WebHelp: opening a topic with search results highlighted

Hello! I am using an external search engine to index a large documentation set, including some WebHelp output. I would like for the returned results to open matching WebHelp topics with the matching search terms highlighted. Is there a supported URL pattern for this, or does anyone in this forum have experience using additional JavaScript to do this? I'm happy to code it into a master page, but recommendations for a good starting JS library would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Jason

It will depend entirely on the search engine you use. I have used ZoomSearch and what you want can be set up there using code provided by ZoomSearch. You will need to approach whoever supplied your engine.

  • Sorry, something went wrong - Open Office File from Search Results Page with Office Web Apps

    Hi,
I'm getting "Sorry, something went wrong" error when I'm trying to open any office document from inside Search Results Page with Office Web Apps, the same error is appearing in the document preview as well.
The error in SharePoint logs says that the file cannot be found.
Please note that this error is coming only when the "Filename" of the document is not written in English (in my case its written with Arabic characters).
If I try to open it from the document library, its opening properly with no errors.
    The only difference between two URLs (document URL in Search Results and in Document Library) is the value for "sourcedoc" attribute;
In the case of Search Results page, the filename in "sourcedoc" attribute is kept as is with Arabic characters.
While in the Document Library, the filename in "sourcedoc" attribute is converted into different characters (something like: "B9%D9%85%D9%8").
Anybody have an idea on how to overcome this issue, implement a workaround or modify the "sourcedoc" behavior?
    Thanks in Advance.

    Dear Wendy,
Thanks for your efforts, I already tried your last suggestion before, but this didn't solve my problem.
Actually my end users are accessing this portal using ADFS and HTTPS.
Finally I got this solved, I have done below to get my overall solution working perfectly:
    - First I have configured Windows Authentication and ADFS Authentication on the same zone which is the default zone.
    - The issue when opening office documents with Arabic file name has disappeared as a result of first change.
    - Then I have faced an issue where we are not able to crawl content under Default zone, however we have to do so, after too many efforts, I found that its related to the Load-balancer/proxy, I have made the crawler server
    to crawl himself (http://CrawlServerName:PortNumber).
    - Also a change on Alternate Access Mapping was needed, I have set one of the extended zones (which is running Windows Authentication only) as Internal URL for the Default Zone, and this is was the URL I used for Crawling.
I have configured Server Name Mappings to make sure we got proper URLs in Search Results.
    - Then we faced another issue, which is Authentication selection on login page (How to bypass this page, and authenticate using ADFS auto), I used this solution (Set Custom Sign In Page):
    http://0ut0ftheb0x.wordpress.com/2014/01/04/skip-the-authentication-selection-page-at-_logindefault-aspx-in-a-mixed-authentication-environment/.
    - I faced one more issue as a result of above workaround; Sign Out functionality wasn't working well; users get logged in automatically whenever I click on Sign Out. I solved this by modifying the "Sign Out" Control under _layouts;
I made it to redirect users to ADFS Sign Out Page instead of SharePoint Sign Out Page (I know its not recommended, but I don't have any other option).

  • Error opening PDF files from search results webpart on anonymous SharePoint 2013SP1 site with IE

Clicking search results, in the strict sense pdf files, using IE on an anonymous SharePint 2013SP1 site, I received the error: There was an error opening this document. The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
I would like to solve this problem on the server side.
    Starting position:
    SharePoint 2013 SP1
    Web Application:
    based on template 'Publishing Portal'
    Anonymous Access enabled
Claims based authentication: Integrated Windows Authentication NTLM
    Client Integration disabled
    Site Collection:
Anonymous Access enabled for 'Entire Web site' => group 'Anonymous Users' was created
added permission to open items: $Web.AnonymousPermMask64 = "ViewListItems, ViewVersions, ViewFormPages, Open, ViewPages, UseClientIntegration, OpenItems"
    Client side solutions:
c1) Open Link with “Open in new tab” or “Open in new window” => OK
c2) Disable IE Add-on “Adobe Acrobat Sharepoint OpenDocuments Component” => OK
c3) Set bDisableSharePointFeatures to 1 in regetit => OK
    Server side solutions:
S1) Turn off Client Integration => didn't work, still same error
    S2) Modify DOCICON.XML => didn't work, still same error
I gave these two options a chance:
    first: <Mapping Key="pdf" Value="icpdf.png" OpenControl="SharePoint.OpenDocuments"/>
    then: <Mapping Key="pdf" Value="icpdf.png" OpenControl="AdobeAcrobat.OpenDocuments"/>
    I modified DOCICON.XML on both hives 14 and 15.
    Remarks:
    - After changingparameters I allways did an IISreset.
    - As far as I understood I can only change bDisableSharePointFeatures on Client Side.
    Any help, suggestion, idea wellcome!
    Thanks!

