WebGL enabling/updates for Mac pro?

In using Seene (3D photography app), i had the below notification:
Hmm. While your browser seems to support WebGL, it is disabled or unavailable. If possible, please ensure that you are running the latest drivers for your video card.
I am currently using a Macbook Pro (OSX 10.9.2) with intel graphics 4000 and Geforce GT 650M. Technically it should be able to run webGL, but somehow its disabled? Where can I find the settings to enable this? Going on the nvidia website I couldnt find a corresponding update for the Mac version of my graphics card.... Thank you for taking time to help!

the instructions in my last reply apply only to Safari. I don’t use Chrome myself, but my understanding is that version 18 and above of Chrome should fully support WebGL, and that it should come with WebGL enabled. When you point Chrome to chrome://flags, does it say that WebGL is enabled, or that it’s disabled? When you point it to chrome://gpu, does it detect any problems with your GPU?

    You have reached the end of your ability to update 10.5 for free, and will have to buy a new DVD for 10.6 to upgrade to the 10.6 Snow Leopard level. Luckily, it is not very expensive (US$20, free shipping).

    OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it updated with software updates from Apple.
    A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
    Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
    Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
    Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
    Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
    Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
    Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
    Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
    Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
    Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
    Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.

    The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
    OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
    Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
    If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
    Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
    Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
    Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

    thanks for the prompt response...i appreciate it.  according to the link you listed, that's correct.  the strange thing is that prior to the upgrad to mac os 10.8.4, photoshop CS5 was working just fine and i was able to open my canon raw files with my current camera raw plug-in version 6.7 which adobe has indicated is the last camera raw update they'll be offering for cs 5
    so it's clearly an issue related to the "upgrade" of the os.  seems like every solution creates 6 new problems...further evidence for the notion that if it ain't broke don't fix it!  thanks again.

  • Unable to install updates for Acrobat Pro 9.0 and MS Office 2008

    This is a followup post to a nagging problem last fall that prevented successful installation of product version updates for Acrobat Pro 9.0 and Microsoft Office 2008 running under OS X v10.6.5. Days of fruitless, circular pursuit of solutions from both Adobe and Microsoft tech support provided no recognition of the problem…let alone an answer.
    Fortunately, a few helpful techs at a nearby Apple Store yielded results. They were initially as perplexed as their counterparts but it gratified to this customer when each recognized the problem was real and was sufficiently motivated to track down a solution.
    By process of elimination it was suggested: i) reinstall the original Snow Leopard 10.6.0 upgrade disk; ii) download the v10.6.5 combo update to bring the OS current; and iii) download and install the Acrobat and Office updates. It worked—perfectly—the first time.
    The consensus seems to be that a combination of many successive installations of OS and product version updates eventually produced conflicting instructions resulting in stalemate.
    Remarkably, it hasn't been necessary (or appealing) to perform a clean install since some point prior to the introduction of OS X. Nor has it since. A 'rollback' to the original Snow Leopard version with one subsequent update to the current OS version appears to have cleared out a nest of remnant conflicting instructions. Kudos to Apple's tech support and Occam's Razor.

    However, PDF Maker plugin would not be enable in Outlook, as Acrobat 9 is not support with Office 2013.

    Any of the current HP e-Print capable printers support AirPrint capabilities without even having to enable the e-Print stuff that's purely HP.
    Also, make sure your exisiting network router at home supports multicast protocols.  The majority of retail routers support this and you won't have issues, but I've run into problems with carrier issued modem/router combo units from Comcast made by Arris that don't support multicast and other protocols and hence, will not allow for the necessary discovery protocols for AirPrint to work across the wired or wireless network.  In cases like that, the fix is to place those units in "bridge mode" and then use your own router behind it that doesn't restrict that capability.  Just FYI.

Are they my submissions so that you don't want to tell other people?

    The following fixes have been done in the December update - #13.1.0.226
    1) Fix for Multi-line Errors are not being reported in Flash to Flash Builder workflow
    2) AIR for Android UI dialog: Shared runtime and emulator deployment options under Deployment section gets enabled on adding AIR4.0 SDK. This should not be enabled since we dont support shared runtime from AIR 3.9 onwards.
    Also certain null checks were added to fix crashes based on crashes logs that were reported.

