Merci

  • WDTV Live has lost all content, Root Directory no longer showing on PC - HELP

Hi All, I disconnected my WDTV Live last night from my TV and connected directly to my router with a network cable. When I click on the WDTV under networks in my computer there is nothing there at all! no root folder, none of my files etc. I have tried dropping a new folder in there but it wont let me and the option to right click add new folder is not availble. When plugged back to the tv there is no file contents either, everything is gone. Please help, I'm runnning Windows 7, the WD still turns on, I have no files no root directory, NOTHING!

A co-worker of mine is having a very similar problem with her WD Media Hub.  I was the one who helped her get it setup when she first purchased the media hub (a few years back) and so she came to me when she recently went to use it and it acted like as if there was no content on the thing at all.   She brought me the device to work and i was able to get it connected to the network and access it via IE (using the web page at http://10.70.0.86:80/) but any attempt to connect directly via windows explorer fails.  The hubs name is the default WDTVLiveHub and when I type in \\WDTVLIveHub\ in Windows Explorer it can’t find the device nor can I map a network drive to it.  This is how we originally setup her media hub with content, using Windows Explore to copy a bunch of content.   When I was able to access the device via IE at 10.70.0.86:80 I went to the System and selected Storage and in the drop down for device the drop down is blank with nothing to select.  In the top right there as a red exclamation mark and when I selected it I got a warning saying the drive's was near capacity.  This tells me the files are there but for some reason they can’t be accessed. I did a hard reset via the button on the bottom of the device but that did not fix the problem with accessing it via Windows Explorer.  I told her to take it home and see if it will work for her when she hooks it up to her tv,.It’s definitely not a firmware update issue because she's not had it connected to the internet so any firmware update would have had to been done manually. Any feedback or troubleshooting suggestions is most welcome.

  • Mac mini and WDTV Live

My Mac mini (10.7.4) needed the following workaround in order for my WDTV Live to see my min's HD.
    http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/search/1/a_id/8538/c/130/p/208,393
The directory on my main HD is visible in LINUX, not NFS as noted. Works fine. However all my movies are on a USB HD and I'm having no succes in adding the USB HD to be visible on my WD. I've tried the drive name itself, the drive name plus a first level file name and creating an alias on the mini HD that points to the USB HD. All 3 options work in FINDER > GO > Go to Folder. However when running "showmount -e", the display says anything mapped to the USB HD is (offline) and the WD says that directory is unavailable. Any one have any ideas on how to correctly name a path that includes a USB disk drive?

Finally found the answer on a Mac Developers site. Need the word "Volumes" in front of the drive name.
    /Volumes/<drivename>
    Works great.

  • WDTV Live Plus and Time Capsule

I just got a WDTV Live Plus and I love it.  The only problem is that I see the Apple Time Capsule and iMAC right away in the network shares, but I cannot get on them.  I wanted to see what the issue could be.  When I click them I am prompted for an account and PW.  I put that in and after it thinks for a little bit I am given an error message that says "there are no supported files" or something like that.  I am thinking about attaching some external size via USB but I want to make sure it can work first.

SMB is windows networking standard.. It has limitations on name length.. so keep to no more than 12characters.. that is less than max.. from memory 20.. but use short names.. ie name of the Time Capsule.. TC.
SMB does not like names with spaces.. Apple by default uses spaces.. get rid of spaces.
And SMB does not like certain non-alphanumeric characters. Apostrophe is one of them. Apple wizard sets up the TC with your name.. eg Fred's Time Capsule.. all hopelessly wrong. From an SMB viewpoint.. and since Windows still rules the world.. and everything works on SMB.. including Apple.. and including Linux which both use SAMBA.. the linux version of SMB protocol. And therefore of course the WDTV Live which is Linux firmware device.
You change the name in the airport utility from a computer.
    eg.
So change the wireless name.. TC name and hard disk name.. so everything follows the rules.

  • How to view iPhoto photos from WDTV live

I use WDTV Live and would ideally like to be able to use it to view pictures via streaming from iPhoto on my MBP.  Is this possible, and if so, how do I do it?
    Thanks

I doubt it unless it understands the sturcture of the iPhoto library - a good source of support might be http://wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=330
It sounds like you can export photos and then stream them

  • How 2 boot into ubuntu live cd in macbook?

i dont know if this is the appropriate forum or not but here is my query... how do i boot into a ubuntu live cd in macbook? the cd works lfine on a windows laptop. do i need to make some bios settings? the bootup seems to just ignore the ubuntu cd.
    Neerav

Daft question, but you are selecting the cdrom as startup disk, by holding the letter C down on the keyboard as the machine boots, aren't you?
Personally I find holding down the 'alt/opt' key boot a better option, as the machine will show the bootable disks on the machine and then allow you to select the one you want. Not tried the ubuntu live, but this works fine with openSUSE and kubuntu 8.10 and on the icon I remember seeing the penguin next to the bootable cdrom. If the disk hasn't shown up in the graphical selection the chances are it is not a bootable disk.

  • Connect wifi to WDTV Live

We have a Tompson TG782T router and wifi usually works perfectly for all of our devices (phones, ipads and labtops). We've recently signed up to Netflix to start a 30 day free trial and would like to use our WDTV Live. We've never been able to get this device to connect to wifi. I've tried putting in the IP address and everything in manually several times (different people have also tried). Have also tried using the manual set up option. Different people have tried to put in the password several times also.Has anyone else experienced this? How did you fix it? Do we have to buy another multimedia device?

