Web-Based Search

I would like to be able to search a directory of PDF's by their title and keywords in their document information. My original idea was to pull out the title and keywords with a small utility and add them into a database, then search the database and give back the results.
Can this be accomplished easier or at all using this XMP SDK? I saw an example called MetadataToDB in the samples PDF. Is this what I need?
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Lee

Yes. MetadataToDB sample mimics the asset/content management workflow, and integrate the XMP technology into a desktop database. See the knowledgebase article at:

  • Looking for a web based filemanager (or similar).

    Hello,
I have a small server at home hosting all my files and I am looking for a simple setup to be able to access these files from pretty much every where.
Usually I'm using ssh or sftp but the thought of being able to access the files through a web interface is really sounding good. So, I have been searching for a web based file manager and found a few, but none that really made me go wow.
The best so far is probably Ajaxplorer. One thing that I'm looking for though is a PAM authentication feature which Ajaxplorer doesn't have. Are there any web based file managers around that supports this?
Or... maybe I'm looking for the wrong things. Are there other nifty solutions available for accessing files on a remote folder through a web interface?

    zenlord wrote:
If PAM authentication is all you're missing, why don't you setup http_auth?
THX for the suggestion, I was looking for something like this myself and the next version should have LDAP_auth - alrighty then!
    Zl.
http_auth... do you have any nice links on how to use it? I've never heard of it
Ajaxplorer is quite nice after all and setting up repositories isn't all that bad. Looks like I'm sticking to it while I continue my search for another app.

  • I am experiencing difficulties opening some web-based PDF files on my iPad. I was having the same difficulty opening the same PDFs on my iMac (after I upgrade to Yosemite) but was able to overcome it by adjusting the Adobe Reader plug-in settings.

I am experiencing difficulty opening some web-based PDF documents on my iPad. I had exactly the same difficulty on my iMac (after I upgraded to Yosemite) but was able to overcome it by adjusting the Adobe Reader plug-in security settings in Safari (in OSX).
Unfortunately there does not seem to be a way to similarity adjust the security settings in Safari in iOS 8.
The message I get when I attempt to open the PDF (on my iPad) is as follows:
"To view the full contents of this document you need a later version of PDF viewer. You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader from ..."
Needless to say this is unhelpful for two reasons:
    - I have the very latest version of Adobe Reader; and
    - in iOS Adobe Reader is not a plug-in and plays absolutely no role in opening web-based PDF documents.
If anyone has experienced this difficulty and has been able to overcome it I would be most appreciative to hear of you solution.

what will be helpful to me of the UML.UML generally visualizes the core functionality. See http://www.google.com/search?q=uml+tutorial for some tuts.
What should i start first --- jsp or db design.Start with both and end with the best balance between both.
What should i use for web based project --- only use
jsp(presentation)+dao or jsp+servlet+dao.Depends on the business needs. Generally 3-tier webapplications are the best: web, business and data.

  • Implementation costs SuS-SRM scenario (service procurement/web-based)

    Hi out there,
I am currently trying to rough-estimate the implemantation costs for a SuS-SRM scenario (service procurement - supplier enablement/web-based) with all the components it requires:
software-wise: SRM with SuS and XI would be needed
    Hardware-wise ? (rough estimate)
    Consulting fees ? (rough estimate)
Current facts: SAP Enterprise 4.7 in use
Or maybe somebody can refer me to a SAP price list. I have searched high and low with no positive result. A rough estimate would be good enough.

    Andre

    Dear Emmanuel,
Yes you will not find the Interface mapping after the scenario generation. These SRM scenarios are Proxy communication scenarios and mainly involved with no change in structures.
Regarding the Communication channels, yes you have to create the channels first, before the scenario generation.
The SRM scenarios are mainly used with proxy communication and you have to create channels with adapter type XI.
In your case - the scenario is - Service_Procurement_SupplierEnablement . you have to create two receiver communication channels. this scenario mainly exchanges data between EBP and SUS. the integration happens with the below interfaces-
    InvoiceConfirmation_Out, InvoiceRequest_Out,  PurchaseOrderRequest_Out, ServiceAcknowledgementConfirmation_Out, SupplierPortalTradingPartner_CreateOrChange_Out ,  InvoiceRequest_Out  etc.