    Apple released J2SE 5.0 Release 4 on Tuesday, an update for Mac OS X 10.4.5 Tiger users. According to notes provided with the update the release delivers improved reliability and compatibility for the Java 2 Platform Standard Edition 5.0. With today's release J2SE 5.0 becomes the preferred Java version, superseding Java 1.4.2. Apple notes that Java 1.4.2 is still installed on the machine, but applications will run with J2SE 5.0 unless they specifically request Java 1.4.2.     what a long post....Apple, btw, does not read this stuff, so ranting, raving, and complaining here might make you feel good, but it does no good at all. That being said, I, too have a Mac Pro Quad Core Xeon with 6 gigs of ram and an nVidia 8800 GT graphics card (not as good as yours, alas) and I've had no problems at all with it. Yes, it doesn't have Thunderbolt, but maybe we Mac pro owners will get lucky and someone will come out with an adapter (probably not). No, you probably don't have to throw away your Mac Pro, but if you do, I'll take it, for a small "recycling" fee >:-) That was a joke.  Yes, the Mac Pro's future isn't quite clear, YET. Hopefully that will improve very soon. As for not being able to upgrade to Mountain Lion. Don't worry about that too much, Nobody is forcing you to do that.  Your Mac Pro won't quit working if it isn't installed. From what  I've heard, you should give the new OS a chance, and wait to get it, in case there might be some bugs, or stuff not working with the new OS, which has been known to happen. Yes, we Mac Pro owners don't like being treated like mushrooms-kept in the dark, and being fed......... but Apple is Apple and it will do what it does, and there is nothing you or me can really do to change that. All I can say is....trust, have faith, be patient, go for a walk, do something else to take your mind off of this problem. IF apple decides to drop the Mac Pro for good, and that's a big "IF", I think they will anger a whole bunch of people
    which isn't good. However, that hasn't happened...YET. Let us hope that it doesn't

    It is a only a problem for users affected by the malware that replaces their DNS IPs on their macs. They already have a serious problem which they should fix. Follow the url in sig's post to determine if you are infected and how to remove it.

    Actually, no. That computer was designed for thunderbolt from the start. It is a feature enabler card, not an expansion card.
    I hope this will change soon, but not soon enough to hold my breath.
    There will never be a thunderbolt card for Mac Pros.
    Two reasons:
    1- Even the 2012 Mac pro used 2 year old hardware, that means even the very last Mac Pro Apple sold last month used 3 year old technology. Its not economical to make new hardware for old technology in a very small market.
    2- Thunderbolt communicates directly with the CPU, GPU and PCIe hardware. That means they have to be designed to communicate with the thunderbolt controller. Since thunderbolt was introduced in 2011, a full year after the last Mac Pro (5,1) was designed, its hardware has no possible way to communicate with it.
    Thunderbolt is not  "an extension of the PCIe bus" like eSATA is an extension of SATA, its an entirely different communication protocol.
    If it were just an extension, it would be far cheaper and easier to implement and there would be more than just a handful of products on the market that support it. Right now thunderbolt is making Firewire look like a runaway success!

    Anyone adding USB 3 ports to the older Mac Pro desktop towers?
    I looked at HighPoint, Orinico and StarTek but I'm leaning towards Inateck given their recent PCI-E board update specifically for Mac Pro.
    Anyone have any USB 3 recommendations or horror stories?  I've got all 4 internal drive bays taken so I don't think I can easily get power to the board, so I'm hoping the internal PCI-E power will be enough for most USB 3 devices.

    le and supposed that it was a bug fix release for his version - because the v17 ov18 number is not often displayed. It is usually just 2014 CC.
    I have asked him to post a bug report about Adobe Illustrator CC 2014.1

    Before you do anything else or buy anything, you should check the limitations of your machine.
    Minimum specs for Snow Leopard (10.6.x)  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 
    And for Mountain Lion.                      (10.8.x) http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
    Otherwise you could just be wasting time and money.