Did a bit more digging and sorted it.
Entered modem set up via these instructions..
    https://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/Modems-Hardware/Thomson-TG782T-modem/td-p/157902
Manually set router channel to 11, re-did WDTV set up as required and it worked first go.
Not sure why, but it worked.
    Cheers.

  • Cannot see wdtv live from imac

    hello everyone,
hope i am explaining it correctly:
the imac is the main computer where all data are.
the macmini is for internet, pictures and streaming data from the imac (mostly movies).
the wdtv live is only streaming from imac. (only movies)
as of yesterday, the imac is not visible to any device...
    restarted everything, nothing
changed the ip to manual, nothing
changed it back to DHCP, lost the internet
here is where i stop, any ideas?
    any help is appreciated!
    alex

Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup

  • WDTV Live Unresponsive to Remote

I've almost had enough of this thing. A couple of days ago I started it up and the remote was really, really slow and then became unresponsive.  I've tried unplugging the power, HDMI cable, etc.  but no good. How could WD release something so full of bugs.

I have 4 WDTV Live SMPs in my home..  The latest firmware version is shocking.. the reaction of the WDTV Live SMP to the remote becomes very flaky and unreliable.. multiple button pushes required on the remote for each action.. This has been seen on 3 WDTVs SMPs and 4 remotes...   my "un-updated" WDTV Live SMP running an old firmware version remains reliable with all remotes..   Terrible performance of Remote Control Version: 2.02.32Working Remote Version Number: 1.14.09

  • WDTV Live will not connect to network

Hi all, my WDTV Live suddenly stopped connecting to my home network. The unit freezes on the opening screen and nothing else happens. The hard drive hooked up to it fires up and the signal is going through to the tv. I have tried the reset button on the bottom of the unit. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply, Joey. I'm not sure what you mean by this part of your message. I'm a noobie at these forums...please be patient. I have been using the unit to stream Netflix via the wireless network in the house.. Everything has been hooked up the same way for months now, with no problems. Where do I find the factory reset instructions?JoeySmyth wrote:remove your hdd and try a factory reset via the ui ....Setup > System > Device Reset > Reset All Settings Back to Factory Default

  • Before I finally throw mine out, is there any reason to keep a WDTV Live Hub?

I just found my old WDTV Live Hub in the back of the closet. t hasn't gotten a firmware update in 2 years. It's missing too many of the online services that I use every day, like Amazon. I pulled the hard drive and installed it in my desktop machine about a year. It was a great little gadget that was probably ahead of its time--and I still love the UI--but I think it's time to recycle my WDTV Live Hub, but before I do, is there anything I can do with it? I have a Roku, a Chromecast and a Raspberry Pi 2 with Plex. (These are on different TVs throughout the house.) I know you can't put XBMC (sorry, Kodi) on a Hub. There is alternative firmware for some WDTV boxes, but I can't find anything one that works on a Hub. I tried selling the Hub on eBay (before I pulled the hard drive), but I couldn't find any takers. Is there anything I can do with the Hub that I can't do with a Roku or a Chromecast or a Raspberry Pi just as well if not easier? If nothing else, is there a trick to saving the default background image? The Live Hub really does have the best UI of any streaming device I've tried, and I'd love to reuse that image somehow, maybe as a background for Kodi. Heck, are there any parts, other than the hard drive, that I can recycle and use on other projects? I don't like the idea of pitching any gadget if there's still some life left in it.

right-click "save image as"   I don't use my Live Hub much either ... but i do have a 3TB usb drive attached to it, which the WDTV Live Hub media shares (via Twonky) to my other devices eg. phone, tablet, Rpi2 etc p.s. if you're gonna throw your WDTV Live Hub away .... you can throw it my way Yeah! That's what I did with mine. Pulled the drive and installed it in my Zotac BI320 and moved ALL my music to it then added it to my Kodi library! Then I gave the Hub to someone that really loves the device and his had died. So he put his Hub's drive in it and is loving life again!

  • WDTV live won't see Macbook over network

The WDTV tech people basically threw their hands up, saying apple doesn't know how to design computers and I've exhausted all the AV discussion groups. Has anyone else successfully networked a WDTV to OS X (10.5.8)? I can see the WDTV, but it doesn't see my Macbook.
    I'm using a wireless router.
    1) The WDTV sees the network because I can play YouTube content.
    2) The Macbook sees the WDTV in the Shared sidebar. I can connect and play content (though I can't copy files too the USB drive).
    3) I've enabled SMB and selected my account
    4) I've created a Guest account and allowed Guests to connect to shared folders.
    5) In Network WINS I've set the NetBIOS name to COTTLE, added a workgroup called video, and changed the workgroup name on the WDTV to video, turned Auto Login to network share on. I'm not sure what to enter in the WINS servers. I put the ip address assigned to the WDTV.
When I select Video/Media Servers or Network Shares, nothing comes up. Once or twice the Media Server showed a Mac with an odd name, but all the folders said "no content."
My brother has a WDTV, but they have Windows. I tried it there to confirm that his WDTV does see the Windows machine, (so was set up for sharing correctly) but didn't see my Macbook, while I could see it.
    What am I missing?

Hello and welcome to the WD community.