  • ITunes Web-Based or iTunes Match?

I'm sorry if this is not in the correct place. I searched for about an hour and did not find anything.
I have a really old ipod classic that i'm wanting to replace. My main issue in deciding between itunes and something like Amazon, is while I'm an Android user, I think music is best on an ipod, but I do not want to have to rely on iTunes.
We do not load iTunes on our workstations, and I have a seven year old workstation in our IT closet hanging onto its last breath just to run itunes. So here are my questions:
    1) Will the new itunes that i'm hearing about be web-based at all? I'm wanting to download music from my ipad or ipod from the store, and just have it available in itunes. But i DO NOT want to have to buy music or upload it through iTunes?
    2) Will iTunes Match in a way fix this? If i purchase iTunes match, can I now control all my music through match, or will i still have to have iTunes?
    3) I'm wanting a wifi ipod, but I really don't care for the ipod touch, mainly because it's like the iphone without the phone part. Are any other ipods wifi where I could purchase music through a wifi connect?
Please help. I'd love to stay with ipods, but like many people, i'm not wanting to hang onto iTunes, and i'd rather manage my music in the cloud in a web-based itunes or perhaps if itunes match could do this.
thanks in advance for your help!!
    Jason

I appreciate your professional and kind response, but alot of people feel that way. Especially the millions of people like me that like some of apples products, but feel that other devices might meet their needs better, or they might be in a work environment where PC or Android is more the norm.
Most other software is available web-based and I would have just thought this would have been a natural progression.
iTunes is a very resource heavy product, and people that enjoy the ipod and the benefits of iTunes, shouldn't be locked into having to download the huge program.
    Thanks again for your response.

  • Web-based data visualization tools

Hi.  I originally posted this question to the LV forum, but I am going to modify my question because I think Diadem may be a good solution for us.
I am embarking on a interesting research project that will involve recording lots of physiological signals from patient monitors in a hospital.  I will be recording signals like BP, spO2, Pulserate, ECG, etc.
Right now, my main design concern is how to give clinicians access to the data after it is recorded.  I think Diadem might be a good solution, but I really want it to be web-based.
    Here is my wish list:
    - Store the data securely, where access can be restricted and controlled (e.g. user must login)
    - Allow users (who are granted access) to login and view historical data via a simple web browser
    - Allow users to pick datasets amd zoom, scroll, etc.
    - Allow user to view data in stacked plots (e.g. so they can see multiple signals simultaneously on the screen and scroll the time axis)
    - Allow user to annotate data (e.g. add comments at specific timestamps)
Do you have any reccomendations for a web-based data visualization tool like this?  Do you think Diadem meet my needs?

    Hello J Osborne,
You application sounds like a great fit for DIAdem and the DataFinder, with the exception of the Web-based nature of the application. We currently do not offer a native web interface to DIAdem and it's features, but there are ways to accomplish that using established technologies such as remote clients ...
Here are my comments to your individual questions:
    - Store the data securely, where access can be restricted and controlled (e.g. user must login)
    * The DataFinder Server (which works with DIAdem) technology can be used to give specific users access to only data they are supposed to see, so we can cover this part of your application
    - Allow users (who are granted access) to login and view historical data via a simple web browser
    * This would have to be achieved via a remote client solution, since DIAdem offers no native Web client
    - Allow users to pick datasets amd zoom, scroll, etc.
    * This is something that the DIAdem NAVIGATOR and DIAdem VIEW are very good at, including the ability to search for data sets based on specific key words, patient names, etc. and the ability to look at multiple data sets simultaneously in multiple windows with zooming and scrolling.
    - Allow user to view data in stacked plots (e.g. so they can see multiple signals simultaneously on the screen and scroll the time axis)
    * That's DIAdem VIEW, sounds like a perfect fit: http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/7384
    - Allow user to annotate data (e.g. add comments at specific timestamps)
    * DIAdem VIEW has the ability to highlight events with cursors, and we could easily add the ability to add comments through a custom dialog and a short script. We could prepare and demo this feature for you ...
I would be happy to discuss your application with you in more detail. Feel free to contact me at (800) 531-5066 (ask for Otmar Foehner) or via email at    otmar DOT foehner AT ni DOT com.