Hi folks, here's the reason for my problem. I used the oob search result web part. The result items (PDF items) are rendered by the template Item_PDF.html/Item_PDF.js. This template holds a code snippet that assigns a certain OpenControl to the PDF item - that's hard coded. So, no matter what you configure in DOCICON.XML, the PDF item will be opened with the control "PdfFile.OpenDocuments". Solution is e.g. just to leave the OpenControl blank.
    template:
    /_catalogs/masterpage/Display Templates/Search/Item_PDF.html
    /_catalogs/masterpage/Display Templates/Search/Item_PDF.js
    code before:
    ctx.CurrentItem.csr_OpenControl = "PdfFile.OpenDocuments";
    code after:
    ctx.CurrentItem.csr_OpenControl = "";
    Enjoy

  • Hiding Topics From Search Results

I have about 7 different types of users that require
different and private set of documentation. My plan is to use
conditional build tags to deliver a help set for each user. I'm
delivering noncontext-sensitive help and via batch processing.
Later I'll ensure that each help set is context-sensitive, and have
the product call the correct one. I'm trying uncover flaws in my
architecture. I'd like to streamline if possible.
What's cool is that my product's interface has built-in
profiling, so the product already knows what windows/tabs (context)
the user can access. Seems like a perfect way to deliver
context-sensitive help for all my users. But, can I do so with just
    ONE help set?
I can disable TOC, but one thing I can't figure out: How
would I prevent users from seeing private content launched via the
search engine? I'm just trying to figure out how to use only one
help set and still restrict content. Unlikely, right?

There's another way to do this:
    1. Move all the screen capture topics to a new (secondary)
    project.
    2. Create a new CHM file from the secondary project.
    3. In your primary project, open each link to a screen
capture image. In each case, the Hyperlink dialog will appear.
    4. Open the
Link to drop-down menu, and then select
    Remote Topic.
    5. Navigate to the secondary CHM file.
    6. Select the desired topic from the secondary CHM file.
    7. When you are finished, generate a new CHM file from your
primary project. The secondary topics will
not appear in your search results.
I found this in the RH Help files or the Knowledge Base; I
don't remember which. Also, if you don't want to repeat these steps
for each link, you can edit one link, copy the code from the
TrueCode pane, and use a find-and-replace feature to replace the
old code with the new target. That should cut down the time
    tremendously.
(FWIW, I use drop-down hotspots when I show such captures at
    all.)

  • Change the colour of search result highlight?

Hi i am wondering 2 things. Firstly, why the default colour that a search result is highlighted in is a strange medium-dark blue, and secondly why there is no option to change it.
Its really hard to see any search result on almost any document, and its common knowledge that almost all documents in general have black text.
I thought the main purpose of any search tool anywhere in the world was to save time trying to find a word amongst hundreds or thousands of other words.
I guess adobe with their millions of dollars and experienced team weren't able to think of this.

Click calendars at the bottom of the page the click on the i symbol for info and then you can select the colour you'd like.

  • Customize the layout set used when opening a folder in search result list?

    Hi,
I have created a search result iView that uses a predefined search query to show a list of folders. If I click on a folder <i>(rnd:displayname(contentLink)</i>) its content is displayed in a new window. Here the layout set Consumer Explorer (default profile?) is used.
I want to use a custom layout set in this window. How can I achieve this?

