58.0.bin to give executable access to the file.
If you are in the same directory, add a ./ before the name of the file(no spaces) -
after a $pacman -Syu ....

Linux upgrade and many less OS processes
We are 11.5.10.2 in a split database configuration. Our database server is 64bit and our apps servers are 32bit. We are in the process of replacing our servers and upgrading our RH Linux version from 4 to 5 in the process. Everything has went fine but I'm seeing differences in the number of Linux OS processes being created on the ccm/reports and apache/forms servers. I'm not seeing any problems with the applications functioning and no diagnostics reporting errors and not errors in log files. Basically all seems fine except that I'm concerned about the vast differences in the number of processes on the OS. Below is further information.
Does Linux 5 handle java processes/child processes differently than Linux 4? Both servers are running java version "1.6.0_07". I have not be able to figure this out yet. Thanks for any input.
Linux 4 processes (ccm/reports server)

Linux 5 processes (ccm/reports server)

ps -ef count for GSMSvcComponentContainer = 2
ps -ef count for rwmts60 = 1Here is one example using the reports processes. It is like the child processes are not getting spawned but as noted I can find no errors and the applications are working.

Hi,
I have recently completed a vulnerability assessment against IPS modules in an ASA and have had a few vulnerabilities flag up.
The Vulnerabilities are surrounding the Linux OS that the IPS sits on.
Does anyone know if the OpenSSH can be upgraded and how to configure the certificates in Linux.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. You can't perform any lasting changes in the Linux OS on the sensor. If you do change something, it will get over written during the next OS upgrade.
Here's the documentation that discusses certificates on the sensor:

WCS won't start after Linux Upgrade
Hi,
I've just upgrade RH to v5.0 and it all seemed to go fine except WCS won't start. I was running v5.0.56.0 on RH v4.0 (I know it's not supported) on a WLSE appliance, which ironically seemed to be fine. Now I get this....
Database server is running
Apache server is stopped
WCS is registered, but not initialized.
The Server seems to be unavailable. The possible reasons are
1. The server is not running yet.
2. The server is hanging.
3 The server has crashed.
If the server has crashed or is hanging
Please report the issue and follow the instructions to restart it.
1. Run StopWCS to stop all WCS processes.
2. Run StartWCS to start the WCS server.
3. If the server still fails to start, or you still get this
message, then reboot the machine.
Any suggestions will be most welcome.
Thanks

Linux upgrade not running for me :(
Hi,
Sorry, I already posted this in a different forum, but I think this is a better place for it.
I've been using JRE v1.4.2 in Redhat Linux, but have just installed v1.5.0. When I run "java -version" it still says I'm using version 1.4.2. How do I get the new version to run?

Oracle Upgrade 8.1.7.4 to 10g in Red hat linux
Dear All,
We are planning to upgrade our oracle database from 8i to 10g along with the Redhat linux upgrade from 2.4.9-e 27 ent to Red Hat Linux 5. In my study and also from Installation guides and oracle upgrade guides I made sure that its possible to upgrade our database from 8.1.7.4.
So I have planned the below options to do the same and not sure about the possibilities. If anyone have thoughts and idea on the same please suggest me.
We dont have plan to migrate the development hardware and the sap version is 4.7E
Option 1: Upgrade the Linux to 5 and then upgrading the database to 10g usign upgrade assistant tool
Option 2: Export the database using sapinst tool and then crashing the server. Installing linux5 and importing the database using sapinst tool.(I am aware this is not a good idea since there is no migration in hardware but it will be helpful in production since we are migrating the production system).
Option 3: Performing DBUA assistant in development and sapinst method in production.(helpful in disaster recovery)
Could you please suggest on the same?
My query is that.
If i am performing oracle export from 8.1.7.4 and if i am import the same in oracle 10g using the sapinst tool. Will this work? or it will create a problem in table level. I am looking for answers for this Question. Kindly explain me on this.

CCX 4.5 to 9.0 upgrade SKU question
Our customer wants to upgrade his Cisco IP phone system to version 9.1.
Now they are using CallManager version 5.1 and CCX version 4.5.
CallManger upgrade is clear to me but the CCX is not.
I have read in Cisco Unified Contact Center Express Upgrade Guide:
"If you are running any other earlier releases of Cisco Unified IP IVR, such as 4.0(5) or 4.5, consider upgrading your system to Unified CCX 7.0(2)ES03 and then use this document to upgrade to Unified CCX 9.0(x) using the Windows to Linux upgrade."
So upgrading CCX from version 4.5 to 9.0 is possible.
But when I configure "L-CCX-90-UPG-LIC" in CCW I could set "CCX 9.0 UPGRADE - 7.0 to 9.0" only.
I cannot find "CCX 4.0 UPGRADE - 4.0 to 9.0" or something.
Which SKU I have to buy in order to upgrade CCX version 4.5 to 9.0?
Thanks in advance,
LaszloGergely brings up a good point. The decision needs to be based on how badly you want to keep the historical reporting data. If this isn't important to you then I would agree: you can save yourself a lot of time by just building a new 9.x install and manually migrating the configuration over.
Note that the Windows to Linux migration tool from 7.0 to 9.0 only carries forward roughly the most recent ~1.5GB of the database records so you'll experience some data loss even during an upgrade.

CUCM 8.6 upgrade to 9.1(2)
Hello all,
I've done some 8.5 upgrades to 9.1 so I'm quite familiar with the refresh upgrade process and the additional server downtime vs. say and 8 to 8.5.
On reading the upgrade guide for CUCM 9.1(1), I stumbled across this line on page 5 -
"You cannot install upgrade software on your node while the system continues to operate."
In the past when doing an Linux to Linux upgrade without a refresh required this certainly wasn't the case. You can't make changes and EM should be turned off but the upgrade was always going on in the background and a switch version was run when complete.
Has this changed?
Can someone chime in who has done a 8.6 to 9.1(x) upgrade on this?
I've got a really tight outage/downtime window to get a cluster upgraded and with 2 servers still on MCS, I don't think I can do it if I can't get a change freeze in place and get the Pub upgraded without taking it down. Having to start and finish the Pub, subs and the physicals in the window might not be possible even with a parallel upgrade.
Thanks
JonHi Jon,
+5 to my friend Aman for his good notes here :)
This has NOT changed....here is the note from the upgrade guide;
Linux to Linux (L2) upgrade
There is very little server downtime during an L2 upgrade.
An L2 upgrade is accomplished by installing the new software release in the inactive
partition while the node continues to run and operate on the existing software
in the active partition.
The software releases are switched on reboot. The reboot can be either automatic,
after the new software release is installed, or initiated manually at a later time through
an administrator command. Some examples of an L2 upgrade are upgrades from
Release 6.1(3) to 7.1(5), from 7.1(2) to 8.0(3), or from 8.6(1) to 9.1(1).