    Hi,
I have a problem where my company doesn't want to
spend any money on new software but also wants web
based reports. I don't want to re-invent the wheel
here and am trying to develop a list of reasons why
we should'nt. Page breaks and numbering comes to mind..
HTML can't handle page breaks so how can I actually
make the printer spit out a new page?? Please help
with a good list of reasons to I can convince Mgt to
kick down with $ for a reporting package..I just get
the feeling that developing this on my own will only
lead major functionality problems that are hard to

    Thx!!

    Hi John,
You could take a look at Oracle9i Reports features here (here you can get some reasons your mgmt might be interested in)
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/getstart/whitepapers/datasheet_reports.html
You can see how many tools/plugins/samples/whitepapers are available for a professional reporting solution like Oracle9i Reports
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/getstart/GettingStarted/index/index.html
You could search this Discussion Forum itself on any topic (like "printed reports", or "web-based reports") to get an idea of the kind of problems one might encounter in an enterprise reporting solution, and the professional support users can get. Customers have access to 24X7 support, and a website listing helpful notes, latest patches, etc.

  • Online Chapter on using Web-based Services

    Dear All,
I just added a new chapter to my ["Killer Game Programming in Java"|http://fivedots.coe.psu.ac.th/~ad/jg/] website. It's about programming techniques for writing standalone programs that employ Web-based service APIs for searching Google, Amazon, eBay, and Yahoo.
As a test-bed, I've implemented an application which sends a book title to a service, and gets back a PNG image of the book's cover. I've written five versions: one each for Google, Amazon, and eBay, and two aimed at Yahoo.
It's chapter 33 "Using Web Service APIs", located in the "Networking" section, about 2/3 of the way down the page.
    Your comments are appreciated.

As it appears, without evidence from you to the contrary that you are asking how to use Java to steal copyrighted content I would humbly suggest that you investigate, whether (a) the activity is illegal (b) whether you feel comfortable legally and ethically in helping someone steal content.
Happily your actual Java related question is quite trivial and the fact that you had to to ask and couldn't either figure it out on your own nor find a suitable answer through searching suggests that you will be unable to provide the client with what they ask based on your current skill set. Aka the legality won't be an issue since you don't appear competent enough anyway.

  • IOS5 and Google Web Page Search Is Tracking You???