You can either check the <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/documents/a1-8-4/Implementing%20Flexible%20UI%20One-Step-Screenflow.article">Implementing Flexible UI One-Step-Screenflow</a> tutorial by Thilo Brandt or search here on SDN for "UI Command implementation" examples.

Normally, as you can see in the above mentioned <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/25/59bb2eece725498427334e0e21b80c/content.htm">Priority of Settings</a>, whenever the KM Navigation component (com.sap.km.cm.navigation) is opened without a specific layout set the global default layout set is used. As you can give this parameters by different ways (as URL parameter, in the KM Navigation iView configuration, via OTH file definition, hardcoded or configured in the configuration of an UI Command, etc.) it is nearly impossible to find <b>all</b> situation where your users will get this default profile.
The UI Commands (with selection) you mentioned like "copy","move","create_link" use the configured LayoutSet (ConsumerOnlyFolderSelector) from the KM Configuration (of the command).
    > <i>3. You can also create a Layout Profile and go to

    > Can you give me a hint on the other possibilities you

Of course. One other possibility I have in mind is to work with OTH files. You might also search here on SDN to see how to use them for setting the layout set for specific folder paths.
    Hope this helps,

  • Using "Restrict by app" in change query causes issues with Search Results

    Hello!
I am hoping some experienced SP admin can help me out. I am having issues with the relevance ranking for my search results web part.
I created a Wiki (OOTB) within a site collection and on the home page of the Wiki I was looking to apply a Search Box and Search Results web part for easy searching. I wanted to ensure the search results were restricted to the scope of the pages within the
wiki. I did the following after adding the 2 web parts:
Entered edit mode for the page
Started to edit the Search Results web part
Under Properties for Search Results clicked on "Change Query"
Navigated to BASICS and clicked "Switch to Quick Mode"
For Select Query, picked "Wiki (System)" option
For Restrict by app, picked "Specify a URL" and input the wiki URL "http://webapp.com/sites/sitecollection/wiki"
    Click OK
The web part has 6 automatic results when I hit the page. These are the only 6 pages in my wiki. When I search a word or title of a page, they are not ranked in order or relevance. The ordering is static to what was being shown before the search, but the
keywords I'm searching are bold. With out the taking the steps above, I can easily search these pages and have them ranked appropriately so I'm not too sure what I'm doing wrong.
    Other Details
The pages have been crawled and can be searched from anywhere else in SP.
I am only a site collection admin for this specific site collection.
I other than the steps above, I have not made any changes or customization to the search web parts; they are both out of the box SP.
The SP Farm admin we unable to pin point what the root cause is either.

    Hi Mikael,
Sorry for the wait, I was unable to post pictures, which i felt would better describe my issue.
Could you output the query template you are ending up with?
If you can tell me how to accomplish this, then I can provide it. Please keep in mind that I am only a site collection admin.
Also, is the ranking/sorting for your webpart set to ranking?
When looking at the web part settings, I didn't see an option to modify the ranking. Unfortunately, some sites in my intranet are down now so I can't even double check. Once it's back up, I will verify this as well.
And how do you know they are ranked incorrectly?
I wanted to display an image showing what I meant by this. As the wiki is down, I'll do my best with words. When I visit the wiki home page, I already have the search and search results web parts there. Without searching anything, the search results
web part displays 6 pages that are available in the wiki. When I search, I expect to see the most relevant result at the top. similar to the following:
*Search result from another section of the intranet site.*
What I receive instead is the same list of wiki pages, in the same order. The most relevant result
is not moved to the top like in the image above, but I can see that the word "rush" is highlighted in bold. I hope this helps.
If you need more of a description, please let me know.
    Thank you

  • Problem with Search Results do not appear consistantly except for farm administrator

We have Server farm with multiple web applications hosted on 443 port, all of them available over internet for the authenticated company users to use.
When a user searches for a content on the search box on the visited page, some/many users get no results for the first time clicking on the search box, if they refresh the page or search again, it might return the results. Again clicking on next page or
page number button it goes empty. Refreshing the page shows the current page. When Farm Administrator searches, consistantly he gets the results (though the count of results increases/decreases as he changes the page number.
Web application is on Windows Claims and Only (Default Zone) entry in Alternative Access Mapping is
https://subdomain.domain.com, this is same for all applications.
    1)  Can I get rid of the issue by / Effect of adding local IP Addresses on Intranet Zone?
    2) Will Crawl have any effect on using the Public Domain for Crawling?
    Kindly Advise.

    Hi Vasudev,
Based on your description, my understanding is that there are no search results when the users search for the first time.
I recommend to check the things below:
Use the public URL of the default zone in the content source in Search Service application.
Use fiddler or F12 tool to check the requests when doing search in SharePoint site to see if the query request has been sent successfully.
Check ULS log to see more detailed error message. For SharePoint 2013, by default, ULS log is at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS.
You do not need to add the local IP address on the intranet zone.
If you use Public domain URL for crawling, then the results returned will show with the URL of public zone even if you do search in the internal zone.

  • Strange Behaviour when opening pdf files using search results

    Hi
I have observed inconsistencies between opening a pdf file when in the document library itself (it opens in a browser - good).
However, when I click on a the same file in my search results having used Search and the Search Centre it opens in the adobe reader.  I would rather it opened in a browser rather than the adobe reader.
The only difference I can see is that when opening from a document library the url ends in ".pdf", whereas when opening from the search results the url ends in ".pdf#search=<search string>.
    Anybody any ideas ?
    Regards
    Nigel
    Nigel Price NJPEnterprises

    Hi Nigel,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to open pdf from search result in browser.
Firstly , permissive Browser File Handing in Central Administration, you can refer to the link:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/18858.sharepoint-2013-how-to-view-pdf-files-in-browsers.aspx
Whether you are using OWA for SharePoint 2013. If Office Web Apps is not used for Search results of PDFs, the opening of PDFs in the browser passes the search terms into Adobe. So, if you don’t use OWA, please configure it for SharePoint 2013.
    More information, please refer to:

  • Help with Search Result Query Builder (CSWP)

    Greetings,
Is there a way to limit the number of search results returned based on each property value?  Hard to phrase my question, so I'll give my example.
I have a Content Search Web Part that is returning results from a specific list that has a column called Category with 6 options (ex, A, B, C, D, E, F).  I want my query to return the newest 4 items by date that are tagged from each category value.
So, latest 4 items tagged with A, latest 4 tagged with B, etc.  My CSWP would return 24 items from the query.
Hope that makes sense.  So, is this possible through the Search query?
    Thanks!
    -B

    Hi Brian,
Per my knowledge, it is impossible to do via Search Query in Content Search web part.
As a workaround, you can add a Refinement Web part into the page, then click the refiner to filter each options to display the latest associated four items.
You can do as the steps(assuming I create a list with a column called “testCategory”, like your Category column ):
Do a full crawl for the content source.
Create a managed property called “testCategory” to map it to the crawled property
    ows_ testCategory.
Then do a crawl again for the content source.
Go to a page, add a Refinement web part and a Content Search web part into the page.
Edit the Refinement web part->Choose Refiners, add testCategory under
    Available refiners into Selected refiners.
Remove other refiners except testCategory, click OK and OK.
Edit the Content Search web part->Change query.
Select a query: Local SharePoint Results, and the Query text is : Path:<the URL of the list>
Click SORTING tab, and Sort by: LastModifiedTime(Descending), click OK.
Under Change query, Number of items to show: 4.
Click OK, and save the page.
    The result is like:
After Clicking A, we can see the latest 4 items related to A:

  • Firefox automatically opens a new tab with search results

When I visit a URL, Firefox loads that page and also opens a new tab with a URL based on some word in the original page. E.g., www.tripadvisor.com url opened in a new tab. Is this a feature I can turn off?
E.g., I searched for "shovel" in the location bar. A list of results was presented. The first one was as follows. When I clicked on that link, the Amazon.com page with a bunch of shovels opened, as well as another tab with the home page of Amazon.com.