(...Sorry had to updated this post with non html imported text....)
IOS5 and Google Web Page Search Is Tracking You
Since upgrading to iOS5 I have found a new behavior with Google search web page that was not the same behavior in iOS4.  The Google search web page in iOS4 Safari would keep a history of your recent searches, even if you were not logged into a Google user account.  (I want to be clear that I am talking about the Google web page search, not the Safari/Google toolbar, nor any additional Google app installed on the iPhone!)  This search history was helpful on the iPhone as it allowed you to research or modify a search with less touch typing required.
Previously in iOS4 you could go into the iPhone Settings>Safari and find options for clearing cache, history, cookies (and I believe website data/databases).  After doing a clear of all these options you could go back to the Google web page search and find that Google's web page and your browser had forgotten all you past search terms.
I always understood that when searching with Google, their website always provided a cookie file that gets stored on you computer/iPhone and that Google used this cookie data file to help id you as a unique visitor to their search web page.  Based on this cookie file, Google was able to keep a history of your recent search terms and most suspected that Google could even tailor search results for you based on recent search terms and location information you had chosen to provide to the Google search web page.
With iOS5, I am no longer able to clear my cache, history, website data, or auto fill forms options in the iOS Safari settings so that that all Google cookies or other data is removed from my Safari web browser.  No mater how I work through the Safari settings for clearing my browser data files, each and every time I go back to the Google web page search it still provides me a history list of all my past searches, even after clearing all cache, cookies, history, and website data settings.  Again this is only the Google web page based search, not the Safari search tool bar.  Again this occurs for Google search users that are not signed into a Google user account.
After pounds of searching, the only way you can clear this Google web page search history is to follow the link/directions on a mobile device to a Google page with these instructions:
    “Clear search history on iPhone”
For users not signed in to a Google Account
Follow these steps to clear your search history:
            Tap Settings on google.com.
Select Clear saved searches to remove your previous searches.
Note: This will remove all of your previous searches done on the phone. If you don't want your searches to be saved, tap Settings, then under the Search History section select Do not save searches. Be sure to save your preferences."
    http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=163061
This is what all of the world's web bloggers find and point you to when people want to know how to clear their Google search results.  What I am outraged about, is that everyone isOK with this and seams to think this is a good thing???
If I have cleared all my web data from my Safari browser, how in the world is Google providing me with old search results every time I go back to the Google search web page?
Why is it that I have to go to a specially crafted Google webpage for mobile devices and then tell Google to stop tracking my search results?
How in the world is Google still tracking me after I have removed all cookies, web site data, and autofill settings from the Safari browser and while I am not logged into Google?
What possible identifying information am I still providing to Google that uniquely identifies me and provides my own personalized search history?
The only thing left that is possible is that Apple's iOS5 is providing some unique identifier, or that Apple has decided to omit clearing of Google's cookies from the Safari browser cache.  If you go to the mobile webpage link for Google web search settings and choose to clear you search history, Google honers this request.
    http://www.google.com/preferences?hl=en
(note this is a different preferences page on the mobile version, not the same options as a desktop browser)
Here at this preferences page you can also tell Google not to “Save” your searches.  If you are NOT logged into a Google user account, the search history is cleared, but then all saved settings are defaulted back to tracking/saving you search results if you are not logged into a Google user account.
The problem with this is you always have some unique ID that is being sent to Google, without you consent.  Google promises that they will not track your search, but you have to go to Google web search settings and request that they get ride of data that they are already tracking about you.
YES we should all know by now that Google is collecting information about what you are searching on with cookies that are stored on your computer.  Google has now a public habit of doing this for all users by default, even if they are not logged into a Google user account.  This is fine because up until now, you could always clear your web browser cache and your Google cookies would be wiped clean and to Google you would appear to be a new user.
YES again I know that Google could use my IP address as a common unique identifier for me.  But these Google webpage search issues are also happening on a iPod touch that is only connected to Wifi, and the Google search terms are following me around from new hot spot to new hot spot, even after clearing the Safari web cache in between new Wifi locations.
The only possible explanation is that the iPhone/iPod and Safari web browser is providing Google some unique identifier about me that is persistent, even after all Safari web browser cache data is  supposed to be cleared.
How and why is the iPhone iOS5 providing a unique id about you to Google's web page search???

andrewfromfreeport – I truly appreciate you looking at this and contributing.  My hope is that more people can take a look at this.
But that “Clear History” link at the bottom of the Google web page search is exactly what I am worried about.  That is a server side link that you can use to ask Google to kindly stop tracking your search history.
I am fine with Google using what ever tools they can to track my search.  That's what they do.  What I am having issue with is that Apple/Safari is enabling this with some unique identifier that allows Google to have a lasting connection with me, everywhere I go.  It used to be that web browsers were built to allow you to clear your history and provide some level of privacy.
I find it very interesting that this persistent behavior with Safari and Google has just started after Safari was given a private browsing feature.  So now with a wink, and a nod, Apple will provide a unique ID about you, to Google and who knows who else, without your permission.  If you really have any need for privacy, you have to go enable the private browsing feature, and who says that works???
Looks like I might need to go dig up the EULA for iOS5, as a bet there are new terms allow indexes or history of device usage for error reporting of other features....
Last week I posted the same day iOS 5.01 was released, hopefully this post will hang at the top long enough for some more attention...
